1 THESSALONIANS 1 1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Ihsou Christ: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Ihsou Christ. 2 We always give thanks to God for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers, 3 mentioning without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Ihsou Christ, in the sight of our God and Father. 4 For we know, brethren beloved of God, your election; 5 that our gospel was not preached to you in the not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sakes. 6 And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit: 7 So that ye became ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place, your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we need not say anything. 9 For they themselves declare about us what kind of entrance we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Ihsou, who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1 THESSALONIANS 2 1 For you know, brothers, our entrance to you, that it was not in vain. 2 But even though we had suffered and been insulted at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much struggling. 3 For our appeal did not come from deceit or from impurity or in deceit. 4 But as we were approved by God to be trusted in the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts. 5 For we never came with flattering words, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed, God is witness. 6 Nor seeking glory from men, either from you or from others, as if we were burdensome apostles of Christ. 7 But we were gentle among you, as a nurse cherishes her own children. 8 So, being affectionately affectionate to you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own souls, because you became dear to us. 9 For you remember, brothers, our labor and labor: for working night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God. 10 You are witnesses, and God is as well, how holy and just and blameless we were to you who believe. 11 As you know, each one of you, as a father does his own children, was exhorting you, exhorting you, and testifying, 12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you to his own kingdom and glory. 13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which is at work in you. 14 For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Ihsou. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they also suffered from the Jews, 15 who killed both the Lord Ihsou and the prophets, and persecuted us, and are displeasing to God and contrary to all men, 16 forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins forever. The wrath has come upon them to the full. 17 But we, brethren, being bereaved of you for a season, in person, not in heart, we sought rather to see your face with much desire. 18 For we would have come to you, I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us. 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not you also, in the presence of our Lord Ihsou Christ at his appearing? 20 For ye are our glory and joy. 1 THESSALONIANS 3 1 After we had been there for a long time, we decided to be left alone in Athens. 2 We sent Timothy, our brother and God's servant and fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and to ask for your faith. 3 So that we would not be ashamed of these afflictions, for you know that we are in this situation. 4 For when we were with you, we told you in advance that we were going to suffer, just as it happened, and you know. 5 For this reason I, being longing for you, sent to know your faith, lest perhaps the tempter have tempted you, and our labor be in vain. 6 But since Timothy came to us from you and brought us good news about your faith and love, and that you always have good memories of us, longing to see us, just as we also long to see you, 7 we have been asking for you, brothers, in all our distress and need because of your faith, 8 for we are alive now, if you stand firm in the Lord. 9 For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all our joy, for we rejoice for you before our God, 10 night and day praying exceedingly, that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith? 11 Now may our God and Father and our Lord Ihsou Christ direct our way to you. 12 And may the Lord make you abound and abound in love for one another and for all, as we also do for you, 13 to the end that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father in the presence of our Lord Ihsou Christ with all his saints. 1 THESSALONIANS 4 1 Now we ask you, brothers, and beseech you in the Lord Ihsou, that, as you received from us how you ought to walk and please God, you would abound more and more. 2 For you know what commands we gave you through the Lord Ihsou. 3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from fornication; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 not going beyond and taking advantage of his brother in a real way, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also told you before and warned you. 7 For God did not call us to impurity, but to holiness. 8 For he that disobeyeth, disobeyeth not man, but God, who hath given us his Holy Spirit. 9 But concerning brotherly love ye have no need that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another: 10 And ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia. But we beseech you, brethren, that ye be content, 11 and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 that ye may walk honorably toward them that are without, and be in need of no man. 13 But I would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, lest ye sorrow, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Ihsou died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Ihsou will God bring with him. 15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the presence of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore, encourage one another with these words. 1 THESSALONIANS 5 1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need for anyone to write to you. 2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction comes on them like a thorn in the stomach, and they will not escape. 4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that the day should overtake you like a thief. 5 You are all children of light and children of the day. I am not of the night or of darkness. 6 So then, let us not sleep, as others do, but let us wake up and be alert. 7 For those who sleep sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But since we are in the last days, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation, 9 For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Ihsou Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we live or die, we should live with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 12 Now we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you, 13 And to esteem them more than all the more in love, that ye may be at peace with one another for their work. 14 And we beseech you, brethren, admonish the unruly, admonish the fainthearted, bear with the weak, be long-suffering toward all men. 15 Not seeing that any return evil for evil unto any; but always follow that which is good, both to one another, and to all men. 16 Rejoice always; 17 Pray without ceasing; 18 In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Ihsou for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit; 20 Do not discourage prophecy; 21 Be always testing; hold fast to that which is good; 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 Now the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the presence of our Lord Ihsou Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. 25 Brothers, pray for us. 26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the holy brothers. 28 The grace of our Lord Ihsou Christ be with you. Amen.
