Obadiah
1.1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus says YHVH GOD concerning Edom. We have heard a rumor from YHVH, and an ambassador has been sent among the nations. Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle.
1.2 Behold, I have made you small among the nations, you are greatly despised.
1.3 The wickedness of your heart has made you a stranger in the midst of the rock of the high places, and he has said in his heart, Who will bring me down to the earth?
1.4 Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down, says YHVH.
1.5 If thieves came to you, if robbers by night, how could you imagine? Would they not steal? If besiegers came to you, would they not leave behind a lie?
1.6 How shall we seek Esau, that he may spring from his compasses?
1.7 To the border that sent thee, all the men of thy covenant, that brought thee, were able to bring thee, the men of thy peace for thy bread, they shall put balm in thy place. there is no understanding in him.
1.8 Shall not YHVH in that day, saith he, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
1.9 And your mighty men shall cut off the mountains of Esau from the slaughter.
1.10 You will be covered with shame and cut off forever from the hand of your brother Jacob.
1.11 On the day you stood aloof, on the day that strangers returned, and foreigners entered its gates, and Jerusalem was in his hand, you too were like one of them.
1.12 And do not be afraid in the day of your brother in the day of his destruction, and do not rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction, and do not exalt your mouth in the day of trouble.
1.13 Do not enter the gate of my people on the day of their calamity; do not fear their calamity on the day of their calamity, and do not send them by their sword on the day of their calamity.
1.14 And do not stand on the threshold to cut off his fugitives, nor shut up his remnant in the day of trouble.
1.15 For the day of YHVH is near upon all the nations. as you have done, so shall it be done to you; your reward shall return upon your own head.
1.16 For when you have drunk on my holy mountain, all the nations shall drink continually; they shall drink and be drunken, and shall be consumed.
1.17 And on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and it shall be holy. and the house of Jacob shall inherit their inheritance.
1.18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble. and they shall kindle in them, and devour them. and there shall be no remnant of the house of Esau. for YHVH hath spoken it.
1.19 And the Negev possessed the mount of Esau, and the lowland the Philistines possessed the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria, and Benjamin possessed Gilead.
1.20 And the exile of this beginning to the children of Israel, who were Canaanites as far as France, and the exile of Jerusalem, who was in Spain, inherited the cities of the Negev.
1.21 And they shall go up saved upon mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau. and the kingdom shall be YHVH'S.
