MARK 1 1 The beginning of the gospel of Ihsou Christ, the Son of God: 2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 John came baptizing in the wilderness, and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5 And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a leathern girdle about his loins, and his ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to loose. 8 I have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Sacred Spirit. 9 And it came to pass in those days, that Ihsou came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan. 10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent, and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove: 11 And a voice came from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him out into the wilderness. 13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan, and was with wild beasts, and the angels ministered unto him. 14 Now after that John was delivered up, Ihsou came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel. 16 And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen. 17 And Ihsou said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him. 19 And when he had gone a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending their nets. 20 And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. 21 And they entered Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. 22 And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23 And in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, 24 Saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Ihsou of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? behold who thou art, the Holy One of God. 25 And Ihsou rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and he came out of him. 26 And the unclean spirit convulsed him, and cried with a loud voice, and came out of him. 27 And they were all amazed, so that they questioned with them, saying, “What is this? What new teaching is this? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” 28 And immediately his fame went out throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee. 29 And immediately they went out of the synagogue,They came to the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever, and they immediately told him about her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand and raised her up. And immediately the fever left her, and she ministered to them. 32 And when the sun was setting, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed by demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many who were ill with various diseases, and he cast out many demons, and he did not allow the demons to speak, because they possessed him. 35 And very early in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out and departed into a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36 And Simon and those with him followed him. 37 And when they had found him, they said to him, “Everyone is looking for you.” 38 And he said to them, “Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for for this purpose I was sent forth.” 39 And he was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons. 40 And there came to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 41 But Ihsou, moved with compassion, stretched out his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou cleansed. 42 And immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed. 43 And having been struck with a rod, he immediately cast him out, 44 and said to him, “See, you say nothing, nothing; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” 45 But he went out and began to preach much and to spread the word, so that he could no longer openly enter a city, but was outside in desert places; and they came to him from every direction. And offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 45 But he went out, and began to preach much, and to spread abroad the word, so that he could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came unto him from every quarter. And offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 45 But he went out, and began to preach much, and to spread abroad the word, so that he could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came unto him from every quarter. MARK 2 1 And again he entered Capernaum after some days: and it was heard that he was in the house. 2 And immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no room for them about the door: and he spake the word unto them. 3 And they came unto him, bringing a paralytic, carried by four. 4 And not being able to come nigh unto him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and when they had broken open the bed whereon the paralytic lay. 5 And when Ihsou saw their faith, he saith unto the paralytic, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. 6 But some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why does this man thus speak blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? 8 And immediately Ihsou, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority over the earth to cast out sin, he says to the paralytic, 11 I tell you, take up your bed and go home. 12 And he arose immediately, took up his bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that they all stood and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen it like this.” 13 And he went out again by the sea, and all the people came to him, and he taught them. 14 And passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector's booth, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose up and followed him. 15 And it came to pass, as he sat at table in his house, that many tax collectors and sinners sat with Ihsou and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him. 16 And the scribes and Pharisees, when they saw him eat with tax collectors and sinners, said unto his disciples, "Why doth he eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" 17 When Ihsou heard this, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” 18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, and they came and said to him, “Why do John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 19 Ihsou said to them, “Can the children of the bridegroom fast, since the bridegroom is with them?” As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21 No one sews a piece of new cloth on an old garment; otherwise, the new piece will tear from the old, and a tear will occur. 22 No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the new wine will spill into the wineskins, and the wine will be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins. 23 And it came to pass, that he went through the corn on the sabbath day: and his disciples began to make a way, plucking the ears of corn. 24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold,What do they do on the Sabbath that is not lawful? 25 And he said to them, Have you never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he and they that were with him? 26 How he went into the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the shewbread, which it is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them that were with him? 27 And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord both of the Sabbath and of the Sabbath. MARK 3 1 And he entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there who had a withered hand. 2 And they were questioning him whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, that they might accuse him. 3 And he said to the man who had the withered hand, Stand up in the middle. 4 And he said to them, Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm? To save a life or to destroy? But they kept silent. 5 And he looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, Stretch out your hand. And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored whole as the other. 6 And the Pharisees went out, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him. 7 And Ihsou withdrew with his disciples unto the sea: and great multitudes from Galilee followed him, and from Judea, 8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and from beyond Jordan, and from about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard all the great things that he did, came unto him. 9 And he spake unto his disciples to have a ship ready unto him for the people, lest they should crush him. 10 For he had healed many, so that they fell down to him, that they might touch him. 11 And the unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down to him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. 12 And he charged them much that they should not make him manifest. 13 And he went up into the mountain, and called unto him whom he would; and they came unto him. 14 And he appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them out to preach, 15 and to have power to heal diseases and to cast out demons. 16 And he gave Simon the name Peter; 17 and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he gave them the name Boanerges, which is, Sons of Thunder; 18 and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. And they come into the house; 20 and the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21 And when they which were about him heard it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is out of his mind. 22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth out devils. 23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan rises against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end. 27 No one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house. 28 Truly I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter. 29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness for ever, but is guilty of eternal judgment. 30 Because they said, He has an unclean spirit.31 His brothers and his mother came, and those who were outside sent to him, calling him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and I said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, asking for you.” 33 He answered them, “Who is my mother or my brothers?” 34 And looking around at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 35 For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” MARK 4 1 And again he began to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he was come into a ship to sit in the sea: and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. 2 And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, 3 Hearken ye: Behold, the sower went forth to sow. 4 And it came to pass, that some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. 5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth. 6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and because it had no root, it withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. 8 And some fell on good ground, and it yielded fruit, increasing and yielding, some thirtyfold, some sixtyfold, some a hundredfold. 9 And he said to them, He who has ears to hear, let him hear. 10 And when he was alone, those who were about him with the twelve asked him about the parable. 11 And he said to them, “To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to those outside, everything happens in parables, 12 so that seeing they may see and not perceive; and hearing they may hear and not understand; otherwise they may turn back, and their sins may be forgiven them.” 13 And he said to them, “Do you not know this parable? And how do you know all the parables?” 14 He who sows the word sows 15 These are the ones by the wayside, where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and snatches away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy, 17 and have no root in themselves, but endure for a while. Then, when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble. 18 And these are they which are sown among thorns, which hear the word; 19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 20 And these are they which are sown upon the good ground, which hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixtyfold, some an hundredfold. 21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? 22 For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed; nor was anything hidden, but that it might come to light. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear. 24 And he said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With what measure you use, it will be measured to you, and to those who hear it will be added. 25 For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed upon the ground, 27 and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he knew not. 28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full corn in the ear. 29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.30 And he said, To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what parable shall we compare it? 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the ground; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the fowls of the air can lodge under its shade. 33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it. 34 But without a parable spake he not unto them; but privately to his disciples he explained all things. 35 And on that day, when he was come to the other side, he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side. 36 And leaving the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship: and there were other ships with him. 37 And there arose a great storm of the wind; and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now filling. 38 And he was in the stern, sitting on the cushion: and they awoke him, and said unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? behold, how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? MARK 5 1 And they came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And when he came out of the ship, straightway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 3 who had his dwelling in the tombs; and no man could bind him, 4 for he had often been bound and loosed, and the chains had been torn asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces; and no man could tame him. 5 And always, night and day, in the mountains and in the tombs, he was crying out and cutting himself with stones. 6 But when he saw Ihsou from a distance, he ran and worshiped him. 7 And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with you, Ihsou, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” 8 For he had said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.” 9 And he asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, “Tell me your name, for we are many.” 10 And he begged him many times that he would not send them out of the country. 11 Now there was a large herd of pigs feeding on the mountain. 12 And all the demons begged him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, so that we may enter them.” 13 And Ihsou immediately gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs. And the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand in number, and were drowned in the sea. 14 And those who were feeding the pigs fled and told it in the city and in the countryside. And they went out to see what had happened. 15 And they came to Ihsou, and saw the demon-possessed man sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, and the legionary was in charge. And they were afraid. 16 And they who had seen it told them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and about the pigs. 17 And they began to beg him to depart from their coasts. 18 And when he had come into the boat, the demon-possessed man begged him to go with him. 19 But Ihsou did not leave him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and has had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Ihsou had done for him, and everyone was amazed. 21 And when Ihsou had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around him, and he was by the sea. 22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came. And when he saw him, he fell at his feet, 23 and begged him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live.” 24 And he went away with him, and a large crowd followed him and thronged him. 25 And a woman had a flow of blood twelve years, 26 and had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse, 27 when she heard about Ihsou, she came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment; 28 for she said, If I touch even his garment, I shall be made well. 29 And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she knew in her body that she was healed of her plague. 30 And immediately Ihsou perceived in himself that power had gone out from him,And he turned again to the crowd, and said, Who touched my clothes? 31 And his disciples said to him, You see the crowd pressing against you, and you say, Who touched me? 32 And they looked around to see what had been done to her. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease. 35 While he was still speaking, some came from the synagogue leader, saying, “Your daughter is dead; why are you bothering the teacher any longer?” 36 But Ihsou, hearing the word spoken, said to the synagogue leader, “Do not be afraid, only believe.” 37 And he did not allow anyone to follow him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 And he came to the house of the synagogue leader and saw a commotion, and weeping and wailing loudly. 39 And he went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but is in the grave.” 40 And he, having put them all out, takes the father of the child and the mother and those with him, and goes in where the child was lying. 41 And taking the child by the hand, he says to her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Little girl, I say to you, arise. 42 And immediately the child arose and walked, for she was twelve years old; and they were in a great ecstasy. 43 And he charged them straitly that no one should know it; and he said that something should be given her to eat. MARK 6 1 And he went out from there and came to his own country, and his disciples followed him. 2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue. And many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Whence has this man these things? and what wisdom is this that is given to him, that such mighty works are done by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his brothers here with us?” And they were offended because of him. 4 But Ihsou said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own household." 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled at their unbelief. And he went around the villages, teaching. 7 And he called the twelve to him, and began to send them out two by two, and to give them authority over unclean spirits. 8 And he commanded them that they should take nothing for the journey, save a staff only; that they should take no bread, nor a purse in their girdles; 9 But to be shod with sandals; and not to put on two tunics. 10 And he said unto them, Wheresoever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart thence. 11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart from there, shake off the dust of your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city. 12 And going out, preach that they should repent. 13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. 14 And Herod the king heard, (for his name was become known;) and he said, John the Baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him. 15 And others said, He is Elijah: and others, He is a prophet, or as one of the prophets. 16 But when Herod heard it, he said, “I beheaded John; this is he; he has been raised from the dead.” 17 For Herod himself had sent and arrested John and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her. 18 For John had said to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19 And Herodias had a grudge against him, and would have killed him; and she could not. 20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and held him in high esteem. And when he heard him, he did many things, and his fame was heard. 21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, and the captains of thousands, and the chief men of Galilee, 22 And when the daughter of Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. 23 And he sware unto her, Whatever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, up to half my kingdom. 24 And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. 25 And coming in straightway with diligence unto the king, I made request, saying,I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter. 26 But the king was grieved, and because of his oaths and his friends, he did not want to break it. 27 So the king immediately sent an executioner and ordered his head to be brought. But he went and beheaded him in the prison. 28 He brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl. The girl gave it to her mother. 29 And when his disciples heard it, they came and took up his body, and laid it in a tomb. 30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Ihsou, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. 31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. 32 And they departed into a desert place by ship by themselves. 33 And the multitudes saw them going, and many recognized him, and on foot they came thither from all the cities, and came unto them, and gathered themselves together unto him. 34 And when Ihsou was come out, he saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. 35 And when the time was now come, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and the time is now far spent: 36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and buy themselves bread. for they have nothing to eat. 37 But he answered and said to them, You give them something to eat. And they said to him, Let us go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give them to eat. 38 And he said to them, How many loaves have you? Go and see, and when they find out, they say, Five, and two fish. 39 And he commanded them to all recline on the green grass. 40 And the green leaves fell down, by a hundred, and by fifty. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave to his disciples to set before them: and the two fish he divided among them all. 42 And they all did eat, and were filled: 43 And they took up of the fragments twelve baskets full, and of the fish. 44 And they that had eaten of the loaves were about five thousand men. 45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go before unto the other side unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the multitude. 46 And having sent them away, he went up into a mountain to pray. 47 And when he had looked, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. 48 And he saw them toiling in the sea; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking on the sea: and he would have passed by them. 49 But when they saw him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a spirit, and cried out; 50 for they all saw him, and were troubled. And straightway he spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. 51 And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were astonished beyond measure, and marvelled.52 For they did not gather together for the loaves, for their hearts were hardened. 53 And when they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret, and drew near. 54 And when they came out of the ship, immediately they recognized him, 55 and went through that whole region, and began to carry to the sick who were sick, wherever they heard that he was. 56 And wherever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and besought him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole. MARK 7 1 And the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered together to him. 2 And when they saw some of his disciples eating bread in the synagogue, they were offended. 3 For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands with the palm of their hand, holding the tradition of the elders. 4 And from the marketplaces, unless they are baptized, they do not eat. And there are many other things which they have received to hold, baptisms of cups and pitchers and bronze and couches. 5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with defiled hands?” 6 He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.’ 7 But they worship me with their mouths, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, baptisms of spoons and cups, and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Well do ye transgress the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition. 10 For Moses said, Honor your father and your mother; and, He that curseth father or mother, let him surely die the death. 11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, Corban, that is, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 12 And ye suffer him no more to do anything for his father or his mother; 13 making the word of God of none effect through your tradition which ye have delivered. And many such like things ye do. 14 And calling all the multitude, he said to them, “Hear me, all of you, and understand. 15 There is nothing from outside a man that can enter him, that can divide him; but the things that come out of him, those divide the man. 16 If he has ears to hear, let him hear.” 17 And when he had entered the house from the multitude, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. 18 And he said to them, “Are you also without understanding?” Do you not understand that whatever enters a man from outside cannot be made to live, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and goes out into the sewer, cleansing him of all impurities? 20 But he said, “What comes out of a man, that makes him live.” 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23 All these evils come from within, and enter into the man. 24 And he arose from thence, and went into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And when he had entered into the house, he would not know any thing, and could not find fault. 25 For a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him, and she came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth. She asked him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 Ihsou said to her,Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the hungry. 28 She answered and said to him, Yes, Lord; for even the hungry ones under the table eat of the children's crumbs. 29 And he said to her, For this reason go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter. 30 And when she was come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed. 31 And again he went out from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, and came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. 32 And they bring unto him a deaf man, and besought him that he would touch him. 33 And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and touched the tip of his tongue. 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And immediately his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plainly. 36 And he charged them that they should say nothing: but as he was commanded them, he should preach the more abundantly. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak. MARK 8 1 In those days, when there was a great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Ihsou called his disciples to him and said to them, 2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have been waiting for me now three days and have nothing to eat. 3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will be refreshed on the way; for some of them have come from afar. 4 And his disciples answered him, Whence can these be satisfied here with bread in the wilderness? 5 And he asked them, How many loaves have you? And they said, Seven. 6 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them: and they set before the multitude. 7 And they had a few small fishes: and when he had blessed them, he said, Set them also before them. 8 And they did eat, and were filled: and they left of the fragments seven baskets. 9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away. 10 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha. 11 And the Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, Why doth this generation seek a sign? Verily I say unto you, If a sign be given to this generation, it shall not be given. 13 And he left them, and entered into the ship again, and departed unto the other side. 14 And the disciples came to get bread: and they had not in the ship with them but one loaf. 15 And he spake unto them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. 16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, We have no bread. 17 And Ihsou knowing them said unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? neither do ye yet understand, neither understand? is your heart hardened yet? 18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and remember not? 19 When I broke the five loaves for five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They said unto him, Twelve. 20 And when the seven were filled with the four thousand, how many sparrows' worth of fragments did you see? And they said, Seven. 21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand? 22 And he came to Bethsaida: and they brought unto him a blind man, and besought him that he would touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the village: and when he had anointed his eyes, he put his hands upon him, and asked him what he saw. 24 And when he had looked up, he said, I see men as trees walking. 25 Then he laid his hands on his eyes again, and made him look up, and he straightened up, and he saw everyone clearly. 26 And he sent him away to his own house, saying, “Do not go into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.” 27 And Ihsou and his disciples went out to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 And they answered, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets. 29 And he said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answered and said unto him, Thou art the Christ. 30 And he rebuked them, that no one should speak of him. 31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again; 32 And he spake the word with boldness. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. 33 But he turned, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. 34 And he called the crowd to him with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. MARK 9 1 And he said to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come with power.” 2 And after six days Ihsou took with him Peter and James and John and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them. 3 And his clothes became dazzling white, as white as snow, such as no fuller on earth can whiten them. 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Ihsou. 5 And Peter answered and said to Ihsou, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. 6 For he knew not what he should say: for they were afraid. 7 And there came a cloud overshadowing them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; hear him. 8 And when they had looked round about, they saw no man, save Ihsou only with them. 9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man the things which they had seen, till the Son of man be risen from the dead. 10 And they kept the saying within themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead should be. 11 And they asked him, saying, Do the scribes say that Elias must first come? 12 And he answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be destroyed? 13 But I say unto you, That Elias also came, and they did unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him. 14 And when he came to the disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them. 15 And straightway all the multitude, when they saw him, were amazed, and running to him, they smote him. 16 And he asked the scribes, What are you arguing with them about? 17 And one of the crowd answered and said, Teacher, I brought you my son, who has a mute spirit, 18 and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams, and gnashes his teeth, and becomes paralyzed. And I spoke to your disciples that they should cast him out, but they could not. 19 But he answered and said to him, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I put up with you? bring him to me. 20 And they brought him to him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him: and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming. 21 And he asked his father, How long is it since this came to him? And he said, From a child. 22 And ofttimes it hath cast him both into the fire, and into the water, to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us. 23 And Ihsou said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And immediately the father of the child cried out, and with tears said, Lord, I believe; help my unbelief. 25 And when Ihsou saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And they cried out, and smote him sore, and came out: and he became as one dead, so that many said, He is dead. 27 But Ihsou took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, saying, Why could we not cast it out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. 30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee: and he would not that they should know it: 31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and when he is killed, he shall rise the third day. 32 But they did not understand the word, and were afraid to ask him. 33 And he came to Capernaum; and being in the house he asked them, What were you reasoning among yourselves on the way? 34 And they kept silence: for on the way they disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest. 35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man will be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. 36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and taking him in his arms, he said unto them, 37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth not me, but him that sent me. 38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbade him, because he followeth not us. 39 But Ihsou said, “Do not forbid him, for there is no one who does a miracle in my name who can quickly speak evil of me. 40 For he who is not against us is against us. 41 For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. 42 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the sea. 43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. 44 Where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched. 45 And if your finger causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two feet and be thrown into hell, into the unquenchable fire. 46 Where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every thing is salted with fire, and every sacrifice is salted. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltiness, wherewith shall ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another.and they will kill him; and when he is killed, he will rise again the third day. 32 But they did not understand the word, and were afraid to ask him. 33 And he came to Capernaum; and in the house he asked them, What were you arguing about on the way? 34 But they kept quiet, for they argued with one another on the way, who would be the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve, and said to them, If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all, and servant of all. Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace one with another. MARK 10 1 And he arose from thence, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan: and multitudes came unto him again: and as he was come, he taught them again. 2 And the Pharisees came, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 5 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, For your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment: 6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: 8 And the two shall be one flesh: so they are no more two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man separate. 10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of himself. 11 And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” 13 And they brought him children that he might touch them; but the disciples were rebuking them. 14 But when Ihsou saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” 15 Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. 16 And he took them in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them. 17 And as he was setting out on the road, one ran up to him and knelt down before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18 Ihsou said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.” 19 You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother. 20 He answered and said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 Ihsou looked at him and loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross.” 22 But he, having been grieved at the saying, went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 And Ihsou looking around said to his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. And Ihsou answering said unto them again, Children, how hardly shall they that trust in riches enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they were exceedingly astonished, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27 And Ihsou looking at them said, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. 28 And Peter began to say unto him, Behold, we have left all, and followed thee. 29 And Ihsou answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children,or lands, for my sake and the gospel's, 30 unless he receives a hundredfold now in this present time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first. 32 And they were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Ihsou was leading them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking again the twelve, he began to tell them what things must happen to him: 33 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles, 34 and they will mock him, and scourge him, and spit on him, and kill him; and the third day he will rise again.” 35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him, saying, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask.” 36 And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” 37 They said to him, “Grant us that we may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” 38 But Ihsou said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” 39 They said to him, “We are able.” And Ihsou said unto them, The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and with the baptism that I am baptized with shall ye be baptized: 40 But to sit at my right hand, and at my side, is not mine to give, but it is for them for whom it is prepared. 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. 42 But Ihsou called them together and said to them, “You know that those who are considered to be the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. 46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho, with his disciples, and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the way side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Ihsou of Nazareth, he began to cry out, saying, Ihsou, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many rebuked him, that he should be quiet: but he cried out the more a great deal, Son of David, have mercy on me. 49 And Ihsou said unto him, Call out. And they called unto the blind man, saying unto him, Tarsus, arise, he cryeth. 50 And he, casting away his garment, arose, and came to Ihsou. 51 And Ihsou answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? And the blind man said unto him, Rabbi, that I may receive my sight. 52 And Ihsou said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Ihsou in the way.32 And they were in the way, going up to Jerusalem: and Ihsou went before them, and they were amazed: and they that followed were afraid. MARK 11 1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 2 and said to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and lead it away. 3 And if he says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of it.’ And straightway he will send him here. 4 And they went out and found the colt tied outside at the door, in the street, and they were untying it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they said to them just as Ihsou had commanded, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Ihsou, and they threw their clothes on him, and he sat on him. 8 And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 And those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom in the name of the Lord, the son of our father David! Hosanna in the highest! 11 And Ihsou entered Jerusalem and into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. 12 And on the next day, when they had left Bethany, he was hungry. 13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves: for it was not the season of figs. 14 And Ihsou answered and said unto it, Let no fruit of thee henceforth be eaten for ever. And his disciples heard it. 15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Ihsou entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves: 16 And suffered them not to bring vessels into the temple. 17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations a house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. 18 And the scribes and the chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people were astonished at his doctrine. 19 And when he was come out of the city, he went forth. 20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter remembering said unto him, Rabbi, behold, the fig tree which I touched is withered away. 22 And Ihsou answering said unto them, Have faith in God. 23 For truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever you ask for when you pray, believe that you receive it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, forgive whatever you have against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your trespasses. 27 And they came again to Jerusalem, and in the temple, walking,The chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to him, 28 and said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority to do these things?” 29 And Ihsou answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.” 31 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven, he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? 32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all counted John, that he was a prophet indeed. 33 And they answered and said unto Ihsou, We know not. And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. MARK 12 1 And he began to speak to them in parables, saying, A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a well, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went away into exile. 2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive of the fruit of the vineyard of the husbandmen. 3 And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty. 4 And again he sent to them another servant: and they stoned him also, and beheaded him, and sent him away sanctified. 5 And again he sent another; and that one also they killed; and many others, whom they beat, and whom they killed. 6 And having one son also, he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son. 7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours. 8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. 9 What then shall the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandmen, and give the vineyard to others. 10 Have you not read this scripture, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 11 This was done by the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes. 12 And they sought to lay hold on him, and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way. 13 And they sent unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in a word. 14 And when they were come, they said unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: render unto Caesar, or not? 15 To give, or not to give. But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a denarius, that I may see. 16 And they brought him. And he saith unto them, Whose image and superscription is this? And they said unto him, Caesar's. 17 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him. 18 And the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, come to him, and ask him, saying, 19 Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave a wife, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 20 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed: 21 And the second took her, and dying left no seed: and the third likewise. 22 And the brethren took her, and died, and left no seed. seven, and left no seed. Last of all the woman died also. 23 Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven had her to wife. 24 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Therefore deceive ye not, knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God: 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as angels in heaven. 26 But as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living; you do greatly err. 28 And one of the scribes came and heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? 29 And Ihsou answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these. 32 And the scribe said to him, ‘Well said, Teacher, you have said the truth, that there is one God, and there is no other but he. 33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And Ihsou, seeing that he answered wisely, said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God: and no man durst any more ask him any question. 35 And Ihsou answered and said, as he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? 36 For David himself said in the Sacred Spirit, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. 37 David therefore calleth him Lord: and whence is he his son? And the great multitude heard him with a loud voice. 38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to walk in long robes, and to be greeted with greetings in the marketplaces, 39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the chiefest places at feasts, 40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation. 41 And Ihsou sat down opposite the treasury, and beheld how the multitude cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And a certain poor widow came and put in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called his disciples to him, and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast in more than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For they all have cast in of their abundance: but she of her want hath cast in all that she had, even all her living.and to love one's neighbor as oneself is more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. 34 And Ihsou, seeing that he answered wisely, said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one dared to ask him any more questions. 35 And Ihsou answered and said, as he taught in the temple, "How say the scribes that the Christ is the son of David? 36 For David himself said in the Holy Spirit, “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.’ 37 David himself therefore calls him Lord, and whence is he his son?” And the great crowd heard him with a loud voice. 38 And he said to them in his teaching, “Watch out for the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and greet people in the marketplaces, 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and the best seats at feasts, 40 who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers—these will receive greater condemnation. 41 And Ihsou sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury, and many rich people put in much. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who have put into the treasury. 44 For they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”and to love one's neighbor as oneself is more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. 44 For they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” MARK 13 1 And as he was going out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, look! What great stones and what great buildings!” 2 And Ihsou answered and said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” 3 And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5 But Ihsou answered them and began to say, “Take heed that no one deceives you. 6 For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be terrified. For this must happen, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and pestilences. These are the beginnings of these sorrows. 9 But take heed to yourselves: for they will deliver you up to councils, and ye shall be beaten in synagogues, and ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11 But when they shall deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither meditate thereon: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Sacred Spirit. 12 And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and a father his child: and children shall rise up against parents, and shall cause them to be put to death: 13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. 14 But when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, let the reader understand, then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 And let him who is on the housetop not go down into his house, nor enter in, lest he take anything out of his house. 16 And let him who is in the field not turn back, lest he take his clothes. 17 But woe to those who are with child and to those who give suck in those days. 18 But pray that your flight may not be in winter. 19 For those days will be days of tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, no, nor ever will be. 20 And except the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. 21 And then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or, Lo, there; believe it not. 22 For false Christs and false prophets shall arise, and shall shew signs and wonders; to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 But you see, behold, I have foretold you all things. 24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, 25 and the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken. 26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then shall he send forth his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth unto the uttermost part of heaven.28 Now learn a parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near, at the doors. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will not pass away until all these things happen. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 32 But about that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Watch, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. 34 It is as if a man leaving his house, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be quick. 35 Be quick therefore; for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether at midnight, or at the crack of dawn, or in the morning. 36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say, be quick. MARK 14 1 Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were two days away. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death. 2 But they said, Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar of the people. 3 And when he was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, which lay with him, there came a woman having an alabaster box of very costly ointment of spikenard: and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4 But there were some indignant within themselves, saying, Why was this waste of the ointment? 5 For this could have been done for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor. And they were angry with her. 6 But Ihsou said, Let her alone; why trouble her? She has done a good work for me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do them good; but you will not always have me. 8 What she has done, she has prepared my body for burial. 9 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her. 10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and offered him money, and sought how they might betray him. 12 And on the first day of unleavened bread, when the passover was sacrificed, his disciples said to him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover? 13 And he sent two of his disciples, and said unto them, Go ye into the city, and a man shall meet you, carrying a pitcher of water: follow him. 14 And whithersoever he entereth in, say unto the master of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the passover with my disciples? 15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready for us. 16 And his disciples went out, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 17 And he appeared to them, and came with the twelve. 18 And as they sat down and ate, Ihsou said, “Truly I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” 19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one by one, “What about me?” and another, “What about me?” 20 But he answered them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping with me in the dish.” 21 The Son of Man goes, just as it is written about him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born. 22 And as they were eating, Ihsou took bread, and when he had blessed it, he gave it to them, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly I tell you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27 And Ihsou said to them, “All of you will be offended because of me this night; for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’”28 But after I am raised, I will go before you to Galilee. 29 Peter said to him, “Even if all are offended, yet I will not be offended.” 30 Ihsou said to him, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the crow rings twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said even more, “If I have to die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same thing. 32 And they come to a place called Gethsemane; and he saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray. 33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be troubled. 34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and make haste. 35 And he went a little way, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it be possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, Ahvva, Father, all things are possible unto thee. Take this cup from me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what you will. 37 And he came and found them sitting, and said to Peter, Simon, are you sitting? Could you not fast one hour? 38 Fast and pray, that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. 40 And he turned and found them sitting again; for their eyes were heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. 41 And the third time came, and said unto them, Sit down now, and take your rest: for it is enough; the hour is at hand: behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise, let us go: behold, he that betrayeth me is at hand. 43 And immediately, while he yet spake, Judas, one of the twelve, cometh, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 But he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I kiss, he is he: lay hold on him, and lead him away safely. 45 And coming, straightway he went up to him, and said, Rabbi, Rabbi; and kissed him. 46 And they laid their hands on him, and rebuked him. 47 And one of them that stood by, striking a sword, struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his ear. 48 And Ihsou answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves to take me? 49 I was with you daily in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me, but that the scriptures might be fulfilled. 50 And they all left him and fled. 51 And a young man followed him, wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. And the young men held him. 52 And he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked. 53 And they led Ihsou away to the high priest; and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes gathered together with him. 54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself toward the light. 55 And the chief priests and all the council sought witness against Ihsou, to put him to death; and found none. 56 For many bare false witness against him, and their witness agreed not.57 And some rose up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.’ 59But their testimony was not consistent. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Ihsou, saying, “Have you no answer? What is it that these men testify against you?” 61 But he held his peace and answered no one. Again the high priest asked him, saying, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62 Ihsou said, “I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the blasphemy; what do you think?” But all condemned him as deserving of death. 65 Some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to strike him with their fists, and to say to him, “Prophesy!” And the officers struck him with blows. 66 And while Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the high priest's maids came, 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, "You also were with Ihsou of Nazareth." 68 But he denied it, saying, "I do not know, nor do I believe what you are saying." And he went out into the courtyard; and a loud voice cried out. 69 And the maid saw him again and began to say to the bystanders that this man was one of them. 70 But he denied it again. And after a little while again those who stood by said to Peter, Surely you are one of them; for you are also a Galilean, and your speech is like that. 71 But he began to curse and to deny that he did not know this man of whom you speak. 72 And he cried out a second time. And Peter remembered the word which Ihsou had said to him, Before the trumpet shall sound twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he broke down and wept.69 And the maid seeing him again began to say to the bystanders that this man was one of them. 70 But he denied it again. And after a little while again the bystanders said to Peter, Surely you are one of them; for you are a Galilean, and your speech is like that. 71 But he began to curse and to deny, saying, I do not know this man of whom you speak. 72 And he cried out a second time. And Peter remembered the word which Ihsou had said to him, Before the devil shall cry twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he broke down and wept. MARK 15 1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests, having held a council with the elders and scribes and the whole council, bound Ihsou, and led him away, and delivered him to Pilate. 2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered and said unto him, Thou sayest. 3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing. 4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee. 5 But Ihsou answered nothing more, so that Pilate marvelled. 6 Now at the feast he released to them a prisoner, whom they had been waiting for. 7 And with the rebels who had committed murder in the rebellion, he was bound, one called Barabbas. 8 And the crowd, having cried out, began to demand, as they had always done, that he should release to them. 9 And Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 10 For it was because of envy that the chief priests had delivered him up. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, that he should release Barabbas unto them. 12 And Pilate answered and said unto them again, What will ye that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews? 13 And they cried out again, Crucify him. 14 And Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, Crucify him. 15 And Pilate, willing to content the people, released unto them Barabbas; and delivered Ihsou, having bound him, to be crucified. 16 Then the soldiers led him away into the palace, which is called the Praetorium, and called together the whole company of soldiers, 17 and they clothed him in purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, 18 and began to mock him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! 19 And they struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and bowed their knees, and worshipped him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him. 21 And they compelled one Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. 22 And they brought him to the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, Place of a Skull. 23 And they gave him wine mixed with myrrh to drink; but he took it not. 24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, to decide what each should take. 25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. 26 And the superscription of his accusation was written, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 27 And with him were crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left. 28 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors. 29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, 30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross. 31 In like manner also the chief priests mocking among themselves with the scribes said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him. 33 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.34 And at the ninth hour Ihsou cried with a loud voice, saying, Elohim, Elohim, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elijah. 36 And he ran, and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. 37 And Ihsou, when he had cried with a loud voice, gave up the spirit. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. 40 And there were women looking on afar off, among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome, 41 who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him: and many other women which came up with him to Jerusalem. 42 And when it was day of the week, that is, the day before the sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a rich man, who also himself waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and asked the body of Ihsou. 44 And Pilate marveled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. 45 And when he had learned of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 And having bought linen cloth, he took him down, and wrapped him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which was hewn out of rock: and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid. MARK 16 1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the sabbath, when the sun had risen, they came unto the sepulchre. 3 And said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4 And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right hand, clothed in a white garment: and they were astonished. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: ye seek Ihsou of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. 8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the tomb: for trembling and astonishment had come upon them: and they said nothing, for they were afraid. 9 Now when he was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. 10 She went and told them that had been with him, mourning and weeping. 11 And they, hearing that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed. 12 And after these things, he appeared in another form to two of them as they went, walking in the country. 13 And they went and told the rest; but they believed not them either. 14 Afterward he appeared to the eleven, and reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen him after he had risen. 15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.” 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. 19 So then the Lord, after he had spoken to them, was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 They went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that followed. Amen.
