Hosea
1.1 The word of YHVH that came to Hosea the son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
1.2 The word of YHVH began by Hosea. and YHVH said unto Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms, and children of whoredoms. for the land committeth whoredom, from following YHVH.
1.3 And he went and took Gamar the daughter of Diblam, and she conceived and bore him a son.
1.4 And YHVH said unto him, Call his name Jezreel. for yet a little while, and I will punish the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will restore the kingdom of the house of Israel.
1.5 And it came to pass on that day, that I broke the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.
1.6 And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. and he said unto him, Call her name, I will not have compassion any more upon the house of Israel. for I will bear a grudge against them.
1.7 And I will have mercy on the house of Judah, and they shall be saved by YHVH their God. and I will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by war, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.
1.8 And she that had not pitied conceived, and bare a son.
1.9 And he said, Call his name, Not My People. for ye are not my people, and I will not be yours.
2.1 And the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered. and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there shall it be said unto them, Ye are the children of the living God.
2.2 And the children of Judah and the children of Israel were gathered together, and appointed themselves one head, and went up out of the land. for great was the day of Jezreel.
2.3 Say to your brothers, My people, and to your sisters, My mercy.
2.4 Plead with your mother, plead with her, for she is not my wife, and I am not your wife. Put away her whoredoms from her face, and her breasts from between her breasts.
2.5 Lest I strip her naked, and make her a day of mourning, and make her like a wilderness, and make her drink as a parched land, and slay her with thirst.
2.6 And I will not have mercy on her children, for they are the children of whores.
2.7 For their mother has played the harlot, she has shamed their mother, for she said, I will go after my lover; give me my bread and my water, my wool and my fat and my drink.
2.8 Therefore, behold, I will make your way with pots, and I will hedge up its hedge, so that you will not find its paths.
2.9 And she pursued her lovers, and overtook them not; and she sought them, and found them not. and she said, I will go and return to my first husband; for it was better for me then than now.
2.10 And she knew not that I gave her the corn, and the wine, and the oil, and multiplied her silver, and gold, which they made for Baal.
2.11 Therefore I will return, and take my corn in its season, and my inheritance in its season. and I will save my wool, and my fleece to cover her nakedness.
2.12 And now I will uncover her carcase in the sight of her lovers, and no one shall deliver her out of my hand.
2.13 And I will restore every six months the new feast and the sabbath and all its appointed times.
2.14 And I will plant the vine and the fig tree, which I said, I will give them to you, which my lovers have given me, and I will plant them in the forest, and the beasts of the field will eat them.
2.15 And I will visit upon her the days of the Baalim, wherein she burned incense unto them, and she waxed wroth, and went after her lovers, and forgot me, saith YHVH.
2.16 Therefore, behold, I will entice her, and lead her into the wilderness, and speak to her heart.
2.17 And I gave her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor unto Petah Tikvah; and she shall be there as in the days of her youth, and as now she came up out of the land of Egypt.
2.18 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith YHVH, that thou shalt call me my husband, and shalt call me no more my husband.
2.19 And I will take away the names of the Baalim from her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.
2.20 And I will make a covenant for them in that day with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the air, and with the creeping things of the earth. and I will break the bow, and the sword, and war, out of the earth, and will make them lie down in safety.
2.21 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
2.22 And I will betroth you to me in faith, and you shall know YHVH.
2.23 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith YHVH, that I will answer the heavens, and they shall answer the earth.
2.24 And the land shall afflict the corn, and the wine, and the oil. and they shall afflict Jezreel.
2.25 And I will sow them for me in the land, and I will have mercy on them, and I will not have mercy on them; and I will say, Thou art my people, and not my people. and he shall say, My God.
3.1 And YHVH said unto me, Go no more, love a woman that loveth evil and committeth adultery, as YHVH loveth the children of Israel, and they have turned their faces unto other gods, and I love my vines.
3.2 And I will hire me for fifteen pieces of silver, and clay for gates, and for casting gates.
3.3 And he said unto her, Thou shalt abide with me many days. thou shalt not play the harlot, nor be a man's wife. and I will also be unto thee.
3.4 For the children of Israel dwelt many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without pillar, and without ephod, and without teraphim.
3.5 Then the children of Israel returned, and sought YHVH their God, and David their king. and they feared YHVH, and his goodness in the latter days.
4.1 Hear the word of YHVH, O children of Israel. for YHVH hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. for there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
4.2 These are the ones who have committed adultery, murder, theft, and adultery, and have mixed blood with blood.
4.3 Therefore the land shall mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall mourn. the beasts of the field, and the fowls of the air, and the fish of the sea also shall be gathered together.
4.4 But let no man strive, and let no man contend with you, and with your people, as with the quarreling of a priest.
4.5 And you have stumbled today, and a prophet has also stumbled with you in the night, and I have compared you to your mother.
4.6 My people are silent without knowledge, for you have rejected knowledge, and I have rejected you as my priest, and you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
4.7 Like many of them, so their honor has sinned against me, with the shame of a prince.
4.8 They shall eat the transgression of my people, and bear their soul in their iniquity.
4.9 And he shall be as a people for a priest. and I will punish him for his ways, and according to his doings will I recompense him.
4.10 And they shall eat, and not be satisfied; they shall devour, and not be satisfied. because they have forsaken YHVH to preserve them.
4.11 Whoredom, wine, and strong drink shall take away the heart.
4.12 My people shall ask of their counsel, and their staff shall declare unto them. for the spirit of whoredoms hath led them astray, and they have committed whoredom under their gods.
4.13 They shall sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars. and these, because the shade is good, therefore shall your daughters commit whoredom, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
4.14 I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery; for they shall be separated with whores, and shall sacrifice with the holy things, and a people that understandeth not shall behold them.
4.15 If you, O Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah be guilty, and do not enter into Gilgal, and do not go up to the house of On, and do not swear, for YHVH lives.
4.16 For the wicked have repented, the wicked of Israel. now shall YHVH roar like a lamb in the open field.
4.17 The bundle of nerves of Ephraim, let him rest.
4.18 Sir Sabam fornication fornication love fornication disgrace fornication
4.19 The wind has scattered it with its wings, and their altars have dried up.
5.1 Hear this, O priests, and give ear, O house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king. for the judgment is upon you. for ye have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread out upon Tabor.
5.2 And the slaughter of the wicked has deepened, and I will deliver them all.
5.3 I know that Ephraim and Israel are not consumed by me; for now Ephraim has committed fornication, Israel has become defiled.
5.4 Their deeds will not allow them to return to their God, for the spirit of whoredoms is within them, and they do not know YHVH.
5.5 And the mighty one of Israel shall answer him to his face. and Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in their iniquity, as Judah also shall stumble among them.
5.6 With their flocks and herds they will go to seek YHVH, but they will not find deliverance from them.
5.7 They have betrayed YHVH, for they have begotten strange children; now a new man shall eat up their portion.
5.8 Blow the trumpet on the hill, the cornet on the plain, shout, O house of On, after you, Benjamin.
5.9 Ephraim shall be for a day of rebuke among the tribes of Israel. I have declared faithfully.
5.10 The princes of Judah were like trespassers; I will pour out my wrath on them like water.
5.11 The oppressed of Ephraim are cut off in judgment, because he followed after the commandment.
5.12 And I am as moth to Ephraim, and as rottenness to the house of Judah.
5.13 And Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his bed. and Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to king Jeroboam. and he could not heal you, neither would he take of you any balm.
5.14 For I am like a plague to Ephraim, and like a plague to the house of Judah, I will devour and carry away, and there shall be none to deliver.
5.15 I will go and return to my place, until they have sinned and sought my face in their trouble, and have made me black.
6.1 Come, let us return to YHVH, for he has torn, and he will heal us, and he will bind us up.
6.2 We shall live forever; on the third day we shall rise again, and we shall live before him.
6.3 And we know that we are persecuted to know YHVH, as the morning is ready to rise, and he will come to us like rain, like the dew that covers the earth.
6.4 What shall I do unto thee, O Ephraim? what shall I do unto thee, O Judah? and your mercy is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that departeth away in the evening.
6.5 Therefore I have hewn down the prophets, and have slain them with the words of my mouth. and thy judgments shall be a light.
6.6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice. and the knowledge of God exalteth.
6.7 And they, like a man, have transgressed the covenant, there they have betrayed me.
6.8 Gilead, Kirjath P'ale-on, Aqaba of blood
6.9 And as for the men of the army, the company of priests, they shall slay some of them, because they have committed lewdness.
6.10 In the house of Israel I have seen her whoredoms, there is a harlotry among Ephraim, Israel is defiled.
6.11 Judah also shall reap for thee, when I shall return, the return of my people.
7.1 As for me, I will heal Israel, and the iniquity of Ephraim and the wickedness of Samaria will be revealed, for they have dealt falsely, and a thief will come, a band of robbers will raid outside.
7.2 And let them not say in their heart, I remember all their wickedness. now their doings are turned back before my face.
7.3 The king rejoices at their misfortune, and the princes rejoice at their disgrace.
7.4 They all bake adulteries like an oven burning with fire, they sit in a city kneading dough until it is leavened.
7.5 On the day of our king, they began to sing the wrath of wine; his hand stretched out the spies.
7.6 For their heart is like an oven, they lie in wait all night long; their anger burns like a blazing fire.
7.7 They shall all be hot as an oven, and shall devour their judges. all their kings shall fall. none shall call upon me among them.
7.8 Ephraim will be mixed with the nations; Ephraim will be a glutton without a turn.
7.9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knew it not. also the enemy hath cast him down, and he knew it not.
7.10 And the princes of Israel answered him, and they returned not unto YHVH their God, nor sought him for all this.
7.11 And Ephraim is like a deceived dove; there is no heart in Egypt; they call upon Assyria, they go.
7.12 When they go, I will spread my net over them like the birds of the air; I will bring them down, I will bind them, as I hear their testimony.
7.13 Woe to them, for they have wandered from me! Woe to them! for they have transgressed against me, and I will avenge them, and they have spoken lies against me.
7.14 And they did not cry out to me in their hearts, but howled upon their beds, for they dwell in grain and wine, they are consumed by me.
7.15 And I will cut off their strength, and they will think evil of me.
7.16 They shall not return, they shall be as a deceitful bow. their princes shall fall by the sword, because of the wrath of their tongue, this is their shame in the land of Egypt.
8.1 Do not swoop down like an eagle on the house of YHVH, because they have transgressed my covenant and transgressed my law.
8.2 To me shall they cry, O God, I know thee, O Israel.
8.3 Israel has abandoned good, an enemy will pursue them.
8.4 They have reigned, and not of me they have sung, and I know not their silver and their gold; they have made them strong, that they may be cut off.
8.5 Samaria has abandoned your chariot; my anger is kindled against them. How long will it be before they can be cleansed?
8.6 For he is of Israel, and he is a workman, he is not God. for the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
8.7 For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. it hath no plant, but it maketh flour. perhaps it maketh strange things, and they devour it.
8.8 Israel is swallowed up; now they are among the nations as a vessel in which there is no pleasure.
8.9 For they have gone up to Assyria, a wilderness, and a wilderness. Ephraim hath given them lovers.
8.10 Even though they give to the nations, now I will gather them, and they will begin to bear a little of the burden of the king of princes.
8.11 For Ephraim hath many altars for sin, he hath many altars for sin.
8.12 I will write to him who has learned my law, he is considered as a stranger.
8.13 The sacrifices of the wicked shall offer flesh, and they shall eat; YHVH will not accept them. now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins. they shall return to Egypt.
8.14 And Israel forgot his Maker, and built temples. and Judah multiplied cities in distress. and I sent a fire upon his cities, and it devoured his palaces.
9.1 O Israel, do not rejoice in the day of judgment like the nations, for you have gone astray from your God, and have loved your God more than all the grain.
9.2 The grain and winepress will not roar, and the new wine will fail in it.
9.3 They shall not dwell in the land of YHVH. but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and shall eat uncleanness in Assyria.
9.4 They shall not pour out wine to YHVH, nor shall they make offerings to him; their sacrifices shall be as the bread of their strength. all that eat thereof shall be defiled. for they shall not come into the house of YHVH to eat their bread.
9.5 What will you do on the appointed day and on the day of the feast of YHVH?
9.6 For behold, they are gone out of the land of Egypt. thou shalt gather them together, thou shalt bury them. they shall be gathered together, and their silver shall be a gift unto Chemosh. the fire shall be written in their tents.
9.7 The days of reckoning have come, the days of consummation have come, Israel shall know. Woe to the prophet, the man of spirit, for the multitude of thy iniquity, and the multitude of thy abominations.
9.8 Ephraim shall be a prophet with his God, a prophet of tin, in all his ways, from the house of his God.
9.9 They have made their valleys deep, as in the days of the hill. he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.
9.10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness, like the firstfruits in the fig tree at the beginning. I saw your fathers, who went to Baal Peor and were circumcised in Lebash, and became abominable like their lovers.
9.11 Ephraim shall fly away like a bird. their glory from the womb, and their beauty from the womb.
9.12 For if they raise their children and teach them more than a man, woe to them also, and their cattle from them!
9.13 When I saw Ephraim planted in Tyre, and Ephraim brought forth to the slaughter of his children,
9.14 Give them, O Lord, what will you give? Give them a wise womb and shrunken demons.
9.15 All their evil is in Gilgal; for there they are hated for the evil of their doings. I will drive them out of my house; I will not gather their love. All their princes are traitors.
9.16 He struck Ephraim, who had written, "The fruit is dry, but they do not bear it, because they are children, and the sweetness of their womb is dead."
9.17 My God will abhor them, because they did not listen to him, and they will be wanderers among the nations.
10.1 Israel is a fruitful vine, and its fruit is abundant. It is abundant in its fruit. It is abundant in its altars. It is good for its land. They have made good monuments.
10.2 Their hearts are divided, now they will be guilty. He will tear down their altars and plunder their tombs.
10.3 For now they will say, We have no king, because we fear not YHVH. and what can a king do for us?
10.4 They have spoken vain things, they have made a covenant, and have flourished like the head of the court against Ptolemy Shaddai.
10.5 The chariots of Beth-on shall dwell in the midst of Samaria. for her people shall mourn for her, and her enemies shall be ashamed of her. for she is gone out of the midst of them.
10.6 Ephraim will take him also to Assyria, the jubilee offering to king Jeroboam every year, and Israel will be ashamed of his counsel.
10.7 It seems that Maron is a queen like foam on the surface of the water.
10.8 And they shall be consumed in the death of the iniquity of Israel. thorns and thistles shall come up upon their altars. and they shall say unto the mountains, Fall upon us, and to the hills, Fall upon us.
10.9 From the days of the hill, the sin of Israel, there they stood, you will not overtake them on the hill, the battle against the sons of Alvah.
10.10 When I come, I will bind them, and gather nations against them, binding them for their two eyes.
10.11 And Ephraim is a heifer taught to thresh, and I have passed over the good of her neck. I will gather Ephraim, and Judah shall plow. Jacob shall plunder him.
10.12 Sow for yourselves in righteousness, reap in grace, sow for yourselves in righteousness, and seek YHVH until he comes and brings you righteousness.
10.13 You have plowed wickedness, you have reaped the fruit of the vine, you have eaten the fruit of the vine, because you trusted in your way in the multitude of your mighty ones.
10.14 And a tumult shall come upon thy people, and all thy servants shall be as a demon as the house of Arbaal in the day of battle, a mother shall be troubled over her children.
10.15 Thus did Bethel do unto you for your wickedness, in the morning, as it were, the king of Israel.
11.1 For Israel was a child, and I loved him. and out of Egypt I called my son.
11.2 They called them, and went before them. they sacrificed to idols, and burned incense to idols.
11.3 And I taught Ephraim, he took them upon his arms, and they knew not that I healed them.
11.4 I will bind you with the cords of a man, with the bands of love, and I will be to them as one who lifts up a leaf on their cheeks, and I will eat it slowly.
11.5 He shall not return to the land of Egypt, and Assyria shall be his king. for they refused to return.
11.6 And the sword shall be in his cities, and shall consume his blood, and shall devour their counsels.
11.7 And my people shall be lifted up to my charge, and they shall call upon God on high together, and he shall not be lifted up.
11.8 How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I give you up, Israel? How can I make you like the ground? I will make you like a deer. My heart is turned against me. My sorrows are withered together.
11.9 I will not execute the fierceness of my anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim. for I am God, and there is none holy among you. neither will I enter into the city.
11.10 They shall walk after YHVH as a lion roaring. for he shall roar, and the children of the sea shall be afraid.
11.11 They shall be afraid as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria, and they shall sit in their houses, saith YHVH.
12.1 I am surrounded by the pride of Ephraim, and by the deceit of the house of Israel and Judah, until I come down with God, and with the faithful people of the saints.
12.2 Ephraim is a wicked spirit, and pursueth the east all the day long. he multiplyeth lies and deceit. and they shall make a covenant with Assyria, and oil for Egypt a jubilee.
12.3 And YHVH hath a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways, and according to his doings. he will repay him.
12.4 In the womb he followed his brother, and in his strength he sang praises to God.
12.5 And he went to the angel, and wept bitterly, and besought him, saying, Let us go to the house of God, and there speak with us.
12.6 And YHVH God of hosts, YHVH, remember him.
12.7 And you, O God, shall return to your God, keeping mercy and justice, and hoping in your God always.
12.8 Canaan has deceitful scales in his hand, he loves to oppress.
12.9 And Ephraim said, "Even though I am rich, I have found iniquity in myself; in all my affliction they will not find in me the iniquity of my sin."
12.10 And I am YHVH thy God from the land of Egypt, until I have made thee dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the appointed season.
12.11 And I spoke by the prophets, and I multiplied visions, and in the hand of the prophets was the land.
12.12 If Gilead is wicked, but in vain, there are bulls in Gilgal, their altars also are like waves on the banks of the rivers of Shedda.
12.13 And Jacob fled into the field of Aram, and Israel served a wife, and she bore him a son.
12.14 And by a prophet YHVH brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
12.15 Ephraim provoked the signs, and his blood shall be sprinkled upon him, and his master shall return his reproach upon him.
13.1 As Ephraim spoke, he was a harlot in Israel, and he sinned against Baal and died.
13.2 And now they shall add to their sin, and make for themselves a mask of their own money, their writings, the work of the deaf, all for them, they say, "The sacrifices of men, calves, shall be offered."
13.3 Therefore they shall be as a morning cloud, and as the dew of the morning, which passeth away, as the wind that bloweth from the wind, and as the smoke of locusts.
13.4 And I am YHVH thy God from the land of Egypt; thou shalt know no God but me, and there is no savior beside me.
13.5 I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of the Gentiles.
13.6 As they fed, and were filled, they were filled, and their heart was lifted up. therefore they forgot me.
13.7 And I will be to them as a leopard that is on the way to Assyria.
13.8 I will meet them like a hungry bear, and will rend their heart, and will devour them there like a wild beast, tearing them to pieces.
13.9 You have cut off Israel, for I am with you.
13.10 Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy king be with thee, and let him save thee in all thy cities, and let thy judges be with thee, of whom thou hast said, Give me a king and governors.
13.11 I will give you a king in my presence, and I will take away your transgressions.
13.12 The iniquity of Ephraim is a bundle of his sins,
13.13 The pangs of childbirth will come upon him; he is an unwise son, for he will not stand in the time of trouble for his sons.
13.14 From the hand of Sheol I will redeem them; from death I will redeem them. O death, O your word! O death, O your word! Sheol, comfort, hide itself from my eyes.
13.15 For he is a son of a brother, and he shall be fruitful. the Spirit of YHVH shall come from the wilderness, and shall dry up his roots, and shall perish from his sight. he shall destroy the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
14.1 Samaria shall be blamed, because she hath broken her neck by the sword. her branches shall fall, and her branches shall be broken.
14.2 Return, O Israel, unto YHVH thy God. for thou hast failed in thine iniquity.
14.3 Take with you words, and return to YHVH, and say unto him, O Lord, bear all iniquity, and accept good, and let our lips be filled with peace.
14.4 Assyria will not save us on horses; we will not ride on them, nor will we say any more, "Our God," because of the work of our hands, "who is in you? He will have mercy on the fatherless."
14.5 I will heal their backsliding, I will love them with kindness, for my anger has turned away from them.
14.6 I will be as the dew unto Israel. he shall blossom as the lily, and send forth his roots as the lily.
14.7 His children shall go forth, and he shall be as the olive tree of Turkey, and his smell as the fragrance of frankincense.
14.8 My people shall dwell in his shadow; the grain shall flourish, and flourish like the vine; his memory shall be like the vine of Lebanon.
14.9 Ephraim, what have I to do with my anger any longer? I have answered, and Assyria, I am like a fresh cypress, I am found fresh.
14.10 Who is wise, and understandeth these things, and understandeth that the ways of YHVH are right, and the righteous shall walk in them, but the transgressors shall stumble in them?
