Habakkuk 1.1 The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw 1.2 How long, O YHVH, shall I cry out, and you will not hear? I will cry out to you in anger, and you will not save. 1.3 Why do you see me in trouble and hardship? Why do you look on me with anger and hatred? Why do you bear strife and strife? 1.4 Therefore the law shall cease, and judgment shall not go forth for ever. for the wicked crowneth the righteous. therefore judgment shall go forth perversely. 1.5 Look among the nations and stare and be amazed. You will be amazed because he has worked in your days. You will not believe that he will tell you. 1.6 For, behold, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which walketh through the breadth of the land, to possess habitations that are not theirs. 1.7 And how terrible is his judgment, and how terrible is his coming out! 1.8 And his horses shall be swifter than leopards, and swifter than wolves of the east. and his horsemen shall spread abroad, and his horsemen shall come from afar, they shall fly as an eagle that seeketh to devour. 1.9 The bride of Ham will come from their front and gather the blue of captivity. 1.10 And he shall be a prey to kings, and shall play with princes. he shall play with every fortress, and shall gather up dust, and shall be taken. 1.11 Then a spirit passed by, and passed away, and this man's strength was attributed to his Alhym. 1.12 Are you not the one who is the beginning, O YHVH, my holy Alhym? We shall not die, O YHVH, in judgment, for those who have died, and the rock that has proved its foundation. 1.13 You are pure in eyes, and you cannot look on evil. Why do you look on traitors? You are silent when you swallow up the wicked, and the righteous are more than he. 1.14 And thou hast made man like the fish of the sea, and there is no similitude in him. 1.15 The rod of the vine is finished, they shall pluck it with their own hands, and gather it with their own sheaves. therefore shall he rejoice and be glad. 1.16 Therefore he shall sacrifice to his sanctuary, and burn incense to his consecration. for the fat of the beast is his portion, and his food he hath created. 1.17 YHVH will spit out his curse and will never spare the slaughter of nations. 2.1 I will stand on my watch, and set myself on the siege, and will watch to see what he will say to me, and what I shall answer at my rebuke. 2.2 Then YHVH answered me, and said, Write the vision, and write it down upon the palms, that he that readeth it may run. 2.3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time, and yet for the end, and will not lie. though it tarry, wait for it. for it will surely come, it will not tarry. 2.4 Behold, the righteous shall live by his faith, but the wicked shall not be righteous in him. 2.5 And though wine betrays a proud man, and does not rejoice, who has enlarged his soul like Sheol, and is like him, and cannot be satisfied, he will gather to himself all the nations, and gather to himself all the peoples. 2.6 Do not all these speak a parable against him, and speak riddles against him, and say, Woe to him who increases, how long, and makes his burden heavy? 2.7 Shall not thy teeth suddenly arise, and thy fangs be cut off, and thou shalt be a prey to them? 2.8 For you are the kingdom of many nations; all the rest of the peoples will be filled with blood, and the land of Tyre and all who live in it will be filled with blood. 2.9 Woe to him who is greedy for gain, who is evil to his house, who has built a house on high, to be delivered from the hand of evil. 2.10 You have consulted for your house the ends of many peoples, and you have sinned against your soul. 2.11 For a stone from the wall will cry out, and a piece of wood will answer. 2.12 Woe to him who builds a city with blood, and establishes a city with burnt offerings! 2.13 Is it not from YHVH of hosts that the peoples shall be consumed with fire, and the nations shall flee with empty vessels? 2.14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of YHVH, as the waters cover the sea. 2.15 Woe to him who gives his neighbor drink from the cup of your anger, and even drunkenness, that he may look upon their skins! 2.16 Thou shalt drink shame from honour, thou also shalt drink, and the uncircumcised shall turn the cup of the right hand of YHVH upon thee, and dishonour shall be upon thine honour. 2.17 For the filth of Lebanon shall be consumed, and the filth of beasts shall be consumed with the blood of men, and the filth of the land of Kirjath, and all that dwell therein. 2.18 What profiteth an idol, because they have made a mask for it? and a teacher of lies, because they have surely made a mind to make dumb idols? 2.19 Woe to him who said to the sycamore tree, "Woe to me, for I am a silent stone!" He shoots, "Behold, he gathers gold and silver, and there is no spirit in him." 2.20 And YHVH in his holy temple hath hidden the whole earth from his presence. 3.1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet concerning the gardens. 3.2 O YHVH, I have heard the report of thee, and I fear thee. O YHVH, thou hast wrought in the midst of years. thou hast kept him alive in the midst of years. thou hast declared in the wrath of the womb, thou hast remembered. 3.3 Alhym will come from Yemen, and the Holy One from Mount Paran will rule over the heavens, and his praise will fill the earth. 3.4 And the sun shall be as the light, and rays shall be from his hand, and there shall be a strong hiding place. 3.5 A word shall go before him, and a rebuke shall come forth at his feet. 3.6 He stood and measured the earth, and saw the nations pass away, and the mountains were scattered, until the hills of the world were washed away, the paths of the world were his. 3.7 I saw the tents of Cushan in distress, the curtains of the land of Midian. 3.8 YHVH is angry with the rivers, is your wrath with the rivers, is your transgression with the sea? For you ride on your horses, and on your chariots, to salvation. 3.9 The city will be filled with your bow, seven branches will be cut off, the rivers will split the earth. 3.10 He saw the mountains, he made a stream of water pass over the deep, his voice was lifted up, his hands lifted up. 3.11 The sun and moon stood still, and the light of your arrows they went to the moon, the lightning of your spear. 3.12 The earth will march in fury, and with a roar it will trample the nations. 3.13 You went out to save your people, to save your anointed, you crushed the head of the wicked house, the foundation was laid bare to the neck of the lion. 3.14 A female in the form of a headscarf will be ashamed to spread their joy to me, as if to feed the poor in secret. 3.15 You trod the sea, your horses trampled many waters. 3.16 I heard, and my belly was troubled at the sound of the deep. my lips were troubled. and I laid up a box, wherein I might rest against the day of trouble, to go up to the people of our land. 3.17 For the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall there be fruit on the vines; the work of the olive shall be forsaken, and the fig tree shall not be made. the sheep shall eat the figs, and there shall be no cattle in the stalls. 3.18 But I will trust in YHVH, and I will be glad in the Alhym of my Jesus. 3.19 YHVH, YHVH of hosts, will set my feet in stirrups, and in my death he will lead me as a conductor in my music.
