First Kings

1.1 And king David was old, and came in to the sea, and they covered him with garments, and he could not warm himself.

1.2 And his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and be a comfort to him, and let her lie in thy bosom, and be warm for my lord the king.

1.3 And they sought for a beautiful damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

1.4 And the damsel was exceedingly beautiful, and was a delight to the king, and served him. but the king knew it not.

1.5 But Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king. and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

1.6 And his father never grieved him, saying, Why hast thou done thus? And he also was very handsome, and he had a daughter after Absalom.

1.7 And he spoke to Joab the son of Zeruiah, and to Abiathar the priest, and they helped him after Adonijah.

1.8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

1.9 And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen, and offered sacrifices with the stone of the grove, which is by the well of the feet, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants.

1.10 And Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

1.11 Then Nathan said to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and our lord David does not know it?

1.12 Now therefore go, let me give you counsel, and save your soul, and the soul of your son Solomon.

1.13 Go and get thee to king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord the king, swear by thine own soul, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? and why then shouldest Adonijah reign?

1.14 Behold, you are still there talking with the king, and I will come after you and do what you say.

1.15 And Bathsheba came to the king into the chamber. and the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.

1.16 And Bathsheba bowed herself, and did obeisance unto the king. and the king said, What aileth thee?

1.17 And she said unto him, My lord, didst thou swear by YHVH thy God, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

1.18 And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knewest not.

1.19 And he sacrificed oxen, and fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and called all the king's sons, and Abiathar the priest, and Jehoiachin the captain of the host. but Solomon thy servant called he not.

1.20 And you, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon you to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

1.21 And it came to pass, when my lord the king slept with his fathers, that I and the sons of Solomon were sinners.

1.22 And, behold, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

1.23 And they told the king, saying, Behold, Nathan the prophet is come before the king, and he bowed himself to the king with his face to the ground.

1.24 And Nathan said, My lord the king, thou hast said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.

1.25 For he went down that day, and sacrificed oxen, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest. and, behold, they were eating and drinking before him; and they said, Long live king Adonijah.

1.26 But as for me, thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon,

1.27 If this thing be of my lord the king, and thou wilt not shew it unto thy servants who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

1.28 Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba, and let her come before the king, and let her stand before the king.

1.29 And the king swore, and said, As YHVH liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,

1.30 For as I swore to you by YHVH God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my place; so will I do this day.

1.31 Then Bathsheba bowed herself to the king, and said, "May my lord King David live forever."

1.32 Then King David said, Call for me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and let them come before the king.

1.33 And the king said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

1.34 And there Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anointed him king over Israel. and ye blew the trumpet, and said, God save king Solomon.

1.35 And you shall go up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall reign in my stead; and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah.

1.36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen, so saith YHVH God of my lord the king.

1.37 As YHVH was with my lord the king, so shall he be with Solomon, and shall make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

1.38 Then Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and they went with him on his back.

1.39 Then Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. and they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, Long live king Solomon.

1.40 And all the people went up after him, and the people profanely spake, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with their voice.

1.41 And Adonijah, and all the people that were with him, heard it, and they had finished eating. And Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, and said, Wherefore is the noise of the trumpet so loud?

1.42 While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came, and said, Adonijah, come; for you are a valiant man, and bring good tidings.

1.43 Then Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, But our lord King David has made Solomon king.

1.44 And the king sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Kerethi, and Pelethi; and they rode with him upon the king's mule.

1.45 And Zadok the priest anointed him, and the prophet gave him to the king in the belly. And they went up from there rejoicing, and the city roared. this is the sound that you heard.

1.46 And Solomon sat on the throne of the kingdom.

1.47 And the king's servants also came to bless our lord king David, saying, May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

1.48 And thus said the king, Blessed be YHVH God of Israel, which hath given this day one to sit upon my throne, and mine eyes to see.

1.49 Then all the servants who were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

1.50 But Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and took hold of the horns of the altar.

1.51 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon. and, behold, Ahaz taketh hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear to me this day, that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

1.52 And Solomon said, If the son be a mighty man, there shall not an hair of his head fall to the earth. but if evil be found in him, he shall die.

1.53 And king Solomon sent, and brought him down from the altar. and he came and bowed himself before king Solomon. and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.

2.1 And the days of David drew nigh that he should die. and he charged Solomon his son, saying,

2.2 I went the way of all the earth, and thou wast strong, and became a man.

2.3 And you shall keep the charge of YHVH your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn.

2.4 That YHVH may establish his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

2.5 And you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and put the blood of the battle in Salem, and put the blood of the battle in the girdle that was about his loins, and in the shoes that were on his feet.

2.6 And you shall do according to your wisdom, and shall not return him in peace, O king.

2.7 And shew kindness unto the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, that they may eat of my meat. for so they came unto me when I fled because of Absalom thy brother.

2.8 And, behold, with thee is Shemaiah the son of Gera, the son of the right hand of the chosen, and he cursed me with a grievous curse in the day that I went to Mahanaim. and he came down to meet me at Jordan, and I sware unto him by YHVH, saying, Surely I will kill thee with the sword.

2.9 And now do not cleanse him, for you are a wise man and know what you will do to him, and you will bring his return to Sheol with the blood of Saul.

2.10 And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

2.11 And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years. in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years.

2.12 And Solomon sat on the throne of David his father, and his reign was very great.

2.13 And Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, and said, Peace be unto thee. And he said, Peace be unto thee.

2.14 And he said, Speak to me, and thou shalt speak.

2.15 And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces upon the king. and the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's; for it was his from YHVH.

2.16 And now I ask one thing of thee. hide not thy face from me, nor say a word unto him.

2.17 And he said, Speak now to King Solomon, that he will not turn away from thee, but give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

2.18 And Bathsheba said, Well, I will speak for you to the king.

2.19 And Bathsheba came to king Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah. and the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself to her, and sat down on his throne. and he set a seat for the king's mother, and she sat on his right hand.

2.20 And she said, I ask one small question of thee. turn not away from me. And the king said unto her, Ask my mother, for I will not turn away from thee.

2.21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shanamitess be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife.

2.22 Then King Solomon answered and said to his mother, "Why do you ask Abishag the Shinamite for Adonijah, and ask him for the kingdom? For he is my older brother, and he and Abiathar the priest and Joab the son of Zeruiah are his brothers."

2.23 And king Solomon sware by YHVH, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if Adonijah speak this word out of his own heart.

2.24 And now, as YHVH liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and which hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

2.25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he smote him, and he died.

2.26 And to Abiathar the priest the king said, Thou hast sworn upon thy breast that thou art worthy of death. and I will not put thee to death this day, because thou bare the ark of YHVH GOD before David my father, and because thou hast fasted in all the days of my father.

2.27 And Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto YHVH, that he might fulfill the word of YHVH, which he spake concerning the house of Eli in Shilhah.

2.28 And it came to pass, that Joab had followed Adonijah, but had not followed Absalom. and Joab fled unto the tabernacle of YHVH, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

2.29 And it was told king Solomon that Joab had fled unto the tabernacle of YHVH, and, behold, he was by the altar. And Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.

2.30 And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of YHVH, and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come out. And he said, Nay; for I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus saith Joab, and thus answered me.

2.31 And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him, and take away the innocent blood, which Joab shed from me, and from my father's house.

2.32 And YHVH shall return his blood upon his own head, because he smote two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword. and my father David knew not that Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

2.33 And their blood shall return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever. and upon David, and upon his seed, and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever from YHVH.

2.34 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and smote him, and he died. and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

2.35 And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his stead over the army. and Zadok the priest the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

2.36 Then the king sent and called Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence hither and thither.

2.37 And it shall come to pass on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, that thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die. thy blood shall be upon thine own head.

2.38 And Shimei said unto the king, The thing is good. as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

2.39 And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of Shimei's servants ran away to Achish the son of Maacah king of Gath, and said to Shimei, Behold, thy servants are in Gath.

2.40 Then Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish to seek his servants. And Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.

2.41 And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and had dwelt there.

2.42 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Didst not I make thee swear by YHVH, and warn thee, saying, On the day thou goest out, and walkest whithersoever thou goest, know for certain that thou shalt surely die? And thou saidst unto me, I have heard well of the matter.

2.43 And why hast thou not kept the oath of YHVH, and the commandment which I commanded thee?

2.44 And the king said unto Shimei, Thou knowest all the evil that is in thine heart, which thou didst to David my father. and YHVH shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head.

2.45 And King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before YHVH for ever.

2.46 Then the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck him down, and he died. So the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

3.1 And Solomon married Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until she was his wife, to build his own house, and the house of YHVH, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

3.2 Only the people sacrificed on the high places, because no house had been built to the name of YHVH until those days.

3.3 And Solomon loved YHVH, walking in the statutes of David his father. only he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

3.4 And the king went to Gibeah to sacrifice there. for it was the great altar. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings upon that altar.

3.5 In Gibeon YHVH appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and said, Ask what I shall give you.

3.6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee, and hast kept for him this great mercy, and hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

3.7 And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king in the room of David my father. and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in.

3.8 And thy servant shall be in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, which cannot be numbered nor numbered for multitude.

3.9 And give thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad. for who is able to judge this thy great people?

3.10 And the thing pleased my lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

3.11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself many days, and hast not asked for thyself ten thousand, and hast not asked for the life of thine enemies, and hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment,

3.12 Behold, I have done according to thy words. behold, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart. so that there hath not been like thee before thee, neither after thee shall there arise like thee.

3.13 And I have also given you what you did not ask, both ten and honor, so that none of the kings has had the like of you all your days.

3.14 And if you walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David your father walked, then I will lengthen your days.

3.15 And Solomon awoke, and, behold, he had a dream. and he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of YHVH, and offered burnt offerings, and offered peace offerings, and made a feast unto all his servants.

3.16 Then two harlots came to the king and stood before him.

3.17 And the one woman said, My lord, I and this woman dwell in one house, and I will give birth with her in the house.

3.18 And it came to pass on the third day after I was delivered, that this woman also gave birth, and we were together. there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.

3.19 And this woman's son died the night she lay with him.

3.20 And thou arosest in the night, and took my son from me. and thy handmaid slept, and laid him in her bosom; and her dead son she laid in my bosom.

3.21 And I rose up in the morning to nurse my son, and, behold, he was dead. and when I considered him in the morning, behold, my son whom I bore was not.

3.22 And the other woman said, No, but the living son is the son of the dead. And you said this, not because your son is the dead son and the living son. And she spoke before the king.

3.23 And the king said, Thus saidst thou, This is the living son, and this is the dead son. and this thou hast said, This is not thy dead son, and this is the living son.

3.24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And the sword was brought before the king.

3.25 And the king said, Cut the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.

3.26 And the woman whose son was alive spoke to the king, because she longed for her son, and said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay the dead. And you have said this, both to me and to you, that it may not be so.

3.27 And the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and the dead thou shalt not slay. she is the mother thereof.

5.11 And he was wiser than all men, than Ethan the Achishite, and Heman, and Caleb, and Darda, the sons of Machul. and his name was in all nations round about.

5.12 And he spake three thousand proverbs, and his songs were five and a thousand.

5.13 And he spake of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall. and he spake of beasts, and of fowls, and of creeping things, and of fishes.

5.15 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon, when he heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father. for Hiram had loved David all his days.

5.16 And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

5.17 You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of YHVH his God because of the wars that surrounded him, until YHVH put them under the soles of his feet.

5.18 And now YHVH my God has given me rest, so that there is no evil or harm on my side.

5.19 And I purpose to build a house for the name of YHVH my God, as YHVH spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build the house for my name.

5.20 Now therefore command that they hew me cedars out of Lebanon, and my servants shall be with thy servants. and I will give thee hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt say. for thou knowest that there is none among us that knoweth how to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

5.21 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be YHVH this day, which hath given to David a wise son over this great people.

5.22 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard the things which thou hast sent unto me. I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of cypress.

5.23 My servants will come down from Lebanon to the sea, and I will bring them by sea to the place that you shall send me, and they will be broken there, and you shall carry them, and you shall do what I want to do, to give food to my household.

6.1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year, in the month, which is the second month, that Solomon was king over Israel, that he built the house of YHVH.

6.2 And the house that king Solomon built for YHVH was threescore cubits long, and twenty broad, and thirty cubits high.

6.3 And the porch before the temple of the house was twenty cubits long, and ten cubits broad, before the house.

6.4 And he made for the house windows of transparent, sealed

6.5 And he built on the wall of the house, he made the walls of the house round about, both the temple and the porch, and made ribs round about.

6.6 The first one was five cubits wide, and the second one was six cubits wide, and the third one was seven cubits wide, because he made gaps around the house so that it would not cling to the walls of the house.

6.7 And the house was built with his understanding, with a stone of Solomon's journey, and no hammer or axe or any tool of iron was heard in the house with his understanding.

6.8 The opening of the side of the porch was to the right side of the house, and the pillars were to go up to the porch, and from the porch to the three sides.

6.9 And he built the house, and finished it, and covered the house with beams and a porch of cedar.

6.10 And he built a porch over the whole house, five cubits high, and he covered the house with cedar beams.

6.11 And the word of YHVH came to Solomon, saying,

6.12 This house which thou art building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father.

6.13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.

6.14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.

6.15 And he built the walls of the house from the house with beams of cedar, from the floor of the house unto the walls of the porch. He covered the house with beams of cypress.

6.16 And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house with beams of cedar from the ground to the walls, and he built for himself a house of cedar for the most holy place.

6.17 And forty cubits was the house, that is, the sanctuary before it.

6.18 And cedar is within the house, a tangle of knots and buds springing up, all cedar, not a stone is seen.

6.19 And Deborah prepared the inner chamber of the house, to set there the ark of the covenant of YHVH.

7.15 And he made two pillars of brass. the height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits, and a line of twelve cubits did compass the other pillar.

7.16 And he made two chapiters to put upon the tops of the pillars, of beaten work of brass. the height of the one chapiter was five cubits, and the height of the other chapiter was five cubits.

7.17 Nets of network work, and wreaths of chain work, for the chapiters that were upon the top of the pillars. seven for the one chapiter, and seven for the other chapiter.

7.22 And on the top of the pillars was lily work; and the work of the pillars was finished.

7.23 And he made the sea ten cubits from brim to brim, a cubit round about, and five cubits high, and a rim of thirty cubits did compass it round about.

7.24 And under its brim there were ten cubits round about, compassing the sea round about, two rows of rings round about, the rings being cast in the casting thereof.

7.25 It stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east, with the sea above them and its dome behind them.

7.26 And his thickness was like a palm leaf, and his brim was like the brim of a cup of lilies, a thousand lilies.

7.27 And he made ten bases of brass. four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth of one base, and three cubits the height of one base.

7.28 And this is the work called the framework for them and the framework between the steps

7.29 And on the frames that were between the steps were lions, oxen, and cherubim; and on the steps above and below the lions and oxen were carved work.

7.30 And four bronze wheels for one machine, and axles of bronze, and four of its bearings, a shoulder for them under the laver, the shoulder cast beyond the man of the lyre.

7.31 And its mouth was from the house to the crown, and upward a cubit; and its mouth was of the same workmanship, a cubit and a half a cubit; and also upon its mouth were lattices, and their frames were square, not round.

7.32 And the four wheels under the frames, and the hands of the wheels in the machine, and the height of one wheel was a cubit and a cubit and a half.

7.33 And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot; their hands, and their backs, and their reins, and their reins, were all solid.

7.34 And four shoulders at the four corners of the one corner from the one corner to its shoulders.

7.35 And on the top of the bowl was a calf standing half a cubit high all around, and on the top of the bowl were its handles and its frames made of the same material.

7.36 And he made upon the panel thereof, and upon the borders thereof, cherubims, lions, and a turban, like a man's den, and a lion round about.

7.37 Thus he made the ten tables, one solid, one measure, one measure for each.

7.38 And he made ten lavers of brass, of forty baths. one laver contained four cubits. one laver was one laver upon the one machine for the ten machines.

7.39 And he set the tables, five on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house. and he set the sea on the right side of the house toward the east, over against the south.

7.40 And Hiram made the pots, and the lavers, and the fountains. and Hiram made an end of making all the work that he made for king Solomon for the house of YHVH.

7.42 And the four hundred rings for the two lattices, two rows of rings for one lattice, to cover the two capitals that were on the top of the pillars.

7.43 And the ten tables, and the ten tables for the tables.

7.44 And one sea, and twelve oxen under the sea.

7.45 And the pots, and the lavers, and the sprinklings, and all the vessels of the tabernacle, which Hiram made for king Solomon, for the house of YHVH, were of brass of brass.

7.46 In the plain of Jordan shall the king cast his lamentation in the depth of the earth between Succoth and Zarethan.

7.47 And Solomon made all the vessels exceedingly abundant; the weight of the brass was not found out.

7.48 And Solomon made all the vessels that were in the house of YHVH, the golden altar, and the table whereon the shewbread was, of gold.

7.49 And the lampstands, five on the right and five on the left, before the oracle, of gold, with the flowers, the lamps, and the tongs, of gold.

7.50 And the couches, and the snuffers, and the sprinkling bowls, and the spoons, and the censers, of pure gold. and the hinges for the doors of the inner house, for the most holy place, for the doors of the house, for the sanctuary, of gold.

7.51 And all the work that king Solomon made for the house of YHVH was finished. and Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated, the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, he put among the treasures of the house of YHVH.

8.1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of YHVH out of the city of David, which is Zion.

8.2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon in the month of Athenians, in the feast, which is the seventh month.

8.3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.

8.4 And they brought up the ark of YHVH, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle. and the priests and the Levites brought them up.

8.5 And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled with him before the ark, sacrificed sheep and oxen, which could not be told nor numbered for multitude.

8.6 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of YHVH unto his place, into the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.

8.7 For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its contents above.

8.8 And the curtains were drawn up, and the ends of the curtains were seen from the sanctuary over against the wall, and they were not seen without. and there they are unto this day.

8.9 There is nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there with the sword, which YHVH made with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

8.10 And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of YHVH.

8.11 And the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud. for the glory of YHVH had filled the house of YHVH.

8.12 Then said Solomon, YHVH said unto him that dwelleth in the thick darkness,

8.13 Son, I have built you a house of dung, a place for you to dwell forever.

8.14 And the king turned his face, and blessed all the congregation of Israel. and all the congregation of Israel stood.

8.15 And he said, Blessed be YHVH God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and with his hand was fulfilled, saying,

8.16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build an house, that my name might be there. but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

8.17 And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of YHVH God of Israel.

8.18 And YHVH said unto David my father, Because that it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well, because it was in thine heart.

8.19 Only you shall not build the house; but your son who shall come forth out of your loins, he shall build the house for my name.

8.20 And YHVH hath established his word which he spake, and I have set me up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as YHVH promised, and have built the house for the name of YHVH God of Israel.

8.21 And he shall set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of YHVH, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

8.22 And Solomon stood before the altar of YHVH in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

8.23 And he said, O LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath. keeping covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart.

8.24 Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou spakest unto him, and hast spoken it with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day.

8.25 And now, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man before me to sit on the throne of Israel. if only thy sons take heed to their way, to walk before me as thou hast walked before me.

8.26 And now, O God of Israel, let thy words, I pray thee, be confirmed, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.

8.27 For truly God dwells on the earth. The heavens and the heavens of heavens cannot contain this house which I have built.

8.28 And have regard to the prayer of your servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry, and to the prayer which your servant prayeth before you this day.

8.29 That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there. that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.

8.30 And hearken unto the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place. and thou shalt hear in heaven thy dwelling place, and shalt hear, and forgive.

8.31 If a man sins against his neighbor, and brings a gift to his god, and brings the gift before your altar in this house,

8.32 Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, to condemn the wicked, to recompense his way upon his own head, and to justify the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

8.33 When your people Israel are defeated by an enemy who has sinned against you, and they turn back to you and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this house,

8.34 Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.

8.35 When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee, yet shall they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou hearest them.

8.36 Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast made known unto them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

8.37 If there be famine in the land, or if there be locusts, or caterpillar

8.38 Whatever prayer, whatever supplication there may be for any man, for all thy people Israel, which shall know every one that toucheth his heart, and spreadeth forth his hands toward this house,

8.39 Then hear thou, O heaven, thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest. for thou only knowest the hearts of all men.

8.40 That they may fear thee all the days that they live upon the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

8.41 And also to the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake.

8.42 For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm, and shall come and pray toward this house.

8.43 Hear thou, O heaven, thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth unto thee for. that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel, and to know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

8.44 For when thy people go out to war against their enemy by the way which thou shalt send them, they shall pray unto YHVH toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name.

8.45 And thou heardest, O heaven, their prayer and their supplication, and didst judge them.

8.46 If they sin against you, for there is no man who does not sin, and you are displeased with them, and you deliver them before the enemy, and they are carried away captive to the land of the enemy, far or near.

8.47 And they shall bring their heart to remembrance in the land whither they were carried captives, and shall return and beseech thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, and we have done wickedly, and we have done wickedly.

8.48 And they shall return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, whither they are carried captive, and shall pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which thou hast built for thy name.

8.49 And hear, O heaven, thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplication, and execute their judgment.

8.50 And you forgave your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions by which they have transgressed against you, and you gave them mercy before their captivity, and they had compassion on you.

8.51 For they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out of Egypt, out of the iron furnace.

8.52 That thine eyes may be open unto the cause of thy servant, and unto the cause of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call unto thee.

8.53 For you have separated them for an inheritance from all the peoples of the earth, as you spoke by the hand of Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD.

8.54 And it came to pass, when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto YHVH, that he arose from before the altar of YHVH, from kneeling upon his knees, with his hands toward the heavens.

8.55 And he stood and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying,

8.56 Blessed be YHVH, who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has failed of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of his servant Moses.

8.57 May YHVH our God be with us, as he was with our fathers; may he not leave us nor forsake us.

8.58 To incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers.

8.59 And these words, wherewith I have made supplication before YHVH, shall be near unto YHVH our God day and night, that he may maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requireth.

8.60 That all the people of the earth may know that YHVH is God; there is none else.

8.61 And let your heart be perfect with YHVH our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

8.62 And the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifices before YHVH.

8.63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he sacrificed unto YHVH, twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. and the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of YHVH.

8.64 On that day the king consecrated the inner court that was before the house of YHVH, for there he offered the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before YHVH was too small to receive the burnt offering, the grain offering, and the fat of the peace offerings.

8.65 Then Solomon kept the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before YHVH our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.

8.66 On the eighth day he sent the people away, and they blessed the king, and went to their tents, rejoicing and glad of heart for all the goodness that YHVH had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.

9.1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of YHVH, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do,

9.2 And YHVH appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

9.3 And YHVH said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, which thou hast made before me. I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever. and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

9.4 And if you will walk before me as your father David walked, with all your heart and with all your soul, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and to keep my statutes and my judgments,

9.5 And I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised David your father, saying, You shall not fail a man on the throne of Israel.

9.6 If you turn away from following me, you and your children, and do not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and bow down to them,

9.7 And I will cut off Israel from off the face of the land which I have given them, and the house which I have hallowed for my name I will cast out of my sight. and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people.

9.8 And this house shall be exalted. every one that passeth by it shall hiss, and say, Wherefore hath YHVH done thus unto this land, and unto this house?

9.9 And they said, Because they forsook YHVH their God, which brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them; therefore hath YHVH brought all this evil upon them.

9.10 And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of YHVH, and the king's house,

9.11 Hiram king of Tyre supplied Solomon with cedar trees and cypress trees and gold for all his desire. Then King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

9.12 And Hiram went out from Egypt to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they pleased him not.

9.13 And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of bondage unto this day.

9.14 And Hiram sent to the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold.

9.15 And this is the tribute which king Solomon raised to build the house of YHVH, and his own house, and the fullness thereof, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hezron, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

9.16 Pharaoh king of Egypt went up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and sent messengers to his daughter, Solomon's wife.

9.17 And Solomon built Gezer and Beth Haran the nether.

9.18 And Baaleth and Tamar in the wilderness in the land

9.19 And all the store cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

9.20 All the people who were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel,

9.21 Their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able to utterly destroy, and Solomon became a tribute of slaves unto this day.

9.22 But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no slaves. for they were men of war, and his servants, and his captains, and his captains, and the captains of his chariots, and his horsemen.

9.23 These are the chief of the officers that were over the work for Solomon, fifty and five hundred, of the people that wrought in the work.

9.24 But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which he had built for her. Then he built the full house.

9.25 And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he had built unto YHVH, and burn incense thereon before YHVH. and he finished the house.

9.26 And I made king Solomon in Ezion Gavr, which is on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

9.27 And Hiram the son of Ani sent his servants, seafaring men, with the servants of Solomon.

9.28 And they came to Ophir, and took thence four hundred and twenty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.

10.1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of YHVH, she came to test him with hard questions.

10.2 And she came to Jerusalem with a very great host, with camels bearing silver, and very much gold, and precious stones. and she came to Solomon, and communed with him of all that was in her heart.

10.3 And Solomon told her all her questions. there was nothing hid from the king, which he told her not.

10.4 And the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built.

10.5 And the food of our messengers, and the sitting of his servants, and the standing of his ministers, and their apparel, and their drink offerings, and his offering that he brought up to the house of YHVH, and there was no more spirit in it.

10.6 And she said to the king, The report was true which I heard in my own land of your words and of your wisdom.

10.7 And I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it. and, behold, the half was not told me, but wisdom and goodness were added unto the report which I heard.

10.8 Blessed are your people, blessed are your servants, who stand before you continually, who hear your wisdom.

10.9 Blessed be YHVH thy God, which delighted in thee, to set thee on the throne of Israel. because YHVH loved Israel for ever, and made thee king, to do judgment and righteousness.

10.10 And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and very much precious stones. there came no more such as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

10.11 And I, Hiram, who brought gold from Ophir, brought from Ophir a very great quantity of almug trees and precious stones.

10.12 And the king made the almug trees tables for the house of YHVH, and for the king's house, and lyres and harps for the ministers. there came no such almug trees, nor were they seen unto this day.

10.13 And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, beside that which king Solomon gave her. and she turned and went to her own land, she and her servants.

10.14 And the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold.

10.15 Except the men of the palaces, and the merchants of the merchants, and all the kings of the west, and the least of the earth.

10.16 And king Solomon made two hundred basons of gold, of which six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one bason.

10.17 And three hundred shields of beaten gold, of which three shekels of gold went to one shield. and the king gave them to the house of the forest of Lebanon.

10.18 And the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.

10.19 Six steps to the cover, and a calf's head to the cover behind it, and a pillar on this side and on that side to the place of the sabbath, and two lions standing by the posts.

10.20 And twelve lions stood there on the six steps, on each side. It is not done so in all the kingdoms.

10.21 And all the drinking vessels of King Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. none was silver accounted of in the days of Solomon.

10.22 For I am Tarshish, king of the seas, with Hiram. once in three years shall I come, Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and camels, and camels.

10.23 And king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

10.24 And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.

10.27 And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he as the sycamores that are in the lowland for abundance.

10.28 And the horses that Solomon had were brought out of Egypt, and the king's merchants bought them at a price.

10.29 And a chariot went up and came out of Egypt for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. And so it was with all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram that they went out in their hand.

11.1 And king Solomon loved many strange women. and Pharaoh's daughter, Moabite, Ammonite, Admahite, Sidonian, and Hittite.

11.2 Of the nations concerning which YHVH said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in unto them, neither shall they go in unto you. for they will turn away your heart after their gods. to them did Solomon cleave in love.

11.3 And he had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

11.4 And it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods. and his heart was not perfect with YHVH his God, as the heart of David his father was.

11.5 And Solomon followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after their king the abomination of the Ammonites.

11.6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of YHVH, and went not fully after YHVH, as David his father.

11.7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for the king of the abomination of the children of Ammon.

11.8 And he did likewise to all his foreign wives, burning incense and sacrificing to their gods.

11.9 And YHVH was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from YHVH God of Israel, who had appeared to him many times.

11.10 And he charged him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods, nor keep that which YHVH commanded.

11.11 And YHVH said unto Solomon, Because this hath been with thee, and thou hast not kept my covenant and my statutes which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

11.12 Nevertheless in your days I will not do it for the sake of David your father; I will tear it out of the hand of your son.

11.13 Only I will not rend away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.

11.14 And YHVH raised up against Solomon Hadad the Edomite, of the seed of the king of Edom.

11.15 And it came to pass, when David was in Edom, that Joab the captain of the host went to bury the slain, and slew every male in Edom.

11.16 For Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until every male in Edom was cut off.

11.17 And Hadad fled, he and certain men of the children of Adam, his father's servants, with him, to come into Egypt. and Hadad was a little child.

11.18 And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran, and took men with them out of Paran, and came into Egypt, unto Pharaoh king of Egypt. and he gave him a house, and bread, and gave him a land.

11.19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh; and he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpanhes the queen.

11.20 And the sister of Tahpenes bare him a son, and she brought him up, Tahpenes, into Pharaoh's house. and he was the maid of Pharaoh's house among the sons of Pharaoh.

11.21 And Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead. and Hadad said unto Pharaoh, Send me away, that I may go into my own country.

11.22 And Pharaoh said unto him, Why hast thou left my people, and seekest to go to thy own country? And he said, Nay; but thou shalt send me away.

11.23 And God raised up for him a devil, Rezon the son of Eliada, who fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.

11.24 And he gathered men unto him, and became captain over a band. and David slew them, and they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus.

11.25 And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, and to the mischief that he wrought in Israel. and he reigned over Syria.

11.26 And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, whose mother's name was Zereah, a widow woman, served Solomon, and he lifted up his hand against the king.

11.27 And this is the thing that he lifted up his hand against king Solomon, that he built the whole, and closed up the breach of the city of David his father.

11.28 Now the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor. and Solomon saw the young man, that he was a man of valor. and he appointed him over all the burdens of the house of Joseph.

11.29 And it came to pass at that time, that Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, and found him in the way Ahijah the son of Shiloni the prophet, and he covered himself with a new garment, and they were both alone in the field.

11.30 And Ahijah took hold of the new Solomon that was upon him, and tore it into twelve pieces.

11.31 And he said unto Jeroboam, Take thee ten pieces. for thus saith YHVH God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give thee ten tribes.

11.32 And one tribe shall be for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.

11.33 Because they have forsaken me, and worshipped Ashtoreth the god of Sidon, and Chemosh the god of Moab, and Melech the god of the children of Ammon, and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in mine eyes, and in my statutes, and in my judgments, as David his father did.

11.34 And I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand. for he shall be our prince all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept my commandments and my statutes.

11.35 And I will take the kingdom out of his hand, and will give it to you, even the ten tribes.

11.36 And I will give to his son one tribe, that David my servant may have a pillar always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself, to put my name there.

11.37 And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign over all that thy soul desireth, and thou shalt be king over Israel.

11.38 And it shall come to pass, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do that which is right in mine eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; then will I be with thee, and build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee.

11.39 And I will afflict the seed of David for this, but not for ever.

11.40 And Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam. but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt unto Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

11.41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the words of Solomon?

11.42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

11.43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father. and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

12.1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem. for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.

12.2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard, (for he was yet in Egypt, where he was fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt.

12.3 And they sent and called for him. and Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

12.4 Your father made our yoke heavy, and now lighten the heavy yoke of your father and his heavy burden that he put on us, and we will serve you.

12.5 And he said unto them, Go away for three days, and come again unto me. And the people went away.

12.6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, How give ye counsel to answer this people?

12.7 And he spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and they will serve thee, and will answer thee, and speak good words unto them, and they will be thy servants for ever.

12.8 And he forsook the counsel of the elders which had counselled him, and took counsel with the children that were brought up with him, which stood before him.

12.9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, which have spoken unto me, saying, Lighten the yoke which thy father did put upon us?

12.10 And the children that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but thou hast made it lighter for us. thus shalt thou say unto them, I am younger than thy father. I am fatter than thy father.

12.11 And now my father laid on you a heavy burden, and I will add to your burden. my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12.12 And Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had said, saying, Come again to me the third day.

12.13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him.

12.14 And he spake unto them after the manner of children, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12.15 But the king hearkened not unto the people. for his hand was against YHVH, that he might perform his word, which YHVH spake by the hand of Ahijah the son of Nebat unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

12.16 And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David, and what inheritance have we in the son of Jesse? Now see thy house, David; and Israel to their tents.

12.17 And the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, and Rehoboam reigned over them.

12.18 Then king Rehoboam sent Idrem, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. And king Rehoboam made haste to get him up to his chariot to flee to Jerusalem.

12.19 And Israel trespassed against the house of David unto this day.

12.20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. there was none that followed the house of David, save the tribe of Judah only.

12.21 And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he gathered all the house of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that drew the sword, to fight against the house of Israel, to restore the kingdom to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

12.22 Then the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

12.23 And he spake unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and unto the remnant of the people, saying,

12.24 Thus saith YHVH, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren the children of Israel. return every man to his house. for this thing is of me. And they shall hearken unto the word of YHVH, and return to go according to the word of YHVH.

12.25 And Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein. and from thence went out, and built Penuel.

12.26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David.

12.27 If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of YHVH at Jerusalem, and the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they kill me, and return unto Rehoboam king of Judah;

12.28 Then the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, Ye have many things to do with Jerusalem. behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

12.29 And he placed the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

12.30 And this thing was a sin offering. and the people went before the one unto Dan.

12.31 And he made the house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

12.32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah. and he offered upon the altar, as he had done in the house of El, to sacrifice unto the calves that he had made. and he ordained in the house of El the priests of the high places which he had made.

12.33 And he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, which is the month which is after YHVH. and he ordained a feast unto the children of Israel, and offered upon the altar to burn incense.

13.1 And, behold, there came a man of God out of Judah by the word of YHVH unto Bethel. and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense.

13.2 And he cried against the altar in the word of YHVH, and said, Altar, altar. thus saith YHVH; Behold, a son shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name. and he shall offer upon thee the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burned upon thee.

13.3 And he gave a sign that day, saying, This is the sign which YHVH hath spoken. Behold, the altar is rent, and the fat that was upon it is poured out.

13.4 And it came to pass, when the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, that Jeroboam stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, Take hold of it. and his hand, which he stretched out upon it, dried up, and he could not draw it back again.

13.5 And the altar was rent, and the fat poured out from the altar, according to the pattern which the man of God had given by the word of YHVH.

13.6 And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Entreat, I pray thee, the face of YHVH thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored unto me. And the man of God entreated the face of YHVH, and the king's hand was restored unto him, and it was restored unto him as at the first.

13.7 And the king said unto the man of God, Come with me to the house, and I will feast upon thee, and I will give thee a present.

13.8 And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go with thee, neither will I eat bread, nor drink water in this place.

13.9 For so he commanded me by the word of YHVH, saying, Thou shalt not eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the way that thou camest.

13.10 And he went another way, and returned not by the way that he came to Bethel.

13.11 Now there was an old prophet who dwelt in Bethel; and his son came and told him all the work that the man of God had done that day in Bethel, and the words that he had spoken to the king, and they told them to their father.

13.12 And their father said unto them, Which way went he? And his sons saw the way that the man of God went, which came from Judah.

13.13 And he said to his sons, Saddle me the ass. And they saddled him the ass, and he rode thereon.

13.14 And he went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. and he said unto him, Art thou the man of God that camest from Judah? And he said, I am.

13.15 And he said unto him, Come home with me, and eat bread.

13.16 And he said, I cannot return with thee, nor go with thee. neither will I eat bread, nor drink water with thee in this place.

13.17 For he said unto me by the word of YHVH, Thou shalt not eat bread nor drink water there, neither shall thou return again by the way that thou camest.

13.18 And he said unto him, I also am a prophet as thou art, and an angel spake unto me by the word of YHVH, saying, Bring thee back again unto thine house. and he shall eat bread and drink water in his affliction.

13.19 And he sat with him, and did eat bread in his house, and drank water.

13.20 And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of YHVH came unto the prophet which brought them back,

13.21 And he called to the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus saith YHVH; Because thou hast rebelled against the mouth of YHVH, and hast not kept the commandment which YHVH thy God commanded thee,

13.22 And thou shalt sit down, and eat bread and drink water in the place of which he said unto thee, Eat no bread, nor drink water. thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

13.23 And it came to pass, after they had eaten bread, and after they had drunk, that he saddled the ass for the prophet, which they had brought back.

13.24 And he went, and a lion found him by the way, and slew him. and his carcase was cast in the way. and the ass stood by it, and the lion stood by the carcase.

13.25 And, behold, men passed by, and saw the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing by the carcase. and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt.

13.26 And when the prophet that was returned from the way heard it, he said, It is the man of God, which provoked the word of YHVH. therefore YHVH hath delivered him unto the lion, which hath torn him, and slain him, according to the word of YHVH, which he spake unto him.

13.27 And he said to his sons, Saddle me the donkey; and they saddled it.

13.28 And he went and found his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion standing by the carcase. the lion had not eaten the carcase, nor torn the ass.

13.29 And the prophet took up the carcase of the man of God, and laid it upon the ass, and brought it back, and came to the city of the old prophet, to mourn for him, and to bury him.

13.30 And he laid his dead body in his grave, and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!

13.31 And it came to pass after he had buried him, that he spake unto his sons, saying, When I am dead, bury me in the sepulchre wherein the man of God is buried by his graves. lay up my graves.

13.32 For the word that he cried by the word of YHVH against the altar that was in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, came to pass.

13.33 After this thing Jeroboam did not return from his evil way, but he returned and made priests of the high places from the lowest of the people. Whoever pleased him, and he became a priest of the high places.

13.34 And this thing came to pass, that it might make the house of Jeroboam sin, to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the face of the earth.

14.1 At that time Abia the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

14.2 And Jeroboam said unto his wife, Arise, I pray thee, and disguise thyself. and they shall not know that I am the wife of Jeroboam, and thou hast gone her way. behold, the name of Ahijah the prophet is, which spake of me to be king over this people.

14.3 And take in thine hand ten loaves of bread, and cakes of parched corn, and a cruse of honey, and go unto him; he shall tell thee what shall become of the lad.

14.4 And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went, and came to the house of Ahiah. but Ahiah could not see, because his eyes were dimmed.

14.5 And YHVH said unto Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam cometh to ask a thing of thee for her son; for he is sick. thus and thus shalt thou speak unto her. and it came to pass, when she came, that she was a stranger.

14.6 And it came to pass, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet coming in at the door, that he said, Come, thou wife of Jeroboam, why art thou thus a stranger, seeing I have sent a message unto thee?

14.7 Go and tell Jeroboam, Thus says YHVH, the God of Israel. Forasmuch as I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israel.

14.8 And I will tear the kingdom away from the house of David, and will give it to you; and you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do only that which was right in my sight.

14.9 And you did evil above all that were before you, and went and made you other gods and images, to provoke me to anger, and I cast you out after your flesh.

14.10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall, and him that is left, and him that is left in Israel. and I will burn after the house of Jeroboam, as dung is burned, until it be consumed.

14.11 Those of Jeroboam who die in the city the dogs shall eat, and those who die in the field the birds of the air shall eat; for YHVH has spoken.

14.12 And arise, go to thine house. when thy feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

14.13 And all Israel mourned for him, and buried him with him. for he only shall come into the grave of Jeroboam; because in him is found some good thing toward YHVH God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.

14.14 And YHVH shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam this day, and what also is this day?

14.15 And YHVH smote Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he uprooted Israel from this good land which he gave to their fathers, and they were carried beyond the river, because they did their good things, provoking YHVH to anger.

14.16 And he delivered Israel because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned, and wherewith he made Israel to sin.

14.17 And Jeroboam's wife arose, and went and came as she pleased. and she came to the door of the house, and the child was dead.

14.18 And they buried him, and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of YHVH, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the prophet.

14.19 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

14.20 And the days that Jeroboam reigned were twenty and two years. and he slept with his fathers. and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.

14.21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned over Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which YHVH had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

14.22 And Judah did evil in the sight of YHVH, and provoked him to jealousy with all that their fathers had done, in their sin which they had sinned.

14.23 And they also built them high places, and graven images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree.

14.24 And there was also a sanctuary in the land of Esau, according to all the abominations of the nations which YHVH cast out before the children of Israel.

14.25 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shushak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem.

14.26 And he took away the treasures of the house of YHVH, and the treasures of the king's house, and all that he took away; and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

14.27 And king Rehoboam made in their stead shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, that kept the door of the king's house.

14.28 And it came to pass, that whenever the king came into the house of YHVH, the runners would carry them, and bring them back to the runners' chamber.

14.29 Now the rest of the acts of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

14.30 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.

14.31 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. and the name of his mother was Naamah the Ammonitess. and Abim his son reigned in his stead.

15.1 And in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijah over Judah.

15.2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah, the daughter of Abishalom.

15.3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he did before him. and his heart was not perfect with YHVH his God, as the heart of David his father.

15.4 For for David's sake YHVH his God gave him a throne in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem.

15.5 David did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

15.6 And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.

15.7 Now the rest of the acts of Abijah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

15.8 And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. and Asa his son reigned in his stead.

15.9 And in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel reigned Asa king of Judah.

15.10 And he reigned forty and one years in Jerusalem. and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

15.11 And Asa did that which was right in the sight of YHVH, as David his father was.

15.12 And he removed the holy things from the land, and put away all the abominations which his fathers had made.

15.13 And also Maacah his mother, whom he removed from her, because she had made an idol for an Asherah. and Asa cut down her idol, and burned it in the brook Kidron.

15.14 But the high places were not removed. only Asa's heart was perfect with YHVH all his days.

15.15 And he brought in the dedicated things of his father, and dedicated them to the house of YHVH, silver, and gold, and vessels.

15.16 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

15.17 And Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built the high place, that he might not go out, and come to Asa king of Judah.

15.18 Then Asa took all the silver and gold that were left in the treasures of the house of YHVH, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants. And king Asa sent to Ben-hadad the son of Taberman, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

15.19 There is a covenant between me and thee, between my father and thy father. behold, I have sent thee a present of silver and gold. thou hast broken thy covenant with Baasha king of Israel, and he is risen up against me.

15.20 And Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of the armies which were with him against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel of Beth-maacah, and all the Chinneroth, throughout all the land of Naphtali.

15.21 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard of it, that he left off building the hill, and dwelt in Tirzah.

15.22 And king Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah, saying, They carried away the stones of the hill, and the timber thereof, which Baasha had built. and king Asa built with them Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpeh.

15.23 Now the rest of the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? Only in his old age was he diseased in his feet.

15.24 And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.

15.25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.

15.26 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

15.27 And Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. and Baasha smote him at Gibeon, which belonged to the Philistines. and Nadab and all Israel besieged Gibeon.

15.28 And Baasha died in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

15.29 And it came to pass, when he reigned, that he smote all the house of Jeroboam; he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed them, according to the word of YHVH, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite.

15.30 For the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned, and which he made Israel sin, in his wrath, to provoke YHVH God of Israel to anger.

15.31 Now the rest of the acts of Nadav, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

15.32 And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

15.33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah reigned over all Israel in Tirzah, twenty-four years.

15.34 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

16.1 And the word of YHVH came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,

16.2 For I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee prince over my people Israel. and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made my people Israel to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins.

16.3 Behold, I will raise up a fire after Baasha, and after his house, and will make thine house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16.4 Him that dieth of Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat. and him that dieth of him in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

16.5 Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16.6 And Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah. and Elah his son reigned in his stead.

16.7 And by the hand of Jehu the son of Hanani the prophet came the word of YHVH against Baasha, and against his house, for all the evil that he did in the sight of YHVH, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands, to be like the house of Jeroboam, and for which he smote him.

16.8 In the twenty-sixth year of Asa king of Judah, Elah the son of Baasha reigned over Israel in Tirzah, and reigned two years.

16.9 And his servant Zimri, captain of half the chariots, was with him in Tirzah, drinking wine, the hire of the house of Arza, which was over the house in Tirzah.

16.10 And Zimri came and smote him, and slew him, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

16.11 And it came to pass in his reign, when he sat on his throne, that he smote all the house of Baasha. he left him none left that could urinate in the wall, nor his servants, nor his neighbor.

16.12 So Zimri destroyed all the house of Baasha, according to the word of YHVH, which he spake against Baasha by the prophet Jehu.

16.13 For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of his sons, which they sinned, and which they made Israel to sin, to provoke YHVH God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

16.14 Now the rest of the acts of these men, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16.15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri reigned seven days in Tirzah, while the people were encamped at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

16.16 And when the people that were in the camp heard say, Zimri hath conspired, and hath also slain the king. and all Israel made Omri the captain of the host king over Israel that day in the camp.

16.17 Then Omri and all Israel with him went up to Gibeon and besieged Tirzah.

16.18 And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king's house, and burnt the king's house with fire over him, and died.

16.19 For his sin which he sinned in doing evil in the sight of YHVH, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel sin.

16.20 Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his conspiracy which he committed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16.21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts. half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath to make him king, and half followed Omri.

16.22 And the people that followed Omri strengthened the people that followed Tibni the son of Ginath. and Tibni died, and Omri reigned.

16.23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri reigned over Israel twelve years, and reigned six years in Tirzah.

16.24 And he bought the hill Samaria from Shemer for a sum of silver, and built the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, YHVH of the hill Samaria.

16.25 And Omri did evil in the sight of YHVH, and did evil above all that were before him.

16.26 And he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sins wherewith he made Israel to sin, to provoke YHVH God of Israel to anger with their vanities.

16.27 Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his might which he shewed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16.28 And Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria. and Ahab his son reigned in his stead.

16.29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel. and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years.

16.30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of YHVH above all that were before him.

16.31 And it came to pass, that he walked lightly in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. and he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

16.32 And he set up an altar for the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

16.33 And Ahab made the grove. and Ahab did more to provoke YHVH God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.

16.34 In his days Hiel the son of Eli built Jericho, with Abiram his firstborn, he laid its foundation, and with Gebal his youngest son he set up its doors, according to the word of YHVH, which he spoke by the hand of Joshua the son of Nun.

17.1 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the Gileadites, said unto Ahab, As YHVH God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

17.2 And the word of YHVH came unto him, saying,

17.3 Go from there and turn east and hide yourself by the Wadi Kerith, which is east of the Jordan.

17.4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook, and I have commanded the Arabians to feed thee there.

17.5 And he went and did according to the word of YHVH. and he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, which is before Jordan.

17.6 And the Arabs bring him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening, and he shall drink from the brook.

17.7 And it came to pass after many days, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

17.8 And the word of YHVH came unto him, saying,

17.9 Arise, go to Sidon, and dwell there. behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to provide for you.

17.10 And he arose, and went his way, and came to the gate of the city. and, behold, a widow woman was there gathering sticks. and he called unto her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

17.11 And she went to fetch it. and he called unto her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

17.12 And she said, As YHVH thy God liveth, I have but a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse. and I am gathering two sticks, and I will go and make it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

17.13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not, I will come; do as thou hast said. but make me a little cake of it first, and bring out for me, and for thee, and for thy son, and make the latter.

17.14 For thus saith YHVH God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not be spent, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that YHVH sendeth rain upon the earth.

17.15 And she went and did according to the word of Elijah. and he and she and her household ate for days.

17.16 The jar of flour did not run out, and the cruse of oil did not fail, according to the word of YHVH, which he spoke by Elijah.

17.17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick, and was very sick, until there was no more life left in him.

17.18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O man of God? that thou hast come unto me to bring evil upon me, and to slay my son.

17.19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him from her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber, where he sat, and laid him upon his own bed.

17.20 And he cried unto YHVH, and said, YHVH my God, behold, the widow with whom I sojourn hath also brought evil upon her, to slay her son.

17.21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto YHVH, and said, LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul return into his bosom.

17.22 And YHVH heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into his bosom again, and he revived.

17.23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother. and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

17.24 And the woman said unto Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of YHVH in thy mouth is truth.

18.1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of YHVH came unto Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab, and I will give rain upon the earth.

18.2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. and the famine was sore in Samaria.

18.3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was over the house. and Obadiah feared YHVH exceedingly.

18.4 And it came to pass, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of YHVH, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.

18.5 And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks. peradventure we may find grass, and we may keep horses and mules alive. and we will not be cut off from the beasts.

18.6 And they divided the land between them, and Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went one way by himself.

18.7 And it came to pass, as Obadiah was in the way, that, behold, Elijah met him. and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?

18.8 And he said unto him, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

18.9 And he said, What have I sinned, that thou hast delivered thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

18.10 As YHVH your God lives, is there any nation or kingdom to which my Lord has not sent to seek you? And they say, No, and I will make the kingdom or nation swear that I will not find you.

18.11 And now thou sayest, Tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

18.12 And it shall come to pass, when I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of YHVH will carry thee whither I know not. and when I come to tell Ahab, and he shall not find thee, he shall slay me. and thy servant shall fear YHVH from my youth up.

18.13 Did you not tell my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of YHVH? And how I hid a hundred of the prophets of YHVH by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

18.14 And now thou sayest, Tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is come, and slay me.

18.15 And Elijah said, As YHVH of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely to day will I appear unto him.

18.16 And Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him. and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

18.17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

18.18 And he said, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of YHVH, and have followed the Baals.

18.19 Now therefore send and gather unto me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of Asherah four hundred, which eat of Jezebel's meat.

18.20 And Ahab sent throughout all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

18.21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? If YHVH be God, follow him; or if Baal, follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

18.22 And Elijah said unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of YHVH. but the prophets of Baal are four hundred and fifty men.

18.23 And they gave us two bulls, and they chose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and laid it on wood, and put no fire under it. and I will dress the other bull, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under it.

18.24 And you shall call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of YHVH. and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

18.25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock, and prepare the first bullock. for ye are many. and call on the name of your god, and put no fire under it.

18.26 And they took the bullock which he had given them, and prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even unto noon, saying, Baal hath answered, and there is no voice, and there is no answer. and they offered upon the altar which he had made.

18.27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah cried unto them, and said, Cry with a loud voice. for it is God that speaketh; and who hath taken him? and who hath taken him? or what is his way? peradventure he sleepeth, and awaketh.

18.28 And they cried with a loud voice, and smote one another with swords and spears, according to their judgment, until blood was shed upon them.

18.29 And it came to pass, when the noon hour was past, that they prophesied until the time of the oblation. but there was no voice, nor any that answered, nor any that paid attention.

18.30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. and he repaired the altar of YHVH that was broken down.

18.31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of YHVH came, saying, Israel shall be thy name.

18.32 And he built with the stones an altar in the name of YHVH, and made a trench about the altar, like a house of sheaves of seed.

18.33 And he arranged the wood, and cut the bull into pieces, and laid it on the wood.

18.34 And he said, Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the fire and on the trees. And he said, "Six and six," and he said, "Three and three."

18.35 And the water ran round about the altar, and the trench also was filled with water.

18.36 And it came to pass at the offering of the oblation, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, know this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that at thy word have I done all these things.

18.37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that this people may know that you are YHVH God, and that you have turned their heart back again.

18.38 And the fire of YHVH fell, and consumed the burnt offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that was in the trench.

18.39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces, and said, YHVH, he is God; YHVH, he is God.

18.40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let none of them escape. and they were scattered. And Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

18.41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Go up, eat and drink. for there is the sound of a great rain.

18.42 And Ahab went up to eat and to drink. and Elijah went up to the top of Carmel, and bowed himself to the ground, and put his face between his knees.

18.43 And he said unto his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

18.44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, a little dew, as small as a man's hand, cometh up of water. And he said, Come up. And he said unto Ahab, Let there be a rose, and let the rain not stay it.

18.45 And it came to pass, that the heavens were dark and thick with wind, and there was a great rain. and Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

18.46 And the hand of YHVH was upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab unto the gate of Jezreel.

19.1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

19.2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “May God do so to you, and may he do so to you, for tomorrow about this time I will make your life as the life of one of them.”

19.3 And he saw, and arose, and went his way, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and laid down his servant there.

19.4 And he went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a certain tree, and asked for his soul that he might die, and said, Now therefore, O Lord, take away my life; for I am no better than my father.

19.5 And he lay down and slept under a certain saddle. and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise, and eat.

19.6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake of beaten bread and a cruse of water at his head. and he did eat and drank, and sat down, and lay down.

19.7 And the angel of YHVH came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise, and eat; for the journey is too great for thee.

19.8 And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights unto the mount of God.

19.9 And he came thither into a cave, and lodged there. and, behold, the word of YHVH came unto him, and said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

19.10 And he said, I have been very jealous for YHVH God of hosts. for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I only am left, and they seek my life to take it away.

19.11 And he said, Go out, and stand upon the mount before YHVH. and, behold, YHVH passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before YHVH, not by the wind of YHVH. and after the wind a noise, not by the noise of YHVH.

19.12 And after the noise a fire, not the fire of YHVH; and after the fire a still, still voice.

19.13 And it came to pass, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the mouth of the cave. and behold a voice unto him, saying, What doest thou here, Elijah?

19.14 And he said, I have been very jealous for YHVH God of hosts. for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I only am left, and they seek my life to take it away.

19.15 And YHVH said unto him, Go, return on thy way from the wilderness of Damascus, and when thou comest, anoint Hazael king over Syria.

19.16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel. and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

19.17 And it came to pass, that he that escaped from the sword of Hazael slew Jehu; and he that escaped from the sword of Jehu slew Elisha.

19.18 And I have left in Israel seven thousand, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

19.19 And he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing twelve pairs before him, and he was with the twelfth. and Elijah passed over unto him, and cast his mantle upon him.

19.20 And he left the ox, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, give my father and my mother drink, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go again. for what have I done unto thee?

19.21 And he returned from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and all the flesh in the vessels of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. and he arose, and followed Elijah, and ministered unto him.

20.1 And Ben-hadad king of Aram gathered all his army, and thirty and two kings with him, and horses, and chariots, and camels, and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

20.2 And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel into the city.

20.3 And he said unto him, Thus saith Benhadad, Thy silver and thy gold is mine, and thy sons and thy daughters are mine.

20.4 And the king of Israel answered and said, According to thy word, my lord the king, I am thine, and all that I have.

20.5 And the angels returned, and said, Thus saith Benhadad, I have sent unto thee, saying, Give me thy silver, and thy gold, and thy sons, and thy daughters.

20.6 For tomorrow about this time I will send my servants to you, and they will search your house and the houses of your servants, and whatever is pleasing to your eyes they will put into their hands and take it.

20.7 Then the king of Israel called for all the elders of the land, and said, Mark now and see that this man seeketh evil. for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I refused him not.

20.8 And all the elders and all the people said unto him, Hearken not, lest thou be displeased.

20.9 And he said unto the angels of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didst send unto thy servant at the first I will do. but this thing I cannot do. And the angels departed, and told him a word.

20.10 And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, So do the gods to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria sufficeth for alms for all the people that follow me.

20.11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Let not a belt boast itself as a key.

20.12 And it came to pass, when he heard this thing, that he and the kings drank wine in the palaces, and said unto his servants, Set up, and set up against the city.

20.13 And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus saith YHVH, Thou hast seen all this great multitude; behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day. and thou shalt know that I am YHVH.

20.14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said, Thus saith YHVH by the young men of the princes of the provinces. And he said, Who shall forbid the war? And he said, Thou.

20.15 And he numbered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty years old. and after them he numbered all the people, all the children of Israel, seven thousand.

20.16 And they went out at noon, and Ben-hadad was drinking himself drunk in Succoth, he and the thirty-two kings, the king of Ezer with him.

20.17 And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first, and Benhadad sent, and told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

20.18 And he said, If they go out for peace, you shall breathe life; and if they go out for war, you shall breathe life.

20.19 And these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army that followed them.

20.20 And they smote every man his man, and the Syrians fled. and Israel pursued them. and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped upon an horse, and upon horsemen.

20.21 And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.

20.22 And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said unto him, Go, strengthen thyself, and know, and see what thou wilt do. for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against thee.

20.23 And the servants of the king of Syria said unto him, The gods of the mountains are their gods. therefore they are stronger than he. but we will fight with them in the plain, if we be not stronger than they.

20.24 And he did this thing. he removed the kings, each from his place, and set up lesser ones in their place.

20.25 And you shall number for yourself an army like the army that fell to you, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot, and we will fight against them in the plain, if we are not stronger than they, and he will listen to their voice and do so.

20.26 And it came to pass at the return of the year, that Ben-hadad gathered Syria, and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

20.27 And the children of Israel were numbered, and were nourished, and went against them. and the children of Israel encamped against them like two flocks of goats. and the Syrians filled the land.

20.28 And the man of God came and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith YHVH; Because the Syrians have said, YHVH is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys; therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand; and ye shall know that I am YHVH.

20.29 And they encamped opposite each other seven days. and it came to pass on the seventh day, that the battle drew nigh. and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

20.30 And the rest fled to the city, and the wall fell down upon twenty-seven thousand men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and entered into the city, chamber by chamber.

20.31 And his servants said unto him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. let us put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and let us go out to the king of Israel. peradventure he will save thy life.

20.32 And they girded sackcloth about their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Benhadad said, I pray thee, let my soul live. And he said, Is not he yet alive? He is my brother.

20.33 And the men guessed, and hasted, and took counsel of him, and said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. And he said, Come, take him. And Ben-hadad went out unto him, and they made him to ride in the chariot.

20.34 And he said unto him, The cities which my father took from thy father will I restore, and thou shalt set gates for thee in Damascus, as my father set in Samaria. and I will send thee away with a covenant. And he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

20.35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour by the word of YHVH, Prepare, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

20.36 And he said unto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voice of YHVH, behold, thou art departed from me. And the lion smote him. And he went away from him, and the lion found him, and smote him.

20.37 And he found another man, and said, Prepare, I pray thee. And the man smote him, and wounded him.

20.38 And the prophet went and stood before the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face.

20.39 And when the king was come by, he cried unto the king, and said, Thy servant went out into the battle, and, behold, a man escaped. and a man came unto me, and said, Keep this man. if the captain shall call him, then shall thy life be for his life, or shall thy weight be as a shekel of silver?

20.40 And it came to pass, when thy servant did this, and, behold, he was not. and the king of Israel said unto him, Thus saith the king, Thou hast made a decree.

20.41 And he hasted, and took the ashes from his eyes. and the king of Israel knew him, because he was of the prophets.

20.42 And he said unto him, Thus saith YHVH; Because thou hast sent away the man whom I have utterly destroyed, then thy life shall be for his life, and thy people for his people.

20.43 And the king of Israel went home sullen and displeased, and came to Samaria.

21.1 And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, by the house of Ahab king of Samaria.

21.2 And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that it may be to me for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house. and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it. If it seem good unto thee, I will give thee money for the price thereof.

21.3 And Naboth said unto Ahab, YHVH forbid it me, that I should die, that I should give the inheritance of my father unto thee.

21.4 And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken unto him, saying, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

21.5 And Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

21.6 And he said unto her, I will speak unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and say unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it. And he said, I will not give thee my vineyard.

21.7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Thou shalt now reign over Israel. arise, eat bread, and be of good cheer. I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

21.8 And she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, that dwelt with Naboth.

21.9 And it was written in the books, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people.

21.10 And they set two men, sons of Belial, over against him, and charged him, saying, Blessed be God and the king. and they brought him out, and stoned him, that he died.

21.11 And the men of his city, the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, as it is written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

21.12 Proclaim a fast and restore Naboth to leadership over the people

21.13 And two men, sons of Belial, came and sat before him. and the men of Belial accused Naboth in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth blasphemed God and the king. and they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

21.14 And they sent to Jezebel, saying, Stone Naboth, that he die.

21.15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said unto Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money. for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

21.16 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite to possess it.

21.17 And the word of YHVH came unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

21.18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria, in the vineyard of Naboth, which he is gone down to possess.

21.19 And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith YHVH; Thou hast murdered, and also inherited. And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith YHVH; In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood also.

21.20 And Ahab said unto Elijah, Wherefore hast thou found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to do evil in the sight of YHVH.

21.21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will burn after thee, and will cut off from Ahab that pisseth against the wall, and that is left, and left in Israel.

21.22 And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked Israel to anger, and have made Israel sin.

21.23 And concerning Jezebel also YHVH spake, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel.

21.24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city shall the dogs eat. and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

21.25 Only he was not like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the sight of YHVH, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

21.26 And he greatly abhorred to follow after idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom YHVH cast out before the children of Israel.

21.27 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard these words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and walked softly.

21.28 And the word of YHVH came unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

21.29 You have seen that Ahab has humbled himself before me; for because he humbled himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days, but in his son's days I will bring the evil upon his house.

22.1 And they dwelt three years without war between Syria and Israel.

22.2 And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down unto the king of Israel.

22.3 And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramothgilead is ours, and we think to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

22.4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, Go with me to battle at Ramoth Gilead. And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

22.5 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of YHVH this day.

22.6 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go up to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I refrain? And they said, Go up, and my lord shall deliver it into the king's hand.

22.7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of YHVH besides, that we may inquire of him?

22.8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of YHVH. but I hate him. for he prophesieth not good concerning me, but evil. Micaiah the son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

22.9 Then the king of Israel called one of his officers, and said, Hasten, Micaiah the son of Imlah.

22.10 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat each on his throne, clothed in their robes, at the threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

22.11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith YHVH, With these shalt thou push Syria until they be consumed.

22.12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper. and YHVH shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

22.13 And the angel that went to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one consent. let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak good.

22.14 And Micaiah said, As YHVH liveth, whatsoever YHVH saith unto me, that will I speak unto him.

22.15 And he came to the king. and the king said unto him, Micaiah, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he said unto him, Go up, and prosper; and YHVH shall deliver it into the king's hand.

22.16 And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of YHVH?

22.17 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, like sheep that have no shepherd. and YHVH said, I will not rule over these. let them return every man to his house in peace.

22.18 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee, that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?

22.19 And he said, Therefore hear the word of YHVH. I saw YHVH sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

22.20 And YHVH said, Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And this one said, Weep, and that one said, Weep.

22.21 And there went out a spirit, and stood before YHVH, and said, I am he that baketh bread. And YHVH said unto him, What?

22.22 And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt deceive, and shalt also prevail. go out, and do so.

22.23 And now, behold, YHVH hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and YHVH hath spoken evil against thee.

22.24 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of YHVH from me to speak unto thee?

22.25 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, that thou shalt go into an inner chamber to burn incense.

22.26 And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Aman the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son.

22.27 And you said, Thus says the king, Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until he come in peace.

22.28 And Micaiah said, If thou return indeed in peace, YHVH hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye peoples.

22.29 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramath Gilead.

22.30 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Disguise thyself, and go into the battle; and put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

22.31 And the king of Aram commanded his thirty and two captains, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, but with the king of Israel only.

22.32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. and they turned against him to fight. And Jehoshaphat cried out,

22.33 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that he was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from following him.

22.34 And a certain man drew his bow at a time, and smote the king of Israel between the guard and the chariots. and he said unto his chariot man, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the camp; for I am sick.

22.35 And the battle increased that day, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians, and he died at evening, and the blood of the slain poured out into the midst of the chariot.

22.36 And Haran passed through the camp at the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his country.

22.37 And the king died, and came to Samaria. and they buried the king in Samaria.

22.38 And he washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood, and washed away the harlots, according to the word of YHVH which he spake.

22.39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

22.40 And Ahab slept with his fathers. and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

22.41 And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

22.42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azuba the daughter of Shelah.

22.43 And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he departed not from it, to do that which was right in the sight of YHVH.

22.44 But the high places were not removed; the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.

22.45 And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

22.46 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might which he did, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

22.47 And the remnant of the holy things that remained in the days of Asa his father burned up in the land.

22.48 And there is no king in Edom; there is no king.

22.49 Jehoshaphat sent ten ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they did not go, because the ships were broken at Ezion Gavar.

22.50 Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. but Jehoshaphat would not.

22.51 And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father. and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

22.52 Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.

22.53 And he did evil in the sight of YHVH, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin.

22.54 And he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger YHVH God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
