Second Chronicles

1.1 And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and YHVH his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

1.2 And Solomon said unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every ruler in all Israel, the chief of the fathers,

1.3 Then Solomon and all the congregation with him went to the high place that was at Gibeon, for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of YHVH had made in the wilderness.

1.4 But David had brought up the ark of God from Kirjath-jearim, which David had prepared for it. for he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem.

1.5 And the brazen altar, which Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of YHVH; and Solomon and the congregation sought it.

1.6 And Solomon went up there to the brazen altar before YHVH, which was by the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered upon it a thousand burnt offerings.

1.7 That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, "Ask what I will give you."

1.8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me king in his stead.

1.9 Now, O Lord God, let your word to David my father be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth.

1.10 Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out before this people, and I will come. for who shall judge this thy great people?

1.11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was with thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, and honour, and the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked for thyself long life, but hast asked for thyself wisdom and knowledge, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king.

1.12 Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; I will also give you riches, wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings who were before you had, nor will there be after you.

1.13 Then Solomon went to the high place that was at Gibeon in Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.

1.14 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen. and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

1.15 And the king made silver and gold as plentiful in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars as plentiful as the sycamores that are in the lowlands.

1.16 And the horses that Solomon had were brought out of Egypt, and the king's merchants bought them at a price.

1.17 And they went up, and brought out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Aram, they brought them out by their hand.

1.18 And Solomon said to build a house for the name of YHVH, and a house for his kingdom.

2.1 And Solomon numbered seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to rule over them.

2.2 And Solomon sent to Huram king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst with David my father, and sent him cedars to build him a house to dwell in.

2.3 Behold, I build a house to the name of YHVH my God, to dedicate it to him, to burn before him sweet incense, and to set before him continually, and to offer sacrifices morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the appointed feasts of YHVH our God for ever. This is for Israel.

2.4 And the house which I build is great. for great is our God above all gods.

2.5 And who is able to build him a house? For heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him. And who am I that I should build him a house, except to burn incense before him?

2.6 Now send me a skilled man to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, agate, crimson, and blue, and to know how to make the plans with the skilled men who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, which David my father prepared.

2.7 And send me cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees from Lebanon. for I know that thy servants can skill to cut timber in Lebanon. and, behold, my servants are with thy servants.

2.8 And to prepare me timber in abundance. for the house which I am building is great and wonderful.

2.9 And, behold, I have given to the hewers that cut down the timber, twenty thousand measures of wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.

2.10 And Huram king of Tyre sent in writing unto Solomon, saying, Because YHVH loveth his people, I will make thee king over them.

2.11 And Huram said, Blessed be YHVH God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, to build an house for YHVH, and an house for his kingdom.

2.12 And now I have sent a wise man, and understanding, unto my father Horemheb.

2.13 The son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father a man of the land, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in wood, in purple, in blue, and in crimson, and in scarlet, and to make all manner of devices, and to devise every device that shall be given him, with thy wise men, and with the wise men of my lord David thy father.

2.14 And now the wheat, and the summer fruits, and the oil, and the wine, which my lord hath said he will send unto his servants.

2.15 And we will cut down timber from Lebanon, as much as you need, and we will bring it to you in rafts by the Sea of Joppa, and you shall carry it up to Jerusalem.

2.16 And Solomon numbered all the sojourners that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith David his father had numbered them. and they were found an hundred and fifty thousand and three thousand and six hundred.

2.17 And he made of them seventy thousand bearers, and eighty thousand hewers in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to make the people serve.

3.1 Then Solomon began to build the house of YHVH in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, which had appeared to David his father, in the place which David had prepared in the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

3.2 And he began to build in the second month of the second year of his reign.

3.3 And these were the foundations of Solomon to build the house of God. the length was threescore cubits according to the first measure, and the breadth twenty cubits.

3.4 And the porch that was before the length of the house, and before the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty. and they overlaid it within with pure gold.

3.5 And the great house he covered with cypress wood, and overlaid it with fine gold, and set upon it palm trees and chains.

3.6 And he overlaid the house with precious stones for beauty, and the gold was pure gold.

3.7 And he overlaid the house, the beams, and the walls, and the doors thereof, with gold, and made cherubims upon the walls.

3.8 And he made the most holy house. the length thereof was twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits. and he overlaid it with pure gold, six hundred talents of gold.

3.9 And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold, and the tops of the pillars were of gold.

3.10 And he made in the most holy house two cherubims of beaten work, and overlaid them with gold.

3.11 And the wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long. the wing of the one was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.

3.12 And the wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits, joining to the wing of the other cherub.

3.13 The wings of these cherubim spread themselves out twenty cubits. and they stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.

3.14 And he made the vail of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, and wrought cherubim upon it.

3.15 And he made before the house two pillars, each thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter that was on the top of it five cubits.

3.16 And he made chains of brass, and put them upon the tops of the pillars; and he made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.

3.17 And he set up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and one on the left. and he called the name of the one on the right hand Jachin, and the name of the one on the left Boaz.

4.1 And he made an altar of brass, twenty cubits long, and twenty cubits broad, and ten cubits high.

4.2 And he made the sea ten cubits from brim to brim, round about, and five cubits high, and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

4.3 And the likeness of the sea under it, round about, compassing it with ten cubits, compassing the sea round about, two rows of oxen cast in his ladle.

4.4 It stands on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east, with the sea above them and its house behind them.

4.5 And its thickness was like a palm branch, and its rim was like the rim of a cup with a lily flower, holding three thousand houses.

4.6 And he made ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five on the left, to wash in them that which was burnt, and to wash in them. and the sea for the priests to wash in it.

4.7 And he made ten golden candlesticks according to their manner, and set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.

4.8 And he made ten altars, and placed them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left. And he made an hundred basons of gold.

4.9 And he made the court of the priests, and the great court, and doors for the court, and their doors of overlaid brass.

4.10 And he set the sea on the right side eastward, over against the south.

4.11 And Hiram made the vessels, and the lavers, and the fountains. and Hiram finished the work that he made for king Solomon for the house of God.

4.12 Two pillars, and the two chapiters and the two capitals on the top of the pillars, and two networks to cover the two chapiters of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars.

4.13 And the pomegranates four hundred for the two networks, two rows of pomegranates for one network, to cover the two capitals of the chapiters that were upon the pillars.

4.14 And he made the tables, and he made the tables of the tables.

4.15 One sea and twelve oxen under it.

4.16 And the pots, and the shovels, and the forks, and all their vessels, did Huram his father make for King Solomon for the house of YHVH of burnished brass.

4.17 In the plain of Jordan the king shall pour out his lamentation in the midst of the earth, between Succoth and Zeredathah.

4.18 And Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance. for the weight of the brass was not found out.

4.19 And Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of God, and the golden altar, and the lavers whereon the shewbread was set.

4.20 And the lamps and their lamps shall be burned as a judgment before the golden tabernacle,

4.21 And the flower, and the lamps, and the tongs, are of gold, of beaten gold.

4.22 And the snuffers, and the sprinkling bowls, and the ladles, and the censers, were of gold. and the opening of the house, the inner doors thereof, into the most holy place; and the doors of the house into the sanctuary, were of gold.

5.1 And all the work that Solomon made for the house of YHVH was finished. and Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, the silver, and the gold, and all the vessels, he put among the treasures of the house of God.

5.2 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the heads of the fathers' houses of the children of Israel, to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of YHVH out of the city of David, which is Zion.

5.3 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king at the feast, which is the seventh month.

5.4 And all the elders of Israel came, and the Levites took up the ark.

5.5 And they brought up the ark, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, the priests the Levites brought them up.

5.6 And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.

5.7 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of YHVH unto his place, into the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.

5.8 And the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its mercy seat above.

5.9 And the curtains were drawn up, and the ends of the curtains were seen from the ark over against the mercy seat, and they were not seen without. and they are there unto this day.

5.10 There is nothing in the ark except the two tables of water that Moses gave with the sword, which YHVH made with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.

5.11 And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that all the priests that were present were sanctified, that there was no room for the divisions.

5.12 And the Levites that sang, all of them, Asaph, Heman, Jodaton, and their sons and their brethren, clothed with clay, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, stood eastward of the altar. and with them were a hundred and twenty priests blowing with trumpets.

5.13 And it came to pass, that as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to praise and to give thanks unto YHVH, and as the mountains lifted up the voice with trumpets, and with cymbals, and with instruments of musick, and with praising YHVH, saying, For his mercy endureth for ever. and the house was filled with a cloud, the house of YHVH.

5.14 And the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud. for the glory of YHVH had filled the house of God.

6.1 Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said to dwell in the thick darkness.

6.2 And I have built you a house of ashes, and a place for you to dwell forever.

6.3 And the king turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Israel. and all the congregation of Israel stood.

6.4 And he said, Blessed be YHVH God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and with his hand hath it been fulfilled, saying,

6.5 Since the day that I brought my people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there; neither have I chosen any man to be a prince over my people Israel.

6.6 And I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

6.7 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of YHVH God of Israel.

6.8 And YHVH said unto David my father, Because it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, O LORD, for it was in thine heart,

6.9 You alone shall not build the house, but your son who shall come forth from your loins, he shall build the house for my name.

6.10 And YHVH hath established his word which he spake. and I will rise up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as YHVH promised, and will build the house for the name of YHVH God of Israel.

6.11 And there will I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of YHVH, which he made with the children of Israel.

6.12 And he stood before the altar of YHVH in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands.

6.13 For Solomon made a brazen laver, and set it in the midst of the sea, five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high. and he stood thereon, and knelt down before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

6.14 And he said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee in heaven or on earth, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart.

6.15 Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou promisedst him, and hast spoken with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day.

6.16 And now, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man before me to sit on the throne of Israel. if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

6.17 And now, O LORD God of Israel, let thy word be confirmed, which thou spakest unto thy servant David.

6.18 For truly God made man to dwell upon the earth. behold, heaven, and the highest heaven, cannot destroy this house which I have built.

6.19 And have regard to the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry, and to the prayer which your servant prayeth before you.

6.20 That thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, toward the place whereof thou hast said, I will put thy name there. that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.

6.21 And hearken unto the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place. and thou shalt hear from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and thou shalt hear, and forgive.

6.22 If a man sin against his neighbor, and bring a gift to his god, and bring the gift before your altar in this house,

6.23 Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, to recompense the wicked, to recompense his way upon his own head, and to justify the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

6.24 And if thy people Israel be put to the sword before an enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication before thee in this house.

6.25 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto them and to their fathers.

6.26 When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee, and if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, they shall turn from their sin, when thou wilt hear them.

6.27 Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou turnest them to the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

6.28 If there be famine in the land, or if there be locusts, or caterpillar

6.29 Every prayer, every supplication, which shall be made by any man, and by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man his own affliction and his own pain, and shall spread forth his hands toward this house.

6.30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest. for thou only knowest the hearts of men.

6.31 That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways all the days that they live upon the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

6.32 And also concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; and when they come and pray toward this house,

6.33 Then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth unto thee for. that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as thy people Israel do, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

6.34 When your people go out to war against their enemies by the way you shall send them, and they pray to you toward this city which you have chosen and the house which I have built for your name,

6.35 Then hear thou from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

6.36 If they sin against you, for there is no man who does not sin, and you turn against them and deliver them before the enemy, and they carry them away captive to a land far or near.

6.37 And they shall bring their heart to remembrance in the land whither they were carried captives, and shall return, and beseech thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done wickedly, and we have done wickedly.

6.38 And they shall return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they were carried captives, and shall pray toward their land which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name.

6.39 Then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

6.40 Now, my God, let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer made in this place.

6.41 Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy rest, thou, and the ark of thy strength. thy priests, O LORD God, shall be clothed with salvation, and thy saints shall rejoice in goodness.

6.42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed. remember the mercy of David thy servant.

7.1 And when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of YHVH filled the house.

7.2 And the priests could not enter into the house of YHVH, because the glory of YHVH had filled the house of YHVH.

7.3 And all the children of Israel saw the fire come down, and the glory of YHVH upon the house; and they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the floor, and worshipped, and gave thanks unto YHVH, for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

7.4 And the king and all the people offered sacrifice before YHVH.

7.5 And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. and the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

7.6 And the priests stood in their stations, and the Levites with the instruments of the song of YHVH, which David the king had made, to praise YHVH. for his mercy endureth for ever, in the praise of David. and the priests blew trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.

7.7 And Solomon sanctified the inner court that was before the house of YHVH. for there he offered the burnt offering and the fat of the peace offerings. because the brazen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offering, and the meat offering, and the fat.

7.8 And Solomon kept the feast at that time seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.

7.9 And they held an assembly on the eighth day. for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

7.10 And on the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their tents, joyful and glad of heart for the goodness that YHVH had shown to David and to Solomon and to Israel his people.

7.11 So Solomon finished the house of YHVH, and the king's house, and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of YHVH, and in his own house, he prospered.

7.12 And YHVH appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place unto myself for an house of sacrifice.

7.13 If I shut up the heavens, and there be no rain, and command the locusts to devour the land, and if I send a word among my people,

7.14 If my people, who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land.

7.15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer made in this place.

7.16 Now I have chosen and consecrated this house, that my name may be there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there continually.

7.17 And if you will walk before me as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my judgments,

7.18 And I will establish the throne of thy kingdom, as I covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.

7.19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods, and worship them;

7.20 And they shall be drunken from my land which I have given them, and this house which I have hallowed for my name will I cast out of my sight, and will make us a proverb and a byword among all nations.

7.21 And this house, which was exalted above all, shall be set upon him, and he shall say, Why hath YHVH done thus unto this land, and unto this house?

7.22 And they said, Because they forsook YHVH God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them; therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

8.1 And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the house of YHVH, and his own house,

8.2 And the cities which Horem gave to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there.

8.3 Then Solomon went to Hamath-zobah and fortified it.

8.4 And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities which he built in Hamath.

8.5 And he built Upper Bethhoron and Lower Bethhoron, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars.

8.6 And Baalath, and all the store cities that Solomon had, and all the cities of his chariots, and the cities of his horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

8.7 All the people who were left of the Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of Israel,

8.8 Of their children that were left after them in the land, which the children of Israel had not, Solomon was a tribute unto this day.

8.9 And of the children of Israel, whom Solomon made no servants for his work. but they were men of war, and captains of his captains, and captains of his chariots, and horsemen.

8.10 And these are the chief of the officers which king Solomon had, two hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people.

8.11 And Solomon brought up Pharaoh's daughter from the city of David to the house that he had built for her. for he said, There shall not be a wife for me in the house of David king of Israel. for they are holy, into which the ark of YHVH came.

8.12 Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to YHVH on the altar of YHVH which he had built before the porch.

8.13 And concerning the daily offering according to the commandment of Moses, for the Sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts three times in the year, in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles.

8.14 And he appointed, according to the ordinance of David his father, the courses of the priests for their service, and the Levites for their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as their daily duty required. and the porters in their courses at every gate. for so was the commandment of David the man of God.

8.15 And the king's commandment concerning the priests and Levites concerning any matter and concerning the treasures departed not from them.

8.16 And all the work of Solomon was completed unto this day, from the foundation of the house of YHVH, until it was finished, and the house of YHVH was finished.

8.17 Then Solomon went to Ezion Geber and to Eloth on the seashore in the land of Edom.

8.18 And Huram sent him by the hand of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea. and they came with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and took thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.

9.1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great host, and camels that bare spices, and very much gold, and precious stones. and she came to Solomon, and communed with him of all that was in her heart.

9.2 And Solomon told her all her words. and there hid not anything from Solomon which he told her not.

9.3 And the queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built.

9.4 And the food of our messengers, and the sitting of his servants, and the standing of his ministers, and their apparel, and their drinking vessels, and their apparel, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of YHVH, and there was no more spirit in it.

9.5 And she said to the king, The report that I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom is true.

9.6 And I believed not their words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it. and, behold, thou hast not told me the half of thy wisdom. Dost thou add unto the fame which I heard?

9.7 Blessed are your men, and blessed are your servants, who stand before you continually, and hear your wisdom.

9.8 Blessed be YHVH thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on his throne to be king for YHVH thy God, because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, and made thee king over them, to do judgment and righteousness.

9.9 And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and very great abundance of spices, and precious stones. and there was none like unto them which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

9.10 And the servants of Hiram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir, brought algum trees and precious stones.

9.11 And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of YHVH, and for the king's house, and psalteries and harps for the singers. and the like were not seen before in the land of Judah.

9.12 And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, which she asked, beside that which she had brought unto the king. and she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants.

9.13 And the weight of the gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold.

9.14 Besides the merchants and the merchants, all the kings of Arabia and the lesser kings of the earth brought gold and silver to Solomon.

9.15 And king Solomon made two hundred basons of beaten gold; six hundred beaten gold went into one bason.

9.16 And three hundred shields of beaten gold, three hundred beaten gold went to one shield. and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

9.17 And the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.

9.18 And there were six steps to the throne, and a golden ram to the throne, with handles on either side of the place of rest, and two lions standing by the handles.

9.19 And twelve lions stood there upon the six steps, on each side. there is none like this done in any kingdom.

9.20 And all king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. silver was not accounted of any thing in the days of Solomon.

9.21 For the king of Tarshish had ships of the laws, with the servants of Horem. once in three years came the ships of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and parrots.

9.22 And king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

9.23 And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

9.24 And they brought every man his offering, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and perfect weapons, and horses and mules, year by year.

9.25 And Solomon had four thousand lions for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

9.26 And he was ruler over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines, even unto the border of Egypt.

9.27 And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he as the sycamores that are in the lowland for abundance.

9.28 And they brought horses out of Egypt for Solomon, and out of all lands.

9.29 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the words of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddai the seer against Jeroboam the son of Nebat?

9.30 And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

9.31 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David his father. and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

10.1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem. for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.

10.2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard, (for he was in Egypt, where he was fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

10.3 And they sent and called him. and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

10.4 Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore lighten the hard service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.

10.5 And he said unto them, Yet three days, and come again unto me. And the people departed.

10.6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, How give ye counsel to answer this people?

10.7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be good unto this people, and wilt speak good words unto them, then will they be thy servants for ever?

10.8 And he forsook the counsel of the elders which had counselled him, and took counsel with the children that were brought up with him, which stood before him.

10.9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, which have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten the yoke which thy father did put upon us?

10.10 And the children that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and thou hast made it lighter for us. thus shalt thou say unto them, I am young, and my father is fatter than I.

10.11 And now my father laid on you a heavy yoke, but I will add to your yoke. my father shall chastise you with whips, but I with scorpions.

10.12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had said, saying, Come again to me the third day.

10.13 And the king answered them roughly. and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men.

10.14 And he spake unto them after the manner of children, saying, I will make your yoke heavy, and I will add to it. my father shall chastise you with whips, and I with scorpions.

10.15 But the king hearkened not unto the people. for they were turned away from the people of God, that YHVH might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

10.16 And all Israel, because the king would not hearken unto them, answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and have we no inheritance in the son of Jesse? and we have no inheritance in the house of Israel. now therefore see thy house, David; and all Israel to their tents.

10.17 And the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, and Rehoboam reigned over them.

10.18 Then king Rehoboam sent away the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. and king Rehoboam made haste to get him up to his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.

10.19 And Israel transgressed against the house of David unto this day.

11.1 And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, and gathered together of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam.

11.2 And the word of YHVH came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

11.3 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

11.4 Thus saith YHVH, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren. return every man to his house. for this thing is of me. And they hearkened unto the words of YHVH, and returned from following Jeroboam.

11.5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

11.6 And he built Bethlehem, and Ithamar, and Tekoa.

11.7 And Beth-zur, and Shukoh, and Adelham,

11.8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph.

11.9 And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

11.10 And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and Benjamin, cities of affliction.

11.11 And he strengthened the fortresses, and put governors in them, and stores of food, and oil, and wine.

11.12 And in every city and town there were spears and shields, and he strengthened them to a very great extent, and Judah and Benjamin were his.

11.13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel stood upon him from all their coasts.

11.14 For the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem. for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from being priests unto YHVH.

11.15 And he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the goats, and for the calves which he had made.

11.16 And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek YHVH God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to YHVH God of their fathers.

11.17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years. for they walked in the way of David and Solomon three years.

11.18 And Rehoboam took him to wife Mahalath the son of Jerimoth the son of David, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

11.19 And she bore him sons. Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

11.20 And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abia, and Ati, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

11.21 And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and his concubines. for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.

11.22 And Rehoboam made Abia the son of Maacah the governor among his brethren, to reign over them.

11.23 And he built and scattered all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities, and gave them food in abundance, and he married many women.

12.1 And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and when he had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of YHVH, and all Israel with him.

12.2 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against YHVH.

12.3 With one thousand two hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen, and without number the people that came with him out of Egypt, the Lubims, the Scythians, the Cushites.

12.4 And he took the fenced cities of Judah, and came as far as Jerusalem.

12.5 Then came Shemaiah the prophet unto Rehoboam, and unto the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith YHVH; Ye have forsaken me, and I also have forsaken you into the hand of Shishak.

12.6 Then the princes of Israel and the king bowed down and said, "The LORD is righteous."

12.7 And when YHVH saw that they humbled themselves, the word of YHVH came to Shemaiah, saying, "Submit yourselves, I will not destroy them, but I will give them a little escape, and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak."

12.8 For they shall be his servants, and they shall know my works, and the works of the kingdoms of the earth.

12.9 And Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of YHVH, and the treasures of the king's house; he took all; and he took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

12.10 And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, that kept the door of the king's house.

12.11 And it came to pass, that whenever the king came into the house of YHVH, the runners came and carried him, and brought him back to the runners' chamber.

12.12 And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, and he did not destroy him altogether. And also in Judah there were good things.

12.13 And king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned. for Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which YHVH had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. and his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

12.14 And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek YHVH.

12.15 Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the words of Shemaiah the prophet, which saw the vision, and the wars of Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days?

12.16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. and Abia his son reigned in his stead.

13.1 In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam, Abia began to reign over Judah.

13.2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Micaiah, the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between her father and Jeroboam.

13.3 And Abia commanded the war with an army of mighty men of valor, four hundred thousand chosen men. and Jeroboam set the war against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men of valor, mighty men of valor.

13.4 And Abia stood up from mount Zamarim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said unto Simeon, Jeroboam, and all Israel,

13.5 Do you not know that the Lord God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

13.6 And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.

13.7 And they gathered unto him vain men, children of Belial, and strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon. but Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and would not strengthen himself before them.

13.8 And now ye say, Let us strengthen ourselves against the kingdom of YHVH by the hand of the sons of David. and ye are a great multitude, and with you are the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

13.9 Have you not cast out the priests of YHVH, the sons of Aaron and the Levites, and made you priests like the peoples of the lands? Every one that cometh to offer his hand with a bullock, and with seven bullocks, and he is a priest without God?

13.10 But we are YHVH our God, and have not forsaken him. and the priests minister unto YHVH, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, in their service.

13.11 And they shall burn unto YHVH burnt offerings every morning, and every evening sweet incense, and shewbread upon the pure table, and the golden candlestick with the lamps thereof to burn every evening. for we keep the charge of YHVH our God, and ye have forsaken him.

13.12 And, behold, there is with us God at the head, and his priests with trumpets to sound an alarm against you, O children of Israel. fight not against YHVH God of your fathers, for ye shall not prosper.

13.13 And Jeroboam caused the ambush to come behind them, and they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

13.14 And Judah turned, and, behold, the battle was before them and behind them. and they cried unto YHVH, and the priests blew with the trumpets.

13.15 And the men of Judah shouted. and it came to pass, when the men of Judah shouted, that God smote Jeroboam, and all Israel, before the face of Abiathar, and before Judah.

13.16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand.

13.17 And Abia and his people smote them with a great slaughter. and there fell of Israel five hundred thousand men in the wilderness.

13.18 And the children of Israel were subdued at that time, and the children of Judah were strengthened, because they relied upon YHVH God of their fathers.

13.19 And his father pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel and her daughters, and Shenah and her daughters, and Ephron and her daughters.

13.20 And Jeroboam strengthened himself no more in the days of his father. and YHVH afflicted him, and he died.

13.21 And Abihu waxed strong, and took unto him fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons and sixteen daughters.

13.22 And the rest of the words of his father, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the book of the prophet Iddo.

13.23 And his father slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. and Asa his son reigned in his stead. and in his days the land had rest ten years.

14.1 And Asa did that which was good and right in the sight of YHVH his God.

14.2 And he removed the strange altars and the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves.

14.3 And he commanded Judah to seek YHVH God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

14.4 And he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the groves. and the kingdom was quiet before him.

14.5 And he built cities of refuge in Judah, because the land was quiet, and there was no war with him in those years, because YHVH had given him rest.

14.6 And he said to Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars. the land is yet before us. because we have sought YHVH our God, we have sought him, and he gave us rest on every side. and they built and prospered.

14.7 And Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men, out of Judah, that bare shields and spears. and out of Benjamin, two hundred and eighty thousand, that bare shields and drew bows. all these were mighty men of valor.

14.8 And Zerah the Ethiopian went out against them with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah.

14.9 And Asa went out before him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah unto Mareshah.

14.10 And Asa cried unto YHVH his God, and said, LORD, is there no help with thee, whether with many or with little power? Help us, O LORD our God. for we rest upon thee, and in thy name we come against this multitude. thou, O LORD our God, let not a man be able to stay thy people.

14.11 And YHVH smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

14.12 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar. and the slain fell upon them, so that they had no more life. for they were broken before YHVH, and before his camp, and they carried away a very great spoil.

14.13 And they smote all the cities round about Gerar. for the fear of YHVH was upon them. and they spoiled all the cities, because there were many of them.

14.14 And they struck down the tents of the flock, and dwelt in abundance in the flocks, and in Jerusalem in the camels.

15.1 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.

15.2 And he went out before Asa, and said unto him, The Simeonites, and Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin, YHVH is with you, while ye be with him. and if ye seek him, he will be found of you. but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

15.3 And Israel was many days without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.

15.4 And he set his heart upon YHVH God of Israel, and sought him, and was found of them.

15.5 And in those times there shall be no peace to him that goeth out, nor to him that cometh in. for great tumult shall be upon all the inhabitants of the lands.

15.6 And they shall smite nation against nation, and city against city. for God shall smite in every affliction.

15.7 But be strong, and let not your hands be slack. for there is a reward for your work.

15.8 And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy, Idded the prophet took courage, and removed the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and repaired the altar of YHVH, that was before the house of YHVH.

15.9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim, and out of Manasseh, and out of Simeon. for they fell to him out of Israel in great numbers, when they saw that YHVH his God was with him.

15.10 And they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

15.11 And they sacrificed to YHVH that day of the spoil seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

15.12 And they entered into a covenant to seek YHVH God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul.

15.13 And whoever will not seek YHVH God of Israel shall be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.

15.14 And they swore to YHVH with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with trumpets.

15.15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath. for they had sworn with all their heart, and with all their desire sought him, and he was found of them, and YHVH gave them rest on every side.

15.16 And also Maacah the mother of Asa the king removed the concubine, which had made an idol for Asherah. and Asa cut down her idol, and burnt it in the brook Kidron.

15.17 But the high places were not removed out of Israel. nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

15.18 And he brought the dedicated things of his father, and his dedicated things, into the house of God, silver, and gold, and vessels.

15.19 And there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.

16.1 In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah and built the high place so that no one could go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

16.2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of YHVH and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

16.3 There is a covenant between me and you, and between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold. You have broken your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, and he has risen up against me.

16.4 And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the armies which were with him against the cities of Israel. and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the strong cities of Naphtali.

16.5 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building the heap, and ceased his work.

16.6 Then king Asa took all Judah, and they carried away the stones of the high place, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had built, and built with them Geba and Mizpah.

16.7 At that time Hanani came and saw Asa king of Judah, and said to him, Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on YHVH your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped out of your hand.

16.8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Libyans a mighty army, with chariots and horsemen in abundance? And because you relied on YHVH, he delivered them into your hand.

16.9 For the eyes of YHVH run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to strengthen them that are of a perfect heart toward him. You have been foolish in this, for from now on there will be wars with you.

16.10 Then Asa was angry with the seer, and gave him a house of confusion. for the people were angry with him for this thing. and Asa fled from the people at that time.

16.11 Now the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

16.12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was sick from his feet even to his head. and in his sickness he sought not YHVH, but unto the physicians.

16.13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the forty-first year of his reign.

16.14 And they buried him in his own sepulchre, which he had digged for himself in the city of David, and laid him in a bed which was filled with spices and various kinds of spices, prepared with spices, and they burned a great and very great fire for him.

17.1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself over Israel.

17.2 And he placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and put garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

17.3 And YHVH was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of David his father, and sought not unto the king.

17.4 For he sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

17.5 And YHVH established the kingdom in his hand. and all Judah brought presents to Jehoshaphat. and he had riches and honour in abundance.

17.6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of YHVH. and he took away the high places and the groves out of Judah.

17.7 And in the third year of his reign he sent his ministers, Ben-hail, and Abadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

17.8 And with them the Levites. Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Meramith, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob, the Levites. and with them Elishama, and Jehoram, the priests.

17.9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of YHVH with them. and they went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

17.10 And the fear of YHVH fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, and they made no war with Jehoshaphat.

17.11 And the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and tribute money. the Arabians also brought him seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.

17.12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great, and built in Judah castles and cities of strength.

17.13 And he had much work in the cities of Judah, and mighty men of valor in Jerusalem.

17.14 And these are the numbers of their fathers' houses, for Judah, captains of thousands, Edna the captain, and with him mighty men of valor, three hundred thousand.

17.15 And with him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand.

17.16 And next to him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who volunteered for YHVH, and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor.

17.17 And of Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him armed with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

17.18 And next to him was Jehozadak, and with him an hundred and eighty thousand mighty men of valor.

17.19 These are they that serve the king, besides those whom the king hath given in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

18.1 And Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and he married Ahab.

18.2 And he went down to Ahab at the end of two years to Samaria. and Ahab sacrificed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, for Rabbah, and for the people that were with him, and persuaded him to go up to Ramothgilead.

18.3 And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Go up with me to Ramathgilead. And he said unto him, As I am, so art thou, and as thy people, so is my people, and thy people in war.

18.4 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of YHVH this day.

18.5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I refrain? And they said, Go up; for God shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

18.6 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of YHVH besides, that we may inquire of him?

18.7 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of YHVH. and I hate him; for he never prophesieth good concerning me, but evil all his days. he is Micaiah the son of Jemlah. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

18.8 Then the king of Israel called one of his officers, and said, Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah.

18.9 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat each on his throne, clothed in robes, and sitting at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

18.10 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith YHVH, With these shalt thou push Syria until they be consumed.

18.11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper. and YHVH shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

18.12 And the angel that went to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one consent. let thy word, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak good.

18.13 And Micaiah said, As YHVH liveth, whatsoever my God saith, that will I speak unto him.

18.14 And he came to the king. and the king said unto him, Micaiah, Shall we go to Ramath Gilead to battle, or shall I be at a loss? And he said, Go up, and prosper, and it shall be delivered into your hand.

18.15 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of YHVH?

18.16 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. and YHVH said, I will not be their shepherd. let them return every man to his house in peace.

18.17 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?

18.18 And he said, Therefore hear the word of YHVH. I saw YHVH sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

18.19 And YHVH said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And he said, Thus saith this man, and thus saith this man?

18.20 And there went out a spirit, and stood before YHVH, and said, I am he. And YHVH said unto him, What?

18.21 And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt tempt, and shalt also prevail. go out, and do so.

18.22 And now, behold, YHVH hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and YHVH hath spoken evil against thee.

18.23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of YHVH from me to speak unto thee?

18.24 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, that thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

18.25 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son.

18.26 And you said, Thus says the king. Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace.

18.27 And Micaiah said, If thou return indeed in peace, YHVH hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye peoples.

18.28 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

18.29 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Disguise thyself, and go into the battle; and put thou on thy garments. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into the battle.

18.30 And the king of Aram commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, but with the king of Israel only.

18.31 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. and they turned about against him to fight. but Jehoshaphat cried unto YHVH for help; and God removed them from him.

18.32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that the king of Israel was not there, that they turned aside after him.

18.33 And a man drew his bow with a bowstring, and smote the king of Israel between the guard and the guard. and he said unto the chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the camp; for I am sick.

18.34 And the battle increased that day. and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even. and about the going down of the sun he died.

19.1 Then Jehoshaphat king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

19.2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said unto king Jehoshaphat, Thou hast loved the wicked, and the avenger, and them that hate YHVH, and for this cause wrath is upon thee from YHVH.

19.3 Nevertheless, good things have been found with you, in that you have burned the idols from the land and have prepared your heart to seek God.

19.4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt in Jerusalem, and went out with the people from Beersheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto YHVH God of their fathers.

19.5 And judges were appointed in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city.

19.6 And he said unto the judges, Take heed what ye do. for ye judge not for man, but for YHVH, and for your people in a matter of judgment.

19.7 Now therefore let the fear of YHVH be upon you; take heed and do it. for there is no sacrifice with YHVH our God, nor partiality, nor taking of bribes.

19.8 And in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of YHVH, and for controversies. and they dwelt in Jerusalem.

19.9 And they commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of YHVH, with faith and with a perfect heart.

19.10 And whatever dispute arises between you and your brothers who live in their cities, between blood and blood, between the law and the commandment, the statutes and the judgments, you shall warn them, and they will not be guilty before the Lord, and wrath will come upon you and your brothers. Thus you shall do, and you shall not be guilty.

19.11 And behold, Amariah the priest is the chief over you for all the matters of YHVH, and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael is the ruler of the house of Judah for all the matters of the king, and the officers of the Levites are before you. Be strong and do it, and YHVH will be with the good.

20.1 And it came to pass after them, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

20.2 And they came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Aram. and, behold, they are at Hazazon Tamar, which is En Gedi.

20.3 And when Jehoshaphat saw this, he set his face to inquire of YHVH, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

20.4 And Judah gathered themselves together to seek YHVH. and out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek YHVH.

20.5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of YHVH, before the new court.

20.6 And YHVH God of our fathers said, Art not thou God in heaven? and rulest thou not over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is power and might, and there is none that can withstand thee?

20.7 Didst not thou, our God, inherit the inhabitants of this land from before thy people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham, thy beloved, for ever?

20.8 And they shall dwell therein, and shall build thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

20.9 If evil come upon us, sword, judgment, or famine, we will stand before this house, and before thee. for thy name is in this house, and we will cry unto thee in our trouble, and thou wilt hear and save.

20.10 And now, behold, the children of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came up out of the land of Egypt. for they turned away from them, and thou destroyed them not.

20.11 And behold, they are coming against us to drive us out of your inheritance which you have given us.

20.12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power before this great multitude that is coming against us. And we do not know what to do, for our eyes are on you.

20.13 And all Judah stood before YHVH, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

20.14 And Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came upon him the Spirit of YHVH in the midst of the congregation.

20.15 And he said, Hearken, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith YHVH unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude. for the battle is not yours, but God's.

20.16 Tomorrow go down upon them, and behold, there are leaves on the top of the cistern, and you will find them at the end of the brook, opposite the wilderness of Jeruel.

20.17 You will not have to fight in this battle; stand firm, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord among you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the Lord will be with you.

20.18 Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before YHVH, worshiping YHVH.

20.19 And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korahites, stood up to praise YHVH God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

20.20 And they rose up early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa. and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Ye men of Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, believe in YHVH your God, and be strong; believe his prophets, and ye shall prosper.

20.21 And he consulted with the people, and they stood singing to YHVH, and praising for the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the pioneer, and saying, Give thanks to YHVH. for his mercy endureth for ever.

20.22 And when they began to sing and praise, YHVH set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come into Judah; and they smote them.

20.23 And the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir to utterly destroy them. and when they were consumed among the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped his neighbour to destroy them.

20.24 And Judah came to the pass of the wilderness, and they turned toward the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the ground, and there was no escape.

20.25 And Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, and they found among them much wealth, and dead bodies, and pleasant vessels, and they spared them without a burden. and they were three days in plundering the spoil, for it was much.

20.26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of blessing. for there they blessed YHVH. therefore the name of that place is called the valley of blessing unto this day.

20.27 Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, returned to Jerusalem with joy. for YHVH had made them rejoice over their enemies.

20.28 And they came to Jerusalem with harps, and cymbals, and trumpets, unto the house of YHVH.

20.29 And the fear of God was upon all the kingdoms of those lands, when they heard that YHVH fought against the enemies of Israel.

20.30 And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was quiet, and his God gave him rest on every side.

20.31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azuba the daughter of Shilhi.

20.32 And he walked in the way of his father Asa, and departed not from it, to do that which was right in the sight of YHVH.

20.33 But the high places were not taken away, neither yet did the people prepare their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

20.34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the words of Jehu the son of Hanani, which he recorded in the book of the kings of Israel.

20.35 And after this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, to do evil.

20.36 And they joined him with him to make ships to go to Tarshish. and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.

20.37 Then Eliezer the son of Dedo of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, YHVH hath broken thy works, and they have broken the ships, that they have not ceased to go to Tarshish.

21.1 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

21.2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat; Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah. all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

21.3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with cities of strength in Judah. and the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

21.4 And Jehoram rose up in the kingdom of his father, and strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and also the princes of Israel.

21.5 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

21.6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab. for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife. and he did evil in the sight of YHVH.

21.7 But YHVH would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he had promised to give him a throne and to his sons forever.

21.8 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and they made a king over them.

21.9 And Jehoram passed over with his princes, and all the chariots with him. and he rose up by night, and smote Edom which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots.

21.10 And Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. then shall Libanus revolt at that time from under his hand, because he hath forsaken YHVH God of his fathers.

21.11 He also made high places in the mountains of Judah, and nourished the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and cast out Judah.

21.12 And there came a letter to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith YHVH God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, and in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

21.13 And thou hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast played the harlot in Judah and in the inhabitants of Jerusalem, like the harlotry of the house of Ahab. and thou hast also slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thou.

21.14 Behold, YHVH will smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods, with a great plague.

21.15 And thou shalt be in great pains by the disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels shall come out of the disease day by day.

21.16 And YHVH stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, which were with the Ethiopians.

21.17 And they came up against Judah, and ravaged it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons, and his wives. and he had no son left him, save Jehoahaz the youngest of his sons.

21.18 And after all this YHVH smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

21.19 And it came to pass in the days of old, and now at the end of the days, that his diseases went out of him, and he died of a grievous disease. and they made no funeral for him, as they had made funerals for his fathers.

21.20 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. He went without any desire, and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

22.1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead. for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. and Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

22.2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. and his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

22.3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab. for his mother was his counsellor to pervert

22.4 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, like the house of Ahab. for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

22.5 He also followed their advice and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead, and the Arameans defeated Joram.

22.6 And he returned to be healed in Jezreel. for the plague which he had smitten him in Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria, and Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

22.7 And it was of God that Ahaziah was overthrown to come to Joram. and when he came, he went out with Joram to Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom YHVH had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

22.8 And it came to pass, when Jehu was judging the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of Ahaziah's brethren, servants of Ahaziah, and slew them.

22.9 And he sought Ahaziah, and caught him, while he was hiding in Samaria, and brought him to Jehu, and they slew him, and buried him. for they said, He is the son of Jehoshaphat, which sought YHVH with all his heart. and there is none of the house of Ahaziah that can retain the kingdom.

22.10 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and spoke to all the seed of the kingdom, to the house of Judah.

22.11 And Jehoshaphat the daughter of the king took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. and Jehoshaphat the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, hid him, because she was the sister of Ahaziah, because of Athaliah; and she slew him not.

22.12 And he was with them in the house of God, hidden six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.

23.1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeraham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

23.2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

23.3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. and he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as YHVH spake concerning the sons of David.

23.4 This is what you shall do, a third of you who come in on the Sabbath to the priests and Levites at the gates.

23.5 And a third part at the king's house, and a third part at the foundation gate, and all the people in the courts of the house of YHVH.

23.6 And let no one come into the house of YHVH, save the priests and the ministers of the Levites, they shall come in, for they are holy. and all the people shall keep the charge of YHVH.

23.7 And the Levites compassed the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand. and he that cometh into the house shall be put to death. and they shall be with the king when he cometh in and when he goeth out.

23.8 And the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and took every man his men that came in on the sabbath with them that went out on the sabbath. for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the divisions.

23.9 And Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains over hundreds the spears, and the shields, and the shields that had been King David's, which were in the house of God.

23.10 And he made all the people stand, every man by his hand, from the right side of the house unto the left side of the house, by the altar and by the house, by the king round about.

23.11 And they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown and the testimony, and made him king. and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, Long live the king.

23.12 And Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, and she came to the people into the house of YHVH.

23.13 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood by his pillar in the entry, and the singers and the trumpeters by the king. and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets, and the singers with instruments of musick, and proclaimed praise. And Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, A conspiracy, a conspiracy.

23.14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds, who were over the host, and said unto them, Bring her forth out of the house of the guard. and he that cometh after her shall be slain with the sword. for the priest said, Ye shall not put her to death in the house of YHVH.

23.15 And they laid hands on her, and she came to the entrance of the horse gate of the king's house, and he slew her there.

23.16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they should be the people of YHVH.

23.17 And all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake down his altars and his images, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

23.18 And Jehoiada appointed the oversight of the house of YHVH unto the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had divided over the house of YHVH, to offer burnt offerings unto YHVH, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, by the hand of David.

23.19 And the gatekeepers stood at the gates of the house of YHVH, and none that was unclean for any thing entered in.

23.20 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the mighty men, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of YHVH. and they came into the upper gate of the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

23.21 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. and they slew Athaliah with the sword.

24.1 Jaash was seven years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zabiah of Beersheba.

24.2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of YHVH all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

24.3 And Jehoiada took him two wives, and begat sons and daughters.

24.4 And it came to pass after them, that the heart of Joash was set in repairing the house of YHVH.

24.5 And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said unto them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year. and ye shall speak hastily, but the Levites shall not speak hastily.

24.6 Then the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, Why have you not required the Levites to bring out of Judah and Jerusalem the tribute of Moses the servant of YHVH, and of the congregation of Israel, to the tabernacle of the congregation?

24.7 For wicked Athaliah and her sons broke up the house of God, and also all the dedicated things of the house of YHVH they gave to Baalim.

24.8 And the king said, Let them make an ark, and set it at the gate of the house of YHVH, which is over against the wall.

24.9 And they caused a cry to be made in Judah and Jerusalem, to bring unto YHVH the burden of Moses the servant of God, which was upon Israel in the wilderness.

24.10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought and cast into the ark until it was consumed.

24.11 And it came to pass, when the ark was brought to the king's charge by the hand of the Levites, that when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the chief priest's officer came, and took up the ark, and carried it, and brought it again to his place. thus they did day by day, and gathered much money.

24.12 And the king and Jehoiada appointed him to do the work of the service of the house of YHVH. and they hired masons and carpenters to repair the house of YHVH, and also workers in iron and brass to strengthen the house of YHVH.

24.13 And the workmen made a long trench for the work in their hands, and they set the house of God upon its foundation, and strengthened it.

24.14 And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, and made of it vessels for the house of YHVH, vessels for ministering, and for burnt offerings, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. and they offered burnt offerings in the house of YHVH continually all the days of Jehoiada.

24.15 And Jehoiada waxed old, and lived seventy years, and died, being an hundred and thirty years old at his death.

24.16 And they buried him in the city of David with the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and with God, and with his house.

24.17 And after the death of Jehoiada the princes of Judah came and bowed down to the king. And the king listened to them.

24.18 And they forsook the house of YHVH God of their fathers, and served groves and idols. and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.

24.19 And he sent prophets among them to bring them back to YHVH, and they testified against them, but they would not listen.

24.20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of YHVH, that ye cannot prosper? for ye have forsaken YHVH, and he hath forsaken you.

24.21 And they bound him, and stoned him with stones, according to the king's commandment, in the court of the house of YHVH.

24.22 And Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done unto him, but slew his son, and said, Fear YHVH, and seek after him.

24.23 And it came to pass at the time of the year, that an army of the Syrians came up against him, and came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among them, and sent all the spoil of them to the king of Damascus.

24.24 For in the distress of the people came the army of Syria, and YHVH gave them a very great army, because they had forsaken YHVH God of their fathers, and Joash had made them judges.

24.25 And when they had departed from him, because they had left him in many straits, his servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died. and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchres of the kings.

24.26 And these are they that conspired against him, Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonite, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabite.

24.27 And his sons, and the greatness of his burden, and the foundation of the house of God, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings. and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

25.1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

25.2 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, but not with a perfect heart.

25.3 And it came to pass, when the kingdom was firmly established in him, that he slew his servants that had smitten the king his father.

25.4 And he slew not their children. for as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where YHVH commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

25.5 Then Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them heads of fathers' houses, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, throughout all Judah and Benjamin. And he numbered them from twenty years old and upward. and he found in them three hundred thousand valiant men, able to go forth to war, able to handle spear and bow.

25.6 And he hired out of Israel a hundred thousand mighty men of valor for an hundred talents of silver.

25.7 And there came a man of God unto him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee. for YHVH is not with Israel, even all the children of Ephraim.

25.8 For if you come, do strong for the battle, God will cause you to stumble before the enemy, for God has power to help and to overthrow.

25.9 And Amaziah said unto the man of God, What shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the host of Israel? And he said, O man of God, YHVH hath given thee much more than this.

25.10 And Amaziah separated them from the army that came to him from Ephraim, to go to their place. and their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned to their place in great anger.

25.11 Then Amaziah strengthened himself, and led his people out, and went to the Valley of Salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

25.12 And the children of Judah took ten thousand alive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, and they were all dashed in pieces.

25.13 And the men of the army which Amaziah the king of his people had sent back to war, and they smote the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Bethhoron, and slew three thousand of them, and took much spoil.

25.14 And it came to pass, after that Amaziah came from smiting the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up for himself as gods, and worshipped them, and burnt incense unto them.

25.15 And the anger of YHVH was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought the gods of the people, which have not delivered their people out of thine hand?

25.16 And it came to pass, when he spake unto him, that he said unto him, The king's counsellor hath appointed thee to cease. why shouldest thou strike thee? And the prophet ceased, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

25.17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took counsel, and sent to Joash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Let us see each other face to face.

25.18 And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife. and let a wild beast that was in Lebanon pass by, and trample the thistle.

25.19 You said, "Behold, you have defeated Edom, and your heart is lifted up to be heavy. Now return to your house. Why should you provoke evil, that you should fall, you and Judah with you?"

25.20 But Amaziah did not hear that it was from God, to the intent that it might be put to death by his hand, because they sought the gods of Edom.

25.21 And Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Bethshemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

25.22 And Judah was defeated before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

25.23 And Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Bethshemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

25.24 All the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God, with Edom the servant, and the treasures of the king's house, and the children of Iberoth, and the inhabitants of Samaria.

25.25 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash the son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

25.26 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

25.27 Now after that Amaziah turned away from following YHVH, they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish. and they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

25.28 And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

26.1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

26.2 He built Eloth and settled it in Judah after the king slept with his fathers.

26.3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. and his mother's name was Jehieliah of Jerusalem.

26.4 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.

26.5 And it came to pass, that they sought God in the days of Zechariah, who understood the creation of God. and in the days of them that sought YHVH, God prospered them.

26.6 And he went out and fought against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

26.7 And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and against the

26.8 And the Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah, and his name spread even to the coming of Egypt, for he held it up to the height.

26.9 And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, and at the Valley Gate, and at the Angle, and strengthened them.

26.10 And he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many groves. for he had much cattle. and in the lowland and in the plain he had husbandmen, and vineyards in the mountains and in Carmel. for he loved the land.

26.11 And Uzziah had a mighty army, fit for war, by divisions, according to their number, under the hand of Joel the scribe, and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's officers.

26.12 All the heads of the fathers' houses, mighty men of valor, were one thousand six hundred.

26.13 And with them was an army of three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, mighty men of valor, to help the king against the enemy.

26.14 And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the army shields, and spears, and helmets, and breastplates, and bows, and slings.

26.15 And he made plans in Jerusalem, planning to build towers and towers to be on the corners to shoot arrows and large stones. And his name went out far and wide, because he was a great helper, so that he was strong.

26.16 And when he was strong, his heart was lifted up unto his destruction, and he transgressed against YHVH his God, and came into the temple of YHVH to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

26.17 And after him came Azariah the priest, and with him fourscore priests of YHVH, mighty men of valor.

26.18 And they stood up against Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It is not for thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto YHVH, but for the priests the sons of Aaron, that keep the sanctuary, to burn incense. go out of the temple. for thou hast exalted thyself, and thou hast not the honour of YHVH God.

26.19 And Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and was wroth with the priests. and the leprosy broke out in his forehead before the priests in the house of YHVH, from above the altar of incense.

26.20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead. and they thrust him out thence, and he also was driven out, because YHVH had touched him.

26.21 And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in the house of the pure, being a leper. for he was cut off from the house of YHVH. and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land.

26.22 The rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

26.23 And Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings. for they said, He is a leper. and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

27.1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hirusa, the daughter of Zadok.

27.2 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, according to all that his father Uzziah had done. only he entered not into the temple of YHVH. but the people made yet more unwholesome things.

27.3 He built the upper gate of the house of YHVH, and on the wall of the cloud he built for Rabbah.

27.4 And he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and in the plains he built forts and towers.

27.5 And he fought with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. and the children of Ammon gave him that year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. And the children of Ammon returned him this, and in the second and third year.

27.6 And Jotham waxed strong, because he prepared his ways before YHVH his God.

27.7 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars and his ways, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

27.8 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

27.9 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.

28.1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. and he did not that which was right in the sight of YHVH, like David his father.

28.2 And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made masks for the gods.

28.3 And he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his sons in the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen whom YHVH cast out before the children of Israel.

28.4 And he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

28.5 And YHVH his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria, who smote him, and took a great captivity of him, and brought it to Damascus. and he also delivered him into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.

28.6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah an hundred and twenty thousand in one day, all that were valiant men. because they forsook YHVH God of their fathers.

28.7 And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king's son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah the king's second.

28.8 And the children of Israel saved of their brethren two hundred thousand women, sons and daughters, and took away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.

28.9 And there was there a prophet of YHVH, whose name was Edad. and he went out before the host that came to Samaria, and said unto them, Behold, because of the wrath of YHVH God of your fathers, he hath delivered them into your hand. and ye have slain them with a fury that reacheth up to heaven.

28.10 And now ye, O children of Judah and Jerusalem, say, Let us bring the flocks for bondmen and bondwomen unto you. are ye not with yourselves guilty of trespass against YHVH your God?

28.11 Now therefore, Simon, return the captives which you have taken captive from your brethren. for the fierce anger of YHVH is upon you.

28.12 And some of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Jehohanan, Berechiah the son of Meshullam, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the army.

28.13 And they said unto them, Ye shall not bring the captives hither. for YHVH'S trespass is upon us. ye say, To add unto our sins and to our trespasses. for our trespass is great, and wrath is upon Israel.

28.14 And the captain left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the congregation.

28.15 And the men who were mentioned by name arose, and took the captives, and all their baggage, and clothed them with the spoil, and clothed them, and hid them, and ate them, and rose up, and filled them, and set them on asses, every one that was weak, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto their brethren, and returned to Samaria.

28.16 At that time king Ahaz sent to the kings of Assyria to help him.

28.17 And the Edomites came again, and smote Judah, and dwelt in captivity.

28.18 And the Philistines had made raids on the cities of the lowland and of the Negev of Judah, and had taken Bethshemesh, and Aijalon, and Gedor, and Shochoh with her towns, and Timnah with her towns, and Gamzo with her towns, and dwelt there.

28.19 For YHVH brought Judah into subjection because of Ahaz king of Israel, because he troubled Judah, and transgressed against YHVH.

28.20 And Tiglath-pilneser king of Assyria came up against him, and distressed him, but could not prevail.

28.21 For Ahaz took away a portion of the house of YHVH, and of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria, and not to help him.

28.22 And in the time of his distress, and he added to the burden of YHVH, even King Ahaz

28.23 And he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him. and he said, The gods of the kings of Syria help them. I will sacrifice unto them, and they will help me. and they shall be to him a stumblingblock, and to all Israel.

28.24 And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of YHVH, and made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

28.25 And in every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense unto other gods, and provoked to anger YHVH God of his fathers.

28.26 Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

28.27 And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, in Jerusalem. for they brought him not into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel. and Hezekiah his son reigned in his stead.

29.1 Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abia, the daughter of Zechariah.

29.2 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, according to all that David his father had done.

29.3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of YHVH and repaired them.

29.4 And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the street of the east.

29.5 And Shimei the Levite said unto them, Sanctify yourselves now, and sanctify the house of YHVH God of your fathers, and bring forth the filth out of the sanctuary.

29.6 For our fathers have transgressed, and done evil in the sight of YHVH our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned their faces from the tabernacle of YHVH, and have turned their backs.

29.7 They also shut the doors of the temple and put out the lamps, and did not burn incense or offer burnt offerings in the sanctuary to the God of Israel.

29.8 And the wrath of YHVH was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he delivered them to desolation and hissing, as ye see with your own eyes.

29.9 And behold, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters have gone into captivity for this.

29.10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with YHVH God of Israel, that the fierceness of his anger may turn away from him.

29.11 My sons, do not be discouraged, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him, to minister to him, and to be his ministers and to burn incense.

29.12 Then the Levites arose, Mehet the son of Amasi, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites. and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehallelel. and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah.

29.13 And of the sons of Elizaphan, Shimri and Joel. and of the sons of Asaph, Zechariah and Mattaniah.

29.14 And of the sons of Heman; Jehuel and Shimei. and of the sons of Jeduthun; Shemaiah and Uzziel.

29.15 And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king by the words of YHVH, to cleanse the house of YHVH.

29.16 And the priests came into the inner part of the house of YHVH to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of YHVH into the court of the house of YHVH. and the Levites received it, to carry it out into the brook Kidron.

29.17 And they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the house of YHVH, and sanctified the house of YHVH eight days, and on the sixteenth day of the first month they finished.

29.18 Then they came in to King Hezekiah and said, “Let us cleanse the entire house of YHVH, the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, the altar of the congregation and all its utensils.

29.19 And all the vessels that king Ahaz in his reign did cast away, we have prepared and sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of YHVH.

29.20 Then King Hezekiah arose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of YHVH.

29.21 And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. and he said unto the sons of Aaron the priests, that they should offer upon the altar of YHVH.

29.22 And they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it upon the altar. and they killed the gods, and sprinkled the blood upon the altar. and they killed the sheep, and sprinkled the blood upon the altar.

29.23 And they presented the goats for the sin offering before the king and the assembly, and laid their hands on them.

29.24 And the priests slaughtered them, and sprinkled their blood upon the altar, to make atonement for all Israel. for the king said unto all Israel, The burnt offering and the sin offering.

29.25 And he set the Levites in the house of YHVH with cymbals, harps, and psalteries, according to the commandment of David, and of the king's counsel, and of Nathan the prophet, that the commandment was of YHVH by his prophets.

29.26 And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

29.27 And Hezekiah said, Offer the burnt offering upon the altar. and when the burnt offering began, the song of YHVH began, and the trumpets, and with the instruments of David king of Israel.

29.28 And all the congregation shall bow down, and the song shall be sung, and the trumpets shall sound, until the burnt offering is finished.

29.29 And when he had finished, the king and all who were with him bowed down and worshiped.

29.30 Then Hezekiah the king and the princes said to the Levites, Praise YHVH with the words of David, and lift up the breastplate, and praise with joy, and bow down, and worship.

29.31 Then Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have filled your hands unto YHVH. come near, and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of YHVH. And the congregation brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and every willing heart brought a burnt offering.

29.32 And the number of the burnt offerings which the congregation brought was seventy rams, an hundred lambs, two hundred lambs, all these for a burnt offering to YHVH.

29.33 And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep.

29.34 Only the priests were few, and could not strip all the burnt offering. and their brethren the Levites strengthened them, until the work was finished, and until the priests sanctified themselves. for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests.

29.35 And he offered in abundance the fat of peace offerings, and the burnt offerings, and prepared the service of the house of YHVH.

29.36 And Hezekiah and all the people rejoiced that God had prepared for the people, for the thing came suddenly.

30.1 And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of YHVH at Jerusalem, to keep the passover unto YHVH God of Israel.

30.2 And the king, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, took counsel to keep the passover in the second month.

30.3 For they could not do it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, and the people had not gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.

30.4 And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation.

30.5 And they made a decree to proclaim throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to YHVH God of Israel at Jerusalem. for they had not kept it for many, as it is written.

30.6 And the posts went with letters from the hand of the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the king's commandment, saying, Children of Israel, return unto YHVH God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant that are escaped of you out of the hand of the kings of Assyria.

30.7 And be not like your fathers, and like your brethren, who trespassed against YHVH God of their fathers, and gave them up to his name, as ye see.

30.8 Now therefore be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were. yield yourselves unto YHVH, and come into his sanctuary, which he hath hallowed for ever. and serve YHVH your God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you.

30.9 For when you return to YHVH, your brothers and your children will be shown mercy by those who took them captive, and will return to this land. For YHVH your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you if you return to him.

30.10 And the Hebrews ran from city to city in the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, even to Zebulun, and they mocked them and mocked them.

30.11 But some of the people of Shear, Manasseh, and Mesopotamia submitted and came to Jerusalem.

30.12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandments of the king and the princes by the word of YHVH.

30.13 And a great multitude gathered together at Jerusalem to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation.

30.14 And they took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the censers they took away, and cast them into the brook Kidron.

30.15 And they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the second month. and the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, and brought the burnt offering into the house of YHVH.

30.16 And they stood in their place according to their judgment, according to the law of Moses the man of God. the priests sprinkled the blood from the hand of the Levites.

30.17 For there was much in the congregation that had not sanctified themselves, and the Levites in the slaughtering of the passover for every one that was not clean, to sanctify unto YHVH.

30.18 For a great multitude of the people, even of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar and Zebulun, had not purified themselves, for they ate the Passover otherwise than as it is written. for Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good Lord will atone for

30.19 With all his heart he prepared to seek God, the Lord God of his fathers, and not according to the purity of the sanctuary.

30.20 And YHVH hearkened unto Hezekiah, and healed the people.

30.21 And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness, and praised YHVH day by day, the Levites and the priests with loud instruments unto YHVH.

30.22 And Hezekiah spake unto all the wise Levites, that had understanding of the Lord, that they should eat the feast seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings, and making confession unto the Lord God of their fathers.

30.23 And all the congregation took counsel to keep other seven days, and they kept seven days of joy.

30.24 For Hezekiah king of Judah did offer unto the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep. and the princes did offer unto the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep. and the priests sanctified themselves in abundance.

30.25 And all the congregation of Judah, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the congregation that came out of Israel, and the strangers that came out of the land of Israel, and that dwelt in Judah, rejoiced.

30.26 And there was great joy in Jerusalem. for since the days of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem.

30.27 Then the Levitical priests stood up and blessed the people, and he heard their voice, and their prayer came up to his holy dwelling place, to heaven.

31.1 Now when all this was finished, all Israel who were present went out to the cities of Judah and broke down the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and pulled down the high places and the altars throughout all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim and Manasseh, until they were all gone. Then all the Israelites returned, each to his own possession, to their own cities.

31.2 And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites in their courses, every man according to his service, for the priests and the Levites, for the burnt offerings, and for the peace offerings, to minister, and to give thanks, and to praise, in the gates of the tents of YHVH.

31.3 And the king's portion from his substance for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of YHVH.

31.4 And he said to the people, The inhabitants of Jerusalem, To give the portion of the priests and the Levites, That they might strengthen themselves in the law of YHVH.

31.5 And when the word came, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and honey, and all the increase of the field, and the tithe of all things.

31.6 And the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things, which they sanctified unto YHVH their God, and laid them in heaps.

31.7 In the third month they began to lay the foundation, and in the seventh month they finished it.

31.8 And when Hezekiah and the princes came, and saw the heaps, they blessed YHVH, and his people Israel.

31.9 And Hezekiah demanded of the priests and the Levites concerning the treasuries.

31.10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok said unto him, Since the beginning of the offering to bring into the house of YHVH, I have eaten and am full, and have left over unto much. for YHVH hath blessed his people, and there is left over this multitude.

31.11 And Hezekiah said to prepare chambers in the house of YHVH; and they prepared them.

31.12 And they brought in the contributions, the tithes, and the dedicated things with faith. and over them was Chunaniahu the Levite, and Shimei Ahijah the second.

31.13 And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahat, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Semachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were officers under the hand of Conaniah, and Shimei his brethren, in the charge of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.

31.14 And the son of Jamna the Levite, the gatekeeper toward the east, called for the offerings of God, to give the offering of YHVH, and the most holy things.

31.15 And next to him were Eden, and Menahem, and Jeshua, and Shemaiah, and Amariah, and Shechinah, in the cities of the priests, in trust to give to their brethren in divisions, both great and small.

31.16 Besides the males from three years old and upward, all who came into the house of YHVH to minister, day by day, in their service, in their courses, according to their divisions.

31.17 And the priests, by their fathers' houses, and the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, in their courses in their divisions,

31.18 And let them be circumcised in all their little ones, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, in every congregation. for by their faith they shall be sanctified.

31.19 And to the sons of Aaron the priests, in the suburbs of their cities, in every city, were men that were expressed by name, to give portions to every male among the priests, and to every one that was born among the Levites.

31.20 And Hezekiah did so throughout all Judah, and did that which was good, and right, and true before YHVH his God.

31.21 And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandment to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

32.1 After these words and these truths, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fenced cities, and said unto them, Come up unto me.

32.2 And Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and set his face to fight against Jerusalem.

32.3 And he took counsel with his princes and his men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city, and they helped him.

32.4 And they gathered a great multitude, and stopped all the fountains, and the brook that flowed through the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?

32.5 And he strengthened himself, and built up all the breach of the wall, and went up upon the towers, and broke through another wall, and strengthened the whole city of David, and made a great garrison, and guards.

32.6 And he set captains over the people, and gathered them together unto him in the street of the gate of the city, and spake kindly unto them, saying,

32.7 Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria and all the multitude that is with him, for our people are more than he.

32.8 His people are a branch of flesh, and our people are the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people relied on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

32.9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, he who was at Lachish, and all his dominion with him, to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah that were in Jerusalem, saying,

32.10 Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do you trust, that you remain besieged in Jerusalem?

32.11 Does not Hezekiah persuade you to die by famine and by thirst, saying, “The Lord our God will deliver us from the hand of the king of Assyria?”

32.12 Did not Hezekiah remove his high places and his altars, and say to Judah and Jerusalem, “You shall worship before one altar and burn incense on it?”

32.13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands able to deliver their land out of my hand?

32.14 Who is there among all the gods of these nations which my fathers have destroyed, that is able to deliver his people out of mine hand? for your God is able to deliver you out of mine hand.

32.15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you thus, neither believe him. for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of mine hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. neither shall your god deliver you out of mine hand.

32.16 And his servants spake yet again against YHVH God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

32.17 And he wrote letters to reproach YHVH God of Israel, and to say of him, As the nations of the lands, which delivered not their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of his hand.

32.18 And they cried with a loud voice in Judah unto the people of Jerusalem that were upon the wall, to terrify them, and to affright them, that they might take the city.

32.19 And they shall speak of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the people of the earth, the work of man's hands.

32.20 Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed for this, and the heavens cried out,

32.21 And YHVH sent an angel, which cut off every mighty man of valor, and captain, and ruler in the camp of the king of Assyria. and he returned with shame unto his own land, and came into the house of his god. and they brought him out of his bowels, and there they smote him with the sword.

32.22 And YHVH saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria, and from the hand of all that were against them round about.

32.23 And many brought offerings to YHVH to Jerusalem, and to Magdanoth, to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he exalted him in the sight of all the nations after him.

32.24 In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death, and prayed unto YHVH, and said unto him. and he gave him a sign.

32.25 And Hezekiah returned not as a camel unto him. for his heart was lifted up. and wrath came upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

32.26 And Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of YHVH came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

32.27 And Hezekiah had very great riches and honor. and he made him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant vessels.

32.28 And threshing floors for the grain, and wine, and fattening places for all kinds of cattle, and for cattle and flocks for the fattening places.

32.29 And he built him cities, and possessed flocks and herds in abundance. for God had given him very much substance.

32.30 And Hezekiah repaired the outlet of the waters of the upper Gihon, and brought them down to the west to the city of David. and Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

32.31 And God left off at the counsel of the princes of Babylon, who sent him to inquire of the miracle that was in the land, to test him, to know all that was in his heart.

32.32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

32.33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chief sepulchres of the sons of David. and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

33.1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.

33.2 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, according to the abominations of the heathen whom YHVH cast out before the children of Israel.

33.3 And he returned and built up the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.

33.4 And he built altars in the house of YHVH, of which YHVH had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.

33.5 And he built altars to all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of YHVH.

33.6 And he made his sons pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and in the groves, and in the sorceries, and in the sorceries of the sorcerers, and in the sorcery to work much evil in the sight of YHVH, to provoke him to anger.

33.7 And he set the graven image that he had made in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name there.

33.8 And I will no more remove the foot of Israel from off the land which I have appointed for your fathers; only if they will observe to do all that I have commanded you, even all the law, and the statutes, and the judgments, by the hand of Moses.

33.9 And Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to do evil like the nations whom YHVH had destroyed before the children of Israel.

33.10 And YHVH spake unto Manasseh and unto his people. but they hearkened not.

33.11 And YHVH brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, and they took Manasseh in chains, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

33.12 And when he was in distress, he humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.

33.13 And he prayed unto him, and made supplication unto him. and he heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem to his kingdom. and Manasseh knew that YHVH he was God.

33.14 After this he built an outer wall to the city of David, westward from Gihon to the river, and to the entrance of the fish gate, and he went around and made it very high, and he placed captains of war in all the fortified cities of Judah.

33.15 And he took away the strange gods, and the image out of the house of YHVH, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of YHVH, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.

33.16 And he repaired the altar of YHVH, and offered peace offerings and thank offerings thereon, and said unto Judah, Serve YHVH God of Israel.

33.17 But the people still sacrificed on the high places only to YHVH their God.

33.18 Now the rest of the words of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake unto him in the name of YHVH God of Israel, these are the words of the kings of Israel.

33.19 And his prayer, and his supplication, and all his sin, and his high places, where he built high places, and set up groves and images before his enemies, behold, they are written among the words of my covenant.

33.20 And Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

33.21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.

33.22 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, as Manasseh his father had done. and Amon sacrificed unto all the graven images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them.

33.23 And he humbled not himself before YHVH, as his father Manasseh humbled himself. for he trespassed greatly.

33.24 And his servants bound him, and slew him in his own house.

33.25 And the people of the land broke all the bonds against king Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.

34.1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

34.2 And he did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, and walked in the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

34.3 And in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet a youth, he began to seek the God of David his father. and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, and the groves, and the images, and the aspsalms.

34.4 And they brake down before him the altars of Baalim and of the Hamathites that were above them, and he cut down the asherahs, and the graven images, and the images, and brake them in pieces, and cast their sacrifices upon the graves.

34.5 And he burned the bones of the priests upon the altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.

34.6 And in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, in the mount of their habitations round about

34.7 And he brake in pieces the altars, and the groves, and the images, and cut down all the groves throughout all the land of Israel, and dwelt in Jerusalem.

34.8 And in the eighteenth year of his reign, to cleanse the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Ajahah, and Maaseiah the ruler of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of YHVH his God.

34.9 And they came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the thresholds had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

34.10 And they gave it to the workmen that did the work, the overseers of the house of YHVH, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of YHVH, to inspect and to strengthen the house.

34.11 And they gave to the carpenters and the masons to buy quarried stone and timber for the joints, and to repair the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

34.12 And the men faithfully did the work, and over them were overseers Jahath and Obadiah, Levites of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah, and Shammah of the sons of the Kohathites, for ever. and the Levites were all skillful with instruments of music.

34.13 And over the bearers, and over the overseers, and over all that wrought in the work, and for the work, and over the Levites, and over the scribes, and over the officers, and over the gatekeepers.

34.14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of YHVH, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of YHVH in the hand of Moses.

34.15 Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of YHVH. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.

34.16 And Shaphan brought the book to the king, and brought the king word again, saying, All that is committed to the hand of thy servants they do.

34.17 And they melted down the silver that was found in the house of YHVH, and delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.

34.18 And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath given me a book, and Shaphan read it before the king.

34.19 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the law, that he rent his clothes.

34.20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah the king's servant, saying,

34.21 Go, inquire of YHVH for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found. for great is the wrath of YHVH that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of YHVH, to do according to all that is written in this book.

34.22 Then Hilkiah and King Ashtar went to Hilda the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe, who lived in Jerusalem in the Mishnah, and they spoke to her on this basis.

34.23 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you unto me,

34.24 Thus saith YHVH, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

34.25 Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. and my wrath shall be kindled in this place, and shall not be quenched.

34.26 And to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of YHVH, thus shall ye say unto him, Thus saith YHVH God of Israel, The words which thou hast heard.

34.27 Because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before me and tore your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares YHVH.

34.28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the evil that I will bring on this place and on its inhabitants. And they shall return to the king with a message.

34.29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

34.30 And the king went up to the house of YHVH, and all the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small. and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of YHVH.

34.31 And the king stood by his seat, and made a covenant before YHVH, to walk after YHVH, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

34.32 And he made all that were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

34.33 And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve YHVH their God. all his days they departed not from following YHVH God of their fathers.

35.1 And Josiah kept a passover unto YHVH in Jerusalem. and they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.

35.2 And the priests stood in their duties, and strengthened them for the service of the house of YHVH.

35.3 And he said unto the Levites that built all Israel, which are holy unto YHVH, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built. there is no burden upon your shoulder. now serve YHVH your God, and his people Israel.

35.4 And prepare for your fathers' houses according to your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.

35.5 And you shall stand in the sanctuary according to the divisions of the fathers' houses of your brethren the people, and according to the portion of the fathers' houses of the Levites.

35.6 And kill the passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brethren, to do according to the commandment of YHVH by the hand of Moses.

35.7 And Josiah raised up for the people, lambs and kids, all for the Passover offerings, for all that were present, thirty thousand, and three thousand oxen, of the king's substance.

35.8 And his princes gave to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites, Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, unto the priests, a thousand and six hundred for the passover offerings, and three hundred oxen.

35.9 And Conaniahu, and Shemaiah, and Nethaneel his brethren, and Hashabiah, and Jeiel, and Jozabad, the chief of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for the passover offerings five thousand, and five hundred oxen.

35.10 And the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites in their courses, according to the king's commandment.

35.11 And they killed the passover, and the priests cast them out of their hands, and the Levites stripped them.

35.12 And they removed the burnt offering, and gave it to the divisions of the fathers' houses of the people, to offer unto YHVH, as it is written in the book of Moses, and to visit.

35.13 And they boiled the passover with fire according to the ordinance, and the holy things they boiled in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and distributed to all the people.

35.14 And afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests, because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were to offer the burnt offering and the fat until night; and the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.

35.15 And the singers the sons of Asaph were in their station, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Iddo the king's seer, and the gatekeepers, gate by gate, they had no need to depart from their service, for their brethren the Levites prepared for them.

35.16 And all the service of YHVH was prepared that day, to keep the passover, and to offer burnt offerings upon the altar of YHVH, according to the commandment of king Josiah.

35.17 And the children of Israel that were present kept the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.

35.18 And there was no passover kept like it in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did any of the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

35.19 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah this Passover was held.

35.20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the house, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish on the Euphrates. and Josiah went out to meet him.

35.21 And he sent messengers unto him, saying, What have I to do with thee, O king of Judah? Thou art not this day against thee, but against the house of my war, and against God, saith he to me, Fear me no more, for the God who is with me, and let him not destroy thee.

35.22 And Josiah did not turn his face from him, but disguised himself to fight against him, and did not listen to the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and he came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

35.23 And they shot at king Josiah. And the king said unto his servants, Bring me hither; for I am very sick.

35.24 And his servants took him out of the chariot, and put him in his own second chariot, and brought him to Jerusalem. and he died, and was buried in the sepulchres of his fathers. and all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

35.25 And Jeremiah lamented for Josiah. and all the princes and the ministers lamented for Josiah unto this day, and made them a statute for Israel. and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.

35.26 And the rest of the acts of Josiah and his goodness, as it is written in the law of YHVH.

35.27 Now his acts, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

36.1 And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father's stead in Jerusalem.

36.2 He was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

36.3 And the king of Egypt shall take him away from Jerusalem, and shall punish the land with a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

36.4 And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. and Necho took Jehoahaz his brother, and brought him out of Egypt.

36.5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of YHVH his God.

36.6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him with fetters to carry him to Babylon.

36.7 And Nebuchadnezzar brought of the vessels of the house of YHVH to Babylon, and put them in his temple in Babylon.

36.8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that were found against him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.

36.9 Jehoiachin was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of the Lord.

36.10 And at the end of the year king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of YHVH, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

36.11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.

36.12 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH his God, and did not turn from the voice of Jeremiah the prophet, from the mouth of YHVH.

36.13 And also against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God, he hardened his neck, and hardened his heart from turning unto YHVH God of Israel.

36.14 Moreover all the chief priests and the people transgressed exceedingly, according to all the abominations of the heathen, and defiled the house of YHVH, which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.

36.15 And YHVH God of their fathers sent upon them by the hand of his angels, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place.

36.16 And they mocked the angels of God, and despised his words, and mocked his prophets, until the wrath of YHVH arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

36.17 And he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or old virgin, but gave all into his hand.

36.18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of YHVH, and the treasures of the king, and of his princes, all he brought to Babylon.

36.19 And they burned the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and all the palaces thereof burned they with fire, and all the goodly vessels thereof utterly destroyed.

36.20 And he carried away the remnant that escaped the sword to Babylon, and they became servants to him and his sons until the reign of the king of the kingdom of Persia.

36.21 To fulfill the word of YHVH by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths, all the days of her sabbaths, to fulfill seventy years.

36.22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, to fulfill the word of YHVH by the mouth of Jeremiah, YHVH stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, and he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also by letter, saying,

36.23 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath YHVH God of heaven given me; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people, that YHVH his God is with him, and he shall go up?
