JOHN 1 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God (the Theon), and the Word was God (Theos). When no definite article is used with the noun (or other substantive),it is called the "anarthrous" use. The anarthrous construction for God (θεὸς) in John 1:1 is used to indicate the quality or characteristics of the articular noun The Word (ὀ λόγος). It does not say "the Theos", it just says "Theos". The quality or characteristic is "Godly". However, the Greek word for Godly is Γοδλυ and was not used by the writer of John 1.1 Therefore “and The Word was God” is referring to His beginning as “The Aviat”. In The Beginning is referring to The Beginning of Creation. The Aviat is The Beginning of Creation (Revelation 3.14). He was always Godly. God has no beginning or ending, He is Eternal. That's the difference. From time indefinite to time indefinite is God. God does not remember a beginning therefore it is logical that He will also have no end. Read the Prologue of The New Covenant Bible to learn about The Aviat. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a testimony, to testify about the light, so that all through him might believe. 8 He was not the light, but to bear witness about the light. 9 He was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came into the world, and they themselves received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 16 And of his fulness have we all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses; but grace and truth came through Ihsou Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. 19 And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 And he confessed, and did not deny; but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not. Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 Then I said to him, “Who are you? Let us give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23 He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” 24 Now those who were sent were Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, and said to him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but among you standeth one whom ye know not: 27 He it is, who cometh after me, which is preferred before me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose. 28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 The next day John seeth Ihsou coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me, because he was before me. 31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it abode upon him. 33 And I did not see him; but he who sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me, ‘On whomever you see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, he is the one.’This is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 34 And I saw and testified that this is the Son of God. 35 The next day John stood again, and two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Ihsou as he walked, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Ihsou. 38 And Ihsou turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to him, “Rabbi!” which is to say, “Teacher, where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and see.” So we came and saw where he was staying. They stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first finds his own brother Simon and says to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means, being interpreted, the Christ). 42 He brought him to Ihsou. And Ihsou looking at him said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonah; thou shalt be called Cephas, which is, being interpreted, Peter. 43 The next day Ihsou would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Ihsou of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. 47 Ihsou saw Nathanael coming unto him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile. 48 Nathanal saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Ihsou answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 49 Nathanal answered and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. 50 Ihsou answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? I am greater than these." 51 And he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, from now on you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."43 The next day Ihsou would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Ihsou the son of Joseph, of Nazareth. 46 And Nathanael saith unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. 47 Ihsou saw Nathanael coming to him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit.” 48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Ihsou answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered and said to him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” 50 Ihsou answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? I am greater than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”43 The next day Ihsou would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. I am greater than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” JOHN 2 1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Ihsou was there. 2 And Ihsou was also invited, and his disciples, to the wedding. 3 And when the wine ran out, the mother of Ihsou said to him, “They have no wine.” 4 Ihsou said to her, “Woman, what have I to do with you? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” 6 Now there were six stone water jars set there, after the Jewish ritual of purification, holding two or three gallons each. 7 Ihsou saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw now, and bear to the ruler of the feast. And they drew. 9 And when the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: but the servants which had drawn the water knew not whence it was: the ruler of the feast calleth the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of signs did Ihsou in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they abode there not many days. 13 And the passover of the Jews was at hand, and Ihsou went up to Jerusalem. 14 And he found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers sitting. 15 And he made a basket of cords and drove them all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen. He poured out the coins of the moneychangers and overturned the tables. 16 And he said to those who were selling doves, “Get these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a house of trade.” 17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house has eaten me up.” 18 Then the Jews answered and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 19 Ihsou answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days? 21 Now he spake of the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them: and they believed the scripture, and the word which Ihsou had spoken. 23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, at the feast, many believed in his name, when they saw the signs which he did. 24 But Ihsou did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, 25 and because he needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. JOHN 3 1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 The same came to Ihsou by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Ihsou answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born? 5 Ihsou answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born from above.' 8 The spirit blows where it wishes, and you hear its voice, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit. 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 Ihsou answered and said unto him, Art thou the teacher of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, That which we know we speak, and that which we have seen we testify: and ye receive not our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not; how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13 And no one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He who believes in him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. 22 After these things Ihsou and his disciples came into the land of Judea; and there he was teaching and baptizing. 23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there; and they came and were baptized. 24 For John was yet shut up in prison. 25 Then a question arose from John's disciples with the Jews about purification. 26 And I came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you testified, behold, he is baptizing, and all are coming to him.” 27 John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves bear witness that I said,I am not the Christ, but I am sent before him. 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. This joy therefore is fulfilled. 30 He sees him increasing, but I decreasing. 31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth is earthly, and speaks from the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no one receives his testimony. 33 He who has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true. 34 For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. JOHN 4 1 When the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Ihsou was making and baptizing more disciples than John, 2 and Ihsou himself did not baptize, but his disciples, 3 he left Judea and went away again to Galilee. 4 And he saw that he was passing through Samaria. 5 So he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there. Now Ihsou, tired from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman from Samaria comes to draw water. Ihsou says to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 For his disciples have gone away into the city to buy food. 9 The Samaritan woman says to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews do not associate with Samaritans. 10 Ihsou answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who is it that saith unto thee, Give me to drink? thou wouldest have asked him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his children? 13 Ihsou answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst: but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw. 16 Ihsou saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come draw. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Ihsou said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in this thou hast said truly. 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain: and ye say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. 21 Ihsou said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. For the Father seeks such to worship him. 24 God is Spirit, and he seeks those who worship him to worship him in spirit and truth. 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming, who is called Christ. When he comes, he will tell us everything.” 26 Ihsou said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” 27 At this his disciples came and were amazed that he was talking with a woman. No one said, “What do you want?” or, “What are you talking about with her?” 28 The woman left her water jar and went off into the city and said to the people, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 So they went out of the city and came to him.31 And in the meantime the disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, eat. 32 But he said to them, I have food to eat that you do not know about. 33 The disciples therefore said to one another, When did he give him something to eat? 34 Ihsou said to them, My desire is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes harvest?’ Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true, That one soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored: others labored, and ye are entered into their labor. 39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him because of the woman's testimony, which testified, He told me all that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them. And he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own word. 42 They said to the woman, "We no longer believe because of what you said; for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world." 43 After two days he left there and went to Galilee. 44 For Ihsou himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 When he came to Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, having heard all the miracles he had done in Jerusalem at the feast. They also went to the feast. 46 So Ihsou came again to Cana of Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain king, whose son was sick in Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Ihsou had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and besought him that he would come down and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48 Ihsou therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49 The king saith unto him, Lord, come down ere my child die. 50 Ihsou saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Ihsou had spoken unto him, and went his way. 51 And as he was yet going down, his servants answered and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 And he went down at an hour more excellent than they. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. 53 Then knew the father that it was at that hour in which Ihsou said unto him, Thy son liveth: and he believed, and his whole house. 54 This is again the second sign that Ihsou performed, having come out of Judea into Galilee.for they are white already to harvest. 39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman which testified, Thou toldest me all things that ever I did. 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them. JOHN 5 1 After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Ihsou went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there was in Jerusalem by the sheep pool, which is called in the Hebrews Bethesda, having five porches. 3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then after the troubling of the water stepped in, was made whole. 5 Now a man was there who had been infirm for thirty-eight years. 6 When Ihsou saw him lying there, and knew that he had been in that condition for a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to get well?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8 Ihsou said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked. And it was the sabbath day. 10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was healed, It is the sabbath day: why dost thou not carry thy bed? 11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk. 12 They asked him therefore, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk? 13 But the man who was healed did not know who it was, for Ihsou had dismissed the crowd in that place. 14 After this Ihsou found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you have been healed. Stop sinning, so that no one will come to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Ihsou who had made him well. 16 For this reason the Jews were persecuting Ihsou and were seeking to kill him, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. 17 But Ihsou answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I am working.” 18 For this reason the Jews sought to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God. 19 Then Ihsou answered and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, these things the Son also will do in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that himself does; and greater works than these he will show him, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life, even so the Son also gives life to whomever he wills. 22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in him who sent me has eternal life, and will not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself: 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.28 Do not marvel at this, for the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice, 29 and come out—those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. 30 I can do nothing on my own initiative. I judge only as I hear. My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the Father who sent me. 31 If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the witness which he bears about me is true. 33 You sent to John, and he bore witness to the truth. 34 But I do not receive witness from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. 35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a time in his light. 36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. 37 And the Father which sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, neither seen his figure: 38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. 39 Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me: 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. 41 I receive not glory from men: 42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. 43 I have spoken in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. 44 How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another, and you do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you, Moses, in whom you have rebelled. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words? You have neither seen him nor heard his voice, 38 nor do you have his word abiding in you, because you do not believe the one he sent. 39 Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and they are the ones that testify about me. 40 Yet you are unwilling to come to me that you may have life. 41 I do not receive glory from men. 42 But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. 43 I have spoken in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, him you will receive. JOHN 6 1 After these things Ihsou went over the sea of Galilee, which is of Tiberias. 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his signs which he did on them that were sick. 3 And Ihsou went up into the mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. 4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh at hand. 5 When Ihsou therefore lifted up his eyes, and saw that a great multitude came unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6 He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he was about to do. 7 Philip answered him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not enough for them, for each one of them to take a little.” 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they among so many?” 10 Ihsou said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand. 11 Then Ihsou took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude; likewise also of the fishes as much as they would. 12 And when they were filled, he said to his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13 And they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained to them that were eaten. 14 When the people therefore saw the sign which Ihsou had done, they said, This is truly the Prophet that should come into the world. 15 Ihsou therefore, knowing that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain himself alone. 16 And when it was day, his disciples went down to the sea, 17 and entered into a ship, and went over the sea to Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Ihsou spake not unto them: 18 And the sea arose, and a great wind blew. 19 And when they were about three or four miles distant, they saw Ihsou walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. 20 But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 So they were willing to take him into the ship, and immediately the ship was at the land to which they were going. 22 The next day the crowd that had stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there except the one his disciples had entered, and that Ihsou had not entered the boat with his disciples, but that his disciples had gone away alone. 23 But boats from Tiberias came near the place where they had eaten bread after the Lord had given thanks. 24 When the crowd saw that Ihsou was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Ihsou. 25 And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did this happen?” 26 Ihsou answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed it.28 Then said I unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Ihsou answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. 30 Then said I unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what workest thou? 31 Our fathers did eat the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Ihsou said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. 34 Then I said to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” 35 Ihsou said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will in no way cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 41 The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. 42 And they said, Is not this Ihsou, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then says he, I came down from heaven? 43 Ihsou therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘They are all taught by God.’ Everyone therefore who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the one who is from God, he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that whoever eats of it may not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore argued among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us flesh to eat?” 53 Then Ihsou said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me,I live because of the Father; and he who eats me, he also will live because of me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate manna, and died: he who eats this bread shall live for ever. 59These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard it, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Ihsou knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Does this offend you? 62 If you see the Son of Man ascending where he was before, 63 it is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe. For Ihsou knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. 65 And he said, “Therefore I said to you that no one can come to me unless it has been granted to him by my Father.” 66 From this time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him. 67 Then Ihsou said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also.” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 And we have believed and come to know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 70 Ihsou answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve? And one of you is a devil?” 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. JOHN 7 1 After these things Ihsou walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 And the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was nigh at hand. 3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may see the works which thou doest. 4 For no man knoweth that he doeth in secret; but he seeketh that he be openly known. If thou do these things, shew thyself unto the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. 6 Then Ihsou said to them, “Our time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to this feast; I am not going up to this feast, because our time is not yet fully fulfilled.” 9 When he had said this to them, he stayed in Galilee. 10 But when his brothers had gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. 13 No man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. 14 Now about the midst of the feast Ihsou went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having not been taught? 16 Ihsou answered them, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If he will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and none of you keepeth the law? Why seek ye to cast me out? 20 The multitude answered and said, Thou hast a devil; who seeketh to cast thee out? 21 Ihsou answered and said unto them, I have done a work, and ye all marvel. 22 Therefore Moses gave you circumcision, not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers: and ye circumcise a man on the sabbath day. 23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, do you scold me because I made a man of all men well on the Sabbath? 24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment. 25 Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, “Is this not he whom they seek to kill?” 26 But he spoke boldly, and no one said to him, “Do the rulers really know that this is the Christ?” 27 But we know this man from where he comes; but when the Christ comes, no one will know from where he comes. 28 Then cried Ihsou in the temple, as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I have not spoken of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. 29 And I know him, that I am from him, and he sent me. 30 And they sought therefore to take him: but no man laid a hand on him, because his hour was not yet come. 31 And many of the people believed on him,And they said, When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than these which this man has done? 32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to arrest him. 33 Ihsou said to them, “I am with you for a little while longer, and then I go to the one who sent me. 34 You will seek me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come. 35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go, that we shall not find him? Will he not go into the dispersion of the Greeks, and teach the Greeks? 36 What is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come? 37 Now in the last day, that great day of the feast, Ihsou stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his belly will flow rivers of living water. 39 But this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believe in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Ihsou was not yet glorified. 40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this word, said, This is of a truth the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. Others said, Does the Christ come from Galilee? 42 Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was? 43 Therefore there was a division in the multitude because of him. 44 And some of them would have taken him, but no one laid hands on him. 45 Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, Why did you not bring him? 46 The servants answered, Never man spake like this man. 47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, Be not ye also deceived? 48 Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees? 49 But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed. 50 Nicodemus saith unto them, which came to him by night, being one of them, 51 Doth not our law judge a man, except it first hear him, and know what he doeth? 52 They answered and said to him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee." 53 And they went every man to his own house.as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 But this he said of the Spirit, whom they that believe on him were to receive: for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Ihsou was not yet glorified. 40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this word, said, This is of a truth the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ: but others said, Shall the Christ come out of Galilee? Search and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee." 53 And they went every man to his own house. JOHN 8 1 And Ihsou went to the Mount of Olives. 2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him: and he sat down and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery: and when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act: 5 And in the law of Moses commanded us that such should be stoned: what sayest thou? 6 And this they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Ihsou stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger, not pretending. 7 But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 And again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 And they, hearing and being judged by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the elders to the last. And Ihsou was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 And Ihsou having lifted up himself, and seeing no man save the woman, said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11 She said, No man, Lord. And Ihsou said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. 12 Then spake Ihsou unto them again, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. 13 The Pharisees therefore said to him, You bear witness about yourself; your testimony is not true. 14 Ihsou answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. 16 And if I do judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me. 17 And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true. 18 I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. 19 They said therefore unto him, Where is thy father? Ihsou answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. 20 These words spake Ihsou in the prison, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. 21 Then Ihsou said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.” 22 The Jews therefore said, “Will he kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come?’ 23 He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.” 24 I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins. 25 They said therefore to him, Who are you? And Ihsou said to them, What I have spoken to you from the beginning, I have spoken to you. 26 I have many things to say and to judge about you; but he who sent me is true, and I speak to the world what I have heard from him. 27 They did not know that he spoke to them of the Father. 28 Then Ihsou said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man,Then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing on my own initiative, but as my Father taught me, I speak these things. 29 And he who sent me is with me; the Father has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him. 30 As he spoke these things, many believed in him. 31 Then Ihsou said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never been in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34 Ihsou answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the son abideth for ever. 36 If therefore the son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham's seed, but you seek to kill me, because our word has no place in you. 38 I speak what I have seen with my Father; and you do what you have seen with your father. 39 They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Ihsou said to them, If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You do the deeds of your father. I said to him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, God.” 42 Ihsou said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came forth and am here from God. I have not spoken on my own authority, but he sent me. 43 Why do you not understand my speech? You cannot hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar. 45 But if I speak the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I speak the truth, why believe ye me not? 47 He that is of God heareth the words of God; therefore ye hear them not, because ye are not of God. 48 The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? 49 Ihsou answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me. 50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is he that seeketh and judgeth. 51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If ye keep my word, ye shall never see death. 52 The Jews therefore said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil: Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If thou keep my word, thou shalt never taste of death. 53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: who makest thou thyself? 54 Ihsou answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifies me, of whom ye say, that he is your God. 55 Yet ye have not known him: but I have known him: and if I should say, I know him not, I should be like unto you.You are a liar; but I know him, and I keep his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad. 57 The Jews therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?” 58 Ihsou said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.” 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him. But Ihsou hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through their midst, and so he passed by. JOHN 9 1 And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Ihsou answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I see that I work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had said this, he took a lump of clay, made clay of the clay, and anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means, “Sent”). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 The neighbors therefore, and those who had seen him before that he had been blind, said, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Others said, “It is he,” and others, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” 10 Then said I unto him, How were thine eyes opened? 11 He answered and said, A man called Ihsou made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash. And I went and washed, and received sight. 12 And I said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not. 13 And they brought him to the Pharisees, which had been blind. 14 And it was the sabbath day when Ihsou made the clay, and opened his eyes. 15 Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” 16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he does not keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them. 17 They said to the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.” 18 The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight, 19 and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then does he now see? 20 His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind. 21 But how he now sees we do not know; or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him; he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed that he was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. 23 Therefore his parents said, "He is of age; ask him." 24 Then they called the man who had been blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner." 25 He answered and said, "Whether he is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I know, that he was blind, and now I see." 26 Then I said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?" 27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not hear; why do you want to hear it again?" Do you also want to become his disciples? 28 Then they reviled him, saying,You are his disciple; we are Moses' disciples. 29 We know that God spoke to Moses; but we do not know where this man is from. 30 The man answered and said to them, “This is a wonderful thing, that you do not know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes.” 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is godly and does his will, he listens to him. 32 Since the world began, it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of one born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing. 34 They answered and said to him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” And they cast him out. 35 Ihsou heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” 36 He answered and said, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?” 37 Ihsou said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.” 38 He said, “I believe, Lord.” And he worshiped him. 39 And Ihsou said, For judgment I came into this world, that they which see not might see, and that they which see might become blind. 40 And they which were with him heard these things of the Pharisees, and said unto him, Are we not blind also? 41 Ihsou said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth. JOHN 10 1 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, that one is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The doorkeeper opens the door, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he has put his own sheep out, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers. 6 Ihsou spoke this parable to them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. 7 So Ihsou said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door for the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. By me, whoever enters will be saved. He will go in and out and find peace. 10 The thief comes only to steal and destroy and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 But the hired hand, and not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees. The wolf snatches them and scatters the sheep. 13 The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my own, and am known of mine. 15 As the Father knows me, so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: they also see me, and hear my voice: and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have authority to be, and I have authority to take it again. This commandment I received from my Father. 19 Therefore there was a division again among the Jews for these words. 20 And many of them said, He has a demon, and is raving mad: why listen ye to him? 21 Others said, These are not the sayings of one possessed with a demon: cannot a demon open the eyes of the blind? 22 Now the dedication was in Jerusalem, and it was winter. 23 And Ihsou walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. 24 Then the Jews surrounded him and said to him, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Ihsou answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name, these testify about me. 26 But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you.” 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which I have given them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.30 I and the Father are one. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32 Ihsou answered them, Many good works have I shown you from my Father; for which of them do you stone me? 33 The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy; and because thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34 Ihsou answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35 If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken, 36 of whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, of whom you say, You blaspheme, because I said, I am the Son of God? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not: 38 But if I do, though you believe me not, believe the works: that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in him. 39 So they sought again to take him; and he went out of their hand. 40 And he went away again beyond the Jordan into the place where John at first baptized, and there he remained. 41 And many came to him, and said, John did no sign: but all things that John spake of this man were true. 42 And many believed in him there. JOHN 11 1 Now a certain man, Lazarus of Bethany, of the town of Mary and her sister Martha, was sick. 2 It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and washed his feet with the tears of her brother Lazarus, whose brother was sick. 3 Therefore his brethren sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. 4 When Ihsou heard it, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. 5 Now Ihsou loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 When therefore he heard that she was sick, he abode two days in the same place where he was. 7 Then after this he saith unto his disciples, Let us go into Judea again. 8 The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews of late sought to stone thee, and goest thou thither again? 9 Ihsou answered, Are there not twelve hours of the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. 10 But if he walks at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him. 11 These things he said, and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go that I may awaken him. 12 His disciples therefore said to him, Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will get well. 13 Now Ihsou had spoken of his death; but they thought that he had spoken of taking rest in sleep. 14 Then Ihsou said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 15 And I am glad for your sakes, that you may believe, that I was not there, but went to him. 16 Then Thomas, called Didymus, said to his disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” 17 Then Ihsou came and found him already four days in the tomb. 18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off. 19 And many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to inquire about their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Ihsou was coming, she went to him, but Mary sat in the house. 21 Martha said to Ihsou, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.” 23 Ihsou said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 Ihsou said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, even though he dies, will live. 26 And everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” 28 When she had said this, she went her way and called her sister Mary secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29 When she heard this, she got up quickly and went to him. 30 Ihsou no longer went into the town, but remained in the place where Martha had waited on him. 31 The Jews who were with her in the house, and who were watching her, when they saw Mary get up quickly and go out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.” 32 Then Mary, when she was come where Ihsou was, saw him, and fell at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here,My brother is not dead. 33 When Ihsou therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, 34 and said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. 35 And Ihsou wept. 36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he kissed him. 37 Which of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have kept this man from dying? 38 Then Ihsou, again moved with emotion, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39 Ihsou said, “Look at the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, he is alive; for he has been dead for four days.” 40 Ihsou said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone on which the dead man was lying. Then Ihsou lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.” 42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me. 43 And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 44 And the man that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Ihsou saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. 45 Many therefore of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Ihsou did, believed on him. 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what things Ihsou had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. 48 If we let him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.” 49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. 50 You do not consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” 51 He did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Ihsou would die for the nation, 52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather into one the children of God who were scattered abroad. 53 From that day on they took counsel to kill him. 54 Ihsou therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he remained with his disciples. 55 Now the Jewish Passover was at hand, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves. 56 So they sought Ihsou, and said to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think that he will not come to the feast?” 57 And the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, so that they might arrest him.37 But some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have kept this man from dying? 38 Then Ihsou again groaning in himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39 Ihsou saith, Behold the stone. Martha, the sister of the dead man, saith unto him, Lord, he is alive; for he is the fourth day. 40 Ihsou saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? 41 So they took away the stone on which the dead man was lying. Then Ihsou lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 And I knew that you always hear me, but because of the crowd standing there I said it, so that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said this, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 And the dead man came out, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped in a cloth. Ihsou saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. 45 Many therefore of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Ihsou did, believed on him. 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Ihsou did. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. 48 If we let him alone this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation. 49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. 50 Do not consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish.” 51 He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Ihsou would die for the nation, 52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather into one the children of God who were scattered abroad. 53 So from that day on they took counsel to kill him. 54 Ihsou therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there he continued with his disciples. 55 Now the Jewish Passover was at hand, and many went up out of the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves. 56 So they were looking for Ihsou and saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? He will not come to the feast.” 57 And the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it so that they might arrest him.but that he might gather together into one the children of God which were scattered abroad. 53 From that day forth they took counsel together to kill him. 54 Ihsou therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but went thence into the country near the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he continued with his disciples. 55 And the passover of the Jews was nigh at hand: and many went up out of the country to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves. 56 So they sought Ihsou, and said to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? He will not come to the feast.” 57 And the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it so that they might arrest him. JOHN 12 1 Then Ihsou six days before the Passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom he had raised from the dead. 2 So they made him a supper there, and Martha served; and Lazarus was one of his neighbors. 3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly ointment of spikenard, and anointed the feet of Ihsou, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment. 4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, he that should betray him, 5 Why was not this ointment bought for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 6 He said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the silver, and used to carry away the things that were thrown away. 7 Then said Ihsou, Let her alone: for against the day of my burial she hath kept this. 8 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 9 A large crowd of Jews therefore learned that he was there, and they came, not for Ihsou’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because that on account of him many of the Jews were going over and believing in Ihsou. 12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Ihsou was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took branches of palm trees, and went out to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel. 14 And Ihsou, finding a colt, sat thereon; as it is written, 15 Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. 16 His disciples did not understand this at first, but when Ihsou was glorified, they remembered that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him. 17 The crowd therefore who had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. 18 For this reason the crowd believed in him, because they heard him and believed in the sign. 19 The Pharisees therefore said to themselves, “You are of no use to anyone; behold, the world has gone after him.” 20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: 21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Ihsou. 22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and Andrew and Philip tell Ihsou. 23 And Ihsou answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, my Father will honor him. 27 Now my soul is troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause have I come unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.29 The crowd therefore, who stood by and heard it, said that it had thundered; others said, An angel had spoken to him. 30 Ihsou answered and said, This voice came not for my sake, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself. 33 This he said, signifying by what death he should die. 34 The crowd answered him, “We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?” 35 Ihsou said to them, “Yet a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness does not overtake you. He who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light.” These things spake Ihsou, and departed, and hid himself from them. 37 But though he had done these signs before them, yet believed he not on him: 38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our hearing? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? 39 Therefore they could not believe, because Esaias said again, 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart: lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 41 These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. 42 Yet many of the chief priests and rulers believed in him: but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue. 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 44 Then Ihsou cried out, and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me: 45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears my words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He who rejects me and does not receive my words has one who judges him. The word that I have spoken will judge him at the last day. 49 For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things I speak therefore, just as the Father has told me, so I speak.that you may become sons of light. These things spake Ihsou, and departed, and hid himself from them. 37 But though he had done so many signs before them, they believed not on him: 38 That the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our hearing? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? 39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, 40 He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 41 These things said Isaiah when he saw his glory, and spake of him. 42 Nevertheless many of the chief priests and the rulers believed in him: but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue. 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. 44 Then Ihsou cried out and said, “He who believes in me believes not in me but in him who sent me; 45 and he who sees me sees him who sent me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears my words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He who rejects me and does not receive my words has one who judges him; the word that I have spoken, the same will judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things I speak therefore, just as the Father has told me, so I speak.that you may become sons of light. JOHN 13 1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Ihsou knew that his hour had come that he should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. 2 And during supper, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, 3 Ihsou, seeing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper, and laid aside his garments; and taking a towel, he girded himself. 5 Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe the towel with which he was tied. 6 Then he came to Simon Peter, and he said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?" 7 Ihsou answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not know now, but you will know later." 8 Peter said to him, "You shall never wash my feet." Ihsou answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me." 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Ihsou saith unto him, He that is washed needeth not only to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. 11 For he knew him that betrayed him: therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. 12 When therefore he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and was taken up again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done unto you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord; and you say well, for so I am. 14 If then I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, there is no servant greater than his master, nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. 18 I do not speak of you all; I know that I have chosen you; but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me. 19 I tell you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you may believe that I am he. 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives anyone I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. 21 When Ihsou had said this, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, saying, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” 22 The disciples looked at one another, wondering about whom he was talking. 23 Now one of his disciples, whom Ihsou loved, was leaning on Ihsou’ bosom. 24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, to ask who it was he was talking about. 25 Then he, leaning back on Ihsou’ breast, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Ihsou answered, It is he to whom I shall give the sop when I have dipped it. And when I have dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon. 27 Then Satan entered into him after the sop. Ihsou said to him, What you are about to do, do quickly. 28 But no one who heard him knew why he said this to him. 29 For some were saying, “It was Judas, the one who had the tongue, who had spoken the word, that Ihsou said to him, “Buy what we have need of for the feast; or give something to the poor, so that I may give something to them.” 30 So he took the bread,He went out immediately; and it was night. 31 When therefore he went out, Ihsou said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, and God glorifies him in himself, he will glorify him immediately. 33 Children, I am still with you a little while. Seek me, and as I said to the Jews, Where I am going, you cannot come, so I say to you. 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. 36 Simon Peter said to him, Lord, where are you going? Ihsou answered him, Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow me later. 37 Peter said to him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you. 38 Ihsou answered him, Will you lay down your life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Thou shalt not deny me thrice, until thou hast denied me thrice. JOHN 14 1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many: if it were not so, would I have told you? I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Ihsou saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye knew me, ye also knew my Father; and from the beginning ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Ihsou saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father: and how sayest thou, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; otherwise, believe me for the very works' sake. 12 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to my Father. 13 And whatever you ask in my name, he will do., I will do this so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. 15 If you love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, that he may be with you forever, 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless; I am coming to you. 19 Even now the world sees me no more, but you see me; because I live, you also will live. 20 At that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas Iscariot says to him, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world? 23 Ihsou answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and do with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. 25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, the Sacred Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither be afraid. 28 You heard that I said to you, I go away, and I come to you. If you loved me, you would rejoice that I said, I go to the Father; for my Father is greater than I. 29 But now I have told you before it happens, that when it does happen, you may believe. 30 I will not talk much with you anymore, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in me. 31 But so that the world may know that I love the Father, and just as the Father gave me commandment, so I do. Rise, let us go from here. JOHN 15 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit he purgeth, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Ye are already clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine: neither can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing. 6 If a man abides not in me, he is cast out as a branch, and is withered; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; and ye shall be my disciples. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, so that my joy may remain in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master does; but I have called you friends, because all things that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17 These things I command you, that you love one another. 18 If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, No servant is greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But all these things they will do to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, I had not had sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works which no man did, I had no sin: but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They sent me forth without gratuitousness. 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye shall testify, that ye have been with me from the beginning. JOHN 16 1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. 2 They shall cast you out of the synagogues: but the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall worship God. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4 But these things have I spoken unto you, that when the time cometh, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning, while I was with you. 5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me: 10 And of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more: 11 And of judgment, because the prince of this world standeth in judgment. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them: 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He will glorify me, because he will take it from me and will declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take it from me and declare it to you. 16 I was little, and you did not see me; and again I was little, and you will see me; because I am going to the Father. 17 Some of his disciples said to one another, What is this that he says to us, I was little, and you did not see me; and again I was little, and you will see me; and because I am going to the Father? 18 So they said, What is this that he says, little? We did not know what he was talking about. 19 Ihsou knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “You are asking one another about this, that I said, ‘I was small, and you did not see me; and again, a little, and you will see me.’ 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will not be sad, but your sadness will turn into joy. 21 A woman when she is in labor has sorrow because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 And now therefore ye have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. 23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Until now ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. 25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I will shew you plainly of the Father. 26 In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will ask the Father for you. 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have kissed me, and have believed that I came forth from God. 28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father. 29 His disciples say unto him,Behold, now you speak plainly, and speak no proverb. 30 Now we know that you know all things, and have no need that anyone should question you. By this we believe that you came out from God. 31 Ihsou answered them, Do you believe? 32 Behold, the hour is coming, and has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave me alone. And I am not alone, because the Father is with me. 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. JOHN 17 1 These things spake Ihsou, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that the Son also may glorify thee: 2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Ihsou Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 I have glorified you on the earth; I have finished the work which you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me with yourself with the glory which I had with you before the world was. 6 I have manifested your name to the men whom you gave me out of the world; they were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that all things whatsoever thou givest me are of thee: 8 For the words which thou gavest me I have given unto them: and they have received them, and have known truly that I came forth from thee: and they have believed that thou didst send me. 9 I ask concerning them: I ask not concerning the world, but concerning them which thou hast given me: for they are thine. 10 And all that I have is thine, and thine is mine; and my glory is in them. 11 And I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come unto thee. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name. Those whom you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost, except the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in them. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through your truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. 20 I do not ask for these alone, but also for those who will believe in me through their word. 21 That they may all be one; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. 22 And the glory which you gave me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as we are one. 23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that you sent me and loved them as you loved me. 24 Father, I want those you give me to be with me where I am, so that they may see my glory, which you have given me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these have known that you sent me. 26 And I have made your name known to them, and will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them. JOHN 18 1 When Ihsou had said this, he went out with his disciples across the brook Cedron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered. 2 And Judas, who betrayed him, also told them the place, for Ihsou often met there with his disciples. 3 Then Judas, having received a piece of silver, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Ihsou, knowing all that was coming upon him, went out and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” 5 They answered him, Ihsou of Nazareth. Ihsou saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 When therefore he had said unto them, I am he, they went away backward, and fell to the ground. 7 Then he asked them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Ihsou of Nazareth. 8 Ihsou answered, I told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: 9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me I lost none. 10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear: and the servant's name was Malchus. 11 Then said Ihsou unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which the Father hath given me, I shall not drink it. 12 Then the band, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took Ihsou, and delivered him up. 13 And led him away to Annas first: for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. 14 Now Caiaphas was he who had advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people. 15 And Simon Peter followed Ihsou, and so did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Ihsou into the palace of the high priest. 16 But Peter stood without at the door. Then went out the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, and spake to the porter, and brought in Peter. 17 Then saith the damsel that kept the porter unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He says, I am not. 18 Now the servants and the officers stood, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and were warming themselves: and Peter was with them, and warming himself. 19 Then the high priest asked Ihsou of his disciples, and of his doctrine. 20 Ihsou answered him, I spake openly to the world: I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I spoken nothing. 21 Why askest thou me? Ask those who do not hear, what I said to them; behold, they know what I said. 22 And when he had said these things, one of the servants stood by and struck Ihsou, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? 23 Ihsou answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me? 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. 25 Now Simon Peter was standing there, and warming himself. I said to him, Art thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, saying, “I am not.” 26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?” 27 Then Peter denied it again, and straightway he called out. 28 Then led they Ihsou from Caiaphas unto the praetorium: and it was early, and they themselves went not into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the passover. 29 Pilate therefore went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 30 They answered and said unto him, If this man were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him unto thee. 31 Pilate therefore said unto them, Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to receive any thing: 32 That the saying of Ihsou might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by what death he should die. 33 Pilate therefore entered again into the praetorium, and called Ihsou, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 34 Ihsou answered him, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell thee of me? 35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered you up to me; what have you done? 36 Ihsou answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now my kingdom is not from here. 37 Pilate therefore said to him, Are you a king? Ihsou answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have spoken into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice. 38 Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no fault in him. 39 But you have a custom that I release one for you at the Passover. Will you then that I release to you the King of the Jews?” 40 They cried out again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a robber. For this I was born, and for this I have spoken into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears my voice. 38 Pilate said to him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I find no fault in him. 39 But you have a custom that I should release one to you at the Passover: will you then that I release to you the King of the Jews? 40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas: now Barabbas was a robber. JOHN 19 1 Then Pilate therefore took Ihsou, and scourged him. 2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and put a purple robe on him, 3 and said, Hail, King of the Jews! And they beat him. 4 Pilate therefore went out again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him out unto you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. 5 So Ihsou came out, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. and he saith unto them, Behold the man. 6 When therefore the chief priests and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. 7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. 8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was afraid; 9 and entered again into the praetorium, and saith unto Ihsou, Whence art thou? But Ihsou gave him no answer. 10 Pilate therefore said to him, “Do you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have authority to crucify you, and authority to release you?” 11 Ihsou answered, “You would have no authority at all against me unless it had been given to you from above. Therefore he who betrays you has the greater sin.” 12 From this Pilate asked to release him. But the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.” 13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Ihsou out and sat down on the throne in a place called The Stone Pavement, but in Hebrew Gabbatha. 14 It was the preparation of the Passover, and it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your king!” 15 They cried out, “Away with you, away with you, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” 16 Then he handed him over to them to be crucified. Then they took Ihsou and led him away. 17 And bearing his cross, he went out to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Ihsou in the middle. 19 Pilate also wrote a title and put it on the cross: and it read, Ihsou THE NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 Many of the Jews therefore read this title, because the place where Ihsou was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Greek, and in Roman. 21 The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that he said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” 23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Ihsou, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and the tunic; and the tunic was woven from top to bottom. 24 Then they said to one another, “Let us not tear him, but let us find out whose he is.” That the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things to me.25 Now standing by the cross of Ihsou were his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Ihsou saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your son." 27 Then he said to the disciple, "Behold your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. 28 After this, knowing that all things were now finished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, he said, "I thirst." 29 Now a vessel was set full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it on hyssop, and held it to his mouth. 30 When Ihsou therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the spirit. 31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day: for that sabbath day was a high day, asked Pilate that the legs might be taken away, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who had been crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Ihsou and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And the one who had seen the devil testified, and his testimony is true, and he knew that he said what he said was true, so that you might believe. 36 For these things happened so that the scripture might be fulfilled, ‘Not a bone of him will be broken.’ 37 And again another scripture saith, They look on him whom they pierced. 38 And after these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Ihsou, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Ihsou: and Pilate gave him leave. So he came and took away the body of Ihsou. 39 And Nicodemus also came, which at the first came to Ihsou by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. 40 Then they took the body of Ihsou and laid it in tombs with the spices, as the Jewish custom is to bury. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 There therefore because of the Jews' preparation, because the tomb was nearby, they laid Ihsou. When I saw that he was already dead, his legs were not broken. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. 35 And the one who had the vision testified, and his testimony is true, and he knew that he said what he said was true, so that you might believe. 36 For these things happened that the scripture might be fulfilled, “Not a bone of him will be broken.” 37 And again another scripture says, “They will look to the one they pierced.” 38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Ihsou, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Ihsou. And Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away the body of Ihsou. 39 And Nicodemus also came, who at first came to Ihsou by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. 40 So they took the body of Ihsou and laid it in the tombs with the spices, as the Jews have the custom of burying. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever yet been laid. 42 There therefore laid they Ihsou because of the Jews' preparation, because the tomb was near at hand. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been laid. 42 There therefore laid they Ihsou because of the Jews' preparation, because the tomb was near at hand. JOHN 20 1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, to the tomb and saw the stone rolled away from the tomb. 2 She ran and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple, whom Ihsou loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3 Then Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. 4 And they both ran together: and the other disciple outran Peter, and came first to the tomb, 5 And turning aside, he saw the linen cloths lying, and went not in. 6 Then Simon Peter cometh, following him, and went into the tomb, and seeth the linen cloths lying, 7 And the napkin that was about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but unwrapped in a place. 8 Then the other disciple, who had come first to the tomb, also went in, and he saw and believed. 9 For they had not read the scripture, that they should see him rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples came again to themselves. 11 But Mary stood weeping outside at the tomb. As she wept, she stooped down to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Ihsou had been lying. 13 And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. 14 And when she had thus spoken, she turned herself back, and saw Ihsou alone, and knew not that it was Ihsou. 15 Ihsou saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? Supposing it to be the gardener, she saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 16 Ihsou saith unto her, Mary. She turning herself, saith unto him, Rabboni; which is, being interpreted, Teacher. 17 Ihsou saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene cometh, and telleth the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had said these things unto her. 19 That same day, being a sabbath, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, Ihsou came and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 20 And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Then Ihsou said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent me, even so send I you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. 24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Ihsou came. 25 So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the marks, and put my finger into the mark of the marks, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 And after eight days his disciples were again within, and Thomas with them. Ihsou comes, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and see my hands: and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Ihsou saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 Ihsou did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Ihsou is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. JOHN 21 1 After these things Ihsou shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias: and he shewed himself in this manner. 2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. 3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also will go with thee. And they went out, and straightway entered into the ship; and that night they caught nothing. 4 When morning had already come, Ihsou stood on the shore. The disciples did not yet know that it was Ihsou. 5 Ihsou therefore said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to haul it in because of the multitude of fish. 7 Then that disciple whom Ihsou loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he stripped off his coat (for he was naked) and threw himself into the sea. 8 The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits away, dragging the net with fish. 9 When they got out onto the land, they saw a charcoal fire there, and a basket lying there, and bread. 10 Ihsou said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and for all that the net was not torn. 12 Ihsou said to them, “Come, you are well.” But none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” knowing that it was the Lord. 13 Then Ihsou came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish in like manner. 14 This was now the third time that Ihsou appeared to his disciples after he had risen from the dead. 15 When they had gone out, Ihsou said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 17 He said to him a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Ihsou saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and shalt go where thou wouldest not. 19 This he said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said this, he saith unto him, Follow me. 20 Then Peter turning, saw the disciple whom Ihsou loved following; who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee? 21 When Peter saw this, he said to Ihsou, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Ihsou said to him, “If I want him to stay until I come, what is that to you? Follow me.” 23 Then this saying went out to the brothers that that disciple would not die. Ihsou did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I want him to stay until I come,”What is that to you? 24 This is the disciple who testifies about these things, and you wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. 25 There are also many other things that Ihsou did, which, if they were written every one, I could not even the world itself contain the books that would be written. Amen.
