Jeremiah

1.1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin.

1.2 The word of YHVH came to him in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

1.3 And it came to pass in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eighteenth year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, until the captivity of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

1.4 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

1.5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you came forth out of the womb I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

1.6 And I said, Ah Lord GOD! Behold, I know not anything; for I am but a youth.

1.7 And YHVH said unto me, Say not, I am a lad. for thou shalt go to all that I send thee, and whatsoever I command thee, thou shalt speak.

1.8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says YHVH.

1.9 And YHVH put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. and YHVH said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

1.10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.

1.11 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, I see an almond tree.

1.12 And YHVH said unto me, Thou hast well seen that I am diligent in my word to perform it.

1.13 And the word of YHVH came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a swelling pot, and its face toward the north.

1.14 And YHVH said unto me, Out of the north shall evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

1.15 For, behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith YHVH; and they shall come, and set every man his throne at the gates of Jerusalem, and upon all the walls thereof round about, and upon all the cities of Judah.

1.16 And I pronounced judgments upon them for all their evil, because they had forsaken me, and burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

1.17 And thou shalt gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee in their sight, lest thou be ashamed before them.

1.18 And I, behold, I have made thee this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and walls of brass, against all the land, to the kings of Judah, to his servants, to his priests, and to the people of the land.

1.19 And they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee. for I am with thee, saith YHVH, to deliver thee.

2.1 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

2.2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith YHVH; I remember the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine iniquities, how thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.

2.3 Israel is holy to YHVH, the firstfruits of her increase. all that eat thereof shall be guilty. evil shall come upon them, saith YHVH.

2.4 Hear the word of YHVH, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.

2.5 Thus saith YHVH, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

2.6 And they said not, Where is YHVH that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, a land of a wilderness and a waterless land, a land of sedge and thornbushes, a land where no man passed through, neither did man dwell?

2.7 And I will bring you into the land of Carmel, to eat the fruit thereof, and the goodness thereof. and ye shall come and defile my land, and mine inheritance, and make it an abomination.

2.8 The priests said not, Where is YHVH? And they that handle the law know me not. and the wicked transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and after that they were not exalted.

2.9 Therefore I will contend with you, saith YHVH, and with your children's children will I contend.

2.10 For the islands of the Kettim passed by and saw, and the Kadesh sent and looked closely, and saw that it was so.

2.11 He who calls himself a god, and they are no gods, and his people who call themselves his glory, will not profit.

2.12 He called it heaven for this, and his hair was very long, saith YHVH.

2.13 For my people have committed two evils against me. they have forsaken the fountain of living waters, to hew them cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

2.14 If the servant Israel was born in a house, why was he despised?

2.15 The villages shall roar against him, they shall utter their voice, and his land shall be desolate. for his cities shall be burned without inhabitant.

2.16 The children of Neph and Tahpanhes will also be destroyed.

2.17 Is this not what you are doing to yourself? You have forsaken YHVH your God when he led you on the way.

2.18 And now why go you to the way of Egypt to drink the waters of the brook? and why go you to the way of Assyria to drink the waters of the river?

2.19 Your evil will rebuke you, and your punishments will rebuke you. Know and see that you have done evil and bitter things because you have forsaken YHVH your God, and I did not fear you, says YHVH God of hosts.

2.20 For I have broken your yoke from the beginning, I have broken your bonds, and you have said, I will not serve you; for on every high hill and under every green tree you have played the harlot.

2.21 And I planted you, but a true seed, and how have you become to me a foreign vine, a Syrian?

2.22 For though you wash yourself with water and multiply your covenant, yet your iniquity is marked before me, says YHVH GOD.

2.23 How can you say, "I have not defiled myself after my husband? I have not gone." See your way in the valley. Know what you have done, O virgin, that you have not strayed from the path of her ways.

2.24 A cow learns to speak by the effort of its soul. It breathes a pleasant wind. Who can turn it back? All who seek it will not be disappointed. They will find it in the new moon.

2.25 Withhold thy foot from being barefoot, and thy thigh from thirst. and say, I am in despair. for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

2.26 As a stolen sheep, when it is found, so the house of Israel is ashamed. they are their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets.

2.27 They say to a tree, Thou art my father, and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth. for they have turned unto me the back, and not the face. and in the time of their trouble they shall say, Arise, and save us.

2.28 And where is thy God, which thou hast made for thee? Let him arise, if he save thee in the time of thy trouble. for the number of thy cities was thy God, Judah.

2.29 Why do you all rebel against me? You have transgressed against me, says YHVH.

2.30 In vain have I smitten your children, they have not received instruction. your sword hath devoured your prophets, as a ravening lion.

2.31 O generation, you have seen the word of YHVH which speaketh unto Israel, saying, I am a land that divideth it. wherefore do they say, My people, we are gone down? and we will come no more unto thee.

2.32 The virgin hath forgotten her vows, and her people have forgotten me, days without number.

2.33 What good is your way to seek love? Therefore I have learned your ways even to the evils.

2.34 Also in your wings was found the blood of the souls of the poor and innocent. I did not find them in secret, but on all these

2.35 And you will say, "I am clean, but his anger has turned away from me." Behold, I will judge you according to your words. I have not sinned.

2.36 How hast thou greatly changed thy way? thou shalt be ashamed also of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

2.37 From this also you shall go forth with your hands on your head, for YHVH has rejected your trusts, and you shall not prosper in them.

3.1 Saying, If a man send away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, and she return unto him, shall not that land be a whore, and the whoredom of many wicked men be a harlot? and again unto me, saith YHVH.

3.2 Lift up your eyes upon the chiefs, and see where you have not gone astray in the ways; you have dwelt among them as an Arab in the wilderness, and you have flattered the land with your whoredoms and your wickedness.

3.3 And they would have avoided thousands and had not been beaten, and had not had the forehead of a harlot been yours, from the mouth of all the people.

3.4 From now on I call you my father, the champion of my youth.

3.5 Hinter forever, if it is preserved forever, behold, I have spoken, and you will do evil, and you will be able.

3.6 And YHVH said unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Thou hast seen what Israel did in the captivity, how she went upon every high mountain, and under every green tree, and played the harlot there.

3.7 And he said, After she has done all these things, she shall return to me, and shall not return, and shall see her sister Judah in her treachery.

3.8 And I saw that I had sent her to all the women who were brought up from the captivity of Israel, and I had given her the book of her circumcision, and she did not see her sister Judah in the wilderness, and she went and ate also.

3.9 And the staff of her whoredoms shall be, and she shall flatter the earth, and commit adultery with stone and wood.

3.10 And yet for all this her sister Judah has not returned to me with all her heart, but with deceit, says YHVH.

3.11 And YHVH said unto me, It is righteous for her soul to return from the captivity of Israel, and Judah from her treachery.

3.12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, O Israel, saith YHVH; I will not hide my face from you. for I am holy, saith YHVH; I will not forsake you for ever.

3.13 But know thou thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against YHVH thy God, and hast scattered thy ways unto strangers under every green tree, and hast not obeyed my voice, saith YHVH.

3.14 Return, you backsliding children, says YHVH, for I have taken you, and have taken you one of a city, and two of a family, and have brought you to Zion.

3.15 And I will give you shepherds, my dogs, and they shall shepherd you with knowledge and understanding.

3.16 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith YHVH, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of YHVH; neither shall it come to mind, neither shall it be remembered, neither shall it be visited, neither shall it be done any more.

3.17 At that time they will call Jerusalem the throne of YHVH, and all nations will seek it, to the name of YHVH, to Jerusalem; and they will no longer follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.

3.18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk against the house of Israel, and shall come together out of the land of the north unto the land which I gave to your fathers for an inheritance.

3.19 And I said, How shall I make thee of sons, and give thee a pleasant land, a heritage of the deer of the armies of the nations? And I said, My father, ye shall call me, and after me ye shall not return.

3.20 As a wicked woman has dealt treacherously, so have you dealt treacherously against me, O house of Israel, saith YHVH.

3.21 A voice was heard upon the lips of the children of Israel, weeping and supplications. for they had perverted their way, they had forgotten YHVH their God.

3.22 Return, you rebellious children, I will turn away from your rebellion. Behold, we are with you, for you are YHVH our God.

3.23 Surely the hills of many mountains lie; surely in YHVH our God is the salvation of Israel.

3.24 And the famine has devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth, their flocks, and their sons and daughters,

3.25 We lie down in our tents, and our shame covers us; for we have sinned against YHVH our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of YHVH our God.

4.1 If you will return, O Israel, saith YHVH, you shall return to me; if you will put away your abominations from before me, and be not moved.

4.2 And you shall swear, “As YHVH lives, in truth and in righteousness, in judgment and in righteousness, and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.”

4.3 For thus saith YHVH unto the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, Break up your loins, and sow not among thorns.

4.4 Turn to YHVH, and take away the foreskins of your hearts, O men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

4.5 Declare in Judah and Jerusalem, proclaim and say, and blow the trumpet in the land, cry aloud, and say, Gather yourselves together, and prophesy against the fortified cities.

4.6 Take courage, O Zion, stand not still, for I will bring evil from the north, and great destruction.

4.7 A lion has come up from his den, and the destroyer of nations has gone forth, he has gone forth from his place to destroy your land, for your cities will be cold without inhabitant.

4.8 For this they girded themselves with sackcloth, and mourned, and lamented. for the fierce anger of YHVH was not turned away from him.

4.9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith YHVH, that the heart of the king, and the heart of the princes, shall perish; and the priests shall sigh, and the prophets shall be astonished.

4.10 And I said, Ah, Lord GOD! Surely thou hast spoken against this people and against Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; and the sword shall reach unto the soul.

4.11 At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A fresh wind blows in the wilderness, The way of the daughter of my people, Do not sow, nor weed.

4.12 The spirit of these things will come upon me, and I will speak the same judgments.

4.13 Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots are as silver as eagles. his horses are lighter than eagles. woe unto us, for we have been robbed!

4.14 Wash the pastures of your heart, O Jerusalem, that you may be saved. How long will the thoughts of your wickedness remain within you?

4.15 For a voice declares from Dan, proclaiming violence from Mount Ephraim.

4.16 Make known to the nations, Behold, they have made Jerusalem known, that they shall come from a far country, and they shall utter their voice against the cities of Judah.

4.17 When I rebelled, my breasts were round about her, because she rebelled against me, saith YHVH.

4.18 Your ways and your doings have done this to you. This is your evil, for it is bitter because it has touched your heart.

4.19 My bowels are full of the walls of my heart; my heart is not quiet; for the sound of a trumpet has been heard by my soul, the alarm of war.

4.20 Break upon break is called, for the whole land is plundered; suddenly my tents are plundered; in a moment I will cry out.

4.21 How long shall I see a miracle, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

4.22 For woe is my people, they have not known me. they are foolish children, and they are not wise. they are wise, they know not to do evil or to do good.

4.23 I saw the earth, and behold, it was desolate and empty; and to the heavens, and there was no light.

4.24 I saw the mountains, and behold, a noise, and all the hills were shaken.

4.25 I looked, and behold, there was no man, and all the birds of the air had fled.

4.26 I looked, and, behold, Carmel was desolate, and all the cities thereof were broken down before YHVH, because of the fierceness of his anger.

4.27 For thus saith YHVH; The whole land shall be desolate, and I will not make a full end.

4.28 For this the earth shall mourn, and the heavens above shall be sad. for I have spoken, I have purposed, and will not be comforted, neither will I turn back from it.

4.29 At the sound of the horseman and the archer, the whole city fled; they came in droves and went up with their hands. The whole city was deserted, and no one lived in it.

4.30 And I, David, what will you do? If you wear a second garment, if you wear a golden garment, if you tear your eyes in vain, you will be happy, they will be disgusted with you, they will seek your soul.

4.31 For I have heard the voice of a woman, anguish like a woman lamenting. The voice of the daughter of Zion, she lamenteth, she spreadeth her hands. Woe is me! for my soul is weary of the slaughter.

5.1 Run ye through the streets of Jerusalem, and see, and know, and seek in the streets thereof, if ye can find any man, if there be any that worketh righteousness, that seeketh faith, and I will pardon her.

5.2 And as YHVH liveth, they shall swear falsely unto you,

5.3 O LORD, are not your eyes upon faith? You have gathered them together, and they have not been sick. You have taken counsel from us, you have strengthened their faces from a rock, from us they have not turned back.

5.4 And I said, But they are poor, they are deceived, because they know not the way of YHVH, nor the judgment of their God.

5.5 I will go to the great men, and speak to them. for they know the way of YHVH, the judgment of their God. but they have all broken the law, and have broken the commandments.

5.6 Therefore, behold, a lion out of the forest, a wolf of the steppe, shall rob them; a leopard shall prey upon their cities. every one that goeth forth out of the midst thereof shall be devoured. for their transgressions are multiplied, even their captivity.

5.7 Therefore will I forgive thee, thy children that have forsaken me, and have sworn by no god. and I will make them swear, and they shall commit adultery, and shall multiply in the house of harlots.

5.8 The horses that feed and roost, each one to his neighbor's wife, will run away.

5.9 For these things will I not visit, saith YHVH. and if upon such a nation as this shall my soul not be avenged?

5.10 Go up against her services, and destroy her, and do not destroy her. remove her waste places. for they are not of YHVH.

5.11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt treacherously against me, saith YHVH.

5.12 They have denied YHVH, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil, nor sword, nor famine, come upon us, except we see.

5.13 And the prophets shall be for a spirit, and the word shall not be in them. so shall it be done unto them.

5.14 Therefore thus saith YHVH God of hosts; Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and ye shall devour them.

5.15 Behold, I will bring a nation upon you from far, house of Israel, saith YHVH. it is a nation that is strong, a nation that was not from before. it is a nation whose language thou shalt not know, neither shall thou understand what he speak.

5.16 His grave is like an open grave, all of them mighty men.

5.17 And they shall eat your harvest and your bread. your sons and your daughters shall eat them. your flocks and your herds shall eat them. your vines and your fig trees shall eat them. and the sword shall destroy the cities of your enemies, in whom you trust.

5.18 Even in these days, says YHVH, I will not make a complete end of you.

5.19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore hath YHVH our God done all these things unto us? and ye shall say unto them, As ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

5.20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

5.21 Hear this, O foolish people, and without heart; they have eyes that see not, and ears that hear not.

5.22 Ye shall not fear YHVH, saith YHVH. if ye will not hearken unto me, which I have set for the sea a bound, an everlasting statute, that it may not pass it. and though they toss and turn, yet cannot; though the waves thereof toss and turn, yet cannot pass it.

5.23 And this people had a rebellious and stubborn heart, and they went astray.

5.24 And they said not in their hearts, Let us now fear YHVH our God, who giveth rain, and blasting, and the threshingfloor in his season, seven days of harvest, and preserveth for us.

5.25 Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have withheld good from you.

5.26 For among my people are found wicked men, as if they were snares set up to destroy men, to catch them.

5.27 As a cage full of fowl, so are their houses full of deceit. therefore they are increased and waxed rich.

5.28 They have done evil things, and have transgressed; they have not judged the cause of the fatherless, and have prospered; and they have not judged the cause of the needy.

5.29 I will not punish these people, says YHVH, unless my soul is avenged on such a nation.

5.30 Her name and her shame became in the land

5.31 The prophets have prophesied falsely, and the priests have gone down by their hands. and my people have loved so; and what will ye do for the latter end thereof?

6.1 The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of Jerusalem, and in Tekoa blew the trumpet, and upon the house of the vineyard they carried a trumpet. for evil was seen out of the north, and great destruction.

6.2 I am like the daughter of Zion, delightful and delightful.

6.3 Shepherds with their flocks will come to it, they will pitch their tents there, each one will put his hand around his flock.

6.4 Prepare war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe to us, for the day is gone, for the shadows of the evening are drawn away.

6.5 Arise, and go up in the night, and her palaces shall be destroyed.

6.6 For thus saith YHVH of hosts; They have taken counsel, and have cast a heap of stones upon Jerusalem; the city is desolate, and the oppressor is in the midst thereof.

6.7 As a wall is a pit from its days, so is the cold, its fury and its evil, and a demon will hear in it, always sick and plagued.

6.8 Take me up, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee, lest I make thee a desolation, a land that is not inhabited.

6.9 Thus saith YHVH of hosts; They shall pluck up the remnant of Israel as a vine. turn thine hand as a sheaf upon the baskets.

6.10 To whom shall I speak and testify, and they shall hear? behold, their ears are dull, and they cannot hearken. behold, the word of YHVH is to them a reproach; they will not desire it.

6.11 And I am filled with the wrath of YHVH, I am weary, I have poured out the vessel upon the child without, and upon the secret places of the young men together. for both man and woman shall take hold of the old man, and of the full age of days.

6.12 And their houses shall be turned to others, fields and women together. for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith YHVH.

6.13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them, every one is given to covetousness. and from the prophet even unto the priest, every one dealeth falsely.

6.14 And they healed the brokenness of my people lightly, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.

6.15 They are ashamed, for they have committed abomination; they are also ashamed, they are not ashamed; the vessels also know not. therefore they shall fall among the fallen; in the time of their visitation they shall stumble, saith YHVH.

6.16 Thus saith YHVH, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask the wayfarers of the world, Where is this good way? and walk therein, and find rest for your souls. and they say, We will not walk therein.

6.17 And I will set up a watch over you. they shall hear the sound of the trumpet, and shall say, We will not hear.

6.18 Therefore the nations shall hear, and the congregation shall know what is in them.

6.19 Hear, O land. behold, I will bring evil upon this people, the fruit of their thoughts. because they have not hearkened unto my words, and unto my law, and have abhorred it.

6.20 Why should I have incense, when you come and buy the best from a far country? Your offerings are not pleasing to me, and your sacrifices are not a guarantee to me.

6.21 Therefore thus saith YHVH; Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks upon this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall stumble over them. the neighbor and his neighbor shall perish.

6.22 Thus saith YHVH, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be brought forth from the sides of the earth.

6.23 They shall lay hold on bow and spear, they are cruel, they shall not spare; their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, set in array as a man for battle against thee, O daughter of Zion.

6.24 We have heard his voice, our hands have grown weak; trouble has seized us, strength like a woman in labor.

6.25 Do not go out into the field, nor walk by the way, for the sword of the enemy is on every side.

6.26 O daughter of my people, gird yourself with sackcloth and wallow in ashes. Make a lamentation for yourself alone, for suddenly the plunderer will come upon us.

6.27 I have made you a stronghold among my people, and you have known and considered their ways.

6.28 They are all slanderers, rebellious, walking in a slanderous way, bronze and iron, all of them corrupting.

6.29 A snore from a pipe from their wife, Ophrah, in vain, a pure bond is made, and the wicked are not separated.

6.30 They called them "Money is tired of them" because YHVH was tired of them.

7.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

7.2 Stand in the gate of the house of YHVH, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of YHVH, all Judah that enter in at these gates to worship YHVH.

7.3 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel. Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

7.4 Trust not in lying words, saying, The temple of YHVH, the temple of YHVH, the temple of YHVH, these are they.

7.5 For if it be well, then amend your ways, and your doings, if it be well, then execute judgment between every man and his neighbour.

7.6 You shall not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, and you shall not shed innocent blood in this place, and you shall not go after other gods to your own hurt.

7.7 And I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers for ever and ever.

7.8 Behold, you trust in false words to no avail.

7.9 The thief, the murderer, the adulterer, the swearer of falsehood, the worshipper of Baal, and the follower of other gods whom you have not known.

7.10 And ye came and stood before me in this house, which is called by my name, and said, We have delivered ourselves, that ye might do all these abominations.

7.11 This house, which is called by my name, was a cave of slanderers in your sight. behold, I also have seen it, saith YHVH.

7.12 But go now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did unto it for the evil of my people Israel.

7.13 And now, because you have done all these things, says YHVH, I will speak to you, rising early and speaking, but you will not listen; and I will call to you, but you will not answer.

7.14 And I will do to the house which is called by my name, in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to the house of YHVH.

7.15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, the whole seed of Ephraim.

7.16 And you, do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not implore me, for I will not hear you.

7.17 Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the midst of Jerusalem?

7.18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and pour out offerings to other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

7.19 Is it because they are angry? says YHVH. Are they not to their shame?

7.20 Therefore thus saith YHVH GOD; Behold, my wrath and my anger shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

7.21 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Your burnt offerings are multiplied upon your sacrifices, and ye shall eat flesh.

7.22 For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices.

7.23 For this thing I commanded them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people, and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

7.24 And they did not listen, nor incline their ear, but walked in the counsels of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

7.25 From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt even to this day, I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them.

7.26 But if they did not listen to me and did not incline their ear, but hardened their neck, they did worse than their fathers.

7.27 And thou shalt speak all these words unto them, but they will not hearken unto thee. and thou shalt call unto them, but they will not answer.

7.28 And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hearkened not unto the voice of YHVH their God, nor received instruction. the faith is lost, and it is cut off from their mouth.

7.29 Cut off the slain, and cast them away, and take up a lamentation upon the heads of the chief priests. for YHVH abhorreth, and forsaketh the generation of his transgression.

7.30 For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith YHVH, and have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

7.31 And they built the high places of Tepheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I commanded not, neither came it into my heart.

7.32 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that it shall no more be said, Taphthaph, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter. and the grave of Taphthaph shall be no more.

7.33 And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the air, and for the beasts of the earth; and there shall be none to make them afraid.

7.34 And I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the midst of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. for the land shall be desolate.

8.1 At that time YHVH spoke, and they brought out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of its officials, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves.

8.2 And the ashes of the sun, and of the moon, and of all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and which they have walked after, and which they have sought after, and which they have worshipped, shall not be gathered up, nor shall they be buried with blood upon the face of the earth.

8.3 And I will choose death rather than life for all the remnant that remain of this evil family, in all the places that remain, where I have driven them, says YHVH of hosts.

8.4 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH; They shall fall, and not rise again. if he return, and if he return not, they shall fall.

8.5 Why has this people turned away from Jerusalem, from the everlasting captivity? They have kept the deceit of Manoah to return.

8.6 I listened and heard, but they spoke thus. no one comforted his enemy, saying, "What have I done? They returned in their haste, like a galloping horse in the battle."

8.7 Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed times, and the stork, the horse, and the crane keep the appointed times, but my people do not know the judgment of YHVH.

8.8 How can you say, "We are wise, and the law of YHVH is with us?" Indeed, behold, the pen of falsehood has made books for lies.

8.9 The wise are ashamed, they are afraid, and are taken. behold, they are ashamed at the word of YHVH, and what wisdom is in them?

8.10 Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to inherit them. for from the least even unto the greatest every one dealeth greedily, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

8.11 And they have laid waste the brokenness of the daughter of my people upon a light, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.

8.12 They are ashamed, for they have committed abomination; they are not ashamed, neither do they know it. Therefore they shall fall among the fallen, in the time of their visitation they shall stumble, saith YHVH.

8.13 I will surely gather them, saith YHVH. there are no grapes on the vine, neither are there figs on the fig tree. and the tree shall bear fruit, and I will give them to pass over.

8.14 Why do we sit here? Let us gather ourselves together, and let us go into the fortified cities, and there we will see that YHVH our God has given us blood, and we will drink water from the head, because we have sinned against YHVH.

8.15 Hope for peace, but there is no good in the time of slacking, and behold, it is at hand.

8.16 From Dan the snorting of his horses is heard, at the sound of the shouts of his horsemen, the whole land is in commotion. They come and devour the land and the city is full, and they dwell in it.

8.17 For, behold, I will send among you fiery serpents, which shall not be venomous, and they shall bite you, saith YHVH.

8.18 I have poured out my sorrow upon me; my heart is troubled.

8.19 Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a far country. YHVH is not in Zion, and there is no queen in her. why have they provoked me to anger with their idols, with the vanities of a stranger?

8.20 The summer harvest is past, and we have not been saved.

8.21 For the breach of the daughter of my people I have broken my potter, where thou hast held me.

8.22 The oppressor is not in Gilead, nor is there any healer there. for why is the daughter of my people not brought up?

8.23 Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

9.1 Who will give me a place to stay in the wilderness? That I may leave my people and go from them, for they are all adulterers, a gathering of garments?

9.2 And they have bent their tongues, they have bent their bows in lies, and not in faith; they have prevailed in the land. for they have gone from pasture to pasture, and they have not known me, saith YHVH.

9.3 Take heed every one of his neighbor, and trust not in any brother. for every brother is a follower of Jacob, and every wicked man walketh as a slanderer.

9.4 And they shall deceive one another, and shall not speak the truth; they shall teach their tongues to speak lies, and they shall be weary of iniquity.

9.5 You have lived in deceit, and have not known me, says YHVH.

9.6 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts; Behold, I will refine them, and try them. for what shall I do for the daughter of my people?

9.7 An arrow that pierces their tongue is deceitful. He speaks peace to his neighbor with his mouth, and in his heart he lays his ambush.

9.8 I will not punish these people, says YHVH, unless my soul is avenged on such a nation.

9.9 For the mountains I will take up a weeping and wailing, and for the plains of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, and no one passes by, and no voice is heard, neither cattle nor fowl of the air, nor beasts, they wander about.

9.10 And I will make Jerusalem a den of jackals, and the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

9.11 Who is the wise man, that he may understand this? and to whom the mouth of YHVH hath spoken, and hath declared, Wherefore is the land destroyed? It is burned up like a wilderness, without a passerby?

9.12 And YHVH said, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, nor walked therein.

9.13 And they walked after the imaginations of their own hearts, and after the Baalim which their fathers taught.

9.14 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed this people with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

9.15 And they shall be scattered among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers knew. and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.

9.16 Thus saith YHVH of hosts; Consider, and call for the lamentations, and they shall come; and send for the wise, and they shall come.

9.17 And it shall come to pass, and it shall come upon us, and our eyes shall run down with tears, and our eyelids shall run down with water.

9.18 For a voice is heard out of Zion, how we have been utterly spoiled, how we have forsaken the land, because our neighbours have cast us off.

9.19 For when women hear the word of YHVH, and your ears receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters, then shall it be, and a woman her neighbor shall lament.

9.20 For death has come up through our windows, it has entered our palaces to cut down the children outside the open spaces.

9.21 Thus saith YHVH; And the carcase of man shall fall as blood upon the face of the field, and as dung after the threshingfloor, and none shall gather it.

9.22 Thus saith YHVH, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, neither let the rich man glory in his riches.

9.23 But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am YHVH, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says YHVH.

9.24 Behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will punish all the foreskins of the foreskin.

9.25 On Egypt, and on Judah, and on Edom, and on the children of Ammon, and on Moab, and on all that have their hair cut off, that dwell in the wilderness. for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.

10.1 Hear the word which YHVH hath spoken against you, O house of Israel.

10.2 Thus saith YHVH, Learn not the way of the heathen, nor observe the signs of heaven. for the heathen shall be cut off from them.

10.3 For the laws of the peoples are vanity. for a tree is cut down out of the forest, the work of the hands of the carpenter in the field.

10.4 They will adorn it with silver and gold, they will strengthen it with nails and hammers, but it will not yield.

10.5 They are like a hard palm tree, and will not speak, nor will they be married, for they will not walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they will not do evil, nor will they do good.

10.6 Who is like you, O LORD? You are great, and your name is great in might.

10.7 Who will not fear you, the king of the nations, because you are coming? For among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms there is none like you.

10.8 And suddenly they will burn and destroy the teaching of vain things, which is a tree.

10.9 Silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold is weighed out of the hand of the goldsmith, blue and purple for perfume, the work of the skilled, all of them.

10.10 And YHVH God is the true God, the living God, and the everlasting King. at his rebuke the earth trembleth, and the nations cannot stand his wrath.

10.11 And they shall say unto YHVH, Heaven and earth are enough, they shall not serve him. they shall perish from the earth, and from the heavens.

10.12 He made the earth by his power, he established the world by his wisdom and understanding, he stretched out the heavens.

10.13 At the voice of YHVH, you will pour out many waters in the heavens, and lightnings will rise from the ends of the earth to make rain, and a wind will come out of its storehouses.

10.14 Every man is ignorant of knowledge, every goldsmith is ashamed of his idol, for their work is falsehood, and there is no spirit in them.

10.15 They are vanity, a work of illusion; in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

10.16 The portion of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. YHVH of hosts is his name.

10.17 Gather me from the land of your humility, I have sat under siege.

10.18 For thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will smite the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will bring trouble upon them, that they may find

10.19 Woe to me for the broken pieces of my inheritance, and I said, "This is sick, and I will bear it."

10.20 My tent is plundered, and all my cords are broken. My sons are gone out, and they are no more. I no longer pitch my tent or set up my curtains.

10.21 For the wicked are ignorant, and have not sought YHVH. therefore they have not understood, and all their wickedness is spread abroad.

10.22 A rumor is coming, and a great commotion from the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place for jackals.

10.23 I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself. it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

10.24 YHVH rebuke me only in judgment to your face, lest you despise me.

10.25 Pour out your wrath on the nations that have not known you, and on the families that have not called on your name; for they have devoured Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and Noah is his name.

11.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

11.2 Hear the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

11.3 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Cursed be the man that heareth not the words of this covenant.

11.4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them according to all that I command you. and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

11.5 That I may establish the oath which I sware unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. And I answered and said, Amen, YHVH.

11.6 And YHVH said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

11.7 For I testified unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and testifying, saying, Obey my voice.

11.8 But they did not listen or incline their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of his evil heart. And I brought upon them all the words of this covenant which I commanded them to do; but they did not do them.

11.9 And YHVH said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

11.10 They have returned to the iniquity of their first fathers, who refused to hear my words, and have gone after other gods to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

11.11 Therefore thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape. and they shall cry unto me, but I will not hear them.

11.12 Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem went and cried to the God to whom they offered incense, but he did not save them in the time of their trouble.

11.13 For the number of your cities was your god, O Judah, and the number of the north of Jerusalem, you have built altars, you have set up altars to burn incense to Baal.

11.14 And you, do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, for I will not hear when they cry to me because of their trouble.

11.15 What is my friend doing in my house? Many have plotted against me, and holy meat will pass over you, for I have done you harm. Then you will be exalted.

11.16 A green olive tree, beautiful and fruitful, O LORD, call upon thy name with the sound of a great tumult. kindle a fire upon it, and devour its branches.

11.17 And YHVH of hosts, which planted thee, hath spoken evil against thee, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, to burn incense unto Baal.

11.18 And YHVH made me know, and I knew; then he showed me their doings.

11.19 And I am like a lamb brought to the slaughter, and I knew not that thoughts were formed against me. a tree is destroyed by its fruit, and we are cut off from the land of the living, and our name is remembered no more.

11.20 And YHVH of hosts judges righteously, testing the reins and the heart. I will see your vengeance on them, for to you I have revealed my cause.

11.21 Therefore thus says YHVH concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, You shall not prophesy in the name of YHVH, lest you die by our hand.

11.22 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts; Behold, I will punish them. their young men shall die by the sword, their sons, and their daughters shall die by famine.

11.23 And there shall be no remnant for them. for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, the year of their visitation.

12.1 Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee. but I will speak judgments unto thee. why doth the way of the wicked prosper? all his garments are filthy.

12.2 You have planted it, and its root will go, and it will bear fruit. It is near in their mouth, but far from their kidneys.

12.3 But you, O LORD, know me; see me and test my heart with you. I am brought up like sheep for the slaughter, and I am prepared for the day of slaughter.

12.4 How long will the land mourn, and the grass of all the field wither? The evil of my dwelling in it has devoured the beasts and the birds, because they said, "He will not see our end."

12.5 For you have sought the foot, and it has filled you up. and how can you compete with the horses? and you trust in a land of peace. and how can you do with the pride of the Jordan?

12.6 For even your brothers and your father's house, they have dealt treacherously with you; they have also called you after thee. believe them not, though they speak well of you.

12.7 I have forsaken my house, I have forsaken my inheritance, I have given the love of my soul to the hand of YHVH.

12.8 My portion was like a lion in the forest, she roared at me, therefore I hated her.

12.9 The eagle is my inheritance, the eagle is my possession, go and gather all the beasts of the field, the beasts to be devoured.

12.10 Many thieves have cut down my vineyard, they have destroyed my portion, they have given my pleasant portion into a wilderness.

12.11 She is laid waste, she mourns for me, she is desolate, the whole land is desolate, because no one takes her to heart.

12.12 The spoilers are come upon all the chiefs in the wilderness. for the sword of YHVH devoureth from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth. there is no peace to any flesh.

12.13 You have sown wheat and reaped barley, but it has not grown, and your harvest has been wasted because of the fierce anger of YHVH.

12.14 Thus saith YHVH concerning all my evil neighbors, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit. Behold, I will pluck them up out of their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah out of their midst.

12.15 And it shall come to pass, after that I have scattered them, that I will return, and have mercy upon them, and will cause them to return every man to his inheritance, and every man to his land.

12.16 And it shall come to pass, if they learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, YHVH liveth, as they taught my people to swear by Baal, and they are built in the midst of my people.

12.17 And if they will not hear, then I will cut off that nation, and it shall be cut off, and perish, saith YHVH.

13.1 Thus saith YHVH unto me, Go and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

13.2 And I bought the girdle according to the word of YHVH, and girded it upon my loins.

13.3 And the word of YHVH came unto me the second time, saying,

13.4 Take the belt that you bought, which is on your waist, and go, bury it there in a cleft of the rock.

13.5 And I went and hid it in Euphrates, as YHVH commanded me.

13.6 And it came to pass after many days, that YHVH said unto me, Arise, go, Pharaoh, and take from thence the field of which I commanded thee to hide it.

13.7 And I went and dug, and took the field from the place where she had hidden it, and behold, the field was ruined, it was not fit for anything.

13.8 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

13.9 Thus saith YHVH; Thus will I destroy the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

13.10 This evil people, who refuse to listen to the words of those who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts, and go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, will be like this land that will not prosper in any way.

13.11 For as the girdle cleaveth unto my loins, so have I caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cleave unto me, saith YHVH; to be unto me a people, and a name, and a praise, and a glory. but they hearkened not.

13.12 And thou shalt say unto them this word, Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine. and they shall say unto thee, Knowest thou not, we know not, that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

13.13 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, and the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with a curse.

13.14 And they shall dash every man against his brother, the fathers and the sons together, saith YHVH. I will not spare, nor have pity, nor have compassion, to destroy them.

13.15 Hearken and listen, do not be arrogant, for YHVH has spoken.

13.16 Give glory to YHVH your God before it is dark, and before your feet stumble on the mountains of smoke, and your light shines on you, and your place is turned into a mist for images.

13.17 But if you do not hear in secret, my soul will weep for my body, and my eyes will weep with tears, because the flock of YHVH has been taken captive.

13.18 Say to the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, for the crown of your glory has come down from your heads.

13.19 The cities of the Negev are closed and there is no opening, the exile of Judah is complete, the exile of peace.

13.20 Lift up your eyes and see those who come from the north. Where is the flock that gave you your glorious flock?

13.21 What will you say, if he will command you, and you have taught them against you, thousands for a head? Shall he not hold you with cords, as a woman of Leda?

13.22 And if thou say in thine heart, Why have I called thee thus? For thy iniquity is discovered, thy heel is broken in pieces.

13.23 If the black man's skin changes, and the leopard his companions, you too can do good instead of evil.

13.24 And I will scatter them as stubble that passes before the desert wind.

13.25 This is your lot, the portion of your measures from me, says YHVH, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.

13.26 And I also have uncovered your nakedness to your face, and your shame has been seen.

13.27 Your adulteries and your whoredoms, your whoredoms on the hills in the field, I have seen your thorns. Woe to you, Jerusalem! You will not be cleansed after me, how long?

14.1 The word of YHVH that came to Jeremiah concerning the plagues.

14.2 Judah mourns, and its gates are languishing; their gloom is upon the earth, and the mourning of Jerusalem is gone up.

14.3 And their fathers sent forth their young ones to the water, they came on their backs, they found no water, and their vessels were empty, they were ashamed, and they covered their heads.

14.4 For the land was parched, because there was no rain in the land; the farmers covered their heads.

14.5 For even Elath in the field brought forth fruit, and was forsaken, because there was no grass.

14.6 And the wild ones stood on the slopes, breathing the wind of the fields, their eyes were blinded because there was no grass.

14.7 If our iniquities be visited upon us, O LORD, do it for thy name's sake. for our backslidings are many; our sins are against thee.

14.8 Israel hopes for its Savior in the time of trouble. Why should you be like a stranger in the land, and like a sojourner who turns aside to spend the night?

14.9 Why should you be like a man astonished, like a mighty man who cannot save? But you, O LORD, are among us, and your name is called upon us; do not forsake us.

14.10 Thus saith YHVH unto this people; Thus they loved to walk, their feet were not darkened, and YHVH desired them not. now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sin.

14.11 And YHVH said unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

14.12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and oblation, I will not accept them. for I will consume them by the sword, and by famine, and by pestilence.

14.13 And I said, Ah Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine. for I will give you true peace in this place.

14.14 And YHVH said unto me, The prophets prophesy falsely; I sent them not, neither commanded them, neither spake I unto them. they prophesy unto you a false vision, and divination, and divination, and the deceit of their own heart.

14.15 Therefore thus saith YHVH concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, There shall be sword and famine in this land. by sword and famine shall those prophets perish.

14.16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out at midnight from Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword, and there shall be no burial for them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters. and I will pour out their evil upon them.

14.17 And thou shalt say unto them this thing, Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day. and consider not. for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, a very grievous smiting.

14.18 If I go out into the field, behold, the sword shall slay me; or if I enter into the city, behold, there shall be famine. for both prophet and priest have dealt treacherously against the land, and have not known it.

14.19 You have destroyed Judah, but your soul is grieved in Zion. Why have we been smitten, and there is no healing for us? You have hoped for peace, and there is no good, and for a time of healing, and behold, it is in its time.

14.20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against you.

14.21 For your name's sake do not disgrace the throne of your glory; remember, do not break your covenant with us.

14.22 Are there any vain things among the nations, because of rain? And though the heavens give their ten thousand, art not thou YHVH our God? and we wait for thee; for thou hast done all these things?

15.1 And YHVH said unto me, Though Moses and Samuel shall stand before me, my soul cannot go toward this people. send them away from my presence. And they shall go out.

15.2 And it shall come to pass, when they shall say unto thee, Whither shall we go out? that thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for famine, to famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity.

15.3 And I will appoint over them four families, saith YHVH, the sword to slay, and the dogs to devour, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.

15.4 And they shall be a terror unto all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

15.5 For who will have pity on you, O Jerusalem? and who will go forth to beg for you? and who will turn aside to repay you?

15.6 You have forsaken me, says YHVH; go backward, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and destroy you; I have grown weary of comfort.

15.7 And I will scatter them in the east, in the gates of the land that I have destroyed; I will destroy my people from their ways, unless they return.

15.8 I have brought upon them a widow for a time, a young man who robbed at noonday; I have suddenly brought upon her a city and a panic.

15.9 Woe to the seven-year-old, she hath given up her soul. Moses is come for their day, shame and desolation. and the remnant of them will I give to the sword before their enemies, saith YHVH.

15.10 Woe to me, my mother, for you have borne me a man of strife, and a man of judgment to all the earth. I have not given birth to a wife, nor have I given birth to a wife who curses me.

15.11 YHVH said, "If you do not serve me for good, then I will not strike you in a time of trouble and in a time of distress,

15.12 The fire of iron, iron from the north, and copper from the south,

15.13 I will give your army and your treasures to plunder without price, and with all your sins and all your borders.

15.14 And I will make thine enemies pass through the land which thou knewest not. but a fire is kindled in my nostrils, which shall burn against thee.

15.15 You know, O LORD; remember me and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors. O God, take me away, for I am a reproach to you.

15.16 Your words were found, and I ate them; and your words became to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart, for your name is called upon me, O LORD God of hosts.

15.17 I did not sit in secret, nor did I rejoice because of your hand; I sat alone, because you filled me with wrath.

15.18 Why should my pain be everlasting, and my wound mortal? For there is no cure. Would it be to me like a deceitful, unfaithful water?

15.19 Therefore thus saith YHVH. If thou return, and I bring thee again, thou shalt stand before me. and if thou bring forth a precious thing, as thou art, they shall dwell with thee, and thou shalt not return unto them.

15.20 And I will make thee a brazen wall unto this people. and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee. for I am with thee to save thee, and to deliver thee, saith YHVH.

15.21 And I will deliver you from the hand of the wicked, and redeem you from the hand of the terrible.

16.1 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

16.2 You shall not take a wife for yourself, nor shall you have sons or daughters in this place.

16.3 For thus saith YHVH concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that begat them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land.

16.4 They shall die of disease and death; they shall not be lamented, nor buried; they shall be as blood upon the face of the earth; and they shall be consumed by the sword and by famine; and their dead bodies shall be food for the fowls of the air, and for the beasts of the earth.

16.5 For thus saith YHVH; Enter not into the house of drunkenness, neither go to the feast, neither be thou moved with them. for I have gathered my peace from this people, saith YHVH, lovingkindness and compassion.

16.6 And when great and small die in this land, they shall not be buried, nor lamented, nor lamented, nor lamented, nor shaved.

16.7 They shall not spread a wreath for them to comfort them for the dead, nor give them a cup of consolation for their father or for their mother.

16.8 And you will not come to a banquet house to sit them down to eat and drink.

16.9 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

16.10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt tell this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath YHVH pronounced all this great evil against us? and what is our iniquity, and what is our sin, which we have sinned against YHVH our God?

16.11 And thou shalt say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith YHVH, and have walked after other gods, and served them, and worshipped them; and they have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.

16.12 But you have done evil in the way your fathers did, and you have walked every one after the imagination of his evil heart, so as not to hearken unto me.

16.13 And I will cast you out of this land into a land which neither you nor your fathers have known; and there you shall serve other gods day and night, which I will not grant you mercy.

16.14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that it shall no more be said, YHVH liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

16.15 For as YHVH liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of the north, and out of all the countries whither he had driven them, and that brought them again into their land, which I gave unto their fathers,

16.16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith YHVH, and they shall fish. and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt from every mountain, and from every hill, and from the holes of the rocks.

16.17 For my eyes are not hid from me upon all their ways, neither is their iniquity hid from my sight.

16.18 And I will be the first to repent of their iniquity, and to make their land sin by their wickedness. They have filled my land with the carcasses of their abominations and their abominations.

16.19 O LORD, my strength and my refuge, and my refuge in the day of trouble. the heathen shall come from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Our fathers have inherited lies, and vanity, and there is none that profiteth them.

16.20 Let man make himself a god, and they are not gods.

16.21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is YHVH.

17.1 The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, with a pen of myrrh, graven on the tablet of their heart, and on the horns of your altars.

17.2 As the memory of their sons, their altars and their offerings are upon a green tree, upon the high hills.

17.3 I will make your army a prey in the field, and all your treasures a spoil. I will give your dead bodies as a sin offering throughout all your borders.

17.4 And you shall be cast out of your inheritance which I gave you, and I will cause your enemies to serve you in a land which you know not. for the fire which they have kindled in my mouth shall burn for ever.

17.5 Thus saith YHVH; Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his seed, and whose heart departeth from YHVH.

17.6 And he shall be as a juniper in the wilderness, and shall not see that good cometh. and he shall dwell in the wilderness, a salt land, and shall not be inhabited.

17.7 Blessed is the man who trusts in YHVH, and whose trust is YHVH.

17.8 And he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, and by the river, that shall send out its roots, and shall not fear when heat cometh; and its leaf shall be green, and shall not be anxious in the year of trouble, neither shall it cease from bearing fruit.

17.9 For the heart is more important than all else, and who is man? We know that

17.10 I YHVH search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the reward of his doings.

17.11 He calls for a young man, but not a child; he makes ten, but not in judgment; in the midst of his days he will be forsaken, and in the end he will be a villain.

17.12 The throne of glory is on high, the first place of our sanctuary.

17.13 The hope of Israel is YHVH. All who forsake you will be dried up. My affliction will be written in the land, because they have forsaken YHVH, the fountain of living waters.

17.14 Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed. save me, and I will be saved. for I have glorified thee.

17.15 Behold, they say unto me, Where shall the word of YHVH come?

17.16 But I have not sought pasture after thee, neither have I desired the day of man. thou knowest that the utterance of my lips was before thy face.

17.17 Do not be my refuge in the day of evil.

17.18 They will pursue me, and I will cut them off from my wife, and I will bring upon them a day of evil, and a change of Hebron from Shebron.

17.19 Thus saith YHVH unto me, Go, and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and whereby they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem.

17.20 And thou shalt say unto them, Hear the word of YHVH, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates.

17.21 Thus saith YHVH; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, and bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem.

17.22 And ye shall not carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work. but hallow the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.

17.23 But they did not listen, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.

17.24 And it shall come to pass, if ye will hearken unto me, saith YHVH, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but to hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein.

17.25 And there shall enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their princes being men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. and this city shall dwell for ever.

17.26 And they came from the cities of Judah, and from the places round about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowland, and from the hill country, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and frankincense, and bringing thanksgiving to the house of YHVH.

17.27 But if you do not listen to me to keep the Sabbath day holy and not to bring a burden through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem and will not be quenched.

18.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

18.2 Arise, and go down to the house of the maker, and there I will make thee hear my words.

18.3 And he went down to the workman's house, and, behold, he wrought upon the stones.

18.4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter. and he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make.

18.5 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

18.6 I cannot do this potter's work for you, O house of Israel, says YHVH. Behold, as clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in the hand of the house of Israel.

18.7 In a moment I will speak concerning a nation and a kingdom, to pluck up, and to break in pieces, and to destroy.

18.8 And that nation shall turn from their evil, which I have spoken against them, and I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

18.9 And in a moment I will speak of a nation, and of a kingdom, of a brick and of a stone,

18.10 And he did evil in my sight, in that he did not obey my voice, and I repented of the good which I said would do him good.

18.11 Now therefore speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you. turn ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.

18.12 And they said, We are in despair, for we will walk after our own devices, and the imagination of our own evil heart will prevail.

18.13 Therefore thus saith YHVH; Ask now among the heathen, who hath heard such things? thou hast greatly provoked the virgin of Israel.

18.14 The siege of the snow devils of Lebanon will be abandoned if cold, flowing foreign waters are broken.

18.15 For my people have forgotten me. they burn incense in vain, and walk in their ways, the paths of the ages, paths not made.

18.16 To make their land a desolation forever; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and shake his head.

18.17 I will scatter them like the east wind before the enemy, and they will not turn their faces away in the day of their judgment.

18.18 And they said, Go, and let counsel be given against Jeremiah. for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. go, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not hearken unto any of his words.

18.19 Hearken unto me, O LORD, and hearken unto the voice of mine adversary.

18.20 Let evil be replaced by good, for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stand before you to speak good to them, to turn away your wrath from them.

18.21 Therefore deliver up their children to famine, and their fathers to the sword. and their wives shall be widows and widowers, and their men shall be slain, their young men slain by the sword in war.

18.22 You will hear a cry from their houses, for you will bring a sudden army against them. For they have plotted to trap me, and have hidden stones at my feet.

18.23 And you, O LORD, know all their counsel against me to kill me. Do not forgive their iniquity, and do not blot out their sin from before you. Let them stumble before you in the time of your anger. Deal with them.

19.1 Thus saith YHVH, Go and buy with a rod of iron, and with the elders of the people, and with the elders of the priests.

19.2 And thou shalt go out unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the door of the potter's gate, and shalt read there the words that I shall speak unto thee.

19.3 And thou shalt say, Hear the word of YHVH, ye kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the ears of whom shall tingle whosoever heareth of it.

19.4 Because they have forsaken me, and have digged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom they have not known, neither they, nor their fathers, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

19.5 And they built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire, a burnt offering unto Baal, which I commanded not, neither spake I it, neither came it into my heart.

19.6 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that this place shall no more be called Taphath, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter.

19.7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life. and I will give their dead bodies to be meat unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the earth.

19.8 And I will make this city a place of hissing, and every one that passeth by it shall hiss, and every one that striketh it shall hiss.

19.9 And they shall eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every man the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the straitness, wherewith their enemies and they that seek their lives shall afflict them.

19.10 And you broke the clogs in the sight of the people who passed by you.

19.11 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH of hosts, Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, which cannot be broken any more. and they shall bury in a pit, where there is no room to bury.

19.12 Thus will I do to this place, saith YHVH, and to the inhabitants thereof, and will make this city a heap of ruins.

19.13 And the houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah were as a place of abominations for all the houses that burned incense upon their roofs unto all the host of heaven, and burnt offerings unto other gods.

19.14 Then Jeremiah came from Tepheth, where YHVH had sent him to prophesy, and stood in the court of YHVH's house, and said unto all the people,

19.15 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city, and upon all the cities thereof, all the evil that I have pronounced against it. because they have hardened their necks, that they would not hear my words.

20.1 Now Pashhur the son of Amer, the priest, who was the officer in charge of the house of YHVH, heard Jeremiah prophesying these words.

20.2 Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper Benjamin Gate, which was in the house of YHVH.

20.3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought Jeremiah out of the stocks, and Jeremiah said unto him, YHVH hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Meghur round about.

20.4 For thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will give thee to be a dwelling, thou, and all thy lovers; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall see it. and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and the Babylonians, and they shall slay thee with the sword.

20.5 And I will give all the good things of this city, and all its labor, and all its precious things, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah, into the hand of their enemies, and they shall plunder them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

20.6 And you, Pashhur, and all your household, shall go into captivity to Babylon, and you shall be brought there, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you and all your lovers, to whom you have prophesied falsely.

20.7 YHVH has tempted me, and you have strengthened me, and I have been a laughingstock all day long, and you have mocked me.

20.8 For if I speak, I will cry out in wrath, and cry out in anger. for the word of YHVH has been to me a reproach and a derision all the day long.

20.9 And I said, I will not make mention of him, neither will I speak any more in his name. and it was in my heart as a burning fire, and I was weary with food, and could not eat.

20.10 For I have heard the tidings of many from all around, saying, Every man, peace be upon me, keep my right hand, lest he tempt us, and we beguile him, and take our vengeance on him.

20.11 And YHVH made me like a mighty man, and a terrible one. therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and shall not be able. they shall be greatly ashamed, because they have not understood. a perpetual rebuke shall not be forgotten.

20.12 But YHVH of hosts tries the righteous, he sees the reins and the heart. I will see thy vengeance on them. for unto thee have I revealed my strife.

20.13 Sing to YHVH, praise YHVH, for he has delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of the wicked.

20.14 Cursed be the day wherein I was born, the day wherein my mother bare me. let it not be blessed.

20.15 Cursed be the man who made my father swear, saying, "You will have a son, a happy son!"

20.16 And that man shall be as the cities which YHVH overthrew, and was not comforted. and he shall hear a cry in the morning, and a terror at noon.

20.17 Because you did not kill me from the womb, and my mother was my grave, and her womb bore me forever.

20.18 Why did I go out from my womb to see labor and sorrow, and they consumed me in the midst of my days?

21.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Malchijah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,

21.2 Entreat YHVH for us, for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon is fighting against us. Perhaps YHVH will do for us according to all his wonderful works and will be exalted above us.

21.3 Then Jeremiah said to them, Thus shall you say to Zedekiah.

21.4 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans that besiege you, from without the walls, and will gather them into this city.

21.5 And I will fight against you with an outstretched hand, and with a strong arm, and with fury, and with great wrath.

21.6 And I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast, with a great plague; they shall die.

21.7 And afterward, saith YHVH, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and them that remain in this city from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life. and they shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have compassion.

21.8 And unto this people shalt thou say, Thus saith YHVH; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.

21.9 He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes out and falls to the Chaldeans who besiege you shall live, and his life shall be for a prey.

21.10 For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith YHVH. it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and it shall be burned with fire.

21.11 And the house of the king of Judah heard the word of YHVH.

21.12 The house of David, thus saith YHVH, Judge them, and let justice come, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor. lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn, and none can quench it, because of the evil of their doings.

21.13 Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, O Tyre of the plain, saith YHVH, which say, Who shall come against us? and who shall enter into our dwellings?

21.14 And I will punish you for your deeds, saith YHVH. and I will kindle a fire in the forest, and it shall devour all around it.

22.1 Thus saith YHVH, Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word.

22.2 And thou shalt say, Hear the word of YHVH, O king of Judah, that sitteth upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates.

22.3 Thus saith YHVH, Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the robbed out of the hand of the oppressed, and the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. give not away, neither oppress, nor shed innocent blood in this place.

22.4 For if ye do this thing, and there come in by the gates of this house kings sitting to David upon his throne, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people,

22.5 And if ye will not hear these words, I swear by me, saith YHVH, that this house shall become a desolation.

22.6 For thus saith YHVH concerning the house of the king of Judah, Gilead. thou art the head of Lebanon unto me; if I make thee not a wilderness, cities that are not inhabited.

22.7 And I will appoint destroyers over you, every one with his weapons; and they shall cut down the choice of your cedars, and cast them into the fire.

22.8 And many nations passed by this city, and said one to another, Why hath YHVH done thus unto this great city?

22.9 And they said, Because they have forsaken the covenant of YHVH their God, and have worshipped other gods, and served them.

22.10 Weep not for the dead, nor mourn for him; weep for him that departeth. for he shall return no more, nor see the land of his birth.

22.11 For thus saith YHVH unto Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which shall reign in the stead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place, he shall return thither no more.

22.12 For in the place where they have carried him away captive, there he shall die, and shall see this land no more.

22.13 Woe to him who builds his house without justice, and builds his dwellings without judgment. He will serve his neighbor for nothing, and his labor will not be rewarded.

22.14 He said, I will build me a house of measures, and the upper rooms of the house shall be painted white. and he shall break out my windows, and shall panel it with cedar, and shall anoint it with pitch.

22.15 Reign, for you are competing with your father's cedar. Isn't he eating and drinking and doing justice and righteousness? It is good for him.

22.16 He that judgeth the poor and needy, then is not knowledge good with me, saith YHVH.

22.17 For your eyes and your heart are not but on your own flesh, and on the shedding of innocent blood, and on the oppression and the oppression of the wicked.

22.18 Therefore thus saith YHVH unto Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, My brother, and my sister; they shall not lament for him, saying, My lord, and my lord.

22.19 He will be buried with the burial of a donkey, carried and thrown beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

22.20 O Lebanon, cry out; and in Bashan, lift up your voice, and cry aloud; for all your lovers are broken.

22.21 I spoke to you in your youth, but you said, "I will not listen to you." This is your way from your youth, because you have not obeyed my voice.

22.22 All your friends will be devoured by the wind, and your lovers will go into captivity. Then you will be ashamed and disgraced for all your evil.

22.23 I lived in Lebanon, I made my nest in the cedars. What did you do when you came to me? I was as strong as a child.

22.24 As I live, saith YHVH, surely though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah be a signet upon my right hand, from thence will I set thee up;

22.25 And I will deliver thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them from whom thou shalt flee, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

22.26 And I will cast thee and thy mother that bare thee into another land, where ye were not born; and there ye shall die.

22.27 And to the land where they lift up their souls to return, thither they shall not return.

22.28 The sorrow is vile and widespread. This man is like a vessel to which no one desires. Why are he and his seed cast down and thrown upon the earth, which they know not?

22.29 O land, O land, hear the word of YHVH.

22.30 Thus saith YHVH, Write this man a son of a woman, he shall not prosper in his days. for none of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, ruling any more in Judah.

23.1 Woe to the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture, saith YHVH!

23.2 Therefore thus saith YHVH God of Israel against the shepherds that feed my people. Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them. behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith YHVH.

23.3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to Noon; and they shall be fruitful and multiply.

23.4 And I will set up shepherds and shepherds over them, and they shall fear no more, neither shall they be cut off, nor shall they be visited, saith YHVH.

23.5 Behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will raise unto David a righteous branch, and a king shall be wise, and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.

23.6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely. and this is his name whereby he shall be called, YHVH our righteousness.

23.7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that they shall no more say, YHVH liveth, which brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

23.8 For as YHVH liveth, which brought up, and which brought the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and out of all the countries whither I had driven them, and they dwelt in their own land,

23.9 My heart is broken within me, all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man overcome with wine, because of YHVH, and because of the words of his holiness.

23.10 For the land is full of adulterers. for because of them the land mourneth; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their desire is evil, and their strength is not so.

23.11 For both prophet and priest have flattered. even in my house have I found their wickedness, saith YHVH.

23.12 Therefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness. they shall stumble and fall therein. for I will bring evil upon them, the year of their visitation, saith YHVH.

23.13 And I have seen a lie in the prophets of Samaria, who prophesied by Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.

23.14 And in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen her shamelessness, adultery, and walking in lies. and the hands of the wicked are strengthened, that none turneth back from his evil. They are all unto me as Sodom, and her inhabitants as Gomorrah.

23.15 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts concerning the prophets, Behold, I will feed them wormwood, and make them drink wormwood. for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.

23.16 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you vanity. they prophesy unto you a vision of their own heart, they speak not from the mouth of YHVH.

23.17 Say to the Menachems, "Tell them the word of YHVH, 'You shall have peace,' and everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart says, 'No evil will come upon you.'"

23.18 For who has stood in the secret of YHVH, and seen and heard his word? or who has listened to my words and heard?

23.19 Behold, the wrath of YHVH is gone forth, a raging tempest. it shall fall upon the head of the wicked.

23.20 The anger of YHVH shall not return, until he have done, and until he have established the thoughts of his heart. in the latter days ye shall consider it wisely.

23.21 I did not send the prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.

23.22 But if they had stood in my secret place, and had heard my words unto my people, and had turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings,

23.23 I am a God at hand, saith YHVH, and not a God afar off.

23.24 If a man hide himself in secret places, and I will not reveal him, saith YHVH; do not I fill the heavens and the earth, saith YHVH?

23.25 I have heard what the prophets have said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

23.26 How long shall there be in the hearts of the prophets false prophets, and prophets of their own heart?

23.27 Who think to make my people forget my name by their dreams, which they tell one to another, as their fathers forgot my name through Baal.

23.28 The prophet who has a dream will tell a dream, and the one who speaks words of truth will speak words of truth. What is the straw that is in the field, says YHVH?

23.29 Is not my word like fire, saith YHVH, and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

23.30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith YHVH, that steal every man his neighbor's words.

23.31 Behold, I am against their prophets, saith YHVH, that teach them their tongues, and they shall speak, saying,

23.32 Behold, I am against the prophets of false dreams, saith YHVH; and they shall tell and lead my people astray by their lies and by their vanity. I sent them not, nor commanded them. and they shall not profit this people, saith YHVH.

23.33 And when this people, or the prophet, or the priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of YHVH? And thou shalt say unto them, What burden is this? and I have forsaken you, saith YHVH.

23.34 And the prophet, and the priest, and the people, shall say, The burden of YHVH. and I will punish that man and his house.

23.35 Thus shall ye say every man to his neighbour, and every man to his brother, What hath YHVH answered? and what hath YHVH spoken?

23.36 And ye shall remember the burden of YHVH no more. for the burden is every man's word. and ye have perverted the words of the living God, YHVH of hosts our God.

23.37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath YHVH answered thee? and what hath YHVH spoken?

23.38 And if ye shall say unto them, The burden of YHVH; thus saith YHVH; because ye have said this thing, The burden of YHVH, I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of YHVH.

23.39 Therefore, behold, I will cast you off, and cast you out of my sight, and the city which I gave to you and to your fathers.

23.40 And I will bring upon you everlasting shame and everlasting destruction, which you shall not forget.

24.1 YHVH showed me, and behold, two fig trees were planted before the temple of YHVH, after that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, and the carpenters, and the smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

24.2 One bush had very good figs, like the firstfruits, and the other bush had very bad figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so bad.

24.3 And YHVH said unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs. The good figs are very good, and the bad figs are very bad; they shall not be eaten. for they are so bad.

24.4 And the word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

24.5 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Like these good figs, so will I know the captivity of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

24.6 And I will set my eyes upon them for good, and I will settle them in this land; and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

24.7 And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am YHVH. and they shall be my people, and I will be their God. for they shall abide in me with all their heart.

24.8 And as the bad figs, which ye cannot eat, they are so bad. for thus saith YHVH; so will I give Zedekiah king of Judah, and his princes, and the remnant of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and that dwell in the land of Egypt.

24.9 And they shall be made an astonishment and a curse unto all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a reproach, and a proverb, and a byword, and a curse, in all places whither I will drive them.

24.10 And I will send the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence among them, until they be consumed out of the land which I gave to them and to their fathers.

25.1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

25.2 Which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

25.3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, these three and twenty years, the word of YHVH hath been unto me, rising up early and speaking unto you, and ye have not hearkened.

25.4 And YHVH sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending; but ye would not hear, nor incline your ear to hear.

25.5 Saying, Turn ye now every man from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land which YHVH hath given to you and to your fathers for ever and ever.

25.6 And ye shall not go after other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them. neither provoke me to anger with the work of your hands, that I may not be hurt.

25.7 And ye have not hearkened unto me, saith YHVH, that ye might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your hurt.

25.8 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts. Because ye have not hearkened unto my words,

25.9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith YHVH, and to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and I will make them a desolation, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

25.10 And I will take away from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of mourning, and the light of a candle.

25.11 And this whole land shall be a desolation for his name. and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

25.12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are fulfilled, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith YHVH, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

25.13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have spoken against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.

25.14 For many nations and great kings have served them, and I have rewarded them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.

25.15 For thus saith YHVH God of Israel unto me, Take this cup of wine that is hot at my hand, and make all the nations, to whom I send thee, drink thereof.

25.16 And they shall drink, and be merry, and rejoice because of the sword which I will send among them.

25.17 And I took the cup at the hand of YHVH, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom YHVH sent me.

25.18 To make Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, and her kings and her princes, a desolation, a hissing, and a curse, as at this day.

25.19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people,

25.20 And all the Arabah, and all the kings of the land of Oz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod.

25.21 Edom, Moab, and the Ammonites

25.22 And all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,

25.23 And Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all the shorn of the hair of the head.

25.24 And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of Arabia that are in the wilderness,

25.25 And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media,

25.26 And all the kings of the north, near and far, every one against his brother, and all the kingdoms of the earth which are upon the face of the earth; and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

25.27 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, Drink ye, and be drunken, and be drunken, and fall, and rise not up, because of the sword which I will send among you.

25.28 And it shall come to pass, when they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, that you shall say to them, Thus says YHVH of hosts, Drink ye, drink ye.

25.29 For, behold, I will bring evil upon the city which is called by my name. and ye shall cleanse it, but ye shall not cleanse it. for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the land, saith YHVH of hosts.

25.30 And thou shalt prophesy unto them all these words, and say unto them, YHVH shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation. he shall roar, he shall roar upon Noah. he shall shout for joy as the wayfarers, he shall answer all the inhabitants of the earth.

25.31 A noise is come unto the end of the earth. for YHVH hath a controversy with the heathen; he is judged against all flesh of the wicked. he hath delivered them to the sword, saith YHVH.

25.32 Thus saith YHVH of hosts; Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great tempest shall be in the midst of the earth.

25.33 And the slain of YHVH shall be in that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth. they shall not be lamented, nor gathered, nor buried. they shall be for blood upon the face of the earth.

25.34 The shepherds howl and cry, and the mighty ones of the flock howl, for your days of slaughter and dispersion are fulfilled, and you have fallen like a vessel of desire.

25.35 And he fled from the shepherds, and escaped from the shepherds of the flock.

25.36 The voice of the cry of the shepherds, and the howling of the mighty ones of the flock, for YHVH has robbed their pasture.

25.37 And the gardens of peace shall be quiet because of the fierce anger of YHVH.

25.38 The Kafir left Seku, because their land was desolate, because of the wrath of the dove, and because of the fierceness of his anger.

26.1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from YHVH, saying,

26.2 Thus saith YHVH, Stand in the court of YHVH'S house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of YHVH all the words that I command thee to speak unto them. decrease not a word.

26.3 Perhaps they will hear and turn every man from his evil way, and I will repent of the evil which I purpose to do unto them, because of the evil of their doings.

26.4 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH, If ye will not hearken unto me, to walk in my law which I have set before you,

26.5 To hearken unto the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, rising up early and sending; but ye have not hearkened.

26.6 And I will give this house as a curse, and this city as a curse to all the nations of the earth.

26.7 And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of YHVH.

26.8 And it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that YHVH had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

26.9 Why hast thou prophesied in the name of YHVH, saying, This house shall be destroyed, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? And all the people gathered themselves together unto Jeremiah in the house of YHVH.

26.10 When the princes of Judah heard these words, they went up from the king's house to the house of YHVH, and sat in the entry of the new gate of YHVH.

26.11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the princes and to all the people, “This man is to be put to death, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”

26.12 Then Jeremiah said to all the officials and to all the people, “YHVH sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.

26.13 Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of YHVH your God. and YHVH will repent him of the evil which he hath pronounced against you.

26.14 And now, behold, I am in your hand. do to me as is good and right in your sight.

26.15 But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon its inhabitants. For in truth YHVH sent me against you to speak all these words in your ears.

26.16 Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets, This man is not worthy of death. for he hath spoken to us in the name of YHVH our God.

26.17 Then some of the elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying,

26.18 Micaiah the Murashti prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and said to all the people of Judah, Thus says YHVH of hosts. Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become a desolation, and the mountain of the house as high places of a forest.

26.19 Did not Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah fear YHVH and seek YHVH? And YHVH relented from the evil that he had pronounced against them, and we brought great harm upon ourselves?

26.20 And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of YHVH, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah.

26.21 And when king Jehoiakim, and all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. and Uriah heard thereof, and feared, and fled, and went into Egypt.

26.22 Then King Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and men with him into Egypt.

26.23 And they brought Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him to king Jehoiakim, and slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the people.

26.24 But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that he should not be delivered into the hand of the people to put him to death.

27.1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

27.2 Thus saith YHVH unto me, Make thee statutes and judgments, and put them upon thy neck.

27.3 And you shall send to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the children of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Sidon, by the hand of messengers who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah.

27.4 And I commanded them unto their masters, saying, Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters.

27.5 I have made the earth, and man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it to whomsoever it seemeth right in my sight.

27.6 And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and I have also given him the beasts of the field to serve him.

27.7 And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his land also came. and many nations and great kings shall serve him.

27.8 And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and which will not bring their necks under the hand of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, saith YHVH, until I have consumed them by his hand.

27.9 And you shall not listen to your prophets, nor to your enchantments, nor to your dreams, nor to your sorcerers, nor to your sorcerers, which speak to you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon.

27.10 For they prophesy a lie unto you, that I may remove you far from your land, and cast you out, and ye shall perish.

27.11 And the nation that shall bring its neck to Baal the king of Babylon, and serve him, and bring him into his own land, saith YHVH, shall serve him, and dwell therein.

27.12 And I spoke to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks unto Baal king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

27.13 Why will you and your people die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as YHVH has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

27.14 And hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon. for they prophesy a lie unto you.

27.15 For I have not sent them, saith YHVH, yet they prophesy falsely in my name, that I may cast you out, and that ye may perish, ye and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

27.16 And I spake unto the priests, and unto all this people, saying, Thus saith YHVH; Hearken not unto the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of YHVH'S house shall now be carried away quickly from Babylon. for they prophesy a lie unto you.

27.17 Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a ruin?

27.18 But if they prophesy, and if there is a word of YHVH among them, let them now plead with YHVH of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of YHVH, and in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, go not into Babylon.

27.19 For thus saith YHVH of hosts unto the pillars, and unto the sea, and unto the vessels, and unto the rest of the vessels that remain in this city.

27.20 For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not carry away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

27.21 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of YHVH, and in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

27.22 They shall be brought to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day that I visit them, saith YHVH, and bring them up, and bring them again to this place.

28.1 And it came to pass in that year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of YHVH in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

28.2 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the neck of the king of Babylon.

28.3 Within two days I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the house of YHVH, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and brought them to Babylon.

28.4 And I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the captives of Judah that are come to Babylon, saith YHVH. for I will break the neck of the king of Babylon.

28.5 Then said Jeremiah the prophet unto Hananiah the prophet in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of YHVH,

28.6 And Jeremiah the prophet said, Amen. YHVH do so. YHVH perform thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the house of YHVH, and all that were carried away captive, from Babylon unto this place.

28.7 But hear now this word which I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people.

28.8 The prophets who were before me and before you were from the world, and they prophesied against many countries and great kingdoms of war and evil and of speaking evil.

28.9 The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet comes, the prophet is known to be truly sent by YHVH.

28.10 Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, and broke it.

28.11 Then Hananiah said in the presence of all the people, “Thus says YHVH. Within two days I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations.” Then Jeremiah the prophet went his way.

28.12 And the word of YHVH came unto Jeremiah, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

28.13 Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith YHVH; Thou hast broken the bars of wood, and made in their stead bars of iron.

28.14 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him. and I have given him also the beasts of the field.

28.15 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah, YHVH has not sent you, and you have made this people promise a lie.

28.16 Therefore thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will send thee away from off the face of the earth. this year thou shalt die, because thou hast spoken perversely against YHVH.

28.17 And Hananiah the prophet died in that year, in the seventh month.

29.1 Now these are the words of the book that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon.

29.2 After Jeconiah the king, and the queen mother, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters and the smiths of Jerusalem, went out

29.3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in Babylon, saying,

29.4 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the captivity, whom I have carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon.

29.5 They built houses and lived in them, and planted gardens and ate their fruit.

29.6 Take wives and have sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to men, and they shall bear sons and daughters, and multiply there, and be not few.

29.7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have carried you captive, and pray to YHVH for it. for in its peace shall ye have peace.

29.8 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you; neither hearken unto your dreams which ye dream.

29.9 For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name. I have not sent them, saith YHVH.

29.10 For thus saith YHVH; When seventy years be accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, to bring you again to this place.

29.11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith YHVH, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an end and a hope.

29.12 And ye shall call upon me, and go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

29.13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall seek me with all your heart.

29.14 And I will be found of you, saith YHVH, and will restore your fortunes, and will gather you out of all the nations, and out of all the places whither I have driven you, saith YHVH, and will bring you again into the place from whence I have carried you away captive.

29.15 Because you have said, YHVH has raised up prophets for us in Babylon.

29.16 For thus saith YHVH unto the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and unto all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that went not with you into captivity;

29.17 Thus saith YHVH of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like bad figs, which cannot be eaten, because they are so bad.

29.18 And I will pursue them with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence; and they shall be delivered into the hand of all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a hissing, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them.

29.19 Because they have not hearkened unto my words, saith YHVH, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, and ye have not hearkened, saith YHVH.

29.20 And you have heard the word of YHVH, all you exiles whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon.

29.21 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, unto Ahab the son of Koliada, and unto Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, that prophesy a lie unto you in my name. Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they shall fall before your eyes.

29.22 And he took up a curse from them for all the captivity of Judah which were in Babylon, saying, YHVH make thee like Zedekiah, and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon burned in the fire.

29.23 Because they have committed lewdness in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them, and I have declared it, saith YHVH.

29.24 And to Shemaiah the Nahalmite thou shalt say,

29.25 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

29.26 YHVH has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, to be in charge of the house of YHVH against every madman who prophesies, and you have given him over to the slanderer and to the slanderer.

29.27 And now why did you not rebuke Jeremiah, the prophet who answered you?

29.28 For therefore Babylon hath sent unto us, saying, It is long. build ye houses, and dwell therein, and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

29.29 And Zephaniah the priest read this book in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

29.30 Then the word of YHVH came to Jeremiah, saying,

29.31 Send to all the exiles, saying, Thus says YHVH to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I have not sent him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie.

29.32 Therefore thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehulmite, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he see the good that I will do for my people, saith YHVH. for the word is against YHVH.

30.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

30.2 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.

30.3 For, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith YHVH, and I will cause them to return unto the land that I gave unto their fathers, and they shall inherit it.

30.4 And these are the words which YHVH spake unto Israel and to Judah.

30.5 For thus saith YHVH; We have heard a voice of terror, fear, and no peace.

30.6 Ask now, and see if the child is male. Why did I see every man with his hands on his loins, like a woman in labor? And all faces were turned to ashes.

30.7 Alas, for that day is great, and there is none like it. it is a time of trouble for Jacob, and he shall be saved from it.

30.8 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith YHVH of hosts, that I will break the yoke from off thy neck, and will cut off thy yoke. and strangers shall no more serve thee.

30.9 And they shall serve YHVH their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

30.10 And fear not, my servant Jacob, saith YHVH; neither be thou afraid, O Israel. for, behold, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of captivity. and Jacob shall return, and be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

30.11 For I am with thee, saith YHVH, to save thee. for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have scattered thee. but with thee will I not make a full end; and I will bring thee into judgment, and I will not acquit thee.

30.12 For thus saith YHVH, Manasseh, I will destroy thee, and I will inherit thy inheritance.

30.13 There is no judge for your judgment, no healing balm for you.

30.14 All your lovers who have forgotten you will not seek you, for the blow of the enemy has struck you, a cruel punishment for the multitude of your iniquities, your sins.

30.15 Why do you cry out for your human blessing, for your pain, for the multitude of your own iniquities? I have done these things to you, your sins.

30.16 Therefore all who ate you will be eaten, and all who were in need will go into captivity, and I will make you a prey, and all your plunder I will give to the plunderer.

30.17 For I will raise up my strength unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith YHVH. for thou wast rejected, called Zion, she sought none.

30.18 Thus saith YHVH; Behold, I will restore the tabernacles of Jacob, and will have mercy upon his habitations. and the city shall be built upon a high place, and the palace shall be built upon the judgment seat.

30.19 And there shall come out of them thanksgiving and the voice of rejoicing; and they shall increase, and not decrease; and they shall be heavy, and not be diminished.

30.20 And his sons shall be as before, and his congregation before him. and I will judge all his afflictions.

30.21 And he shall be greater than he, and his kingdom shall come forth from his midst. and I will bring him near, and he shall come near unto me. for who is this that has dared to approach me, saith YHVH?

30.22 And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

30.23 Behold, the wrath of YHVH is gone forth, a tempest that dwelleth upon the head of the wicked. it shall fall.

30.24 The anger of YHVH shall not return, until he have done, and until he have established the thoughts of his heart. in the latter days ye shall consider it.

31.1 At that time, says YHVH, I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

31.2 Thus saith YHVH, He found favor in the wilderness with them that were left of the sword, to go and comfort Israel.

31.3 I have seen you from afar, O LORD, with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.

31.4 Again you will be built, and you will be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel; again you will be built, and you will go forth in dances and games.

31.5 You will plant vineyards again on the mountains of Samaria; planters will plant and desecrate.

31.6 For there is a day when the vinedressers of mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise, and let us go up to Zion unto YHVH our God.

31.7 For thus saith YHVH; Sing with joy for Jacob, and be glad among the chief of the nations; make the voice of praise to be heard, and say, O LORD, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

31.8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the sides of the earth. they shall be with child and with child together. a great company shall return hither.

31.9 With weeping they shall come, and with supplications I will lead them, and by the rivers of water I will lead them, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble. for I have been a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.

31.10 The nations shall hear the word of YHVH, and declare it in the isles afar off, and say, From abroad shall Israel be gathered together, and shall keep them as the shepherd of his flock.

31.11 For YHVH hath redeemed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.

31.12 And they shall come and sing for joy on the heights of Zion, and shall flow to the goodness of YHVH, for the grain, and for the wine, and for the winepress, and for the young of the flock, and for the herd. and their soul shall be like a watered garden, and they shall no more be weary.

31.13 Then the virgin shall rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old men together. and I will turn their mourning into joy, and they shall be comforted and rejoice from their mourning.

31.14 And I will satisfy the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith YHVH.

31.15 Thus saith YHVH, A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.

31.16 Thus saith YHVH; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears. for there is a reward for thy work, saith YHVH. and return from the land of the enemy.

31.17 And there is hope for your latter end, says YHVH, and your children shall return to their border.

31.18 I have heard that Ephraim is rebelling; he has driven me away, he has driven me away like an untrained calf. He has brought me back, and I will return, for you are YHVH my God.

31.19 For after my return I was comforted, and after I was informed, I doubted my thigh, and I was also ashamed, because I bore the reproach of my youth.

31.20 Ephraim is a dear son to me, a child of delights; for I remember him as long as I speak to him; therefore I will have compassion on him, I will have mercy on him, says YHVH.

31.21 Set up for yourself watchtowers, my name is for you, set your heart on the way, the way I have walked, return, O virgin of Israel, return to these your cities.

31.22 How long will you hide yourselves, O you naughty daughter? For YHVH has created a new thing in the land, a woman who will bewitch a man.

31.23 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; They shall yet say this word in the land of Judah, and in the cities thereof, when I bring again their captivity. YHVH shall bless thee, O land of righteousness, O holy mountain.

31.24 Judah and all its cities lived there together as farmers, traveling with their flocks.

31.25 For I have satisfied the weary soul, and every afflicted soul I have filled.

31.26 Therefore I awoke and saw, and my sleep was a sure thing for me.

31.27 Behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and the seed of beast.

31.28 And it shall come to pass, that as I have watched over them to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to overthrow, and to do evil, so will I watch over them to build up, and to plant, saith YHVH.

31.29 In those days they shall no longer say, The fathers have eaten a meal, and the two sons have been deaf.

31.30 For if a man die for his own sin, all the man who eats the unleavened bread will be ashamed.

31.31 Behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.

31.32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; but they broke my covenant, and I was their husband, saith YHVH.

31.33 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith YHVH. I will put my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

31.34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know YHVH. for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith YHVH. for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

31.35 Thus saith YHVH, Who giveth the sun for a light by day, The ordinance of the moon and stars for a light by night. The sea roareth, and the waves thereof roar. YHVH of hosts is his name.

31.36 If these laws cease from before me, says YHVH, then the seed of Israel will cease from being a nation forever.

31.37 Thus saith YHVH. If the heavens above be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also punish all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith YHVH.

31.38 Behold, the days are come, saith YHVH, that the city shall be built unto YHVH, from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner.

31.39 And another line went out against him, measuring the height of the hill, and turned about.

31.40 And all the valley of the carcases, and of the fat, and all the groves, even unto the brook Kidron, even unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto YHVH; it shall not be plucked up, nor destroyed any more for ever.

32.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

32.2 Then the army of the king of Babylon besieged Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the house of the king of Judah.

32.3 Who had taken Zedekiah king of Judah captive, saying, Why do you prophesy, saying, Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it?

32.4 And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans. for he shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. and his mouth shall speak with his mouth, and his eyes shall see his eyes.

32.5 And he shall carry Zedekiah away to Babylon, and there he shall be until I have dealt with him, saith YHVH. though ye fight against the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper.

32.6 Then Jeremiah said, The word of YHVH came unto me, saying,

32.7 Behold, Hanamel the son of Salem your uncle shall come to you, saying, Buy for yourself the fields that are in Anathoth, for the right of redemption is yours to buy them.

32.8 Then Hanamel the son of Dedi came to me, according to the word of YHVH, into the court of the prison, and said unto me, Buy me, I pray thee, my portion that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin. for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine. buy it for thee, and I know that it is the word of YHVH.

32.9 And I bought the field of Hanamel the son of Dedi, which was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, seven shekels and ten shekels of silver.

32.10 And I will write in a book, and seal it, and call witnesses, and weigh the money in the balances.

32.11 And I took the book of the purchase, the sealed book, the commandment, and the statutes, and the open book.

32.12 And I gave the deed of purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, in the sight of Hanamel the son of Dedi, and in the sight of the witnesses that wrote in the deed of purchase, in the sight of all the Jews that sat in the court of the gate.

32.13 And I commanded Baruch before their eyes, saying,

32.14 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these books, this book of the purchase, and this sealed book, and this open book, and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.

32.15 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; They shall yet buy houses, and fields, and vineyards, in this land.

32.16 And I prayed unto YHVH, after that I had given the deed of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, saying,

32.17 Ah Lord GOD, behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power, and by thy outstretched arm. nothing is too great for thee.

32.18 He shows steadfast love to thousands, and repays the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them. The great God, the mighty One, YHVH of hosts is his name.

32.19 Great is the counsel, and the multitude of the riddles. for thine eyes are open unto all the ways of men, to give every man according to his ways, and the fruit of his doings.

32.20 Who hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt unto this day, and in Israel, and in Adam, and hast made thee a name, as at this day.

32.21 And thou broughtest forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror.

32.22 And thou shalt give them this land, which thou swarest unto their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

32.23 And they came and possessed it, and they obeyed not thy voice, nor thy statutes, they walked not in all that thou commandedst them to do, they did not do them. and thou broughtest upon them all this evil.

32.24 Behold, the siege ramps are come to the city to take it, and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it because of the sword and the famine. and the word that thou hast spoken shall come to pass, and thou seest it.

32.25 And thou saidst unto me, YHVH GOD hath bought thee the field for money, and there are witnesses. and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

32.26 Then the word of YHVH came to Jeremiah, saying,

32.27 Behold, I am YHVH, the God of all flesh. all that is mine shall be astonished.

32.28 Therefore thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it.

32.29 And the Chaldeans that fight against this city shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, and the houses whereon they burned incense unto Baal, and poured out vessels unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

32.30 For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil in my sight from their youth. for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith YHVH.

32.31 For this city has been to me a cause of anger and wrath from the day that it was built until this day, to remove it from before my face.

32.32 For all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

32.33 And they turned unto me the back, and not the face. and I taught them early and taught them, and they hearkened not to receive instruction.

32.34 And they shall set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

32.35 And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to sacrifice their sons and their daughters unto the king. which I commanded not, neither came it into my heart to do this abomination, to make Judah sin.

32.36 Now therefore thus saith YHVH God of Israel concerning this city, of which ye say, It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

32.37 Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my wrath, and in great fury, and will bring them again to this place, and will bring them safely.

32.38 And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

32.39 And I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me always, for the good of them, and of their children after them.

32.40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them to do them good. and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.

32.41 And I will work for their good, and I will plant them in this land in truth with all my heart and with all my soul.

32.42 For thus saith YHVH; As I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

32.43 And the field shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is a desolate land, without man or beast, and it shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

32.44 They shall buy fields for money, and write in a deed, and seal it, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places round about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the south. for I will bring again their captivity, saith YHVH.

33.1 And the word of YHVH came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the guard, saying,

33.2 Thus saith YHVH, the maker thereof, YHVH that formed it, to prepare it. YHVH is his name.

33.3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great things and troubles, which thou knowest not.

33.4 For thus saith YHVH God of Israel concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down by the heaps and by the sword.

33.5 They come to fight against the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have smitten in my anger and in my wrath, and whom I have hid my face from this city for all their evil.

33.6 Behold, I will bring unto her a time of rest, and a healing, and I will heal them, and will shew them the word of peace and truth.

33.7 And I will restore the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and the captivity of the Nethinim, as at the first.

33.8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will forgive all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned against me, and whereby they have transgressed against me.

33.9 And I will be a name of joy, a praise and a glory among all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good that I will do for them, and they will fear and be angry for all the good and for all the peace that I will do for them.

33.10 Thus saith YHVH; It shall be heard again in this place, whereof ye say, The sword is without man and without beast. in the cities of Judah, and in the midst of Jerusalem, the souls shall be without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast.

33.11 The voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that say, Give thanks unto YHVH of hosts, for YHVH is good. for his mercy endureth for ever. they shall bring praise unto the house of YHVH. for I will restore the captivity of the land as at the first, saith YHVH.

33.12 Thus saith YHVH of hosts; There shall yet be in this place a slaughter from man to beast. and in all the cities thereof shall be no shepherds, that cause their flocks to lie down.

33.13 In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, in the cities of the Negev, in the land of Benjamin, and around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, until the flock passes by the hand of a man, says YHVH.

33.14 Behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken unto the house of Israel and unto the house of Judah.

33.15 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to grow up for David, and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.

33.16 In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely. and this is the name which YHVH our righteousness shall call her.

33.17 For thus saith YHVH; David shall not lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.

33.18 And for the Levitical priests, no one shall be cut off from before the high place to burn burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices continually.

33.19 Then the word of YHVH came to Jeremiah, saying,

33.20 Thus saith YHVH, If ye break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, so that day and night should not be at their season,

33.21 Also my covenant thou hast broken with David my servant, that he should have a son to reign upon his throne, and with the Levites the priests my ministers.

33.22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured. so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites my ministers.

33.23 Then the word of YHVH came to Jeremiah, saying,

33.24 Have you not seen what this people have said, saying, The two families which YHVH hath chosen, and he hath abhorred them, and my people shall be cut off from being any more a nation before them?

33.25 Thus saith YHVH, If it were not for my covenant, day and night, I would not have established the ordinances of heaven and earth.

33.26 The seed of Jacob and David my servant Amasa shall take of his seed a sheaf, and shall rejoice in the seed of Abraham and Jacob. for I will bring again their captivity, and have mercy on them.

34.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, concerning Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion, and all the peoples, fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying,

34.2 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and say unto him, Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

34.3 And thou shalt not escape out of his hand. for thou shalt surely be taken, and shalt be delivered into his hand. and thine eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and his mouth shall speak with thy mouth. and thou shalt come into Babylon.

34.4 But hear the word of YHVH, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Thus saith YHVH concerning thee. Thou shalt not die by the sword.

34.5 You will die in peace, and as your fathers were burned, the first kings who were before you, so they will burn you, and they will mourn for you, O Lord, for I have spoken, I have spoken, says YHVH.

34.6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem.

34.7 And the army of the king of Babylon fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, even unto Lachish, and unto Azekah. for there remained of the cities of Judah only fenced cities.

34.8 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, after that King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to proclaim freedom for them.

34.9 To let every man his manservant and every man his maidservant, the Hebrews and the Hebrew women, go free, that they may not be enslaved by the Jews of Ahiahu, every man.

34.10 And all the princes, and all the people that had entered into the covenant, to let every man his manservant, and every man his maidservant, go free, that they should no more serve them, heard it, and sent.

34.11 And afterward they returned, and brought again the menservants and the maidservants, whom they had sent away free, and brought them into subjection for menservants and maidservants.

34.12 Then came the word of YHVH unto Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

34.13 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel. I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,

34.14 At the end of seven years you shall let go every man his brother, a Hebrew, who has been sold to you, and he shall serve you six years, and you shall let him go free from among you. But your fathers did not listen to me, nor inclined their ear.

34.15 And ye shall sit down this day, and do that which is right in my sight, to proclaim liberty every man to his neighbour, and to make a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name.

34.16 And ye shall return, and profane my name, and take again every man his manservant, and every man his maidservant, whom ye had sent away free for their lives, and bring them into subjection to you for bondmen and bondwomen.

34.17 Therefore thus saith YHVH. Ye have not hearkened unto me, to proclaim liberty every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor. behold, I proclaim liberty unto you, saith YHVH, unto the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will deliver you to be a terror unto all the kingdoms of the earth.

34.18 And I will give the men that transgress my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before the calf, which they cut in two, and passed between its parts,

34.19 The princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, were among the parts of the calf.

34.20 And I will give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their lives. and their dead bodies shall be meat for the fowls of the air, and for the beasts of the earth.

34.21 And I will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, which shall carry you away.

34.22 Behold, I command, saith YHVH, and I will bring the remnant of the people against this city, and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire. and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

35.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

35.2 Go to the house of the chariots, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of YHVH, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

35.3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazzaniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rehabites,

35.4 And they brought them into the house of YHVH, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

35.5 And I set before the house of the Rebekah bowls full of wine, and cups, and said unto them, Drink wine.

35.6 And they said, We will drink no wine. for Jonadab the son of Rebekah our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, ye, nor your sons for ever.

35.7 And ye shall not build a house, nor sow seed, nor plant a vineyard, neither shall ye have any. but ye shall dwell in tents all your days, that ye may live many days in the land wherein ye are strangers.

35.8 And we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rebekah our father, in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters.

35.9 And without daughters we shall have houses to dwell in, and vineyards, and fields, and seed.

35.10 And we will dwell in tents, and will hearken, and do according to all that our father commanded us,

35.11 And it came to pass, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that they said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem because of the army of the Chaldeans, and because of the army of the Syrians, and we will dwell in Jerusalem.

35.12 Then the word of YHVH came to Jeremiah, saying,

35.13 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and say unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not take heed to hearken unto my words, saith YHVH?

35.14 The words of Jehonadab the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons, that they should not drink wine, are performed. and unto this day they drink none. for they have obeyed the commandment of their father. and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, and ye have not hearkened unto me.

35.15 And I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, saying, Turn ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and return unto the land which I gave unto you and to your fathers. but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

35.16 For the sons of Jehonadab the son of Rebekah have carried out the commandments of their father, which were of fasting. but this people have not hearkened unto me.

35.17 Therefore thus saith YHVH God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them. because I spake unto them, but they hearkened not; and I called unto them, but they answered not.

35.18 And to the house of the Rehoboams Jeremiah said, Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel. Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and have kept all his commandments, and done according to all that he commanded you,

35.19 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; There shall not be a man cut off for Jonadab the son of Rebekah, which stood before him for ever.

36.1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from YHVH, saying,

36.2 Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee concerning Israel, and concerning Judah, and concerning all the nations, from the day that I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah even unto this day.

36.3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them, that they may turn every one from his evil way, and I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.

36.4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah. and Baruch wrote at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of YHVH, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

36.5 Then Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up, I cannot go into the house of YHVH.

36.6 And thou shalt go and read in the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of YHVH in the ears of the people in the house of YHVH upon a fast day. and also in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities shalt thou read them.

36.7 Perhaps their standing before YHVH will be humbled, and they will each turn to their evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that YHVH has spoken against this people.

36.8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book of the words of YHVH in the house of YHVH.

36.9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before YHVH.

36.10 And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of YHVH, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the upper court, at the opening of the new gate of the house of YHVH, in the ears of all the people.

36.11 And Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, heard all the words of YHVH out of the book.

36.12 And the king's house went down to the scribe's chamber, and, behold, there sat all the princes, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

36.13 And Michaiah told them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

36.14 Then all the princes sent to Baruch Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, saying, Take in thine hand the roll which thou hast read in the ears of the people, and go. And Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came unto them.

36.15 And they said unto him, Sit down, I pray thee, and read it in our ears. and Baruch read it in their ears.

36.16 And it came to pass, when they heard all these words, that they were afraid one of another, and said unto Baruch, Tell us, we will tell the king all these words.

36.17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us, I pray thee, how thou wrotest all these words at his mouth.

36.18 And Baruch said unto them, Let him read all these words unto me from his mouth, and I will write them in ink upon the book.

36.19 Then the princes said unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, and let no man know where ye are.

36.20 And they came to the king's court, and laid up the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and told all the words in the ears of the king.

36.21 Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took the scroll from Elishama's chamber, and Jehudi read it in the ears of the king and of all the princes who stood before the king.

36.22 And the king sat in the winter house in the ninth month, and the hearth was burning before him.

36.23 And it came to pass, when a Jew had called three or four doors, that he would tear the book with a razor, and cast it into the fire that was in the hearth, until all the revelation was finished upon the fire that was in the hearth.

36.24 And the king and all his servants who heard all these words were not afraid, nor did they tear their clothes.

36.25 And Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah, persuaded the king not to burn the ephod. and he hearkened not unto them.

36.26 Then the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. and YHVH hid them.

36.27 And the word of YHVH came unto Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

36.28 Take thee again another roll, and write upon it all the former words that were on the first roll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah burned.

36.29 And thou shalt say unto Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus saith YHVH, Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written upon it, saying, The king of Babylon shall come, and shall destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from it man and beast?

36.30 Therefore thus saith YHVH concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah; He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out by the sword by day, and by the frost by night.

36.31 And I will punish him, and his seed, and his servants, for their iniquity. and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them. but they hearkened not.

36.32 Then Jeremiah took another roll, and gave the book to Baruch the son of Neriah. and he wrote therein at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the book, which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire, and added unto them many other things, as these.

37.1 And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned in the place of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

37.2 But he and his servants and the people of the land did not listen to the words of YHVH that he had spoken through the prophet Jeremiah.

37.3 Then King Zedekiah sent Jehoiachin son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "Please pray for us to YHVH our God."

37.4 And Jeremiah came and went among the people, and they did not put him in the prison.

37.5 And Pharaoh's army came out of Egypt. and the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard the report of them, and they went up against Jerusalem.

37.6 Then the word of YHVH came to Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

37.7 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, which sent you unto me to enquire of me. Behold, Pharaoh's army is come out to help you. return into the land of Egypt.

37.8 And the Chaldeans returned, and fought against this city, and took it, and burned it with fire.

37.9 Thus saith YHVH, Eloquent ye not, saying, The Chaldeans shall depart from us. for they shall not depart.

37.10 For if you defeat the entire army of the Chaldeans who are fighting against you, and only a few men remain among them, each one in his tent, they will rise up and burn this city with fire.

37.11 And it came to pass, when the army of the Chaldeans was come up against Jerusalem because of Pharaoh's army,

37.12 Then Jeremiah went out from Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to distribute from there among the people.

37.13 And it came to pass, when he was in the gate of Benjamin, that there was a certain man of the guard, whose name was Jeriah the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah. and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou art fallen away to the Chaldeans.

37.14 And Jeremiah said, It is not a lie. I have fallen to the Chaldeans, and they hearkened not unto him. And they took Jeremiah's vision, and brought him to the princes.

37.15 Then the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in the house of the prison, even in the house of Jonathan the scribe. for they had made him a prisoner.

37.16 For Jeremiah came to the house of the cistern, and to the prisons. and Jeremiah remained there many days.

37.17 Then king Zedekiah sent, and took him. and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from YHVH? And Jeremiah said, There is. And he said, Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

37.18 Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “What have I done wrong to you, your servants, and this people, that you have put me in prison?”

37.19 And where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

37.20 Now therefore, my lord the king, hearken, I pray thee, and make supplication unto thee, and do not commit me to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

37.21 Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and gave him a loaf of bread a day without the bakers' ovens, until all the bread in the city was spent. and Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison.

38.1 Now Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah was speaking to all the people, saying,

38.2 Thus saith YHVH; He that dwelleth in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. and he that goeth out to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be for a prey, and he shall live.

38.3 Thus saith YHVH, This city shall be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.

38.4 Then the princes said unto the king, Let this man, I pray thee, be put to death. for he strengtheneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, to speak unto them according to these words. for this man seeketh not the peace of this people, but evil.

38.5 And king Zedekiah said, Behold, he is in your hand. for the king can do nothing with you.

38.6 Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the cistern of Malchijah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison. and they let down Jeremiah with cords; and there was no water in the cistern, but mire. and Jeremiah was drowned in the mire.

38.7 And the king's servant the Ethiopian, a eunuch, which was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon. and the king sat in the gate of Benjamin.

38.8 Then a servant went out of the king's house, and spake unto the king, saying,

38.9 My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, in that they have cast him into the cistern, and he died in his place because of famine; for there is no more bread in the city.

38.10 Then the king commanded Ebed the Ethiopian, saying, Take with thee thirty men of these, and lift up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he die.

38.11 Then Ebed-melech took the men by the hand, and went into the king's house, into the treasury, and took from thence sacks of rags, and sacks of salt, and sent them with ropes to Jeremiah in the dungeon.

38.12 And the servant of the king of Ethiopia said unto Jeremiah, Put, I pray thee, the rags and the salt under thine hands under the cords. And Jeremiah did so.

38.13 And they drew Jeremiah with ropes, and took him up out of the dungeon. and Jeremiah sat in the court of the prison.

38.14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of YHVH. And the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing; hide nothing from me.

38.15 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, If I tell you, will you not surely kill me? And if I give you counsel, will you not hearken to me?

38.16 Then Zedekiah the king sware secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As YHVH liveth, that hath made this life for us, shall I put thee to death, or deliver thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life?

38.17 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Thus says YHVH, the God of hosts, the God of Israel. If you will go out and surrender to the king of Babylon's officials, your life will be spared, and this city will not be burned with fire, but you and your household will live.

38.18 But if you do not go out to the king of Babylon's officials, this city will be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they will burn it with fire, and you yourself will not escape from their hand.

38.19 Then King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am concerned about the Jews who have fallen to the Chaldeans, so that they will not hand me over to them and abuse me.

38.20 And Jeremiah said, They shall not give. hearken, I pray thee, unto the voice of YHVH that I speak unto thee; and it shall be well with thee, and thy soul shall live.

38.21 But if you refuse to go out, this is what YHVH has shown me.

38.22 And, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah's house shall go forth unto the princes of the king of Babylon, and shall speak these words, saying, Thy peaceable men are come unto thee, they have sunk thy feet in the mire, they are turned back.

38.23 And all your wives and your children shall they bring out to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape from their hand, but you shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon, and this city shall be burned with fire.

38.24 Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no one know of these words, and you will not die.”

38.25 And it shall come to pass, when the princes hear that I have spoken with thee, that they shall come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us, I pray thee, what thou spakest unto the king, hide it not from him, that we put thee not to death. and what the king said unto thee?

38.26 And thou shalt say unto them, I beseech thee, I beseech thee, that thou wouldest not return me to the house of Jonathan, to die there.

38.27 Then all the princes came to Jeremiah, and asked him. and he told them all these words that the king had commanded. and they were silent, because they would not hearken unto the word.

38.28 And Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken. and it came to pass, when Jerusalem was taken,

39.1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came with all his army against Jerusalem and laid siege to it.

39.2 In the twelfth year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the city was destroyed.

39.3 Then all the princes of the king of Babylon came and sat in the inner gate. Nergal the chief treasurer, Samgar Nebo the chief treasurer, Rabsaris Nergal the chief treasurer, Rabsaris Meg, and all the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.

39.4 And it came to pass, when Zedekiah king of Judah saw it, he and all the men of war fled, and went out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate between the trees, and went out by the way of the plain.

39.5 But the Chaldean army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and took him, and brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, and pronounced judgment upon him.

39.6 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Rabbah before his eyes. and the king of Babylon slew all the children of Judah.

39.7 And Zedekiah put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters, to carry him to Babylon.

39.8 And the Chaldeans burned the king's house and the house of the people with fire, and the palaces of Jerusalem were broken down.

39.9 And the rest of the people that remain in the city, and the slain that fall upon it, and the rest of the people that remain, shall be carried away captive to Babylon, and the great slaughterer shall be scattered.

39.10 But of the poor of the people, which had nothing, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at that time.

39.11 Then Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon gave command concerning Jeremiah by the hand of Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,

39.12 Take him, and set your eyes on him, and do him no harm; but do to him as he says to you.

39.13 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, and Nebushazban the captain of the eunuchs, and Nergal the treasurer, and the captain of the guard, and all the scribes of the king of Babylon, sent.

39.14 Then they sent and took Jeremiah from the court of the guard, and committed him to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to bring him into the house. and he dwelt among the people.

39.15 And the word of YHVH came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying,

39.16 Go and tell the servant of the king of Ethiopia, Thus says YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel. Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be before you in that day.

39.17 And I will deliver thee in that day, saith YHVH; and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men from whom thou dwellest.

39.18 For I will deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword; but thy life shall be for a spoil, because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith YHVH.

40.1 The word that came to Jeremiah from YHVH, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had sent him from the high place, to take him, and he was bound in fetters among all the captivity of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive to Babylon.

40.2 Then the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, O LORD thy God, speak this evil upon this place.

40.3 And YHVH came and did as he said, because you have sinned against YHVH and have not obeyed his voice, and this thing has come upon you.

40.4 And now, behold, I have loosed thee this day from the bonds which are upon thine hand. if it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will set mine eyes upon thee. but if it seem evil unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear. All the land shall see before thee, whithersoever it seemeth good and right unto thee, go thither.

40.5 And yet he shall not return, but shall return to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor in the cities of Judah, and shall return with him among the people, or to all that seem good in thine eyes to go with thee. And he shall give him a captain of the guard, and provisions, and a victual, and shall send him away.

40.6 Then Jeremiah came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam at Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

40.7 And all the captains of the forces that were in the field, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam in the land, and that he had committed to him men, and women, and little ones, and of the children of the land, whom they had not carried away captive to Babylon.

40.8 And they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Korah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhameth, and the sons of Ophi the Netophathite, and Jazaniah the son of Maachathite, they and their men.

40.9 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, sware unto them, and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans. dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

40.10 And, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah to stand before the Chaldeans, which shall come unto us. and ye shall gather wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities which ye have taken.

40.11 And all the Jews that were in Moab, and in the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had given a remnant to Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan.

40.12 Then all the Jews from all the places where they had been driven came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered wine and spices in great abundance.

40.13 Then Johanan the son of Korah and all the captains of the forces who were in the field came to Gedaliah at Mizpah.

40.14 And they said unto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis king of the children of Ammon hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay a man? and Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

40.15 Then Johanan the son of Korah spoke secretly to Gedaliah at Mizpah, saying, "I will go and strike Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no one will know why he will strike a soul. Then all Judah who are gathered to you will be scattered, and the remnant of Judah will perish."

40.16 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Korah, Do not do this thing. for thou speakest falsely unto Ishmael.

41.1 And it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and Rabbah the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah. and they did eat bread there together in Mizpah.

41.2 Then arose Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he died, whom the king of Babylon had made governor in the land.

41.3 And Ishmael slew all the Jews that were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, the men of war.

41.4 And it came to pass on the second day, that Gedaliah was put to death, and no man knew it.

41.5 And there came men from Shechem, and from Samaria, eighty men, every man with shaved beards, and with torn clothes, and with turbans, with offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of YHVH.

41.6 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went out to meet them from Mizpah, weeping as he went. And it came to pass, when he met them, that he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

41.7 And it came to pass, when they were come into the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah slew them in the midst of the pit, he and the men that were with him.

41.8 And ten men were found among them, and said unto Ishmael, Slay us not. for we have treasures in the field of wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey. and it shall be, that ye have not slain them among their brethren.

41.9 Now the pit into which Ishmael had thrown all the dead bodies of the men whom Gedaliah had killed was the one that King Asa had made because of Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled it with the dead bodies.

41.10 Then Ishmael carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that were left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away, and went over against the children of Ammon.

41.11 And Johanan the son of Korah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done.

41.12 And they took all the people, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters which are in Gibeon.

41.13 And it came to pass, when all the people that were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Korah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, that they rejoiced.

41.14 And all the people whom Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah returned, and went to Johanan the son of Korah.

41.15 And Ishmael the son of Nethaniah fled with eight men from before Johanan, and went to the children of Ammon.

41.16 Then Johanan the son of Korah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom he had brought back from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, even the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon.

41.17 And they went and dwelt as old as they that were by Bethlehem, to go and enter into Egypt.

41.18 Because of the Chaldeans, because they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had made governor in the land.

42.1 Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Korah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshea, and all the people, both small and great, approached

42.2 And they said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let our supplication, I pray thee, be made manifest unto thee, and pray for us unto YHVH thy God for all this remnant. for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes see us.

42.3 And YHVH thy God hath shewed us the way wherein we should go, and the thing which we should do.

42.4 Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, "I have heard you, and I will pray to YHVH your God according to your words. And it shall come to pass that whatever word YHVH answers you, I will tell you; I will keep nothing back from you."

42.5 And they said unto Jeremiah, YHVH be our son for ever in truth and in faithfulness. if not according to all that YHVH thy God shall send thee unto us, so will we do.

42.6 Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of YHVH our God, to whom we send you, that it may be well with us, that we may obey the voice of YHVH our God.

42.7 And it came to pass at the end of ten days, that the word of YHVH came unto Jeremiah,

42.8 And he called for Johanan the son of Korah, and for all the captains of the forces that were with him, and for all the people, both small and great.

42.9 And he said unto them, Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to overthrow your stand before him.

42.10 If you return to this land, I will build you and not pull you down; I will plant you and not uproot you; for I will repent of the evil that I have done to you.

42.11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; do not be afraid of him, declares YHVH, for I am with you to save you and deliver you from his hand.

42.12 And I will show you mercy, and have compassion on you, and bring you again into your own land.

42.13 And if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, because we have not obeyed the voice of YHVH your God.

42.14 Saying, We will not go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor hunger for bread; and there we shall dwell.

42.15 And now therefore hear the word of YHVH, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, If ye set your faces to go into Egypt, and are come to sojourn there.

42.16 And it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow after you there into Egypt; and there ye shall die.

42.17 And all the men that set their faces to come to Egypt to sojourn there shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. and they shall have none to remain, nor to escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

42.18 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; As my anger and my wrath were poured out upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my wrath be poured out upon you, when ye shall come into Egypt. and ye shall be for a curse, and for a reproach, and for a curse, and for a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

42.19 Thus saith YHVH unto you, O remnant of Judah, Go not into Egypt. know ye, that I have testified against you this day.

42.20 For ye deceived yourselves, when ye sent me unto YHVH your God, saying, Pray for us unto YHVH our God, and whatsoever YHVH our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.

42.21 And I have declared unto you this day, and ye have not obeyed the voice of YHVH your God, nor in all that he hath sent me unto you.

42.22 Now therefore know for certain that you shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, in the place where you desire to go to live.

43.1 And it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of YHVH their God, for which YHVH their God had sent them, all these words,

43.2 Then said Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Korah, and all the spies, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely. YHVH our God hath not sent thee, saying, Ye shall not go into Egypt to sojourn there.

43.3 For Baruch the son of Neriah is inciting us against you, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, to put us to death, and to carry us away captive to Babylon.

43.4 But Johanan the son of Korah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of YHVH, to dwell in the land of Judah.

43.5 Then Johanan the son of Korah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, who had returned from all the nations that were left there to dwell in the land of Judah.

43.6 The men, the women, the children, the king's daughters, and all the souls whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left, Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.

43.7 And they came into the land of Egypt, because they obeyed not the voice of YHVH. and they came even unto Tahpanhes.

43.8 And the word of YHVH came unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

43.9 Take great stones in your hand, and hide them in the mortar in the square that is at the entrance of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the Jewish people.

43.10 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne above these stones that I have hid. and he shall cast his scepter upon them.

43.11 And he came and smote the land of Egypt, such as were for death, to death; and such as were for captivity, to captivity; and such as were for the sword, to the sword.

43.12 And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and it shall burn them, and consume them. and it shall cover the land of Egypt, as a wicked man putteth off his garment, and shall go out from thence in peace.

43.13 And he shall break down the pillars of Beth-shemesh, which is in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the gods of Egypt shall he burn with fire.

44.1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who lived in the land of Egypt, those who lived in Migdal, Tahpanhes, Naphtali, and the land of Pathros, saying,

44.2 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, they are a desolation this day, and there is none inhabitant therein.

44.3 Because of the evil which they have done to provoke me to anger, in going to burn incense to serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known.

44.4 And I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, saying, Ye shall not do this abomination that I hate.

44.5 But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their evil, to not burn incense to other gods.

44.6 And my wrath and my anger shall be kindled, and shall burn in the cities of Judah and in the north of Jerusalem; and they shall be desolate and desolate, as at this day.

44.7 And now thus saith YHVH God of hosts, the God of Israel, why do ye commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you no remnant?

44.8 To provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, to make me to sin against other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye are gone to dwell; that I may cut you off, and that ye may be a curse and a reproach among all the people of the earth.

44.9 You have forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, which they did in the land of Judah and in the midst of Jerusalem.

44.10 They have not been humbled to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in my law and in my statutes, which I set before you and before your fathers.

44.11 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, to cut off all Judah.

44.12 And I will take the remnant of Judah, which have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there; and they shall all perish in the land of Egypt. they shall fall by the sword, and by the famine. they shall be consumed, both small and great, by the sword, and by the famine. and they shall be for a reproach, and for a curse, and for a reproach.

44.13 And I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with the famine, and with pestilence.

44.14 And there shall be no escape or survivor of the remnant of Judah, which went to sojourn there in the land of Egypt, and shall return to the land of Judah, whither they set their hearts to return to sojourn there. for they shall not return, but shall escape.

44.15 Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, and all the people who dwelt in the land of Egypt in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

44.16 As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of YHVH, we will not listen to you.

44.17 For we have done all that proceedeth out of our mouths, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the midst of Jerusalem, and have sworn bread, and have been well, and have seen no evil.

44.18 And from that time we ceased to make offerings to the queen of heaven, and we poured out our offerings to her, for we lacked nothing, and were consumed by sword and famine.

44.19 And we will burn incense to the queen of heaven, and pour out offerings to her, our people, and we will make offerings to her, and pour out offerings to her.

44.20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, to the men and to the women and to all the people who answered him, saying,

44.21 Is it not the incense that you burned in the cities of Judah and in the midst of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, that you remembered YHVH and came up into his heart?

44.22 And YHVH can no longer bear because of the evil of your doings, because of the abominations which ye have committed. and your land shall be a desolation, and a reproach, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as it is this day.

44.23 Because you have burned incense and sinned against YHVH, and have not obeyed the voice of YHVH, nor his statutes, nor his judgments, nor his testimonies, but have not walked in them, therefore I have called upon you this evil, as it is this day.

44.24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, “Hear the word of YHVH, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt.

44.25 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Ye and your wives, and ye have spoken it with your mouth, and fulfilled it with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows which we have vowed, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her. surely ye shall surely perform your vows, and surely ye shall surely perform your vows.

44.26 Therefore hear the word of YHVH, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt. Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith YHVH, If my name be named any more by the mouth of any man of Judah, saith YHVH GOD liveth in all the land of Egypt.

44.27 Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good. and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall perish by the sword and by the famine, until they be consumed.

44.28 And they that escape the sword shall dwell out of the land of Egypt in the land of Judah, when shall they number it? And all the remnant of Judah, that are come into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know the word, Who shall stand up for me, and for them?

44.29 And this shall be a sign unto you, saith YHVH, that I will visit you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil.

44.30 Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hepher king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life. as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that seek his life.

45.1 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, writing these words in a book at the dictation of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

45.2 Thus saith YHVH God of Israel concerning thee, Baruch.

45.3 You said, "Woe is me! For YHVH has added sorrow to my pain. I am weary with my sighing and find no rest."

45.4 Thus shalt thou say unto him, Thus saith YHVH, Behold, that which I have built I will destroy, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, and the whole land is

45.5 And you shall seek greatness for yourself; do not seek it. For behold, I am bringing evil upon all flesh, says YHVH, and I will give you your life as a spoil in all the places where you will go.

46.1 The word of YHVH that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations

46.2 To Egypt, against the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates at Carchemish, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah.

46.3 Prepare shield and bulwark, and draw near to battle.

46.4 The horses were harnessed, the horsemen mounted, and stood in their caps, they drew their spears, they put on the sirens.

46.5 Why have I seen the Hittites turned back, and their mighty men slain, and fled, and turned not aside round about? saith YHVH.

46.6 Let not the weak flee, nor the mighty escape northward by the river Euphrates. they shall stumble and fall.

46.7 Who is this that shall rise up like the rivers, whose waters shall be troubled?

46.8 Egypt shall rise up as a cloud, and the rivers shall overflow with water. and he shall say, I will go up, I will cover the land, I will make a city desolate, and I will dwell therein.

46.9 The horses came up, the chariots shouted, and the mighty men came out, Cush and Put, holding the shield, and Lud, holding the bow.

46.10 And that day shall be to YHVH GOD of hosts a day of vengeance, to avenge his enemies. and the sword shall devour, and the seven shall be devoured, and his blood shall flow from him. for he hath sacrificed unto YHVH GOD of hosts in the north country by the river Euphrates.

46.11 Go up to Gilead, and take away the virgin daughter of Egypt. in vain have I multiplied healings, thou shalt not go up.

46.12 The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry. for the mighty man has fallen with his might; they have fallen both together.

46.13 The word that YHVH spake unto Jeremiah the prophet, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

46.14 Declare in Egypt, and publish in Medoll, and publish in Neph and in Tahpanhes, saying, Stand firm, and prepare thyself; for the sword devoureth round about thee.

46.15 Why are your warriors swept away? They did not stand, for YHVH has driven them away.

46.16 Many have stumbled, and fallen one against another, saying, Arise, and let us return to our people, and to the land of our nativity, because of the sword of the dove.

46.17 They called Pharaoh king of Egypt, who had passed the time.

46.18 As I live, saith the King, whose name is YHVH of hosts, surely as the fir tree among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

46.19 Make yourself a vessel of exile, O daughter of Egypt, for she will be a refuge for her name, and a refuge from where she dwells.

46.20 A beautiful cart, Egypt, winking from the north, comes, comes.

46.21 Her hirelings also are in her midst like calves of the stall. for they also have turned aside, they have fled together; they have not stood. for the day of their destruction is come upon them, the time of their visitation.

46.22 Her voice will go like a serpent, for they will go with might and main, and in their sleep they will come to her like woodcutters.

46.23 Cut down the forest, says YHVH, for it will not be searched out, because they are more numerous than locusts, and there is no number of them.

46.24 The shame of the daughter of Egypt has given into the hand of the people of the north.

46.25 Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will punish Amon, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, and her gods, and her kings, and Pharaoh, and them that trust in him.

46.26 And they shall be given into the hand of them that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants. and afterward shalt thou dwell as in the days of old, saith YHVH.

46.27 And fear not, O my servant Jacob, and fear not, O Israel. for, behold, I will bring thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of the sea. and Jacob shall return, and be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

46.28 Fear not, O Jacob my servant, saith YHVH. for I am with thee. for I will make a full end of all the nations whither thou hast driven thee. but I will not make a full end of thee. and I will bring thee into judgment, and I will not smite thee.

47.1 The word of YHVH that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh smote Gaza.

47.2 Thus saith YHVH, Behold, waters rise out of the north, and shall be an overflowing torrent, and shall overflow the land, and the city shall be full, and the inhabitants thereof. and man shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall shout.

47.3 At the sound of the clatter of his horsemen's hoofs, at the noise of his chariots, at the multitude of his wheels, the fathers did not turn to the children for weakness of hand.

47.4 For the day is come to spoil all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every remnant of helper. for YHVH hath spoiled the Philistines, the remnant of the island of Caphtor.

47.5 Baldness has come to Gaza, Ashkelon has become like the remnant of their midst. How long will you gather yourselves together?

47.6 Woe to YHVH, how long will you not be silent? Do not be silent, O sword of YHVH, and do not be silent.

47.7 How can you be silent? And YHVH has commanded her to Ashkelon, and to the seashore, there is her destination.

48.1 Concerning Moab, thus says YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel. Woe to Nebo! For shame has been plundered, Kirjathim has been captured, shame has been taken, Misgav and Hatha.

48.2 The glory of Moab is no more in account. think evil of her. go, and let us cut her off from the people, and from the blood of the dead. the sword shall pursue thee.

48.3 A voice of a cry from the mountains, a great destruction,

48.4 Moab is broken; they have uttered a cry of anguish.

48.5 For the moisture shall rise with weeping, and the weeping shall rise. for in the valleys of the mountains the cry of destruction shall be heard.

48.6 Flee for your lives, and be like a desert locust in the wilderness.

48.7 For because you trusted in your works and in your treasures, you will also be taken captive, and Chemosh will go into exile, his priests and his princes together.

48.8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape. and the valley shall be wasted, and the plain shall be destroyed, as YHVH hath spoken.

48.9 Give a sign to Moab, for we will go forth, and her cities will be desolate, without an inhabitant.

48.10 Cursed is he who does the work of YHVH deceitfully, and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.

48.11 Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has been quiet in his youth, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, and has not gone into exile. Therefore his taste remains in him, and his scent does not fade.

48.12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will send unto him smiters, and they shall smite him, and his vessels shall be broken, and their harps shall be broken.

48.13 And Moab shall depart from Chemosh, as the house of Israel departed from Bethel, and their tents.

48.14 How can you say, "We are mighty men, and men of valor for war?"

48.15 The plunder of Moab and its cities is gone up, and the choice of its young men are gone down to the slaughter, says the King, whose name is YHVH of hosts.

48.16 The enemy of Moab is near to come, and his enemy is coming very quickly.

48.17 All around him were astonished, and all who knew his name said, "How is the staff of power broken, the staff of glory!"

48.18 Come down from your glory, sit in thirst, you who dwell in the daughter of Dibon, for the plunderer of Moab has come up against you, you have destroyed your dwellings.

48.19 Stand by the way, and watch, for she dwells in confusion. She has fled to me, and fled. Tell me, what has become of her?

48.20 Moab is ashamed, for he is broken in pieces. My wailing and my cry are heard in Arnon, for Moab is spoiled.

48.21 And judgment shall come upon the land of Mesopotamia, upon the window, and upon the sea, and upon the valley.

48.22 And upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim.

48.23 And upon Kiriathim, and upon Beth-gemul, and upon Beth-maon.

48.24 And upon Kirjath, and upon Basra, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near.

48.25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his seed is broken, saith YHVH.

48.26 They hired him, for he magnified himself against YHVH, and Moab doubted in his knowledge, and he also became a sport.

48.27 And if Israel had not been your game, if she were found among thieves, she would have been shaken by your words.

48.28 The inhabitants of Moab have left the cities and settled in the rock, and have become like a dove nesting in the hollow of a tree.

48.29 We have heard of the pride of Moab, which is very proud. his pride and haughtiness and his haughtiness, and his heart is lifted up.

48.30 I know, saith YHVH, their transgression. and they have not done so in their own eyes.

48.31 Therefore I will cry out against Moab, and against Moab I will cry out against the men of Kir-haresh,

48.32 With the weeping of Jazer I will weep for you, O vine, where you were abandoned; they have passed from sea to sea, O Jazer, they have touched your summer and your harvest; a robber has fallen.

48.33 And joy and gladness are gathered from Carmel, and from the land of Moab, and from the wine of the vineyards. I will not go down, I will not go down, I will not go down, I will not go down.

48.34 From the cry of Heshbon to Elealeh to Jahaz they have uttered their voice, from the chariot of the three-horse chariot to Haranim, for even the waters of the leopards shall be for a curse.

48.35 And I will restore to Moab, saith YHVH, that he shall offer an altar, and burn incense unto his God.

48.36 Therefore my heart for Moab shall mourn like the slain, and my heart for the men of Kir-haresh shall mourn like flutes. therefore the remnant of the workmen shall perish.

48.37 For every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped. upon all hands shall be haircloth, and upon the loins sackcloth.

48.38 On all the housetops of Moab and in its streets there is lamentation, for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which there is no pleasure, says YHVH.

48.39 How hath Hatha lamented, how hath Moab turned his back upon the hill, and Moab is become a laughingstock, and a whore to all that are round about him?

48.40 For thus saith YHVH, Behold, he shall swoop down as an eagle, and spread his wings against Moab.

48.41 The cities are taken, and the strongholds are taken. and the heart of the mighty men of Moab in that day shall be as a dog in distress.

48.42 And Moab shall be destroyed from among his people, because he magnified himself against YHVH.

48.43 Fear and trembling, and fear and trembling, O inhabitant of Moab, saith YHVH.

48.44 He that fleeeth from the fear shall fall into the pit, and he that riseth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare. for I will bring upon Moab the year of their visitation, saith YHVH.

48.45 In the shadow of the judgment they stood by the power of miracles. for a fire went out from the judgment, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and devoured the corner of Moab, and the crown of the children of Sheon.

48.46 Woe to you, Moab, you are destroyed, the people of Chemosh, for your sons have been taken captive and your daughters into captivity.

48.47 And I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days, saith YHVH. thus shall the judgment of Moab be.

49.1 Concerning the children of Ammon, thus saith YHVH; Israel hath no children; if he have no heir, why should their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?

49.2 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will cause the voice of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and the hill shall be desolate, and her daughters shall be burned with fire. and Israel shall inherit his inheritance, saith YHVH.

49.3 The lamentations of reckoning, because she hath robbed many with her cry, the daughters of many have girded themselves with sackcloth, they have lamented, and have wandered about in the hedges. for their king shall go into captivity, his priests and his princes together.

49.4 Why do you exult in the valleys? Your valley overflows, O naughty daughter. Promise in Azarias, who will come to me?

49.5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon you, saith YHVH GOD of hosts, from all around you. and ye shall be driven every man before his own face, and there shall be no gathering to go.

49.6 And afterward I will bring back the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith YHVH.

49.7 Concerning Edom, thus says YHVH of hosts. Is there no more wisdom in Yemen? Counsel is lost from the sons of men; their wisdom is gone.

49.8 Flee, turn back, dwell deep, dwell in Dedan. for I have brought upon Esau the day of my visitation.

49.9 If the oppressors come upon you, they will not leave you; if thieves in the night destroy you,

49.10 For I have uncovered Esau, I have discovered his secrets, and Hevah shall not be able to rob his seed, his brothers, and his neighbors, and he shall not be.

49.11 I will keep you alive, and your widows will trust in me.

49.12 For thus saith YHVH; Behold, they whose right it was to drink the cup shall drink; and thou shalt be clean, thou shalt not be clean. but thou shalt drink.

49.13 For by myself I have sworn, saith YHVH, that her name shall be a reproach, a sword, and a curse, and trouble; and all her cities shall be perpetual desolations.

49.14 I have heard a rumor from YHVH, and an ambassador from the nations is sent. they are gathered together, and come against her, and rise up for battle.

49.15 For behold, I have made you small among the nations, despised among men.

49.16 Your monstrosity has brought you up, the wickedness of your heart, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, seize the height of the hill; for you have soared as the eagle, you have flown away from there, I will bring you down, says YHVH.

49.17 And Edom shall be for her name. every one that passeth by her shall be ashamed, and he shall hiss at all her plagues.

49.18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, saith YHVH, No man shall dwell there, neither shall any man dwell therein.

49.19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the sides of the Jordan against the strong valley. for I will make it desolate, I will make it desolate. and who is he that is worthy to be called unto me? for who is like unto me? and who can make me endure? and who is this evil that can stand before me?

49.20 Therefore hear the counsel of YHVH, which he hath taken against Edom, and his devices, which he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Yemen. whether the young of the flock shall not be scattered, whether he shall not make them growl.

49.21 At the sound of the thunder the earth trembled, its voice was heard in the Red Sea.

49.22 Behold, he shall mount up as an eagle, and shall spread his wings over trouble. and the heart of the mighty men of Edom in that day shall be as a dog in trouble.

49.23 Damascus is ashamed, Hamath and Arpad are ashamed, for they have heard evil tidings; they are drowned in the sea of trouble, they cannot be quiet.

49.24 The flock of Damascus turned to flee, and trembling seized her, and she took hold of cords, as a woman in labor.

49.25 How did the city of praise not leave Kiryat Mushoshi?

49.26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith YHVH of hosts.

49.27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.

49.28 Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck, thus says YHVH. Arise, go up to Kedar, and spoil the children of old.

49.29 Their tents and their flocks they shall take, their tents and all their vessels and their camels they shall carry away, and they shall call for a habitation round about them.

49.30 Flee, flee greatly, dwell deep, dwell ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith YHVH. for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath devised a device against you.

49.31 Arise, go up unto a nation at peace, that dwelleth securely, saith YHVH. they shall dwell alone, having neither doors nor bars.

49.32 And their camels shall be a spoil, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil, and the sables of every wind shall be cut off. and I will bring their hand upon them from all sides, saith YHVH.

49.33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling place for jackals, a desolation for ever. no man shall dwell there, neither shall any man dwell therein.

49.34 The word of YHVH which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,

49.35 Thus saith YHVH of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.

49.36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and the savours of all these things. and the nation that cometh not thither shall not be cut off for ever.

49.37 And I will make Elam desolate before their enemies, and before them that seek their life. and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith YHVH; and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.

49.38 And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith YHVH.

49.39 And it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the house of Elam, saith YHVH.

50.1 The word that YHVH spake against Babylon, and against the land of the Chaldeans, by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.

50.2 Declare among the nations, and make them hear, and shew them a sign. make them hear, and be not consumed. they say, Babylon is taken, she is ashamed, she is ashamed of thy enemies. her nerves are ashamed, her bones are broken.

50.3 For a nation from the north shall come up against her, and shall lay her land waste, and none shall dwell therein. both man and beast shall be driven away.

50.4 In those days, and at that time, saith YHVH, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping; they shall go and seek YHVH their God.

50.5 They shall ask the way to Zion, behold, their faces are come, and they shall walk unto YHVH, an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.

50.6 My people were lost sheep, their companions were scattered, the mountains were mischievous, they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their place.

50.7 All their enemies will be devoured, and their oppressors will say, "We are not guilty." Instead of their sin against YHVH, righteousness and the hope of their fathers, YHVH, will be revealed.

50.8 They were carried away out of Babylon, and out of the land of the Chaldeans, and were as the calves of the stalls before the flock.

50.9 For, behold, I will raise up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country, and they shall set themselves in array against her. from thence shalt thou take her half, as a mighty man of valour, and she shall not return empty.

50.10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil. all her spoils shall be satisfied, saith YHVH.

50.11 For you will be glad and rejoice, O my inheritance, for you will leap like a wild ox and sing like a ram.

50.12 Your mother is greatly ashamed, she who bore you is a desert, a desert and a wilderness. Behold, the end of the nations is a wilderness.

50.13 Because of the wrath of YHVH she shall not return, but shall be utterly desolate. all that passeth over Babylon shall be desolate, and shall hiss at all her plagues.

50.14 Set against Babylon round about all the ways, a bow is drawn against her. spare not the arrow. for she hath sinned against YHVH.

50.15 They shouted against her all around, she gave her hand, her pillars fell, her walls were thrown down, for it is the vengeance of YHVH. They took vengeance on her as she has done, they did to her.

50.16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and put the sickle in the time of harvest, because of the sword of the dove. they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall seek every one to his own land.

50.17 Israel is a scattered sheep, the lions have driven away the first, the king of Assyria has devoured it, and this last one is Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon himself.

50.18 Therefore thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I punished the king of Assyria.

50.19 And I will bring Israel again to Noho, and the pasture of Carmel, and Bashan, and mount Ephraim, and Gilead, shall satisfy his soul.

50.20 In those days, and at that time, saith YHVH, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sin of Judah, and there shall be none. for I will pardon whom I will spare.

50.21 Go up against the land of Marathaim, and against the inhabitants of Pekod, a sword and a desolation after them, saith YHVH, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

50.22 A sound of war in the land, and great destruction.

50.23 How is the whole earth broken and broken with a hammer? How is Babylon become a name among the nations?

50.24 I have snared you, and you have also been taken captive in Babylon, and you did not know it; you are also taken, because you have provoked YHVH.

50.25 YHVH hath opened his treasure, and brought forth the vessels of his wrath. for this is the work of YHVH GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

50.26 They came to her from the end, they opened her mouth, she was scattered like a heap, and they plundered her, there was no remnant left.

50.27 All her fruit is destroyed; they are brought down to the slaughter. woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.

50.28 The voice of them that flee from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of YHVH our God, the vengeance of his temple.

50.29 Make a noise against Babylon, all the ways of the bow, encamp against her round about. let her not escape. render unto her according to her work. according to all that she hath done, do unto her. for she hath trespassed against YHVH, against the Holy One of Israel.

50.30 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith YHVH.

50.31 Behold, I am against you, saith YHVH GOD of hosts. for your day is come, the time that I will visit you.

50.32 And wickedness shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up. and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

50.33 Thus saith YHVH, The armies of the oppressed, the children of Israel and the children of Judah together, and all their captivity, which have held them from us, that we may fight against them.

50.34 YHVH of hosts hath strengthened his name, he shall contend with their contention, that he may quiet the land, and make the inhabitants of Babylon angry.

50.35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith YHVH, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

50.36 A sword against the cloth, and a sword against her mighty men, and they shall cut it down.

50.37 A sword against her horses, and against her chariots, and against all the plain that is in the midst of her. and the women shall have a sword against her treasures, and take the spoil.

50.38 A sword shall be upon her waters, and they shall be dried up. for it is a land of idols, and in the days of terror they shall boast themselves.

50.39 Therefore the fleets of the islands shall dwell therein, and the daughters of Jahannam shall dwell therein. it shall not be inhabited for ever, neither shall it dwell from generation to generation.

50.40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, saith YHVH; no man shall dwell there, neither shall any man dwell therein.

50.41 Behold, a people cometh from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be stirred up from the sides of the earth.

50.42 They shall lay hold on bow and spear, and shall not spare. their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, set in array like a man for war against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

50.43 The king of Babylon heard their report, and his hands were slack; trouble seized him with strength, like a woman in labor.

50.44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the sides of the Jordan against the valley of Ethan. for I have made them desolate, and I will destroy their land from before them. and who is he that is chosen? for who is like unto me? and who will appoint me? and who is this evil that shall stand before me?

50.45 Therefore hear the counsel of YHVH, which he hath taken against Babylon, and his purposes, which he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans. whether the young of the flock shall not be scattered, whether he shall not set a snare upon them.

50.46 At the sound of Babylon being taken, the earth trembles, and a cry is heard among the nations.

51.1 Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will raise up an alarm against Babylon, and let not my heart be faint. a destroying wind shall arise.

51.2 And I will send strangers to Babylon, and they shall besiege her land. for they are upon her round about in the day of evil.

51.3 Do not tread down the path, do not tread down the path with your bow, and do not let your swords be lifted up, and do not show mercy to her chosen ones; destroy all her army.

51.4 And the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and the slain in the streets thereof.

51.5 For Israel and Judah are not widowed from their God, from YHVH of hosts; for their land is full of guilt from the Holy One of Israel.

51.6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul. be not in the time of vengeance. for it is the time of YHVH's vengeance; he will render it.

51.7 The golden cup of Babylon is in the hand of YHVH, making all the earth drunken. The nations drank from it; therefore the nations will be glad.

51.8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and broken. wail for her. take a sickle for her pain. perhaps she will be healed.

51.9 We have healed Babylon, and she is not healed. forsake her, and let us go every man to his own country. for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up unto the skies.

51.10 YHVH hath brought forth our righteousness. come, and let the work of YHVH our God be declared in Zion.

51.11 The arrows are ready, the signs are full. YHVH hath stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes. for his purpose is against Babylon to destroy it. for the vengeance of YHVH is the vengeance of his temple.

51.12 They have set up a watch against the wall of Babylon, they have set up a watch, they have prepared ambushes. for YHVH hath both devised and done that which he spake against the inhabitants of Babylon.

51.13 I dwell by many waters, full of treasures. thy judgment is come, thou art true in thy sight.

51.14 YHVH of hosts hath sworn by himself, that if I had filled thee with men, as with a rod, and had answered thee with a shout,

51.15 He made the earth by his power, he established the world by his wisdom and understanding, he stretched out the heavens.

51.16 At his voice he gave forth a multitude of waters in the heavens, and lightnings came up from the end of the earth, and made rain, and the wind came forth out of his treasures.

51.17 Every man is ignorant of knowledge, every idol is a disgrace, for their idols are falsehood, and there is no spirit in them.

51.18 They are vanity, a work of illusion; in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

51.19 Not so shall the portion of Jacob be. for he is the maker of all things. and the tribe of his inheritance is YHVH of hosts, his name.

51.20 You are a weapon of war for me, and with you I will break nations in pieces, and with you I will destroy kingdoms.

51.21 And I will break in pieces in thee the horse and his rider, and I will break in pieces in thee the chariot and his rider.

51.22 And I will dash in pieces in thee man and woman; and I will dash in pieces in thee old man and youth; and I will dash in pieces in thee young man and virgin.

51.23 And I will break in thee the wicked and his flock, and I will break in thee the stranger and the strong, and I will break in thee the few and the few.

51.24 And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion before your eyes, saith YHVH.

51.25 Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith YHVH, which destroyeth the whole earth. and I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and make thee a burning mountain.

51.26 And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations. for thou shalt be a perpetual desolation, saith YHVH.

51.27 They have wrought wonders in the land, they have blown the trumpet among the nations, they have sanctified it, the nations have made it known from the kingdoms of Ararat, Manasseh and Ashkenaz, they have appointed a falconer over it, they have brought up a horse that trodden on the ground.

51.28 The nations shall be sanctified against her, the kings of Media, her princes, and all her governors, and all the land of her dominion.

51.29 And the earth trembled, and began to tremble. for the purposes of YHVH are come forth against Babylon, to destroy the land of Babylon from without an inhabitant.

51.30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased to fight; they have sat in their strongholds; they have drunk their strength; they have become women; they have set fire to her palaces; her bars are broken.

51.31 He who runs to meet the runner will run and tell the king of Babylon that his city is captured from the edge of the sea.

51.32 And the passages were seized, and the lakes were burned with fire, and the men of war were terrified.

51.33 For thus saith YHVH of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshingfloor, the time of her threshing is yet a little while, and the time of her harvest is come.

51.34 We ate from it Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, we presented an empty vessel, we swallowed like a crocodile full of lees, we slurped up delicacies.

51.35 Thou shalt say, O inhabitant of Zion, I will be thy servant. and thou shalt say, O inhabitant of the Chaldeans, O Jerusalem.

51.36 Therefore thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee, and will make the sea waste, and make her fountain desolate.

51.37 And Babylon shall be a haunt of jackals, a dwelling place for jackals, and it shall hiss from where there is no inhabitant.

51.38 Together like villages, his youth will roar like young lions.

51.39 I will make their feasts with their heat, and make them drunk, that they may be drunken, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith YHVH.

51.40 We have brought down the slaughtering places like rams with their young.

51.41 How is Sheshach taken, and the glory of the whole earth taken? How is Babylon become a name among the nations?

51.42 The sea has come up against Babylon with its many waves, covering her.

51.43 Her cities were called a wasteland, and a wasteland, a land where no man dwelleth, neither doth any man pass through them.

51.44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth his prey out of his mouth; and the nations shall no more flow to him. the wall of Babylon also shall fall.

51.45 Go out of her, my people, and deliver every man his soul from the fierce anger of YHVH.

51.46 And lest your heart faint, and ye fear for the rumor that shall be heard in the land, and it cometh one year of the rumor, and another year of the rumor, and a famine in the land, and proverb upon proverb.

51.47 Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will punish the idols of Babylon, and all her land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

51.48 And the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, shall cry out against Babylon. for out of the north shall the spoilers come unto her, saith YHVH.

51.49 To Babylon also shall fall the slain of Israel. to Babylon also shall fall the slain of all the earth.

51.50 Those who escape the sword, go, do not stand still; remember YHVH from afar, and let Jerusalem come to your mind.

51.51 We are confounded, because we have heard reproach. shame hath covered our faces. for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the house of YHVH.

51.52 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will punish the Philistines, and in all her land the slain shall groan.

51.53 For though Babylon ascend to the heavens, and Gaza be fortified on high, yet shall spoilers come unto her, saith YHVH.

51.54 A voice of cry from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans.

51.55 For YHVH hath spoiled Babylon, and the great voice is taken away from her. and their waves roared like many waters. he made the noise of their voice to roar.

51.56 For a spoiler is come upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken. for YHVH will repay in full the recompense of his servants.

51.57 And I will hire her princes, and her wise men, and her captains, and her mighty men. and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is YHVH of hosts.

51.58 Thus saith YHVH, The armies of Babylon the great shall be shaken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire. and the people shall be consumed with a whirlwind, and the nations with a whirlwind of fire, and they shall flee away.

51.59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year of his reign, and Seraiah the minister of rest.

51.60 And Jeremiah wrote in one book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

51.61 And Jeremiah said unto Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, and seest and readest all these words,

51.62 And you said, O LORD, you have spoken against this place to cut it down, that neither man nor beast shall dwell therein, but it shall be a perpetual desolation.

51.63 And when you have finished reading this book, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates.

51.64 And you said, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again, because of the evil that I will bring upon her. and the words of Jeremiah shall be fulfilled even unto this day.

52.1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamital, the daughter of Jeremiah of Laban.

52.2 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

52.3 For it was against YHVH in Jerusalem and Judah, until he cast them out from his presence, and Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

52.4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it, and built a siege ramp against it round about.

52.5 And the city was besieged until the twentieth year of king Zedekiah.

52.6 In the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land.

52.7 And the city shall be broken up, and all the men of war shall flee, and go out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the trees, which is by the king's garden. and the Chaldeans shall be against the city round about, and shall go by the way of the plain.

52.8 And the Chaldean army pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. and all his army was scattered from before him.

52.9 And they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he gave him judgment.

52.10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and all the princes of Judah he slew in Rabbah.

52.11 And Zedekiah put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters, and the king of Babylon brought him to Babylon, and put him in the house of the guard until the day of his death.

52.12 And in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard to the king of Babylon to Jerusalem.

52.13 And he burned the house of YHVH, and the king's house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the house of the great man burned he with fire.

52.14 And all the fortresses of Jerusalem round about, even all the army of the Chaldeans, which are the chief of the slaughterers, shall be broken.

52.15 And Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive the remnant of the people, and the rest of the people that remained in the city, and the castaways that fell away to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the Amon.

52.16 And of the remnant of the land Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left over the vineyards and the winepresses.

52.17 And the pillars of brass that were in the house of YHVH, and the bases, and the brasen sea that was in the house of YHVH, did the Chaldeans break in pieces, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon.

52.18 And the shovels, and the basins, and the snuffers, and the sprinkling bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass wherewith they ministered, they took away.

52.19 And the bowls, and the censers, and the sprinkling bowls, and the lamps, and the spoons, and the basins, that were of gold, and that of silver, the chief of the cooks took away.

52.20 The pillars were two, one sea, and twelve oxen, under the bases which king Solomon had made for the house of YHVH. the brass of all these vessels was without weight.

52.21 And the pillars were eighteen cubits high, one pillar, and a line twelve cubits round about, and the thickness of it was four fingers of brass.

52.22 And you shall make upon it a capital of brass, and the height of the one capital shall be five cubits, with a network and pomegranates upon the capital round about, all of brass. and likewise for the second pillar, and pomegranates.

52.23 And there were ninety and six pomegranates. all the pomegranates were a hundred on the lattice all around.

52.24 And the chief of the priests took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door.

52.25 And he took out of the city one of the eunuchs who was in charge of the men of war, and seven men who were the king's servants who were found in the city, and the book of the captain of the host, which had charge of the people of the land, and threescore men of the people of the land who were found in the city.

52.26 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to Riblah king of Babylon.

52.27 And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Rabbah in the land of Hamath. and Judah was removed out of his land.

52.28 This is the people whom Nebuchadnezzar carried away captive in the seventh year of the Jews, three thousand and twenty-three.

52.29 In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar, in Jerusalem, eight hundred and thirty-two souls

52.30 In the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred forty and five souls; all the souls were four thousand and six hundred.

52.32 And he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon.

52.33 And he changed his prison garments, and did eat bread before him continually all the days of his life.

52.34 And his provision was a continual provision, a provision given him of the king of Babylon, day by day until the day of his death, all the days of his life.
