Nahum 1.1 The burden of Nineveh The book of the vision of Nahum the Chaldean 1.2 YHVH is not jealous, but YHVH avenges. YHVH avenges, and YHVH is wrathful. YHVH avenges his enemies, and he will avenge his wrath on his enemies. 1.3 YHVH is long-suffering, and great in power, and cleanseth not YHVH with the whirlwind, and with the whirlwind his way, and with the cloud the dust of his feet. 1.4 He rebukes the sea, and it dries up, and all the rivers are desolate. Bashan and Carmel languish, and the flower of Lebanon languishes. 1.5 The mountains quaked at his presence, the hills melted, and the earth was shaken at his presence, the world and all who dwell in it. 1.6 Who can stand before his wrath? and who can stand in the fierceness of his anger? His wrath is kindled like fire, and the oppressors are cut off from him. 1.7 YHVH is good as a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knows who to trust in. 1.8 And in the flood of the past shall the bride make her place, and her enemy shall pursue darkness. 1.9 What will you reckon with YHVH? He has done all things. You will not be troubled in times of trouble. 1.10 For even to the pots of the sabbaths, and to the sabbaths of the sabbaths, they have eaten as dry straw full. 1.11 From you came forth one who planned evil against YHVH, who counseled wickedness. 1.12 Thus saith YHVH, If they be whole, and yet many, and yet cut off, and pass away, and yet answer thee, I will answer thee no more. 1.13 And now I will break his rod from over you, and I will break your statutes. 1.14 And YHVH hath commanded thee, saying, There shall no more be any more of thy name in the house of thy Alhym. I will make a graven image, and I will set up a graven image upon thy grave. for it is light. 2.1 Behold, upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace, the feasts of Judah, thy feasts, and thy vows. for there shall no more pass through thee without a bride, a bridegroom cut off. 2.2 A leaf that spreads before you is a shield from trouble, a watchful path, a strong loins, a strong hand, a mighty hand. 2.3 For YHVH will restore the pride of Jacob as the pride of Israel; for the pride of the proud is broken, and their singers are broken. 2.4 Gavriyahu protects from a man whose warriors are consumed by fire. The steel of the chariots was prepared on the day, and the poisoned brushes were poisoned. 2.5 The chariots will roar in the streets; they will roar in the broad places, their sight will be like lightning, they will run like lightning. 2.6 He will remember his mighty men, they will stumble in their ways, they will hasten to build her wall, and prepare the shelter. 2.7 The river gates were opened and the temple faded away 2.8 And the turtledove brought up her young, and her mothers led her astray, like the voice of doves, beating their hearts. 2.9 And Nineveh is like a well of water, and these wonders stand firm, and there is no turning back. 2.10 They despise silver and despise gold, and there is no end to virtue, which is heavier than any desirable vessel. 2.11 A tumult, a tumult, and a tumult, and the heart melted, and the knees trembled, and all the loins trembled, and all their faces were set in awe. 2.12 Where is the den of lions, and the pasture of the villages? Where the lion went to the lion, there is a lion's whelp, and none maketh afraid. 2.13 A lion devours his prey, and chokes his young lions, and his fury is full of prey, and his torments are full of prey. 2.14 Behold, I am against you, says YHVH of hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your chariots, and I will cut off your prey from the land, and the voice of your messengers shall be heard no more. 3.1 Woe to the bloody city, a city full of prey 3.2 The sound of a whip, and the sound of a rattling of a horse, and the galloping chariot, 3.3 The horseman shall come up, and the edge of the sword, and the lightning of the spear, and many slain, and heavy slain, and there shall be no end to the nation. they shall stumble over their nation. 3.4 A multitude of harlots, a charming harlot, a woman of sorcery, who sells nations with her harlotry, and families with her sorcery. 3.5 Behold, I am against you, says YHVH of hosts, and I will uncover your shame before you, and I will show the nations your shame and the kingdoms your disgrace. 3.6 And I will cast abominations upon thee, and will make thee a prey, and will make thee a prey. 3.7 And it shall come to pass, that all that see thee shall be astonished at thee, and shall say, Nineveh is laid waste, who shall go to her? Where shall I seek comforters for thee? 3.8 The people of Amon lived in wells of water all around them, and the mighty sea was their wall. 3.9 Cush is strong, and Egypt, and there is no end of Put and the Libyans, were with you. 3.10 She also has gone into exile, into captivity; her idols also shall be heard in the streets. and the lot shall be upon her honourable men, and all her great men shall be bound in chains. 3.11 You too will be drunk and will disappear, you too will seek refuge from the enemy. 3.12 All who eat figs with firstfruits, if they move and fall by the mouth of food, 3.13 Behold, your people are women in the midst of you; the gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; the fire has devoured your ruins. 3.14 Who is the fortress that I have built for you? I am stronger than the needy. I have come into the clay and trampled on the clay. I have taken hold of the brick. 3.15 There the fire shall devour thee, the sword shall devour thee. be thou as a locust, be thou as a locust. 3.16 You have multiplied your offspring above the stars of heaven, the grass is spread out and flies away. 3.17 Your towers are like locusts, and your towers are like the backs of those who camp in the fences. On a cold day the sun rises and wanders, and its place is not known. 3.18 Your friends, the king of Assyria, will be destroyed. Your mighty men will dwell with you on the mountains, and there will be no gathering. 3.19 It is not dark for me to break your hand, nor to inherit your inheritance. All who have heard of you have laid hands on you. For upon whom has not your evil always passed?
