MATTHEW 1 THE NEW COVENANT IN THE ORIGINAL GREEK ACCORDING TO THE TEXT FOLLOWED IN THE AUTHORISED VERSION 1 The book of the birth of Ihsou Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 2 Abraham begat Isaac; Isaac begat Jacob; Jacob begat Judah and his brothers; 3 Judah begat Phares and Zara of Tamar; Phares begat Hezron; Hezron begat Ram; 4 Aram begat Amminadab; Amminadab begat Nahshon; Nahshon begat Salmon; 5 Salmon begat Boaz of Rahab; Boaz begat Obed of Ruth; Obed begat Jesse; 6 Jesse begat David the king. And David the king begat Solomon of the wife of Uriah; 7 Solomon begat Rehoboam; Rehoboam begat Abijah; Abijah begat Asa; 8 Asa begat Jehoshaphat; Jehoshaphat begat Joram; Joram begat Uzziah; 9 Uzziah begat Jotham; Jotham begat Ahaz; Ahaz begat Hezekiah; 10 Hezekiah begat Manasseh; Manasseh begat Amon; Amon begat Josiah; 11 Josiah begat Jeconiah and his brothers on the deportation to Babylon. 12 After the deportation to Babylon, Jeconiah became the father of Shealtiel; Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel; 13 Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud; Abiud became the father of Eliakim; Eliakim became the father of Azor; 14 Azor became the father of Zadok; Zadok became the father of Achim; Achim became the father of Eliud; 15 Eliud became the father of Eleazar; Eleazar became the father of Matthan; Matthan became the father of Jacob; 16 Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, by whom was born Ihsou, who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David to the deportation to Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ are fourteen generations. 18 Now the birth of Ihsou Christ was on this wise. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. 19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But when he had considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Sacred Spirit: 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Ihsou: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: 23 “Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel,” which means, “God with us.” 24 Then Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him. He took his wife, 25 and had no sexual relations with her until she had given birth to her firstborn son. He called his name Ihsou. MATTHEW 2 1 Now when Ihsou was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, Where is he that is born king of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou, Bethlehem, land of Juda, art not the least among the rulers of Juda: for out of thee shall come forth a governor, that shall rule my people Israel. 7 Then Herod, having secretly called the wise men, ascertained from them the time of the star's appearance. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the child: and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him. 9 And they that heard the king went their way: and, lo, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them, till it came over where the child was. 10 And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. 12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. 13 And when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, take the child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be there until I bring thee word: for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him. 14 And he arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt, 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was exceedingly wroth, and sent and brought together all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all that coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined of the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, 18 A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not. 19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 saying, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.” 21 So he rose, took the child and his mother, and came to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. But being warned in a dream, he withdrew to the parts of Galilee. 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene. MATTHEW 3 1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’” 4 Now John had his clothing made of camel’s hair, and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan; 6 and were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruit worthy of repentance. 9 And do not start to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham. 10 And now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but he will burn up the chaff with fire. 13 Then Ihsou came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. 14 But John forbade him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? 15 But Ihsou answered and said unto him, Suffer it to be so: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then they let him go. 16 And Ihsou, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him. 17 And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” MATTHEW 4 1 Then Ihsou was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came to him and said, If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will give his angels charge over you, and in their hands they will lift you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’” 7 Ihsou said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” 8 Again the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them. 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Ihsou unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him: and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. 12 Now when Ihsou heard that John was delivered up, he departed into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali. 14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 15 Land of Zebulun, and land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, 16 The people which sat in darkness saw a great light; and to them which sat in the land and shadow of death light is sprung up. 17 From that time Ihsou began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 18 And Ihsou, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen. 19 And he saith unto them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. 20 And straightway they left their nets, and followed him. 21 And going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 22 And they immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him. 23 And Ihsou went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. 24 And his fame went out into all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people, taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those which were paralyzed: and he healed them. 25 And great multitudes followed him from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond Jordan. MATTHEW 5 1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. 13 You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be salted? It is of no use to anyone unless it is thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven. 17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle will in any way pass from the law until all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments and teaches men so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will in no way enter the kingdom of heaven. 21 You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders shall be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment. Whoever does not say to his brother, ‘You are a liar,’ shall be in danger of the council; whoever does not say, ‘My son,’ shall be in danger of the hell of fire. 23 If therefore thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; 24 Leave thy gift there before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. 25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest thy adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. 26 Truly I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou have paid the last farthing. 27 You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 And if your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away.Take it out and throw it away from you; for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is profitable for you that one of your members should perish, and not for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. 31 It was said, "Whoever divorces his wife, let her be put away." 32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery. 33 Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, "You shall not swear, but shall perform to the Lord your oaths." 34 But I say to you, do not shave your head, neither in heaven, for it is God's throne; 35 nor on earth, for it is his footstool; nor at Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King; 36 nor on your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let your speech be, Yes, yes; Nay, no; but whatever is more than these is of the evil one. 38 You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. 39 But I say to you, Do not resist evil. But whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, leave him your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone forces you to go a mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. 43 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you kiss your brothers only, what more do you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 48 Be perfect, therefore, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. MATTHEW 6 1 Be careful not to do your alms before men, to be seen by them; otherwise you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 So when you do alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Truly I tell you, they have their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 5 And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your closet, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come; thy will be done, as in heaven, also on earth. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 16 When you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, looking sad. For they disfigure their faces so that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I tell you, they will receive their reward. 17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where rust and decay destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where rust and decay destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness? 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.Is not the life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky, that they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much different from them? 27 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his span of life? 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; 29 and I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For all these things do the nations seek; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own evil. MATTHEW 7 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged: 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you. 3 Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how canst thou say to thy brother, Let me take the mote out of thine eye; and behold, the beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first take the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to take the mote out of thy brother's eye. 6 Do not give what is holy to the dogs; do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn and rebuke you. 7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you, whom if his son asks for bread, will not give him a stone? 10 And if he asks for a fish, will he not give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him? 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do to them also; for this is the law and the prophets. 13 Enter through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many are the ones going in through it. 14 For narrow is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and few are the ones finding it. 15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bears good fruit, but a rotten tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 By their fruits you will recognize them. 21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name done many miracles? 23 And then will I confess to them, I never knew you: depart from me, you workers of iniquity. 24 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house, and it fell; and great was its fall.28 And it came to pass, when Ihsou had finished these sayings, the multitudes were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. MATTHEW 8 1 And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. 2 And, behold, a leper came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3 And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy was cleansed of him. 4 And Ihsou saith unto him, See thou say nothing: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 5 And when Ihsou was come into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, 6 And saying, Lord, my son lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. 7 And Ihsou saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8 And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but only say the word, and my son shall be healed. 9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. 10 When Ihsou heard this, he marveled, and said to those who followed, “Amen, I say to you, I have not found such faith, not even in Israel.” 11 I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 13 Then Ihsou said to the centurion, “Go, and as you have believed, let it be done for you.” And his son was healed at that very hour. 14 And when Ihsou was come into Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law sick of the palsy, and sick of the fever: 15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. 16 And when they saw it, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our diseases. 18 When Ihsou saw the crowds around him, he gave up going to the other side. 19 And a scribe came and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 And Ihsou said to him, “Foxes have nests, and birds of the air have roosts, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 21 But another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 22 But Ihsou said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” 23 And when he had entered the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there was a great earthquake on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves; but he sat down. 25 And his disciples came and awoke him, saying, “Lord, save us; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you fearful, you of little faith?” Then he arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, "This is a demon, that even the winds and the sea obey him." 28 And he came to him on the other side, into the country of the Gergesenes,Two demon-possessed men came out of the tombs, so fierce that they could not pass that way. 29 And behold, they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with you, Ihsou, Son of God? Have you come here before the time to torment us?” 30 Now a long way from them was a herd of many pigs feeding. 31 And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, allow us to go into the herd of pigs.” 32 And he said to them, “Go.” And they went out, and went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. 33 And they that fed them fled, and went their way into the city, and told all things, and how it was with the possessed of the devils. 34 And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Ihsou: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts. MATTHEW 9 1 And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own city. 2 And, behold, they brought unto him a sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Ihsou seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy, Son of man, thy sins be forgiven thee. 3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. 4 And Ihsou seeing their thoughts said, Why think ye evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or to say, Get up and walk? 6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, then he says to the paralytic, Get up, take up your bed, and go to your house. 7 And he got up and went to his house. 8 When the crowds saw it, they were amazed and praised God, who had given such authority to men. 9 And as Ihsou passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. 10 And it happened, as he was eating in the house, that many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Ihsou and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" 12 When Ihsou heard this, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” 14 Then John’s disciples came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 Ihsou said to them, “Can the children of the bridegroom not mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?” But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast. 16 No one puts a piece of new wine on an old garment, for that takes away the fullness from the garment, and a tear is made. 17 No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. 18 While he was still speaking to them, a ruler came and worshiped him, saying, “My daughter has just died. But come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 Ihsou got up and followed him, along with his disciples. 20 A woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 For she said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be saved.” 22 And Ihsou turned and saw her, and said, Daughter, go, thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. 23 And when Ihsou came into the ruler's house, and saw the servants and the people making a commotion, 24 He saith unto them, Go away: for the damsel is not dead, but alive. And they rebuked him. 25 And when the multitude was gone out, he went in, and took her by the hand; and the damsel arose. 26 And the fame thereof went out into all that country. 27 And they went from there to Ihsou,Two blind men followed him, crying out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28 When he was come into the house, the blind men came to him, and Ihsou saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They saith unto him, Yea, Lord. 29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. 30 And their eyes were opened: and Ihsou rebuked them, saying, See that no man know it. 31 And they went out, and spread abroad his fame throughout all that country. 32 And as they went out, behold, they brought unto him a deaf man possessed with a devil. 33 And when the devil was cast out, the deaf man spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils by the prince of the devils. 35 And Ihsou went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people. 36 But when he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” MATTHEW 10 1 And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus the son of Levi; 4 Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Ihsou sent out, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. 9 Provide no gold, no silver, no copper for your belts, 10 do not take for your journey, neither two tunics, nor sandals, nor staffs; for the laborer is worthy of his food. 11 Whatever city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave. 12 And when you enter a house, greet it. 13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words, when you go out of that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. 15 Amen I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. 16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they shall deliver you up to councils, and scourge you in their synagogues: 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, do not be anxious how or what you are to speak; for it will be given you in that hour what you are to speak. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you. 21 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. 22 And you will be hated by all for my name's sake; but he who endures to the end will be saved. 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes. 24 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household? 26 Do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered, preach upon the housetops. 28 And do not be afraid of those who kill the body,But do not take the soul of the weak. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father. 30 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Do not be afraid; you are more valuable than many ostriches. 32 Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven. 33 Whoever denies me before men, I will deny him before my Father who is in heaven. 34 Do not think that I have come to send peace on earth; I did not come to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 A man’s enemies will be those of his own household. 37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. 40 He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. 41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous person in the name of a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. MATTHEW 11 1 And it came to pass, when Ihsou had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities. 2 Now when John had heard in prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3 and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or look we for another? 4 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Go and shew John the things which ye hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached unto them: 6 And blessed is he that shall not be offended in me. 7 And as they departed, Ihsou began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? 8 But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft garments are in kings' houses. 9 But what went ye out to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet: 10 For this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 11 Truly I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. 13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 14 And if ye are willing to receive it, he is Elias which is to come. 15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 16 But unto what shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, and calling unto their fellows, 17 And saying, We have wept for you, and ye have not wept; we have bewailed you, and ye have not wept. 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. 19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners: and wisdom is justified of her children. 20 Then he began to reproach the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 Woe to you, Chorazin, woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, in sackcloth and hair. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to hell; for if the mighty works that have been done in you had been done in Sodom, they would have remained until this day. 24 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you. 25 At that time Ihsou answered and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. 26 Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one acknowledges the Son except the Father, and no one acknowledges the Father except the Son, and to whomever the Son wishes I will reveal him. 28 Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. MATTHEW 12 1 At that time Ihsou went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the heads of grain and eat. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” 3 But he said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, except for the priests alone? 5 Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guilty? 6 But I say to you that there is something greater than the temple here. 7 But if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the lawless. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’ 9 And he passed on from there and came into their synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man with a withered hand. And they asked him, saying, “Does he heal on the Sabbath?” that they might accuse him. 11 And he said to them, What man is there among you, who shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more then is a man of a sheep, that he may do good on the sabbath day? 13 Then he saith to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out, and it was restored whole, as the other. 14 And the Pharisees went out, and took counsel against him, how they might destroy him. 15 But Ihsou, knowing it, departed thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all, 16 And charged them that they should not make him known: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 18 Behold my Servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my Spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. 19 He shall not strive, nor cry, neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he sends forth judgment in victory. 21 And in his name the nations will hope. 22 Then one possessed by a demon came to him, blind and deaf; and he healed him, so that the blind and deaf both spoke and saw. 23 And all the crowds were amazed and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This man does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the prince of the demons.” 25 And Ihsou, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation: and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. 26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself: how then shall his kingdom stand? 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they are your judges. 28 But if I by the Spirit of God cast out devils, then the kingdom of God is come upon you. 29 Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? and then he will plunder his house. 30 He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.31 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come. 33 Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad. For the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I tell you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned. 38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we would see a sign from you.” 39 But he answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the south will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. 43 When the unclean spirit goes out of a person, it passes through dry places, seeking rest and finding none. 44 Then he says, I will return to my house from whence I came. And the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus it will be with this evil generation. 46 While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him. 47 And he said to him, Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, seeking to speak to you. 48 But he answered and said to him, Who is my mother? and who are my brothers? 49 And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, Behold my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.Or have you made the tree good, and its fruit good? For the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you speak good things, being evil? And the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. Thus it will be with this evil generation. 46 While he was still speaking to the people, his mother and brothers stood outside, seeking to speak to him. 47 And someone said to him, “Look, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak to you.” 48 But he answered and said to the one who was with him, “Who is my mother? MATTHEW 13 1 On that day Ihsou went out of the house and sat by the sea. 2 And great crowds gathered to him, so that he was forced to get into a boat and sit there, while the whole crowd stood on the shore. 3 And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and the roosters came and ate them up. 5 Others fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil. Immediately they sprang up because they had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun rose, they were scorched, and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Others fell on good soil, and they produced fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears to hear, let him hear. 10 And the disciples came and said to him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” 11 And he answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him. 13 Therefore speak I unto them in parables: because seeing they see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, Hear ye, and understand not; and seeing ye shall see, and perceive not. 15 For the heart of this people has grown dull, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. 17 For truly I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. 18 Therefore hear the parable of the sower. 19 Whenever anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one sown by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. 21 But he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he is offended. 22 But he who received the seed among thorns is the one who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while he was sowing the wheat, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade sprang up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? 28 And he said unto them,An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and gather them up?’ 29 He said, ‘No, lest while you gather the weeds, you root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. And in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the weeds and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ 31 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: 32 Which is the least of all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the fowls of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. 33 Another parable spake he unto them, The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 34 All these things spake Ihsou unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will shew things hidden from the foundation of the world. 36 Then Ihsou sent the multitudes away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 37 And he answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man: 38 And the field is the world: the good seed are the children of the kingdom: but the tares are the children of the wicked one: 39 And the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world: and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire: so shall it be at the end of the world. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend and those who do lawlessness, 42 and will throw them into the furnace of fire; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear. 44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy at it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking goodly pearls; 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. 47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a sieve thrown into the sea, and gathering together of every kind; 48 which, when it was full, they went up to the shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the vile away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and throw them into the furnace of fire; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51 Ihsou said to them, “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 52 He said to them,Therefore every scribe who is instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure new and old. 53 And it came to pass, when Ihsou had finished these parables, that he departed thence: 54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brethren James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his brothers are not all with us? Whence then did this man all these things? 57 And they were offended at him. But Ihsou said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief. MATTHEW 14 1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Ihsou, 2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.” 3 For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife. 4 For John had said to him, “I have no right to have her.” 5 And when he would have killed him, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet. 6 And when Herod was coming, the daughter of Herodias stood before them, and pleased Herod: 7 So he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she asked. 8 And she, being come near unto her mother, said, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist. 9 And the king was grieved; but because of the oaths and the guests, he commanded it to be given. 10 And he sent and beheaded John in the prison. 11 And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the damsel; and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it: and they came and told Ihsou. 13 And when Ihsou heard it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people heard it, they followed him on foot out of the cities. 14 And Ihsou went out and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick. 15 And when he saw it, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the hour is already past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves bread. 16 But Ihsou said unto them, They need not go away; give ye them to eat. 17 And they said unto him, We have here but five loaves and two fishes. 18 And he said, Bring them hither to me. 19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 20 And they all did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. 21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children. 22 And straightway Ihsou constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away. 23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain by himself to pray: and when he was come to his senses, he was there alone. 24 And the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with the waves: for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night Ihsou went unto them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit: and they cried out for fear. 27 But Ihsou spake unto them straightway, saying, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And Peter went down out of the ship, and walked on the water, to come unto Ihsou. 30 But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Ihsou stretched out his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased: 33 And they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. 34 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent out into all that surrounding region, and brought to him all who were sick. 36 And they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as came were made well. MATTHEW 15 1 Then came to Ihsou scribes and Pharisees which were of Jerusalem, saying, 2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3 And he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother; and, He that curseth father or mother, let him surely die the death. 5 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is a gift by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 6 And he shall not honor his father or his mother: and ye have made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men. 10 And he called the multitude unto him, and said unto them, Hear, and understand. 11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, that defileth a man. 12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying? 13 But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind; and if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a ditch. 15 Then Peter answered and said to him, “Explain this parable to us.” 16 And Ihsou said, “Are you also foolish? 17 Do you not understand that whatever goes into the mouth goes into the stomach and is expelled into the drain? 18 But what comes out of the mouth comes out of the heart, and that makes a person unclean. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things that belong to a man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not belong to a man. 21 And Ihsou went out from there and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those regions and cried out to him, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and asked him, saying, Send her away, for she crieth after us. 24 But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 25 And she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs. 27 And she said, Yea, Lord: for the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. 28 Then Ihsou answered and said to her, “Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that hour. 29 And Ihsou passed on from there and came near the Sea of Galilee, and went up into the mountain and sat down there. 30 And great crowds came to him, having with them those who were lame, blind, deaf, maimed, and many others.and they cast them down at Ihsou' feet, and he healed them. 31 So the multitude marveled, when they saw the deaf speaking, the lame whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing: and they glorified the God of Israel. 32 And Ihsou called unto him his disciples, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. 33 And his disciples said to him, “Where should we have so many loaves in the wilderness as to satisfy so great a multitude?” 34 And Ihsou said to them, “How many loaves have you?” And they said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” 35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 37 And they all ate and were filled; and they took up of the fragments that remained, seven baskets full. 38 Now those who ate were about four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 And he sent the crowds away, got into the boat, and came to the region of Magdala. MATTHEW 16 1 And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and tempting him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven. 2 And he answered and said unto them, When ye see, ye say, It is fair; for the sky is burning: 3 And in the morning, It is winter to day; for the sky is burning and freezing. Hypocrites, ye know how to discern the face of the sky, but cannot discern the signs of the times. 4 An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah. And he left them, and went his way. 5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they were about to buy bread. 6 And Ihsou said unto them, Take heed, and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. 7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have brought no bread. 8 But Ihsou answering said unto them, Why reason ye among yourselves, O ye of little faith, because ye have brought no bread? 9 Ye neither understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up? 10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many fragments ye took up? 11 How do you not understand that I did not tell you to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees? 12 Then they understood that he did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. 13 When Ihsou came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, “Who do people say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 They said, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Ihsou answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.” 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 20 Then he charged his disciples that they should tell no one that he was Ihsou the Christ. 21 From that time on Ihsou began to show his disciples how he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. 22 And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. 24 Then said Ihsou unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and lose his soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of man is to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each according to his deeds. 28 Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. MATTHEW 17 1 And after six days Ihsou taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him. 4 And Peter answered and said unto Ihsou, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles: one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell downon their faces, and they were very afraid. 7 And Ihsou came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Ihsou only. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, Ihsou charged them, saying, Tell no man the vision, till the Son of man be risen from the dead. 10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? 11 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. 12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed: even so must the Son of man suffer of them. 13 Then came the disciples together, because he spake unto them of John the Baptist. 14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came to him, kneeling before him, and saying, 15 Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers terribly. For ofttimes he falls into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 And Ihsou answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? and how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Ihsou rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Ihsou privately, and said, Why could we not cast him out? 20 And Ihsou said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove: and nothing shall hinder you. 21 But this kind goeth not out, but by prayer and fasting. 22 And when they were in Galilee, Ihsou said to them, The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, 23 and they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise again. And they were exceedingly sorrowful. 24 And when they came to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Master pay tribute? 25 He said, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Ihsou met him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth receive tribute or custom? From his own sons, or from strangers? 26 Peter saith unto him, From strangers. Ihsou saith unto him, Are the sons free? 27 But lest we offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the first fish that cometh up: and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of silver: that take I will give it unto them for me and thee. MATTHEW 18 1 At that time the disciples came to Ihsou, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And Ihsou called a child to him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever therefore humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever receives one such child in my name receives me. 6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. 7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For it is necessary that offenses come, but woe to that person through whom the offense comes! 8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life lame or maimed, than having two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than having two eyes to be thrown into hell fire. 10 See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. 11 For the Son of Man came to save that which was lost. 12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go into the mountains to seek the one that is lost? 13 And if he should find it, verily I say unto you, that he rejoiceth more over it, than over the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. 15 But if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take with you one or two more, so that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 But if he ignores them, tell it to the church. But if he ignores the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. 21 Then Peter came to him and said, “Lord, how many times shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Ihsou said to him, “I do not say to you, Up to seven times, but Up to seventy-seven times.” 23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, which would take reckoning with his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, there was brought unto him one that owed him ten thousand talents. 25 And when he could not pay, his lord laid hands on him, and laid hands on him, and on his wife, and on his children, and on all that he had, and to pay him.26 So the servant fell down and worshiped him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 27 Then the master of that servant felt compassion for him and released him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and started choking him, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe.’ 29 So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.’ 30 But he would not, but went and threw him into prison until he should pay what was due. 31 When his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved, and came and told their lord all that had happened. 32 Then his lord, having summoned him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant, I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Do you not also have mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was due to him. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to you, if you do not forgive each one of his brother from your hearts their trespasses. MATTHEW 19 1 And it came to pass, when Ihsou had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judea beyond Jordan. 2 And great multitudes followed him, and he healed them there. 3 And the Pharisees came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 But he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and the two shall be one flesh? 6 So then they are no more twain, but one flesh: what therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 7 They say unto him, Why then did Moses command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? 8 He says to them, “Moses, because of your hardness of heart, permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been so. 9 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for the cause of fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” 10 His disciples said to him, “If the case of a man with his wife is like this, it is not good to marry.” 11 But he said to them, “Not all can accept this saying, but only those to whom it is given.” 12 For there are eunuchs who were born this way from their mother's womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him who can go in go in. 13 Then little children were brought to him that he might put his hands on them and pray. But the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Ihsou said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." 15 And having laid hands on them, he departed thence. 16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God. But if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? And Ihsou said, Thou shalt not kill; Thou shalt not commit adultery; Thou shalt not steal; Thou shalt not bear false witness; 19 Honor thy father and mother; and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 20 The young man said to him, “All these things I have kept from my youth; what do I still lack?” 21 Ihsou said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 23 Ihsou said to his disciples, “Truly I say to you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. 25 When his disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Then who can be saved?” 26 But Ihsou, looking at them, said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27 Then Peter answered him, “Behold,We have left everything and followed you; what then is that to us? 28 And Ihsou said to them, “Truly I say to you, in the regeneration when the Son of Man sits on the throne of his glory, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first. MATTHEW 20 1 For the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 And when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And about the third hour he went out and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. 4 And he said to them, You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went out again about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They said unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He says to them, “You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.” 8 When the owner of the vineyard heard this, he said to his manager, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.” 9 When those who came about the eleventh hour received a denarius each, 10 the first came and thought they would receive more, so they also received a denarius each. 11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the householder, 12 saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which bare the burden of the day and the heat. 13 But he answered and said unto one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny? 14 Take that which is thine, and go thy way: and I will give to this last even as unto thee. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? if thine eye be evil, because I am good? 16 So the last will be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen. 17 And Ihsou going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples aside on the way, and said to them, 18 Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, 19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock and scourge and crucify him; and on the third day he will rise again. 20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to him with her sons, worshiping him and asking for something from him. 21 He said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and the other at your left, in your kingdom.” 22 Ihsou answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to him, “I can.” 23 And he said to them, “You will drink my cup, and with the baptism with which I am baptized you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand and at my side is not mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” 24 And when the ten heard this, they were indignant at the two brothers. 25 But Ihsou called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister: 27 And whosoever will be first among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister:and to give his life a ransom for many. 29 And as they were going out from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. 30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Ihsou was healing, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. 31 And the multitude rebuked them, that they should be quiet: but the more cried out the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou Son of David. 32 And Ihsou called unto them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you? 33 They said to him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” 34 Moved with compassion, Ihsou touched their eyes, and immediately their eyes received their sight, and they followed him. MATTHEW 21 1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then Ihsou sent two disciples, 2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. 3 And if any man say unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. 4 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt, the foal of a donkey. 6 And the disciples went, and did as Ihsou had commanded them, 7 And they brought the ass, and the colt, and put their clothes on them, and sat upon them. 8 And the greatest multitude spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them in the way. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11 And the multitudes said, This is Ihsou the prophet, of Nazareth of Galilee. 12 And Ihsou entered the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were indignant. 16 And I said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Ihsou saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings I have perfected praise? 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city unto Bethany, and there he rejoiced. 18 And in the morning, as he was returning to the city, he was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it, Let no fruit grow on you forever. And the fig tree withered away. 20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, How is the fig tree withered away? 21 Ihsou answered them, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and thrown into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 And whatever you ask for in prayer, believing, you will receive. 23 And when he came to the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him, teaching, and saying, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” 24 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say unto us,Why then did you not believe him? 26 But if we say, From men, we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. 27 And they answered Ihsou, We know not. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. 28 And why tempt ye? A certain man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work today in my vineyard. 29 And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, It is I, Lord; and he went not away. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They said unto him, The first. Ihsou saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. 33 Hear another parable. There was a man, a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into exile. 34 And when the time of the fruit drew nigh, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive his fruits. 35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat them, and killed them, and stoned them. 36 Again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. 37 Then he sent his son to them, saying, “They will rebuke my son.” 38 When the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, “This is the heir; come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.” 39 They took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 When the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants? 41 They will say to him, “He will put those wicked tenants to death and lease out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.” 42 Ihsou said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures, ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the head of the corner. This was done by the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes?’ 43 Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will come from you and be given to a nation bringing forth its fruits. 44 And whoever falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will roll it down. 45 And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. 46 And when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the people, because they held him for a prophet.31 Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to him, The first. Ihsou said to them, “Truly I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and you, when you saw it, did not repent and believe him.” 33 Hear another parable. There was a man who was a householder, who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it, dug a well in it, built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into exile. 34 When the time of the harvest drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen to receive his fruits. 35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat them, and killed them, and stoned them. 36 Again he sent other servants more than the first; and they did to them in like manner. This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes? 43 Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will come from you, and it will be given to the nations, bringing forth its fruits. 44 And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will roll him over. 45 And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke of them. 46 And when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the people, because they took him for a prophet.and we have taken his inheritance. 39 And they took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and destroyed him. 40 When therefore the lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? 41 They say unto him, He will put those wicked husbandmen to death, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. 42 Ihsou saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? MATTHEW 22 1 And Ihsou answered and spake unto them again in parables, saying, 2 The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son: 3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage: and they would not come. 4 Again he sent other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. 5 But those who were negligent went away, one to his own farm, another to his business. 6 But the rest, seizing his servants, treated them cruelly and killed them. 7 When the king heard this, he was furious, and sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and destroyed their city. 8 Then he said to his servants, ‘My wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 Go out therefore to the highways and all the corners of the streets, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding. 10 And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was made full. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen. 15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entangle him in his words. 16 And they sent their disciples to him with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care for anyone, for you do not regard the person of men. 17 Tell us then, what do you think? To give tribute to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Ihsou, knowing their wickedness, said, “Why do you tempt me, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin of the centurion. And they brought him a denarius. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose image and superscription is this? 21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. 22 And when they heard it, they marveled: and leaving him, they went their way. 23 On that day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother must marry his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.’ 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. And the first, having committed adultery, left his wife to his brother, 26 and likewise the second and the third, up to the seven. 27 Last of all, the woman died also. 28 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her. 29 Ihsou answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as angels of God in heaven. 31 But as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying,32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. 33 And the crowds hearing were astonished at his teaching. 34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they were gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, saying, 36 Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 And Ihsou said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. 41 And when the Pharisees were gathered together, Ihsou asked them, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “David’s son.” 43 He said to them, “How then does David in spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying, 44 The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool?’ 45 If then David calls him ‘Lord,’ how is he his son?” 46 And no one was able to answer him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask him any more questions. MATTHEW 23 1 Then Ihsou spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 Therefore, whatever they tell you to do, that do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say and do not do. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. 5 But all their works they do to be seen of men: they enlarge their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments; 6 And love the first place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7 And greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi: 8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Teacher, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And do not call anyone on earth your father, for one is your Father, who is in heaven. 10 Do not be called teachers, for one is your teacher, even Christ. 11 But the greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. 13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men. For you yourselves do not go in, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. 14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive the greater condemnation. 15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel over sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him twofold the son of hell. 16 Woe to you, blind guides, who say, "If anyone washes in the temple, he is nothing; but if anyone does not wash in the gold of the temple, he is a debtor." 17 You fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? 18 And if anyone offers a sacrifice at the altar, he is nothing; but if anyone does not offer a sacrifice in the gift that is on it, he is obligated. 19 You fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? 20 He therefore who is at the altar speaks in himself and in all that is on it; 21 and he who is at the temple speaks in himself and in him who dwells in it; 22 and he who is at heaven speaks in himself and in the throne of God and in him who sits on it. 23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and anise and cumin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment and mercy and faith. These you have permitted to do, but the others you have not left undone. 24 Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel. 25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside they are full of extortion and extortion. 26 Blind Pharisees, first cleanse the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. 27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. 29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, 30 and say, ‘If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’ 31 Therefore you bear witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 And you have fulfilled the measure of your fathers. 33 Serpents, generation of vipers, how are you to escape the judgment of hell? 34 Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them ye shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation. 37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. 38 Look, your house is left to you desolate. 39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’ MATTHEW 24 1 And Ihsou went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to show him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Ihsou said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Take heed that ye be not deceived: 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see, be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass; but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then they will deliver you up to be afflicted and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will be offended, and will betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world for a witness to all nations, and then the end will come. 15 When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house, 18 and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his clothes. 19 But woe to those who are with child and to those who are nursing infants in those days. 20 But pray that your flight may not be in winter, nor on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever will. 22 And unless those days are cut short, no flesh will be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be cut short. 23 Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ,' or 'There he is,' do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 Behold, I have told you beforehand. 26 If they say to you, ‘Look, he is in the desert,’ do not go out; ‘Look, he is in the secret places,’ do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and shines even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 28 For wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near, right at the doors. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will by no means pass away until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 36 But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but my Father alone. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as they were in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 40 Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41 Two will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. 42 Therefore be quick, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched and not waited to have his house broken into. 44 Therefore be you also ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. 45 Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Truly I say unto you, That he will make him ruler over all that he hath. 48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming, 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the lord of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour when he is not aware of it, 51 and will cut him in two, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.40 Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming, 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the lord of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour when he is not aware of it, 51 and will cut him in two, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. MATTHEW 25 1 Then the kingdom of heaven will be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were wise and five were foolish. 3 Some of the foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom was coming, they all got up and sat down. 6 And at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 The wise answered, ‘Perhaps there will not be enough for us and you. Go instead to those who sell and buy for yourselves.’ 10 While they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast, and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Hurry therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. 14 For when a man was going abroad, he called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And to him that had received five talents he gave, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability. And he went and settled accounts with them. 16 And he that had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents. 17 And likewise also he that had received the two talents made other two. 18 But he that had received the one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. 19 And after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reckoned with them. 20 And he that had received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained other five talents besides them. 21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. 22 And he that had received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained other two talents besides them. 23 His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ 24 Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you did not scatter seed. 25 And I was afraid and went and hid your talent in the earth. Look, you have yours. 26 But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I strawed not: 27 Yet thou shouldest have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him that hath ten talents. 29 For unto him that hath shall be given all things, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away.30 And cast the wicked servant into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 31 But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory. 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, 36 naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or naked and take you in? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you? 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ 41 Then he will say to those who are righteous, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’ 42 For I was hungry, and you gave me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you? 45 Then he will answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. 46 And these will go away into eternal hell, but the righteous into eternal life.Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry, and you gave me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal hell, but the righteous into eternal life.Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry, and you gave me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal hell, but the righteous into eternal life. MATTHEW 26 1 And it came to pass, when Ihsou had finished all these sayings, that he said unto his disciples, 2 Ye know that after two days is the passover, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified. 3 Then gathered together the chief priests and the scribes and the elders of the people unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 And consulted together how they might take Ihsou by craft, and kill him. 5 But they said, Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people. 6 Now when Ihsou was in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, 7 there came to him a woman having an alabaster flask of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he lay there. 8 But when his disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For much might have been sold for this ointment, and the money given to the poor.” 10 But Ihsou, knowing it, said to them, “Why do you trouble this woman? She has done a good deed to me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” 12 For she has done this for my body, for my burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her. 14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests, 15 and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that time on he sought opportunity to betray him. 17 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Ihsou, saying, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a man named Abimelech, and tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.”’ 19 And the disciples did as Ihsou had directed them, and they prepared the Passover. 20 And when he had seen them, he went up with the twelve. 21 And as they were eating, he said, “Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they began to be exceeding sorrowful, and each of them said to him, “Lord, is it I?” 23 But he answered and said, “He who has dipped his hand with me in the dish, he will betray me. 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” 25 Then Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, “Rabbi, is it I?” He said to him, “You have said it.” 26 And as they were eating, Ihsou took bread, and blessed, and wept, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it: 28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. 30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 31 Then Ihsou said to them, “All of you will be offended because of me this night, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd.’”and the sheep of the flock will be scattered. 32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of you, I will never be made to stumble.” 34 Ihsou said to him, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the clock strikes midnight, you will deny me three times.” 35 Peter said to him, “Even if I have to die with you, I will not deny you.” And so did all the disciples. 36 Then Ihsou came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And he took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him, and began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to death; stay here and fast with me.” 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, praying, and saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.” 40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, So could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Feast and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 Again he went out a second time, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cup may not pass from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came again, and found them sleeping; for their eyes were heavy. 44 And leaving them, he went away again and prayed a third time, saying the same thing. 45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, “Sit down and rest; behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us go; behold, he who betrays me is at hand.” 47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, “Whomever I kiss, he is the one; arrest him.” 49 And straightway he went up to Ihsou, and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed him. 50 But Ihsou said to him, “Friend, come here.” Then they came and laid hands on Ihsou, and arrested him. 51 And, behold, one of those who followed Ihsou stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his ear. 52 Then Ihsou said to him, “Put your sword back into its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?” 55 At that time Ihsou said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to arrest me? I sat with you all day long in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me.” 56 Now all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. 57 And they that had laid hold on Ihsou led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going in, he sat with the servants to see the end. 59Now the chief priests and the elders and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Ihsou to put him to death, 60 but they found none; and when many false witnesses came forward, they found none. Then two false witnesses came forward, 61 and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’” 62 And the high priest stood up and said to him, “Have you no answer? What is it that these are testifying against you?” 63 But Ihsou held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Ihsou said to him, “You have said it; but I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has blasphemed. What further need do we have of witnesses? See, you have heard his blasphemy. 66 What do you accuse him of?” They answered, “He is guilty of death.” 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. But they rebuked him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ, who is it that is persecuting you?” 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a girl came to him and said, “You also were with Ihsou of Galilee.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.” 71 But when he had gone out to the gateway, another woman saw him and said to those there, “This man was also with Ihsou of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied it with an oath that he did not know the man. 73 And after a little while the bystanders came and said to Peter, “Surely you are one of them, for your speech betrays you.” 74 Then he began to curse and to deny that he did not know the man. And straightway he cried out, “Alexander!” 75 And Peter remembered the word of Ihsou, how he had said to him, “Before you cry out, ‘Alexander,’ you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. He is worthy of death. 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. But they rebuked him, 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ, who is it that is persecuting you?” 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a girl came to him and said, “You also were with Ihsou of Galilee.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.” 71 When he had gone out to the gateway, another woman saw him and said to those there, “This man was also with Ihsou of Nazareth.” 72 And again he denied with an oath that he did not know the man. 73 And after a little while the bystanders came and said to Peter, Surely you also are one of them; for your speech betrays you. 74 Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know the man. And straightway he cried out, “Alexander!” 75 And Peter remembered the word of Ihsou which he had said to him, “Before you cry out, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly. MATTHEW 27 1 When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Ihsou to put him to death. 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor. 3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, You have betrayed innocent blood to a sinner. And they said, What is that to us? See to it. 5 And he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed: and when he was come, he was cast out. 6 And the chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the holy place, because it is blood. 7 And they took counsel, and bought of them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Therefore that field is called, The field of blood, unto this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him who was valued, on whom they of the children of Israel valued him; 10 and they gave them to the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.” 11 Now Ihsou stood before the governor; and the governor asked him, saying, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And Ihsou said to him, “You say so.” 12 And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. 13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how many things they testify against you?” 14 But he did not answer him a single word, so that the governor was greatly astonished. 15 Now at the feast the governor used to release to the crowd a prisoner, whom they wanted. 16 Now they had then a notorious prisoner named Barabbas. 17 So when they had gathered them together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release to you, Barabbas, or Ihsou who is called Christ?” 18 For it is clear that they handed him over because of envy. 19 And as he sat upon the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for many have suffered many things this day for his sake. 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask for Barabbas, and that they should release Ihsou. 21 And the governor answered and said unto them, Which of the two will ye that I release unto you? And they said, Barabbas. 22 Pilate saith unto them, What then shall I do with Ihsou which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil has he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. 24 And when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just man: see ye yourselves. 25 And all the people answered and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. 26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had bound Ihsou, he delivered him to be crucified. 27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Ihsou into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole band of soldiers against him. 28 And they stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him. 29 And they plaited a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews. 30 And they spat on him, and took the reed, and smote him on his head.31 And when they had mocked him, they took off the robe from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him. 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; him they compelled to carry his cross. 33 And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which is called the Place of a Skull, 34 they gave him vinegar to drink, mingled with gall: and when he had tasted it, he would not drink. 35 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture they cast lots. 36 And they sat down and watched him there. 37 And they put up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS IHSOU THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38 Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. 39 And those who passed by reviled him, wagging their heads, 40 and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” 41 In the same way the chief priests also mocking him with the scribes and elders said, 42 He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 I have faith in God; I will deliver him now if he wants him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ 44 And the thieves also which were crucified with him reviled him. 45 And from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour Ihsou cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 47 And some of them that stood there, hearing it, said, This man calleth Elias. 48 And immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let alone, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him. 50 And Ihsou cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up the spirit. 51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked; and the rocks were rent; 52 and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose; 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54 And the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Ihsou, when they saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. 55 And many women were there, looking on from afar, who had followed Ihsou from Galilee, ministering to him: 56 among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. 57 And when the feast was over, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Ihsou. 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Ihsou. Then Pilate commanded that the body be given to him. 59And Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed. 61 And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb. 62 On the next day, which was after the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, “Sir, we remember that that deceiver said while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 Therefore make the tomb secure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night and steal him away and say to the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception be done by the first.” 65 Then Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and making it secure. MATTHEW 28 1 Now on the Sabbath, at the time of the preparation, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. 2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing was white as snow. 4 And for fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Ihsou, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7 Go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead. And behold, he is going before you into Galilee. There you will see him. Lo, I told you.” 8 And they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. 9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Ihsou answered them, saying, Hail. And they that came, held his feet, and worshipped him. 10 Then saith Ihsou unto them, Fear not: go, tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there they shall see me. 11 And as they went, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told the chief priests all the things that were done. 12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they took a large sum of money, and gave it to the soldiers, 13 saying, Say, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and you shall be at ease. 15 And they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews unto this day. 16 Then the eleven disciples went into Galilee, to the mountain where Ihsou had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshiped him: but they hesitated. 18 And Ihsou came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth: 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Sacred Spirit: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
