Micah
1.1 The word of YHVH that came to Micah the Mareshahite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
1.2 Hear, all you peoples, listen, earth and all its fullness, and YHVH God will be among you forever, YHVH from his holy temple.
1.3 For, behold, YHVH cometh forth out of his place, and cometh down, and treadeth upon the dead bodies of the earth.
1.4 And the mountains shall melt under him, and the valleys shall be split as wax before the fire, as waters rush down a steep place.
1.5 For all this is the transgression of Jacob, and for the sins of the house of Israel. who is the transgression of Jacob, but Samaria? and who is the high places of Judah, but Jerusalem?
1.6 And I will make Samaria a place of fields, for vineyards. and I will cause her stones to be carried away captive, and her foundations I will uncover.
1.7 And all her idols shall be cut down, and all her images shall be burned with fire, and all her pillars shall I make desolate. for from her shall they be gathered together as a harlot, and from her as a harlot shall they return.
1.8 For this I will go and wail, and I will make a lamentation, and I will make a mourning garment, and I will mourn like a virgin.
1.9 For her plagues are grievous. for it cometh even unto Judah; it toucheth even unto the gate of my people, even unto Jerusalem.
1.10 Say not in Gath, Weep not in the house of the dust, I have wallowed in the dust.
1.11 Pass over to you, O inhabitant of Shapir, the city of Bashan, the inhabitant of the flock, the house of the nobleman will take his place from you.
1.12 For the inhabitants of Maroth are sick for good. for evil is come down from YHVH unto the gate of Jerusalem.
1.13 The chariot is harnessed to the merchant, the inhabitant of Lachish, the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion. for in thee are found the transgressions of Israel.
1.14 Therefore send messengers to the inheritance of Gath, the daughters of Achzib, to deceive the kings of Israel.
1.15 Until Hirsch, my father, you will dwell in Mareshah, until Adalam, the glory of Israel will come.
1.16 Make yourself bald and shave your head for the children of your delights; make yourself bald like the eagle, for they are revealed from you.
2.1 Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! They do it at dawn, for God has power over them.
2.2 And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and carry them off, and oppress a man and his house, and a man and his inheritance.
2.3 Therefore thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will devise evil against this family. ye shall not remove your necks from thence, neither shall ye go in vain. for it is an evil time.
2.4 In that day he will take up a parable against you, and say, "David has robbed us, and he has divided his portion with me." How can he help me, O fool, who has divided my portion?
2.5 Therefore you shall not be a caster of lot in the congregation of YHVH.
2.6 Do not preach, do not preach to those who do not withhold words.
2.7 The house of Jacob is impatient of YHVH. Are not these his works? Are not his words good with him that walketh uprightly?
2.8 And yesterday my people will rise up against the enemy, from opposite Solomon, Adar, you will be scattered, the passages will be secure, the war will return.
2.9 The women of my people shall be driven out of the house of her delights, and from her altars shall they take away her glory forever.
2.10 Arise and go, for this is not rest for uncleanness, for it is a sin and a sin of violence.
2.11 If a man is a liar and a liar, I will give you wine and strong drink, and he will be a preacher to this people.
2.12 I will gather Jacob, I will gather all of you, I will gather the remnant of Israel together, I will put them together like sheep in trouble, like a flock in the midst of his word, and they shall be called by man.
2.13 The torrent rose before them; they burst through and passed through the gate, and went out by it. And their king passed before them, and YHVH at their head.
3.1 And he said, Hear now, ye heads of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel. do ye not know the judgment?
3.2 Those who hate good and love evil, strip their skin from them and their bones from their bones.
3.3 And they have devoured the remnant of my people, and have stripped off their skin from off them, and have split open their bones, and spread them out as in a pot, and as flesh in a caldron.
3.4 Then they will cry to YHVH, but he will not answer them; he will hide his face from them at that time, when their deeds are evil.
3.5 Thus saith YHVH concerning the prophets that make my people err, which bite both ways, and cry peace, and there is none in their mouth, and prepare war against him.
3.6 Therefore it is night for you from vision, and darkness for you from divination. and the sun is risen upon the prophets, and the day is dark upon them.
3.7 The diviners are ashamed, and the sorcerers are dug up, and they all cover their faces, because there is no answer from God.
3.8 But I am filled with power by the Spirit of YHVH, and with judgment and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
3.9 Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob, and you rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice and pervert all righteousness.
3.10 He built Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with burnt offerings.
3.11 Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests for a bribe, and her prophets practice divination for silver. And they lean on YHVH, saying, "Is it not YHVH among us? Shall not evil come upon us?"
3.12 Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall be a pool of water, and the mountain of the house as high places of a forest.
4.1 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of YHVH'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
4.2 And many nations shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of YHVH, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths. for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of YHVH from Jerusalem.
4.3 And he shall judge between many peoples, and rebuke mighty nations afar off. and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks. nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
4.4 And they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and none shall make them afraid. for the mouth of YHVH of hosts hath spoken.
4.5 For all the peoples will walk each in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of YHVH our God forever and ever.
4.6 In that day, says YHVH, I will gather the strait and the outcast, and I will gather that which I have cast away.
4.7 And I will make the remnant of the remnant a great nation, and YHVH shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth even for ever.
4.8 And you, O daughter of Zion, are the shepherds of the flock; your witnesses shall come, and the first government shall come, from the kingdom to the daughter of Jerusalem.
4.9 Now why do you proclaim evil to the king? There is no evil in you, if your counselor is destroyed, for strength has held you like a woman in labor.
4.10 Be in pain and groan, O daughter of Zion, as one in travail. for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and shalt dwell in the field, and shalt come even unto Babylon. there shalt thou be delivered. there shall YHVH redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
4.11 And now many nations are gathered against you, saying, "You flatter and show off in our eyes."
4.12 But they know not the thoughts of YHVH, neither understand they his counsel. for he hath gathered them together as a sheaf of grain.
4.13 Arise, and thresh the daughter of Zion. for I will make thy horn iron, and thy hoofs brass, and the threshing of many peoples. and I will consecrate YHVH in his wrath, and in his fury to YHVH of the whole earth.
4.14 Now, O daughter of a band, gather yourselves together from the siege, and there against us by tribe they shall smite the judge of Israel on the cheek.
5.1 And you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, are too young to be among the thousands of Judah; out of you shall come forth for me to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from ancient times.
5.2 Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she shall have borne a child, and the rest of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel.
5.3 And he stood and worshipped YHVH in the majesty of the name of YHVH his God, and dwelt there. for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
5.4 And it shall come to pass, that the Assyrian shall come into our land, and shall tread in our palaces, and we shall raise up against him seven wicked men, and eight princes of men.
5.5 And they shall devour the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nemr with its gates. and they shall deliver him from Assyria, when he shall come into our land, and when he shall tread within our borders.
5.6 And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as dew from YHVH, as showers upon the grass, that waiteth for no man, nor tarryeth for man.
5.7 And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the nations in the midst of many peoples, as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a lion among flocks of sheep, which goeth about, and treadeth down, and devoureth, and none delivereth.
5.8 Lift up your hand to the needy, and all your enemies will be cut off.
5.9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith YHVH, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and destroy thy chariots.
5.10 And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and destroy all thy dwellings.
5.11 And I will cut off sorcerers from your hand, and you will have no more sorcerers.
5.12 And I will cut off your graven images and your pillars from among you, and you shall no more bow down to the work of your hands.
5.13 And I will cut off thy singers from the midst of thee, and will destroy thy cities.
5.14 And I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath upon the nations that have not heard.
6.1 Hear ye now what YHVH saith. Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
6.2 Hear, O mountains, the controversy of YHVH, and you mountains, O bases of the earth. for YHVH hath a controversy with his people, and with Israel, he will plead.
6.3 My people, what have I done to you? and what have I done to you? Answer me.
6.4 For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, and redeemed you. and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
6.5 My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab counseled, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from Shechem even to Gilgal, that he might know the righteousness of YHVH.
6.6 With what shall I offer to YHVH my God on high? We have offered burnt offerings of calves a year old.
6.7 YHVH will satisfy me with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil. I will give the firstfruits of my transgressions, the fruit of my belly, the sin of my soul.
6.8 Let man tell you what is good, and what does YHVH require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
6.9 The voice of YHVH shall cry unto the city, and the wise shall see thy name. hearken, O people, and who is it?
6.10 The house of the wicked is like a fire, the treasures of wickedness, and the filth of a small wretch.
6.11 I will not be justified by the scales of wickedness, and by the bag of deceitful stones.
6.12 Whose ten are full of violence, and their inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceit in their mouth.
6.13 And I also have begun to strike you, you desolate one, for your sin.
6.14 You will eat, but not be satisfied, and you will be consumed within you, and you will be engrossed, but you will not be able to spit out; and what you spit out you will give to the sword.
6.15 You will sow but not reap; you will tread olives but not anoint yourself with oil; and you will drink wine but not drink wine.
6.16 And you shall keep the statutes of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and walk in their counsels, that I may give you to the name of YHVH, and to the inhabitants of it to a hissing, and to bear the reproach of my people.
7.1 Woe to me, for I am like summer gleanings, like the spoil of the harvest; there is no cluster to eat of the firstfruits. My soul is like the firstfruits of the harvest.
7.2 The righteous has perished from the earth, and there is none upright among men. They are bloodthirsty; they lie in wait for their brother, they hunt him down, they are cut off.
7.3 The wicked are overcome by good, and the ruler asks and judges in peace. And the great man speaks the truth, and his soul is his own, and he is pleased with it.
7.4 Their good is like a straight razor straight from the razor. The day you look for is coming, your visitation is coming. Now will be their shame.
7.5 Trust not in evil, put not your trust in the king of your bosom, keep the opening of your mouth.
7.6 For a son is a fatherless son, a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law is angry with her mother-in-law, a man is an enemy of the men of his own house.
7.7 But I will wait for YHVH; I will wait for my God; my God will answer me.
7.8 Do not rejoice, O my father, because I have fallen; I will arise; for I sit in darkness; YHVH is a light unto me.
7.9 I will bear the indignation of YHVH, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads with my adversary, and executes his judgments; he brings me forth to the light, and I shall see his righteousness.
7.10 And my mother saw it, and was ashamed, saying unto me, Where is YHVH thy God? mine eyes shall see it. now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.
7.11 The day you build your walls, that day will be far away.
7.12 That day shall come upon thee from Assyria, and from the cities of Tyre, and from Tyre even unto the river, and unto the sea, and unto the mountain of the mountains.
7.13 And the land shall be desolate upon the inhabitants thereof, for the fruit of their doings.
7.14 Shepherd your people with your tribe, the flock of your inheritance, your neighbors in the wilderness, in the midst of Carmel; they shall feed in Bashan and Gilead as in days of old.
7.15 As in the days when you came out of the land of Egypt, I will show you wonders.
7.16 The nations shall see, and be stricken from all their might. they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.
7.17 They shall lick the dust like a serpent, like worms of the earth; they shall be angry with YHVH our God out of their chains; they shall fear and be afraid of you.
7.18 Who is a God like you, who bears iniquity and passes on transgression to the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in mercy?
7.19 He will turn to us in mercy, he will conquer our iniquities, and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
7.20 You will perform the truth to Jacob, the steadfast love to Abraham, which you swore to our fathers from ancient times.
