Joel

1.1 The word of YHVH that came to Joel the son of Pethuel,

1.2 Hear this, you elders, and give ear, all you inhabitants of the land. Was this in your days, or in the days of your fathers?

1.3 Tell it to your children, and your children to their children, and your children to another generation.

1.4 The locust has eaten the rest of the crop, and the locust has eaten the rest of the cankerworm, and the cankerworm has eaten the rest of the cankerworm.

1.5 Wake up, you drunkards, and weep, and howl, all you wine-drinkers, for he has been cut off from your mouths.

1.6 For a nation has come up against my land, great and without number, like a lion and a serpent, to bring it to him.

1.7 A vine for a feast, and a fig for a feast, he has uncovered it, and thrown away the whitewash that has covered it.

1.8 I am like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

1.9 The offering and the sacrifice are cut off from the house of YHVH; the priests, the ministers of YHVH, mourn.

1.10 He has plundered the field, he has mourned the land, for he has plundered the grain, he has dried up the wine, he has afflicted the land.

1.11 The farmers are ashamed, the vineyards lament for the wheat and for the barley, because the harvest of the field is destroyed.

1.12 The vine is withered, and the fig tree languisheth, the pomegranate tree also, the palm tree and the apple tree; all the trees of the field are withered. for the joy of YHVH is withered away from men.

1.13 Gird yourselves and mourn, the priests, the ministers of the altar, lament, come to us in sackcloth, the ministers of my Alhym, for the offering and the sacrifice are withheld from the house of your Alhym.

1.14 Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders, all you inhabitants of the land, to the house of YHVH your Alhym, and cry out to YHVH.

1.15 Alas for the day, for the day of YHVH is near, and as a demon from my own will come.

1.16 Is not food cut off before our eyes from the house of our Alhym, joy and gladness?

1.17 Mules trampled under their hoes, the treasuries were destroyed by the threshing floor, because the grain was spoiled.

1.18 Why do the beasts groan? The herds of cattle mourn, because they have no pasture. The flocks of sheep also are in distress.

1.19 To you, O YHVH, I will call, for fire has devoured the pleasant places of the wilderness, and a flame has set on fire all the trees of the field.

1.20 Even the beasts of the field shall turn against you, for the streams of water are dried up, and fire hath devoured the pleasant places of the wilderness.

2.1 Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain. let all the inhabitants of the land be angry. for the day of YHVH cometh, for it is near at hand.

2.2 A day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and mist, as the morning spread upon the mountains a people great and mighty, such as have not been in the world, nor shall there be any after it, even to two generations.

2.3 Before him a fire devoured, and behind him a flame burned like the garden of heaven. The earth was a wilderness before him, and behind him a desert, and he had no escape.

2.4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, and they run like horsemen.

2.5 Like the sound of chariots on the tops of the mountains, dancing, like the sound of a flame of fire devouring stubble, like a mighty people prepared for war.

2.6 Before him shall the peoples tremble, all faces shall gather together in terror.

2.7 They will be like mighty men, like men of war they will scale a wall, and each one will walk in his own ways, and will not be troubled by their own desires.

2.8 And they shall not oppress one another. they shall go in their own way, and shall not fall for the sake of the one who sent them.

2.9 In the city they shall dwell on the wall, they shall desire the houses, they shall climb up through the windows, they shall come in like a thief.

2.10 The earth trembled before him, the heavens trembled, the sun and moon were darkened, and the stars gathered together and trembled.

2.11 And YHVH uttered his voice before his army. for his camp was very great. for he was mighty to perform his word. for the day of YHVH is great and very terrible. and who can abide?

2.12 And now also, saith YHVH, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.

2.13 And rend your heart and your garments, and return unto YHVH your Alhym. for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

2.14 Who knows whether he will return and be comforted, and leave behind him a blessing, an offering and a sacrifice to YHVH your Alhym?

2.15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify it, proclaim a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly.

2.16 Gather the people, the assembly, gather the elders, gather the children, and those who are sick of demons. The bridegroom has gone out of his chamber, and the bride from her veil.

2.17 Between the porch and the altar shall the priests, the ministers of YHVH, weep, and say, Spare thy people, O YHVH, and make not thine inheritance a reproach. wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their Alhym?

2.18 And YHVH was jealous for his land, and had compassion on his people.

2.19 And YHVH answered and said unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen.

2.20 And I will remove the northerner far from you, and will drive him into a land desolate and desolate, and his face shall be toward the former sea, and his overflowing shall be toward the latter sea, and he shall go up in his fire, and his stench shall ascend, because he hath done much.

2.21 Fear not, O earth, be glad and rejoice, for YHVH has done great things.

2.22 Do not be afraid of the wild animals, for they are the plants of the desert, for the tree bears its fruit, the fig tree and the vine give us strength.

2.23 And the children of Zion shall know and rejoice in YHVH your Alhym. for he hath given you the law of righteousness, and hath caused to fall upon you the rain of law and of affliction in the first place.

2.24 And the winepresses were filled with wine, and the winepresses were filled with wine, and the winepresses were filled with wine.

2.25 And I will repay you the years that the locust has eaten, the cankerworm, and the palmerworm, my great army, which I sent among you.

2.26 And you shall eat bread and be satisfied, and praise the name of YHVH your Alhym, who has dealt wondrously with you, and my people shall never be without food.

2.27 And ye shall know that I, even I, am YHVH your Alhym, am in the midst of Israel, and there is none other, neither shall my people be cut off for ever.

3.1 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

3.2 And also upon the bondmen and bondwomen in those days will I pour out my spirit.

3.3 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

3.4 The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and dreadful day of YHVH comes.

3.5 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of YHVH shall be delivered. for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as YHVH hath said, and in the remnant whom YHVH hath called.

4.1 For behold, in those days, and at that time, that I will restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,

4.2 And I will gather all nations, and bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and my inheritance Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and have divided up my land.

4.3 And the lot is cast upon my people, and they give the boy to a harlot, and the girl they sell for wine, and they drink.

4.4 And what are you to me, O Zidon, and all the coasts of Philistia? You repay me with your recompense, and if you repay me lightly, I will quickly repay you with your own head.

4.5 Which ye have taken of my silver and my gold, and of the precious things ye have brought into your temples.

4.6 And the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem ye have sold unto the children of Jonah, that ye might remove them far from their border.

4.7 Behold, I will bring them out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will restore your reward upon your own heads.

4.8 And I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and into the hand of the Sabeans, unto a nation far off. for YHVH hath spoken it.

4.9 Proclaim this among the nations. sanctify war, stir up the mighty men, let them draw near, let all the men of war come up.

4.10 Beat your spears into swords, and your clubs into spears. let the weak say, I am strong.

4.11 Do it, and all the nations shall come round about, and shall be gathered together. there YHVH hath laid the foundation of thy mighty ones.

4.12 Let the nations be awakened and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations.

4.13 Send in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe; come down, for the vintage is full; water the vineyards, for your wickedness is great.

4.14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of the ravines. for the day of YHVH is near in the valley of the ravines.

4.15 The sun and moon were darkened, and the stars gathered together.

4.16 And YHVH shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth shall shake. and YHVH shall be a refuge for his people, and a strength for the children of Israel.

4.17 And ye shall know that I am YHVH your Alhym, dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain. and Jerusalem shall be holy, and strangers shall no more pass through it.

4.18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down honey, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with water. and a fountain shall go out of the house of YHVH, and water the brook of Shimei.

4.19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom a wilderness, a desolation, because of the children of Judah, which have shed innocent blood in their land.

4.20 And Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.

4.21 And I have cleansed their blood, I have not cleansed it. and YHVH dwelleth in Zion.
